【SEASON 6 EPISODE 6: PART ONE】
"Welcome competitors, senseis, sponsors, and esteemed guests to Barcelona! This years home of the world's greatest karate tournament, the Sekai Takai!" The man Jules remembered as Gunter announce on the stage.
"The Sekai Taikai holds a rich and proud history and if you are here, it's because you embodied all that the Sekai Taikai stands for: leadership, respect, sportsmanship." Gunther said before he raised his hands, gesturing for competitors to step forward.
"Captains, step forward and tie on your headbands." He instructed.
Jules looked up to Robby beside her, the two of them taking a step forward at the same time as Julianna reached into her gi pocket, pulling out her headband.
"Captains, you will have the honor and privilege to compete in our televised Tournament of Champions, but that is only if your dojo does well enough in our team competitions to make it to the final four. Once the tournament is over, we'll then tally all the points your dojos have earned. The dojo with the most points, wins the Sekai Taikai." Gunther explained as Jules tied her headband around her head. She felt a few strands of hair tug as she tightened the headband, but she ignored it.
Once Julianna's headband was tied, she looked around the arena at all of the other captains. When she looked straight ahead, Jules clenched her jaw when her eyes landed on Tory. Jules could tell Tory was struggling to make any eye contact with her or Robby.
She still couldn't believe Tory switched sides, but she wasn't mad at her. Julianna knew Tory was grieving and people grieve in different ways.
Jules looked to Robby; she knew she didn't need to ask this question, but it was practically eating her alive. "You didn't... you didn't know, right?"
Robby immediately shook his head, not being able to take his eyes off of Tory. "No." Robby whispered. He turned to Jules, making sure to keep eye contact with her so she'd believe him. "I swear."
"We have a field trip arranged for our competitors and for our senseis, a cocktail mixer with our distinguished sponsors: some of the worlds finest martial arts brands. It's a beautiful day to make a first impression and I suggest you enjoy it because tomorrow, your lives change forever." Gunther said, making the twins look away from each other and back to him.
Gunther smiled at all of the teams around him, nodding his head proudly. "Good luck and welcome to the Sekai Taikai!"
...
Jules placed her hand on her hip and leaned back to try and crack her back after the long flight and all of the standing she's had to do. Beside her, Miguel and Robby stacked the last round of luggages onto a wagon.
"Listen, you guys go get your room keys, get everyone else settled in, alright?" Daniel said to the three teens, the other five already inside with the rest of their bags.
Johnny nodded in agreement, leaning against their ubers car. "Yeah, we'll take care of the driver. You guys go ahead." He said, pointing to the car he was leaning against but giving his three kids smiles.
Robby and Miguel nodded, starting to walk away but Jules hummed, shaking her head. "No, I'm gonna wait a second..." Jules muttered.
Her eyes watched Miguel and Robby walk away with the last of her teams luggage. She let out the breath she was holding in once she was sure they couldn't hear her anymore and immediately spun around, pointing an accusing finger at Daniel. "This is your fault!" Jules spat, standing beside her dad angrily.
Daniel sighed, shaking his head and waving his arms around to try and calm the girl down. "Julianna—" He started, but he was immediately cut off by the girl pointing to herself. "I have been trying to get her out of the hell hole!" She took a small step forward, shaking her head. "I have been trying to get my friend back for a year! And she finally was on our side! I had her back!"
Julianna's words sounded desperate, everything she had been holding in since the captains competition finally coming out. Her throat burned as her hand twisted around to point back at Daniel. "But you screwed it up! You didn't let me fight her and we lost her all over again!"
Daniel opened his mouth to speak, to try and get in his side, but Jules scoffed and turned around, walking toward the hotel to her team.
Lexi was waiting for her at the doors of the hotel, her arms crossed and an annoyed look on her face. "Our boyfriends are too stubborn for their own good." She said, walking with Jules into the hotel once she got to her.
Jules sighed, turning to Lexi. "They didn't want to room together?" She asked and Lexi pursed her lips, shaking her head. "Nope. I tried to tell them that since you and I were rooming together, I could switch with Hawk at night so you can be with him and I can be with Demetri, but they said that they don't even want to pretend to be rooming."
Julianna's eyes widened, unamused. "Wow, okay, so it's bad." She muttered and Lexi nodded her head, humming in agreement.
Jules smirked, turning to Lexi with a taunting look in her eyes. "Maybe I should bunk with Sam so Miguel and I can switch rooms."
Lexi whipped her head to face Jules, shaking her head as they reached the rest of the team. "Hell no. If I'm sleeping with my boyfriend, you're not sleeping with your boyfriend."
"What?" Miguel said, overhearing the last bit of Lexi's words. All four boys turned to Lexi and Jules, while Lexi just glared at her boyfriend and Hawk. "This is your guys fault."
Demetri opened his mouth to defend himself, to put all the blame on Eli, but his eyes fell on the Cobra Kai's walking up to them from behind Jules and Lexi and his words got stuck in his throat.
Jules and Lexi turned around to see what made Demetri speechless and Julianna's jaw clenched at one of the Cobra Kai boys just barely a foot in front of her.
"Wow... so you're the famous Miyagi-Do. We've heard about you, but I do not know why." The boy closest to Jules said.
His eyes moved to specifically Jules, looking her up and down. When his eyes met Julianna's, he scoffed. "You don't look like much."
Jules glared at the boy in front of her as Hawk took a step forward, placing himself in between Jules and the boy. "Yeah?" Hawk asked, getting right in his face. "You'll see it a lot better when you step on the mat tomorrow."
Robby looked back and forth between Hawk and Jules, and when he realized Jules wasn't going to stop Hawk, he also took a step forward, putting his hand onto Hawk's chest and pushing him backwards.
"Come on, guys. It's not worth it." Robby muttered and Miguel nodded in agreement, turning Hawk around to face him instead of the Cobra Kai's.
"Robby's right. Forget about them, okay? They're just any other dojo." Miguel said, shaking his head.
Jules scoffed at the rivals, turning back around to her team when Tory sped past, her head down and her hand gripping her duffel bag. Robby's eyes widened, his whole body tensing at the sight of her.
"Tory..." He whispered and when the girl didn't respond, Robby followed after her. Jules watched her brother go with a small frown. He skidded to a stop when he reached the elevators.
"Should we be worried about him?" Eli asked, walking up to stand beside Jules. His arm wrapped around her shoulders, the two of them still watching Robby as Miguel shook his head.
"No, Robby's gonna be fine." Miguel reassured and Jules had to hold back a scoff. From behind her, Demetri pursed his lips. "I wouldn't be fine." He admitted.
One by one, the teens slowly turned to face him. Miguel whacked his arm, glaring at him slightly. "Dude!" He reprimanded, but Julianna shook her head, looking between her friends.
"No, Dem's right." Jules defended before she looked up at Hawk, shaking her head. "If you went back to Cobra Kai and weren't speaking to me..." Jules looked back to her brother and let out a low whistle as she shook her head. "It'd be bad."
As she finished her sentence, Julianna's shoulders straightened as she thought about how similar her and her twin were. She gulped, her back straightening as she realized she may really have to worry about Robby.
...
After settling into their rooms, all competitors had to go on the field trip to the aquarium. Jules wasn't complaining one bit; she loved the aquarium. What she didn't like was the group photo of all the captains in front of one of the huge tanks.
"Now, everybody smile and say, 'Barcelona.' One, two, three." The photographer said, holding the camera up to his eye. Jules stepped closer to Robby, wanting to get the photos over with already.
The man took the photo, everyone saying "Barcelona" just like he said to do, and the man smiled. "Sexy, everybody, louder!" He said and as everyone around her followed the man's directions, Jules quietly groaned.
"I would rather jump into the water behind me." She muttered, only loud enough for Robby to hear her.
When he didn't respond, Jules looked up at Robby and immediately whacked him when she noticed him staring at Tory. Robby whipped his head to his sister, his eyebrows furrowed, but Jules just shook her head. "Stop that!" She whispered.
"Okay, let's get one more." The photographer hummed and just before he could take the photo, Tory walked away, making the man huff and drop his camera down his neck. "Okay, never mind. We're done."
The teens slowly started to scatter. Robby ran after Tory as Jules walked towards her team, who was waiting for her and Robby right behind the photographer.
As soon as Jules got close enough, Eli stuck his arm out, draping it around her shoulders. "You having fun?" He asked and Jules hummed, leaning into his side.
"Yeah. I haven't been to an aquarium in years. Definitely gonna need an overpriced hoodie and stuffed animal." She said, completely serious. Hawk chuckled, making the girl shake a little in his arms.
They turned to start walking towards the gift shop, the rest of the team following with them. "Oh...let's go see what they have."
The faint sound of people chanting for a boy named "Vlad!" got louder and louder the further they walked down the hallway. Julianna's eyebrows furrowed, her and Hawk speeding up their steps to see what it was.
"What is going on..." She whispered and from behind them, Lexi sighed, shaking her head. "You never walk towards an unknown noise." She grumbled, following them anyway.
The team landed up in a room filled with the rest of the teams, a boy, who Jules assumed was Vlad, walking away from a small wall with two lines of chalk on it.
The boy who looked Jules up and down at the hotel—who Jules now knew as Kwon—started to slow clap, moving all go the attention to him.
He walked toward the wall, shaking his head in disappointment. "Not even close, no one beats mine." He breathed out. When he turned back to the rest of the room, he smirked when he noticed Miyagi-Do walked in.
"Team USA. Everyone knows America's best at everything, right? Let's see! Let's see!" Kwon said as the room laughed at Miyagi-Do.
His eyebrows raised when no one stepped up to the challenge. He looked to Cobra Kai and slowly started to chant, "USA!"
In seconds, the whole room was chanting. Jules looked around, feeling her stomach twist a little before she turned back to Kwon. The boy smirked, raising his hands. "Are you scared? Come on!"
That seemed to be all Kwon needed to say to convince Hawk to join on the challenge because he rolled his eyes, clenched his jaw, and walked toward Kwon with his hand out. "Okay, give me the chalk."
Kwon smirked and Lexi grabbed the boy's shoulder, pulling him back toward her and the rest of their team. "Eli, you're seriously feeding into this?" Lexi whisper yelled like a parent reprimanding their child.
"You rather they call us pussies?" Hawk asked, shrugging defensively. Jules crossed her arms, looking up at Hawk with an uneasy look. Miguel stood beside her, equally displeased with this idea.
"This isn't a good idea." Jules muttered and Hawk turned to her, tilting his head and giving her a small smile he hoped you calm her a bit. "Hey, it's okay. It's not like it's a fight or anything." He then turned to Miguel and punched his shoulders. "Toughest guy in prison, right? You said that."
Lexi's head tilted at that. She could've sworn Demetri was the one that said that. She was pretty sure she was probably just wrong until Miguel started shaking his head. "No. No, I didn't say that. I don't agree with that idea at all." Miguel said and Devon rolled her eyes.
"You know what? This is dumb." She grumbled, leaving the room. Lexi watched the girl go with a sigh, shaking her head. "Wish I could do that." She muttered ever though the girl couldn't hear her.
"Yo."
Another Cobra Kai member, a boy Jules didn't know the name of yet, walked right up to Hawk, tilting his head as he scanned him up and down. "Are you really the best your dojo has to offer?"
"I'm tough enough to kick your punk ass." Hawk shot back, immediately getting in the boys face.
"Please, you're not even captain!" Kwon complained. When Hawk turned to him, Kwon shrugged. "Where is he?"
"I'm right here." Robby announced, walking up from behind Jules. He looked over the group before he turned to specifically Jules. "Come on, guys. We're leaving." He said, nodding his head towards the exit. Jules was tired; after her flight and finding out about Tory, all she wanted to do was sleep, so she followed after her brother.
"You always walk away from a challenge?" Kwon asked the back of the siblings heads as they walked away. When he didn't get the reaction he had hoped for and they continued walking out, he tilted his head condescendingly. "Or is it because girlfriend is on our team?"
The twins stopped in their tracks at same time, Robby angry at Kwon's words, while Jules shut her eyes and sighed, knowing that Kwon finally got into Robby's head.
Before they could turn around to face Kwon, Julianna turned to her brother and shook her head. "Don't let him get into your head." She whispered as her team started to circle them.
"Hey, you've got this." Hawk whispered, handing Robby the stick of chalk. Miguel and Jules both turned to Hawk, their eyes wide and their jaws fallen.
"What?" Miguel whispered and Jules grabbed Hawks arm, pulling him back and away from their team. "Eli!"
"What, I gotta kick above that line?" Robby asked, pointing to the tallest line in the wall as if it were nothing. Kwon raised his eyebrows, walking toward Robby. "Too easy for you? Okay, let's make bet, then."
He walked towards Robby until they were inches apart. "You kick, then I kick. You win, you get my room. I win, I get your room." Kwon said Lexi groaned while Jules covered her face at the bet.
"You're on." Robby said and Demetri looked at Robby in completely betrayal. "Robby." Demetri complained. Lexi chuckled from beside him, crossing her arms over her chest. "Bet you wish you and Hawk were sharing rooms now, huh?" She taunted and even though Demetri did wish that now, his main focus was on the possibility of losing his bed.
"You're gambling our rooms away? Isn't that like... a team decision?" He asked Robby.
Robby's face scrunched, shaking his head. "I'm not gambling. I'm getting us an extra room." He said, patting Demetri on the shoulder. Demetri looked at the boy in shock, his eyes going back and forth between the hand on his shoulder and his eyes.
"That's gambling. He's gambling." Demetri complained, turning to Lexi before he turned back to Robby, realizing this was actually happening in real time. He quickly nodded his head and took a deep breath. "Okay, just give it a good running start."
Eli nodded at Demetri's advice, pointing to him in agreement. "That Russion guy that went before you jumped way too early. The physics behind–" Demetri cut Hawk off, waving his arms around to shut him up before pointing to himself. "Hey! I'm telling him. I know the physics. I'm going to a school world-renowned for it."
Jules dropped her head and punched the bridge of her nose at the MIT fight coming up again. Eli rolled her eyes from beside her. "Oh my God. Sure, 'I'm going to MIT.' I get it." Hawk mocked.
"Hey, guys, please. Will you quit it?" Jules snapped at the two before turning to her brother, her demeanor visibly calming. "You've got this." Jules said, rubbing her brother's shoulder.
Lexi winced as she looked at the line, her head tilting as she tried to think of how Robby could reach this. "Are you sure... that line is like..." Her eyes moved to her boyfriend than back to the board. "Taller than Demetri."
Robby ignored Lexi, walking up to the board slowly before running. He jumped, kicked his leg up, and made a line a good three inches higher than Kwons.
The room cheered, Juliannas hands flying to her mouth to hide her excitement.
They didn't get much time to celebrate though. Kwon ran up, letting out a battle cry as he jumped and skimmed the wall, his new line getting even higher than Robby's.
Julianna's excitement was gone in seconds, her shoulders deflating as Lexi stood beside her in absolute shock. "No way." Julianna whispered under her breath.
Kwon took slow strides to Robby, a shit-eating grin on his face as he held his hand out for Robby and Demetri's room keys.
Robby sighed, pulling his out of his wallet and held his hand out for Demetri to give him his. Once Demetri fished his out of his pocket, Robby handed the two cards to Kwon, and he chuckled. "Don't worry. I leave your bags in the hall."
