SEASON 6 EPISODE 7: PART ONE

If you asked anyone in Miyagi-Do how their team was doing fighting for a spot in the tournament of champions, all of them would probably tell you they were doing fucking horrible.

Johnny and Daniel would constantly argue from the sidelines about which methods to use: Miyagi-Do or Eagle Fang and Jules was getting sick of it.

This current round consisted of two challenges: fighting with a bo staff, and the first to land a point.

Knowing her team, Jules knew Eagle Fang methods were the best way to win this round, but every time a Miyagi-Do fighter went up to compete, Johnny and Daniel yelled over each other, not only distracting them from their fight but if they decided to listen to Daniel, which was everyone except Jules, Miguel, and Lexi, they lost.

Miyagi-Do ended up in the bottom rankings and they were sent back to the hotel to get some rest before the next round.

"Everyone, listen up." Johnny called out as they all walked into the lobby. Lexi groaned, her whole body sore as she undid her hair from the ponytail it was in. Demetri looked down at Lexi and let out a small giggle, playfully ruffling her hair.

Lexi looked up at Demetri and laughed, grabbing his hand out of her hair and holding it instead as she turned to her senseis.

"All right, this morning's event was tough, but let's not get discouraged just yet. We have two more events today. And eliminations don't begin till the second one." Daniel explained and Demetri finally looked away from Lexi, his eyes wide.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. If that wasn't the elimination round, what is? Getting our heads cut off with swords?" Demetri asked and Jules sighed. She brought her hand up to rub the tiredness out of her eyes and sighed.

"At this rate, my bets getting pushed off a cliff." She muttered.

Johnny gave his daughter a look while Daniel sighed. "We knew this wasn't gonna be easy. We're going up against the best dojos in the world, but don't forget you guys are one of them too." Daniel said, pointing between the eight students.

"Yeah, so you better start fighting like it." Johnny snapped and normally, Jules would've laughed the the look Daniel would give her dad, but right now, she was too annoyed with them always bickering. She didn't get to witness her parents ever together but Daniel and Johnny's constant bickering reminded Jules of parents arguing.

Daniel turned back to the students, ignoring Johnny's comment. "The best thing you can do right now is just clear your minds, get some rest, put this behind you. You got this, all right ? I believe in you."

The students took that as the okay to leave. The girls decided to head back to their rooms while the boys wanted to go get food.

Jules leaned against the wall of the elevator with Sam, Lexi, and Devon. Her head looked up at the blue-dimmed lights hanging over the four of them when Devon groaned.

"Well, I totally sucked out there." Devon muttered, and Jules kept her head looking up as she pressed her lips together and shook her head.

"We all didn't do our best today." She muttered and Devon turned around to face Jules, a look of disbelief on her face. "Says you!" Devon spat, making Jules finally turn to look at her. Jules knew Devon was probably tired and angry and didn't mean to snap at her, but she still raised her eyebrows.

Devon sighed, realizing she was getting snippy and looked tot he floor. "I landed flat on my ass. God, I can't believe I'm making such an embarrassment of myself." She muttered.

Lexi frowned from beside the girl and gently raised her hand to rub the girls back. Devon looked to Lexi beside her and felt a wave of guilt looking at the girl. If Joey didn't break his leg, Lexi wouldn't be here, and that would be Devon's fault.

"It would help if our senseis got on the same page. Johnny needs to start working with my dad better." Sam sighed out, crossing her arms.

Jules squinted at Sam, pushing herself off the wall. "Well, it's not just my dads fault. Your dad won't cooperate with him either." Jules said and Sam looked at Jules in shock. Sam noticed how annoyed Jules was getting with their senseis, she thought she'd be on her side.

Before they could fight more about it, the elevator doors opened and Zara, the captain of the Iron Dragons, walked on, smiling down at her phone.

"What's up, everyone? It's your queen of karate here! Just finished our second Sekai Taikai event, where the Dragons absolutely slayed. Although, it was awesome to see other badass girls of karate fighting out there." Zara said and as she turned to face the doors, Jules could see she was on an instagram live.

Lexi rolled her eyes as Jules held back a snicker. Zara didn't notice the Miyagi-Do girls side eyeing her from behind her back and continued to talk to her viewers. "Anyway, let's see if any of these other dojos there try to dethrone us. And to all my fans, I'm here to win for you. So stay tuned. I'll post again after the next event. Zara, out!"

Then, she ended the live and pushed her phone into her pocket and gave a small–but very fake smile–to the four girls she was in the elevator with. "Sorry, I only do intros on my stories for fighters who win their events. It's a brand thing, so don't take it personally." Zara said, not giving any of the girls time to respond before she walked off the elevator.

Jules watched the girl go with her arms crossed and her jaw hanging. Once the doors closed again, Lexi scoffed out a laugh.

"Wow..." Devon muttered and Lexi rolled her eyes. "It's a brand thing." She muttered, mocking Zara before she looked back to her friends. "What a bitch." She spat.

Jules sarcastically raised her eyebrows, her eyes squinting a little even though Zara wasn't even around anymore. "I'm gonna keep an eye out on her." She muttered and almost instantly, Sam nodded from beside her.

"Oh, definitely."

...

It was now the next round of competitions and neither Sam or Daniel were here.

Johnny looked around the arena, trying to see if he could see Sam from over all of the heads and cursed under his breath when he didn't see her.

"Where the hell is Sam?" He grumbled as he turned back to the now seven students. His eyes turned to Devon, overhearing Jules say that her and Sam were roommates.

"Lee?" He asked and Devon immediately shook her head, looking to Jules and Lexi to back her up. "I don't know... she split from the three of us on the walk here." She said.

Johnny turned to Jules and Lexi, silently asking them if it were true and both of them nodded.

Lexi looked past her sensei and her eyes widened when she saw Sam walking towards them. "There she is." Sam breathed out, making everyone turn to face the LaRusso girl.

Johnny sighed, walking towards Sam and meeting her in the middle. The two of them walked and talked, Sam explaining herself as they headed back towards the team.

"In this final points round, competitors will try to knock their opponents off their platforms. Once you've fallen, you are out. Points are determined off of wins, losses, and time. Final rankings after this event will determine placement in tonight's elimination round." One of the judges explained, gesturing to a small platform that was about a foot off the ground.

"All right. Listen up." Johnny said, making the Miyagi-Dos circle up. "Looks like I'm taking charge, so we're doing things differently. No more waiting around like scared little bitches, waiting for them to come to you, all right? You go at them. Aggressive. Knock them off first." Johnny said and Jules frowned at his words.

She looked back at the platforms and pressed her lips together. They were gonna need Miyagi-Do for this round, not Eagle Fang. Julianna turned back to her dad and shook her head. "Dad, those platforms are really narrow..." She started, her voice getting quieter when she was met with an angry glare from her dad.

"Jules is right. My dad would want balance." Sam said and Johnny looked back and forth between the two girls, an annoyed look on his face.

"Yeah, well, your dad's not here. All right? It's time for us to start scoring some points." Johnny said and Jules shook her head, licking her lips. Sam sighed from across the circle from Jules. The two locked eyes and Julianna licked her inner cheek, annoyed her dad wasn't listening to them.

"Sora Haruto from Kirobukan on platform one. Devon Lee from Miyagi-Do on platform two."

Jules looked to Devon, who was standing beside her. She went to reach out and say something to reassure her, but her dad beat her to it.

"Don't let me down, Lee." He said and Jules closed her eyes, knowing that those words probably only stressed Devon out more.

The girl muttered a small "yes, sensei" and walked towards the platform.

As soon as the fight started, the girl Devon was fighting immediately started to attack. Devon stuck with blocking and defending. She was holding her ground pretty well until Johnny started screaming.

Devon had a second to look back at Johnny and nodded. She turned back to the girl she was fighting and spun, throwing her leg out to kick her. The girl ducked and because of how narrow the platforms, Devon stumbled. The girl smirked, kicking Devon and knocking her off the platform.

"Dammit!" Jules yelled, her hands going to the side of her head.

"Lee out. Time, ten seconds."

Devon walked back towards her team with her head down and Johnny huffed. "We need to do better. You all need to step up. Let's do this!" He screamed.

As time went on, Miyagi-Do's continued to get called up and just like Devon, they started with Miyagi-Do techniques until Johnny started to yell at them.

Everyone lasted at least over a minute, and Lexi and Miguel were able to knock their opponents off the platform. Lexi somehow using Eagle Fang do it.

Miyagi-Do's record over lasting pretty long for the fight lasted until Robby got kicked off his platform.

"Keene out! Forty-five seconds."

Jules bounced on her toes. She was the last person from Miyagi-Do left to compete in this round. Johnny patted her back encouragingly from beside her, nodding his head. "All right, Jules. You're our last chance for some more points. Let's get it done."

As the announcer called Julianna's name, she looked up to her dad and nodded her head. "Yes, Sensei."

Jules stepped onto the platform and as soon as the fight started, the girl across from her lunged forward with a quick jab aimed at Jules' face. Jules sidestepped, her hands raising to block all of the punches that followed.

The girl kicked towards Julianna's head, and Jules let out a small gasp, ducking.

"Julianna! What the hell are you doing? Strike!" She could hear her dad yell as she blocked another kick from the girl.

Jules didn't look away from the fight. "No!" She yelled back. If she was her teams last chance at getting some points, she would get those points even if it meant not following her senseis orders.

Jules started to move forward every time she blocked the girls hits, forcing her opponent to step back every time Jules stepped forward.

It wasn't long before the girl stood on the edge of the mat. Her eyes were a little wide and Jules could hear the girl's breathing pick up in a panic. Once she was completely cornered, her heels barely grazing the edge of the platform, Jules spun, her foot connecting with the girl's chest.

Her arms flailed as she fell off the platform, landing with a loud thud on the mat below.

"Phan out. Time, 30 seconds."

Jules made sure to not walk past her dad and instead, made a beeline towards Eli. Her eyes looked up at the scoreboard and she sighed when she saw her win only moved her team up one place, now in eleventh.

Eli smiled at Jules coming toward him and immediately opened his arms out to hug her. His arms wrapped around her shoulders as soon as she got close enough and he kissed her forehead.

"Nice job, Sunshine." He said and Jules smiled into Eli's gi, wrapping her arm around his waist as the two of them and the rest of their team started to walk out of the arena.

"Hey! Where the hell do you think you're going?" Johnny snapped, making all of his students stop and turn back around to face him. Demetri shrugged as if it were obvious. "Back to the hotel to wash off this disgrace." He muttered, looking down at himself before turning back to Johnny.

The man shook his head, looking at every kids face, his lips curling in anger. "You're not getting off that easy. Locker room. Now."

Jules sighed, knowing this was gonna turn into a screaming match for multiple people. Jules was tempted to turn to Lexi and make a bet on who would start screaming, but she felt if anything, it would probably be herself.

They walked into the locker room with shoulders slumped and heads down. Jules took a seat on one of the benches beside Devon, Demetri on the other side of the girl and Lexi sitting next to Robby on the bench diagonal from them. Sam stood next to Jules, leaning on the lockers behind her.

She didn't look up at her dad as he started to reprimand them all. "What I saw from you just now, it wasn't karate. It was weakness! You fought like little lambs waiting for slaughter. We keep going like this, we get eliminated tonight."

Lexi, who was looking up at Johnny, looked down at those words. She bit her bottom lip nervously, leaning back into the lockers.

"Some of you will put this behind you. But some of you are gonna carry this for the rest of your lives. Knowing you had this chance to make something of yourselves. But instead, you crumbled under pressure." Johnny said and Julianna's eyes guiltily moved to her brother.

Just as their eyes locked, Jules looked away, her eyes moving to the floor.

"And you're gonna go on to live shit lives in shitty apartments with shit jobs. And always have to live with this failure. So if you wanna save some humiliation, why don't we just skip the next round and catch the next flight home?" Johnny yelled. There's one person yelling.

Jules felt like she was being reprimanded by her parent more than her sensei, which she was. Her eyes stayed on her fingers in her lap, picking at her cuticles.

She heard him sigh and she finally looked up at him. Jules watched as Johnny shook his head, a disappointed look on his face. "What is wrong with you guys? Where's your fight? Aren't you gonna stand up for yourselves."

"It's not all our fault." Jules spoke, making everyone looked away from her dad and to her, shocked that she actually said something.

Johnny, already pissed that Jules went against his orders and used Miyagi-Do, raised his eyebrows at his daughter, almost egging her on to keep going.

"What did you just say?" He asked, his voice a lot lower than before.

"You keep blaming us like this isn't on you too!" Sam defended Julianna. Johnny's head snapped up to Sam standing behind his daughter. "If my dad had been there, we never would've lost like this."

"Yeah, well he wasn't there." Johnny replied.

"Probably because of you!" She yelled–there's two. Lexi looked up to Sam as she started to crazily shake her head. "You keep disrespecting him, trying to prove your way is better, when it's so clear that we should be using Miyagi-Do. You shouldn't even be wearing that gi."

Jules barely even thought about it before she shot out of her spot and turned to Sam. "Okay, that's where I'm gonna stop you." She said.

Sitting on the bench diagonal from Julianna, Eli looked up  at his girlfriend with a nervous look. "Jules." He started but Jules raised her hand, silently telling Eli to "hold on" as she kept her eyes on Sam

"Let's not act like Miyagi-Do is the only way to do shit. We merged the two together because it's better to have both not just one." Jules said, her voice harsh but she wasn't yelling yet.

Sam's mouth clamped shut as soon as Julianna stood up, struggling to keep eye-contact with the blonde but still trying.

"Yes, we should've used Miyagi-Do today and yes, my dad messed up on that, but your dad screwed us over yesterday just as much as mine did today." Jules started to shake her head, looking back at her dad for just a second before she turned back to Sam. "They both don't know how to meet in the middle and you–"

Jules pointed at Sam and bent down to get closer to her height. "Need to stop acting like your dad is a fucking saint."

Sam looked up at Jules in shock. Jules sighed, feeling a weight lift off of her chest after finally being able to say that. She sat back down on the bench, her eyes moving to Lexi on the other side of the room.

The girls had a silent conversation with their eyes, Lexi asking if Jules was okay and Julianna nodding.

Demetri sighed from the other end of the bench he and Jules sat on, the awkward silence starting to eat away at him. "Well, I, for one, will be putting all of this behind me when I'm off to MI–"

"Shut the fuck up about MIT!" Eli yelled—there's three. Demetri looked to Eli with his eyebrows screwed together.

"Some of us actually care about winning the tournament. Be nice if you did too." Eli snapped. Demetri blinked, shocked that Eli would yell at him in front of everyone.

His eyes moved to Lexi, the girl already watching him but as soon as they locked eyes, Lexi tensed and looked to the ground.

Robby noticed Lexi's demeanor shift and sighed, looking between his team. "Guys, can we please not do this? We need to focus up."

Jules licked her lips to hold back a comment.

We need to focus up?

"Seems like you should listen to your own advice." Miguel muttered.

Julianna pursed her lip and her eyes stayed on the ground. She didn't realize she was nodding her head, but Robby noticed. He looked to his sister before he turned to Miguel, raising his eyebrows.

"Got something to say?" He asked. His eyes moved back to Jules. "Either of you?"

Miguel and Jules both looked up at Robby; Julianna's eyes wide, realizing she got caught while Miguel glared at Robby.

"I already did." He said. Miguel stood up, starting to walk out of the locker room, but Johnny stopped him, sticking his arm out to block him.

"Hey, I'm not finished." Johnny said and Miguel sighed, gently pushing Johnny's arm out of his way.

"No offense, but I'm pretty sure we've heard enough from you." Miguel said, walking out of the room.

Julianna's foot tapped fast underneath her, trying to decide if she should walk out or stay. But one by one, her teammates started to walk out. Demetri, then Devon, then Lexi.

Jules didn't want to get stuck in the room with her dad, Sam, and Robby and quickly, she grabbed Eli's hand and stood up.

Eli immediately stood up after her, squeezing her hand to silently tell her he was here as they walked out.

As soon as they were out of the locker room, Eli wrapped his arm around Julianna's shoulders and pulled her into his side as they started to walk back towards her room. "You okay?" He asked and Jules nodded, but her heart was practically beating out of her chest

She leaned further into Eli's touch and nodded. "Yeah. Yeah, I'm okay."
