Chapter 78.

"I AM INEVITABLE."

SNAP.

"AND I... AM... IRON MAN."

"DADDY, NO!"

SNAP.

BRIANA WOKE UP WITH A GASP AS SHE SAT UP IN HER BED. She gripped the edges of her bed as she took deep breaths. As she calmed down and realized that it was another nightmare, she covered her face with her hands as she felt tears filled them. It was clear that her father's death took quite a troll on her, god, she missed him so much.

Ever since she visited his grave, she made a promise to keep the rest of her family safe, and she vowed to make her father proud. But every night, every nightmare she had was full of guilt. That sacrifice, it was supposed to be her. She was the one who was supposed to make it. She never wanted her father to do it, and now he was gone.

And even though she loved her father, the nightmares never stopped. She heard the sound of her bedroom door creaking and quickly wiped her tears away.

"Big sissy?"

Morgan came into the room and her tiny legs moved towards the side of the bed.

"Hey, little sis." Briana tried to sound okay, but her mind was still on the nightmare.

"Sissy, can I keep you company?" Morgan asked.

Briana smiled softly and nodded. Morgan smiled happily and climbed onto the bed as she laid back down next to her sister, Morgan got closer to her older sister as she smiled.

"Sis?"

"Yes, Morgan?"

"Can you tell me a bedtime story?"

Briana looked down at her, "Which one?"

"Can you tell me one about Spider-Man and Waterstorm?" Morgan asked.

Briana smiled and nodded. She thought about it for a bit and then began her tale of how three superhero friends followed the iron hero into space. Morgan smiled happily with excitement in her eyes as she listened to her sister's story. Towards the end of the story, "Sis? Is a boyfriend someone you love?" Morgan suddenly asked.

"Well, yeah... Who told you that?" She asked.

"Cat," Briana chuckled. Whenever she hung out with the Parker siblings, Catherine would always spread a little of the gossip to little Morgan, brightening up the little Stark's eyes with happiness and excitement.

"So, Peter is your boyfriend!" Morgan said excitedly, glad to figure something out.

Briana felt her eyes widen as her cheeks flustered a bit, "What? N-no, me and Peter are just friends."

"But you both like each other,"

"Did Cat tell you this?"

"Cat and AJ," Morgan informed.

Briana chuckled, she should have known that her best friend and the girl who's like a sister to her were going to tell her one day.

"Alright, time for bed. Night, sis. Love you," she mumbled as she laid back, her little sister in her arms.

"Love you too, big sis," Morgan said sleepily. The two Stark sisters then fell asleep in each other's arms with soft smiles on their faces.

"Gone, but not forgotten." Betty says.

"Thanks to Kenneth Lim and Vihaan Ramaurthy for their help with that touching video tribute." Her partner, Jason says.

"This year has been nothing short of—" Betty says, only to get interpreted by Jason's swearing and the sound of a bleep. "Jason."

"What?"

"No swearing,"

"It's like the last day of school, we're good." Jason shrugs off.

"Historic. Over five years ago, half of all life in the universe, including our own Midtown High was tipped from existence. Then eight months ago, a band of brave heroes brought us back. They called it they Blip.'" Betty says. "Those of us who blipped away came back the same age, but our classmates that didn't blip had grown five years older."

"Yeah, like my little brother is now older than me." Jason says.

"Yeah, it's math. Even though we had blipped away halfway through the school year and had already taken midterms, the school made us start the year over from the beginning." Betty says.

"It's totally unfair. It's not right," Jason complained.

Betty sighs, "Tigers... it's been a long, dramatic, somewhat confusing road. As we draw this year to a close, it's time to move on... to a new phase of our lives."

"Pray nothing crazy happens again because are the Avengers a thing anymore? Does anyone even have a plan?" Jason asked.

"I HAVE A PLAN." PETER PARKER TOLD NED LEEDS AS HE SAT DOWN.

"First, I'm gonna sit next to Briana on the flight. Second, I'm gonna buy a dual headphone adapter and watch movies with her the whole time." Peter began, listing off his plan as his best friend nodded. "Three, when we go to Venice, Venice is super famous for making stuff out of glass, right?"

Ned nodded, "True,"

"So I'm gonna buy her a sapphire necklace because her birthstone is sapphire since her birthday is in September. Four, when we go to Paris, I'm gonna take her to the top of the Eiffel Tower, give her the necklace. Then, five, I'm gonna tell her how I feel. Then, six, hopefully she tells me she feels the same way." Peter says.

"Oh, don't forget step seven," Ned added.

"Step seven?" Peter asked, clicking his pen in case he forgot to add something.

"Don't do any of that,"

Peter looked at his best friend with a 'really?' look, "Why?" He asked.

"Because we're gonna be bachelors in Europe, Peter," Ned says.

"Ned," Peter starts.

"Look, I may not know much, but I do know this: Europeans love Americans."

"Really?"

"More than half of them are women," Ned adds.

"Okay. Sure. But... I really like Briana, man, okay? She's beautiful, she's super smart. And sometimes I catch her looking at me, and I feel like I've stood up— she's coming! Don't say anything!" Peter says, quickly hiding his plan.

"What up, dorks?" MJ asks, heading over to the boys with Briana and Maya, who was shyly trying to hide behind Briana so Ned wouldn't see her flustered cheeks. "Excited about the science trip?"

"Hey, yeah, we're just talking about the science trip." Peter says.

"Yeah, and Peter's plan," Ned adds.

"You have a plan?"

"I don't— I don't have a plan,"

"He's just gonna collect tiny spoons when we're traveling to other countries," Ned adds.

"Like a— like a grandmother?"

"I'm not collecting tiny spoons. He's collecting tiny spoons," Peter says, gesturing to his best friend.

"Oh, okay, well... that was a real roller coaster. By the way, travel tip: you should probably download a VPN on your phone, just so the government can't track you while abroad," MJ informs.

"Will do,"

Briana sent Peter a soft smile and wave before she and Maya follow MJ, both of their cheeks flustered red.

Ned turned to his best friend, "Dude, I think that went really great,"

Meanwhile as Briana walked down the hall after Maya and MJ, she felt her phone buzzed and took it out to find a unknown number. Immediately knowing who it was, she sent Nick Fury to voicemail and shoved her phone back into her pocket. Can't she enjoy her day without being needed for superhero business?

"HEY, AJ." BRIANA SMILED AS SHE MET HER BEST FRIEND IN THE PARK LATER THAT DAY.

"Hey, Bri," AJ smiled. As the two best friends got closer, they both gave each other a hug before they pulled away.

"How's the production course you're taking?" She asked, just as the two of them started walking a bit.

"It's going great! The course I'm taking even got a paid trip to Paris for the soccer team. I can't wait to see Nate play!" AJ said, smiling big at the mention of her boyfriend.

Briana smirked at her, "Ooh! Is your boyfriend planning something special for you?"

AJ blushed lightly but then glared at her, "Why do you enjoy teasing me about this?"

"Because I'm your best friend, that's my job. Now spill," she smirked.

"Nope!"

"Ugh, fine! But I want details after the trip," Briana said.

"You're one to talk. You sure a certain someone isn't planning to confess?" AJ smirked.

Briana blushed and stuttered, "P-Peter? W-what would he need to confess?"

"I told you, he's into you," AJ says.

Briana rolled her eyes before she chuckled.

AJ then sighed and looked at her, "Hey... do you ever get the feeling that you're trying to be this one thing but you're not so sure if that's what you're supposed to be?"

Briana couldn't help but look at the ground slightly as she let out a sigh, "No, trust me, I feel that way sometimes. It's like every time I step out of a building, a whole bunch of reporters appear around me, asking me the same questions over and over again. I... I don't know if I can even be the next Iron Man."

AJ nodded, feeling the same thing. Since her father was retired, people pretty much kept asking if she was gonna become the next Captain America. She doesn't even know if that's her. She's been used to being known as 'Spitfire.'

As for Briana, she didn't know if she could become a hero, more likely become the next Iron Man like her father. Her father was Tony Stark, for crying out loud! Did she really have what it took to fill in his shoes?

"Man, to think, our lives just got more complicated after the whole Snap saga," Briana chuckled.

AJ laughed, "I'm pretty sure that our lives were always complicating,"

Briana smiled softly before she felt her phone buzzing again. She took it out and saw that it was a unknown caller again.

"Nick Fury?" AJ asked.

"He's been calling me for a while now," Briana said, sending the call to voicemail again.

"You ghosted Nick Fury!? You can't ghost Nick Fury!"

"You sound like Happy now," Briana said rolling her eyes a bit before she sighed. "Look, I'll call him back. I just want to think about a few things. I'll call him later tonight,"

"Positive?" AJ asked, raising an eyebrow at her.

"Positive! I promise,"

"WHEN I BLIPPED BACK TO MY APARTMENT, the family that was living there was very confused," May Parker said through the microphone, as she faced a large crowd in front of her with Spider-Man, Waterstorm, and Iron Girl standing behind her. They were currently in an auditorium type of building, where the charity event named 'Homeless Support' for the people affected by the blip was held in. "The wife thought that I was a mistress. The grandma thought that I was a ghost — it was really a mess. Thank you all for coming out to support those who have been displaced by the blip. And of course, thanks to Iron Girl, Waterstorm, and our very own Spider-Man!"

The crowd applauded, as the heroes stood there awkwardly — none of them knew what to do. It wasn't till May signaled for one of them to come up to the microphone. None of them moved at first, but then Peter made the move and went up to the microphone.

"Thank you May Parker for having me..." he trailed off, before raising his hands to give them all an awkwardly thumbs up. "And thank you guys for having me."

"And thank you, Spider-Man. They'll be right back to take photos and videos. Thank you!" May informed.

They proceeded backstage, and their helmets disappeared once they were backstage. "That was amazing,"

"That was great!"

"That was so cool, I was really nervous,"

"I thought I was a little stiff,"

"You did great,"

"Yeah, I actually thought you were a little stiff,"

"I felt that too,"

The doors behind them suddenly opened — making the teens' helmet quickly come back up as they all whirled around in surprise, only to find Happy walking in with a huge cheque. Realizing that it was only him, their masks disappeared again.

"Happy, hey,"

He walked towards them, only for his eyes to be fixated on May. "You look lovely,"

"Thanks, you too," the older woman responded, smiling.

"Thank you. New dress?"

"Yes," she nodded. "New beard?"

Briana, Peter, and Car looked at them back and forth — before the three looked at each other with confused faces.

"My blip beard. I grew it in the blip," Happy told her, before facing the two teens and young woman. "Blip beard,"

"I see." May said, completely delighted.

Happy finally showed them the cheque, as he looked down on it. "Anyways, so the reason why I'm late is that this was misplaced — can you believe it? — because it's enormous. I mean, not the amount, but the size. The amount and size,"

The two of them talked for a few moments, before the woman told them that she would go back. "Spider-Man, Waterstorm, Iron Girl, go shake hands," she instructed before leaving.

Peter and Cat turned, their eyebrows furrowed in confusion as to what was going on between Happy and their aunt.

"What just happened?"

"Heads up, Nick Fury's calling you," Happy told them.

"Looks I'm not the only one," Briana said.

"Did you answer?" Cat asked.

"Nope!"

"You sent Nick Fury to voicemail!?" Happy asks.

"Again with this? Yes," Briana says.

"Nick Fury's gonna call me? Why?" Peter asked.

The man shrugged, "Why? You're a superhero, he calls superheroes,"

"Well, I mean, if it's really that important then he has to call someone else—" Peter explained, "and not me,"

They heard a certain ringtone, before they walked towards Peter's bag as he took his phone out.

"No caller ID? That's him," Happy says.

"I don't really want to talk to Nick Fury," Peter says.

"Join the club," Briana mumbled.

"Answer your phone, both of you,"

"Why?" Peter asked.

"Yeah, why?" Briana asked.

"Because if you don't talk to him, then I have to talk to him," Happy argued, "And I don't want to talk to him,"

Cat rolled her eyes at the three bickering, before she watched when Briana raised Peter's hand that held his phone and pressed a button on the screen.

"Did you send him a voicemail?" Cat asked.

"You do not send Nick Fury a voicemail!" Happy scolded.

"Do you hear that, Happy? They're calling us," Briana says, trying to get out of this conversation.

"I promise I'll call him, but right now, I have to go. Bye, Happy!" Peter said, getting the hint as he dragged Cat away while he and Briana backed up as they walked.

Happy sighed, "You do not ghost Nick Fury!"

"Watch me!"

"I'll call him later!"

Peter closed the curtains once the three of them stepped through.

"Are you two really going to call him?" Cat asked.

"Right after my trip," Peter said.

"Never in my life," Briana answered.

BRIGHT LIGHTS FROM THE CAMERAS BLINDED BRIANA FOR A BIT. Each reporter suffocated the Stark with questions as they waved microphones and papers near her face.

"Are you the new CEO of Stark Industries?"

"Um, no, not yet," Briana says, a lump feeling caught in her throat.

"Are you the head Avenger now?"

"Uh, no," she answered again.

"Are you going to become the next Iron Man?"

Briana felt her body tensed at the mention of her father. She sucked in a deep breath as she answered, "I-I-I don't know yet,"

"Are you going to follow in the footsteps of your father, the great Tony Stark?"

"And I... am... Iron Man,"

"DADDY, NO!"

SNAP.

Briana felt her breath leave her lungs as everything started spinning. She could hear C.A.S.S.'s voice, but it all sounded like a blur.

"I... I gotta go! Thank you all for coming!" She said quickly.

With that her thrusters turned on and she quickly disappeared from the scene. She didn't remember stopping till she found her suit landing in front of her father's grave. The suit then opened up, and Briana quickly stepped out, falling onto her knees as tears slipped from her eyes and down her cheeks. She gripped the ground, as she heard herself quietly sobbing.

This went on for a bit, till she took deep breaths and looked up with a tear-strained face towards the grave of her father. "I miss you so much, daddy. I... I don't know if I can be like you," Briana whispered.

Once she was calmed, she wiped the remaining tears away from her eyes, but not caring if she had tear-strains on her face, her eyes were all red and puffy from it. She slowly stood up, staring down at her father's grave before she took one last deep breath and made her way into her suit again.

"I really need this break. Calm down, Briana. You're going to Venice tomorrow. Surely, nothing can go wrong there," she told herself.
