Chapter 76.
CLINT REUNITED WITH HIS FAMILY AS HE HIGGED HIS KIDS TIGHTLY, afraid he'd lose them if he'd let go before he went to see his wife again.
PETER STOOD IN THE HALLWAY OF MIDTOWN TECH. He honestly had no idea if his best friend had survived the snap but he got his answer when he looked over and saw Ned Leeds walking over to him.
He smiled softly and walked over to him, both best friends doing their handshake with a small smile then they both shared a hug.
BRIANA STARK LEANED AGAINST HER LOCKER AND STARED DOWN AT HER HANDS. She knew that she still had the power of the Power Stone inside of her, but she missed her father like crazy. She wasn't ready to say goodbye to him. But asides from that, she didn't even know if Maya would still be in school, or even Starr herself.
But when she got off her locker, she got tackled by a figure immediately hugging her, which almost knocked them both to the ground. She didn't need to know that it was Maya. And Briana smiled softly with tears in her eyes as she hugged Maya back.
She smiled softly as she held out her hand, but then Starr pulled her into a hug. Briana smiled and hugged back.
FIREWORKS WERE IN THE SKY OVER THE LANG HOUSE. Scott smiled as Cassie's head rested in his lap and Hope smiled at the sight. Then Scott and Hope looked at each other, both with soft smiles on their faces. Then Hope leaned closer and rested her head on Scott's shoulder as he wrapped his arm around her with a smile. Cassie noticed this and smiled up at them before the three of them went back to watching fireworks.
T'CHALLA STOOD ON THE BALCONY WITH SHURI AND THEIR MOTHER. All three of them watched over Wakanda with soft smiles on their faces.
"EVERYBODY WANTS A HAPPY ENDING, RIGHT? But it doesn't always roll that way. Maybe this time. I'm hoping if you play this back... it's in celebration. I hope families are reunited. I hope we get it back. And something like a normal version of the planet has been restored. If there ever was such a thing. God, what a world. Universe, now. If you told me ten years ago that we weren't alone... let alone to this extent, I mean, I wouldn't have been surprised... but come on, who knew? The epic forces of darkness and light that have come into play. And for better or worse... that's the reality Morgan's gonna have to find a way to grow up in and the reality that Briana has been living in."
The Iron Man helmet rests on the table with its eyes glowing as it shown a pre-recorded message in the cabin's living room for the Stark family and Rhodey.
"So, I thought I'd probably better record a little greeting... in the case of an untimely death. On my part." The hologram of Tony Stark gestures for himself.
Briana felt silent tears make their way down her face as she watched her father's message.
Rhodey had tears on his face as he listened to his best friend's message.
"Not that death at any time isn't untimely. This time travel thing that we're gonna try and pull off tomorrow... it's got me scratching my head about the survivability of it all. That's the thing. Then again, that's the hero gig, right? Part of the journey is the end. What am I even tripping for? Everything is gonna work exactly the way it's supposed to." The hologram of Tony Stark got up from the seat and bent down in front of his two daughters staring directly into their eyes.
"I love you 3,000."
Then the hologram turned off.
EVERYONE WATCHED AS A PILE OF FLOWERS WERE IN THE WATER. On top of the flowers was a arc reactor with the words 'Proof That Tony Stark Has A Heart' around it as it drifted away. Silence filled the air, as they all watched it drifted further away from them with tears in their eyes.
The first ones on the bridge were Pepper Potts-Stark, Morgan H. Stark, Briana Stark, Happy Hogan, and Rhodey all watching with a tear-strained face.
Then next in line was Steve and AJ.
Then the Parker siblings with Aunt May.
Then Thor.
Bruce.
Stephen Strange and Wong.
Hank, Hope, Jane, and Scott.
The guardians minus Gamora.
T'Challa, Shuri, Okoye.
Clint and his family.
Sam, Bucky, and Wanda.
Harley, the kid who helped Tony with his suit during the whole Mandarin issue.
Maria Hill.
Captain Marvel.
Nick Fury himself.
All of these people stood in silence as they honored one of the best heroes that earth would ever know.
"HOW YOU DOING, SQUIRT?" Morgan sat on the lap of her older sister while Happy Hogan sat next to the two Stark girls.
"Good," Morgan said, her voice so soft.
"Good. You hungry?" Happy asked, Morgan nodded. "What do you want?"
"Cheeseburgers," Briana couldn't help but smile softly at the request, remembering the first time she went to eat a cheeseburger with her father. Since that day, cheeseburgers had been her favorite.
"You know, your dad liked cheeseburgers," Happy said.
Morgan looked at her sister, as if she was asking if this was true. Briana gave her a soft smile and nodded.
"I'm gonna get you two all the cheeseburgers you want."
BRIANA STARK STOOD IN FRONT OF HER FATHER'S GRAVE. She felt her eyes watered with tears as she stared at it. Not only did she live in a world without her father, but it was now a world without Iron Man, one of earth's best defenders.
And as she stared at the grave, she felt memories of her time with her father fill her mind. She was never going to forget them, she was going to hold on to them. And so, she bent down and gently placed a flower down in front of her father's tombstone.
"I promise, daddy, I'll make sure they're safe." She whispered, she knew that if he was still here, he knew exactly who she was talking about. "They'll be safe, daddy, I promise. And I promise, I will make you proud."
It was a promise that she intended to keep.
A promise that she'll never forget and make sure that it's kept forever.
