Chapter Ten
"I have this conference I need to go to today, fatally dull, but I can't miss it." Samantha explains, "You can stay here, if you want or you can hang out with Blakely, or Paul or something."
"Shouldn't we double check with Blake that I can hang out with her?" I ask as I put my hair up.
"Honey, she might go run errands or jogging at most, being a stay at home mother is a full time job. She won't have any objections to a conversation with someone who isn't two."
"If you say so." I shrug, finishing my bun.

Sam drops me off at the end of the driveway, just like she's my mother and I am going on a play date. She tosses me a purse, I check it.
Twenty bucks, chapstick, a couple pens, some gum, a bathroom kit and a phone. I hold it up in question. "I don't want to carry all your stuff for you."
"It's a gift, a bunch of crap I neither need nor want."
"You forgot your phone." I toss it back, but she says, "It's my IPhone 5. I don't use it anymore since I have a 7, you can borrow it until you can get a better one. I already preloaded it with all the essential numbers. The password is 1234 until I can help you customize it." She hands it back and puts on a baseball cap she got from her bag. "Adios, Chica." She says before her car roars down the road.
I begin my long walk to her house, why didn't she just drop my off at the house instead of in the middle of the woods?
When I finally reach the lawn I hear loud barking from behind me. I turn around to see a large black dog growling at me.
Personally, big dogs are my number one fear, I don't know why though. I scream and run to the front door banging my fist into the wood.
"Open open open open open open open." I plead.
I look back and the dog slowly stalks towards me. My heart feels like it is going to beat straight through my chest. My breathing is ragged, the dog snarls. It is readying to pounce me when the door behind opens.
I run inside. Only when I look back, I realize it wasn't Blake who opened the door, it's a man with light brown hair and green eyes. He is dressed in a blue button up shirt and khakis. "Can I help you?"
The dog tries to run inside after me, but the man stops it, "Leave her alone, Nyx!"
The dog immediately freezes, if sits on the porch wagging its tail and panting happily. "Sorry about her." The man apologizes, looking uncomfortable. "Do I know you?"
"I don't-" I start through heavy breathing.
"Andrew, who's at the door?"
I turn around at the new voice, it's Blakely, thank goodness.
"Ember, what are you doing here?"
"That dog just tried to kill me!!" I point accusingly Nyx.
"Didn't you already die?"
"So?" I ask too tired for this crap.
"And they found a way to bring the dead to life."
"Your point is?"
"She couldn't kill you, at least permanently."
"How did I ever deserve such supportive friends?" I stick my tongue out at her, mature, I know.
The man clears his throats. "Sorry to interrupt, but who the heck are you?"
"Who are you?" I ask back. What am I, seven?
"Andrew Murphy, I live here."
"Ah, I remember you, you look different, less acne, deeper voice."
"Who are you?" He repeats.
Since he is so insistent...I bow dramatically, "Ember Wes, the magnificent."
Andrew shoots Blakely a please-help-look.
"Ember, this is my husband, Andrew. Andrew, Ember, you had band with her."
"...On yeah, your the girl that dated the guy with the violin. What's his name...Paul! Yeah, you guys were together until...Wait..."
"That's me." I say.
Andrew sits down next to Nyx. Blake walks over and puts a hand on his shoulder. "I thought it was a prank, a big cruel joke someone came up with. Does that mean? My mother?"
Blakely kisses his hair, the most intimate gesture I've ever seen her make, and rests her head on his shoulder.
A sharp cry echoes through the house, that I am now realizing is giant, and Blake sends me a pleading look.
Taking the hint, I follow the sounds of the cries to a nursery, where Joshua is crying in his half awake state.
"Don't cry, Joshua." I grab him, put an hand on his head and under his butt.
That's what you are supposed to do right?
I bounce lightly and rub his scalp. It's covered in long brown hair, the same caramel as his fathers. His tear strewn face looks up at me. He has switched from sobbing to hiccuping.
I place him on my hip and take him downstairs where Blake and Andrew are hugging. They look up at my approach and Joshua reaches for his mother.
I hand him over and Blakely asks, "Ember, where did you appear when you returned? Your grave?"
"No, I haven't seen my grave." Need to go see it so I can mark, bring my corpse flowers, off my bucketlist. I don't know why it was even on there... "I came back from where I died, in the river."
"So she comes back from where she died? We have to go to the hospital!"
"Andrew, Ember came back almost a month ago. Your mother probably isn't sitting like a duck at the hospital."
"I need to find her, Blakely, I've lived without her far too long."
He pulls on some shoes and a jacket. "Are you coming?"
Blake sighs and turns to me, "Can you hang out with Riley today?"
"I don't know, I can ask." I pull out the yellow phone and type in the code.
Rileys voice is groggy but she says I can come over.
I grab my temporary stuff and head outside to wait for Riley.
----------------------------------------------------- Not the greatest of chapters, but I showed you a picture of a dog. That should improve it at least a little...Unless you, like Ember, are terrified of dogs. In which case I am sorry.
I might be about to make it worse, whoops.
