Chapter 09.
Briana Stark
"Tonight's the red-hot carpet is right here at the Disney Concert Hall, where Tony Stark's third annual benefit for the Firefighter's Family Fund has become the place to be for L.A.'s high society," the reporter on the screen says.
At the sound of his name, I look up from the laptop on my lap and Dad leans over the side of the computer screen to see the TV and he blinks, confused. I stop listening to the TV and went back to my laptop screen.
"Jarvis, we get an invite for that?" Dad asks.
"I have no record of an invitation, sir." Jarvis responds.
I look back up at the TV as the reporter on the screen continues on, "...hasn't been seen in public since his bizarre and highly controversial press conference. Tony Stark's and Pepper Potts' fourteen year old daughter, Briana Stark been since either. Some claim he's suffering from post-traumatic stress while she is dealing with the early mental stage of stress," Dad scowls at this, "and both have been bedridden for weeks. Whatever the case may be, no one expects an appearance from the remnants of the Stark dynasty tonight."
I roll my eyes at the reporter and went back to staring at my laptop screen, I was trying to decide what color to use for my suit. I pick a color and watch as the suit comes out with the colors violet.
"I like it. Paint it." I said.
"Commencing automated assembly. Estimated completion time is five hours." C.A.S.S says.
Dad stands up from his desk, "Munchkin, get dressed. We're going out."
I pout, "Please don't make me go, I rather stay here with C.A.S.S and Jarvis and oversee the paint jobs."
Dad pulls a suit out of his walk-in closet, "Come on, munchkin, it'll be fun."
No, it won't.
I frown in defeat, "Fine."
I place my laptop down and went to my room to get change. I found a freshly-pressed and cleaned violet dress and a pair of shoes in my closet. I curly my straight strawberry-blonde hair with mom's curler when I was done putting the dress and shoes on. I got in the backseat of one of Dad's most expensive cars and Dad drove to the party.
When we pull up, the valet welcomes us and eagerly accepts Dad's was of cash. I climb out of the backseat and follow after Dad. A few woman try to flirt with him as we walk by, but one look from me shuts them up.
Hey, first mom and dad are blind, and by blind, I mean they can't see the obviously. Second, I have a bet with Uncle Rhodey and twenty dollars on the line.
"Hey, Tony!" One blonde pipes up, wearing a stupid grin as we pass, "Remember me?"
"Sure, don't." Dad replies.
Dad gives an old man a pat on the back, saying, "You look great, Hef."
I immediately glance over my shoulder as we pass him and the women he's with. I shrug and follow after Dad as Obie comes into view and dad slows the pace.
"What's the world coming to when a guy's got to crash his own party?" Dad asks.
"Look at you two, hey, what a surprise." Obie says.
"Yeah, we'll see you inside." Dad says.
"Hey. Listen, take it slow, all right? I think I got the board right where we want them." Obie says.
"You got it. Just cabin fever. We'll just be a minute." Dad says.
Liar.
Dad went to go get a drink while I look around, trying to hide what I really was at the moment. Uninterested. Bored. Unimpressed.
"Wow. Briana Stark," a voice says as she walks over to me. "Fancy seeing you here."
"Uh, Carrie?"
"Christine," She corrects. "You know, you and your dad have a lot of nerve showing up here tonight. Can I least get a reaction from you?"
"Annoyance." I said, rolling my eyes. "As in, what the hell do you want?"
"Cause I was referring to your father's company involvement in this latest atrocity." Christine says. "I actually almost bought it, hook, line, and sinker."
"Look, me and my dad were out of town for a couple months, in case you didn't hear." I said bitterly, trying to shoo her away.
"Is this what you call accountability?" Christine interrupts, handing me a few pictures. "It's a village called Ignacia. Heard of it?"
"You never say where you're from." I ask Mika as I kept my eyes on the arc reactor in front of me.
"Ignacia, it's a few miles from here." Mika says.
I snapped out of the flashback and took the pictures. I looked through the pictures to see a burnt and destroyed village, children or infants laying on the ground dead, the Ten Rings unloading guns with 'Stark Industries' on it, and the last picture was the Jericho missile. I went back to the picture of the burnt and destroyed village, staring at it.
"When were these taken?" I ask, not wanting to believe it.
"Yesterday," Christine says.
"My dad didn't approve any shipment." I argued.
"Well, his company did." Christine argued back.
"Well, he's not his company." I snapped harshly. "Now shoo."
Christine then walk off and I look around the room. My eyes return to the picture and the image of the burnt and destroyed village remains in my head even after I look away. I walked outside the building and hurried over to Obie, who was about to leave.
"Obie!" I shouted furiously.
"Hey, kid. What's up?" He say, calling me that stupid nickname.
"First, don't call me kid. Second, have you seen these pictures? Huh? What's going on in Ignacia?" I ask.
"Look, I'm gonna tell you what I told your father, you can't afford to be this naive." Obie says.
"I'm not naive!" I argued. "Tell me what's going on in Igancia, Obie. Scared I'm gonna go tell my dad and mom that you're double-dealing under the table?...Are you?"
"Kid. Who do you think locked Tony out? I was the one who filed the injunction against you. It was the only way I could protect him." Obie says.
I glared at him as he walks away towards his car.
You know what? Screw you, Obie.
Iron Man belongs to Marvel
Briana belongs to me
