Chapter 7
Third Person's POV
Knowing the truth, Iris kept her straight face and acted like nothing happened the next day.
"Sister Krone?" she even notice the sister acting weird this morning when she came out from Mama's office in helping the babies. "What are you doing?"
Sister Krone stood up and dust off her clothes from observing the floor just a while ago then answered, "Nothing~"
Iris raised an eyebrow, but nodded before proceeding on doing the laundry with Gilda and Emma.
-----
"Huh? Where's Don?" asked Emma as she look around.
"Come to think of it, I haven't seen him for a while," responded Gilda.
Iris just nod as a sign of agreement.
As the three girls hang the other laundries, Norman and Ray started a talk.
"...Gilda is clean. And based on the emotional breakdown we've seen from Iris last night, she's not the spy." Norman started. "Hey Ray...why do you think spies do their job?"
"Well isn't that obvious? Because there's some sort of benefit to be had from doing so, don't you think?" Ray responded. "For example, they could be offered the chance of escape shipped off and granted an opportunity to grow up to become an adult."
Norman shifted to his thinking position as he mutters, "Guaranteed safety for one's own life, huh..."
------
Later after doing their chores, they soon started to play again. Iris tried to force her self to close her books so that she'll join the others to 'play'.
"I see now. This was all meant to train us before the escape, huh..." Don muttered.
Iris then helped in helping the others improve. And as she observed the young children playing, she realized something.
Isn't it too troublesome to escape with all of us together? We don't even know what's outside the wall, or if there are other humans that could be our allies...
Come to think of it, I don't even know if William Minerva is still alive. The books he published recently lasted on 2015...
As time pass by and dinner was already finished, everyone prepared to sleep. Before Iris could step upstairs, Emma approached her.
As her sister ask her a favor, Iris agreed to help her. They soon started to count their steps as they walk around (a certain room) for some reason.
Iris is still in confusion as they do this until Norman came.
"Emma, do you have a moment? Iris you too. You'll soon find out so it's better to tell you now," he requested.
The girls look at each other before looking back at their brother and nodded. They walk towards the dining room and settled down.
Norman then look at Emma. "I'd like to ask your opinion about something," he started. "What if...there was a child that intentionally become the pawn of demons...and what if that child was ensured their own life by acting as a spy for them...would you leave that child behind? Or would you take that child with you?"
Iris got more confused as she stared at the two but just kept silent and...
...tilted her head. They never told her about this.
(Not mine. Still with the eye patch.)
A spy?
"So...you are saying that if they acted as a spy, they'd be able to live on without getting shipped off?" Norman nodded at Emma's response and she shifted to her thinking position. She then soon look up and told her decision, "I'd take them with us."
Norman widens his eyes as he responded, "...even if that person didn't wish for it?"
"Yup! I'd drag them if I had to! Because if we run away, there's no guarantee that the child's life will be spared." Emma answers as she continue.
"I see. If I'm here, then I'm not a suspect?" Iris interrupted.
"Of course! I'm sure you wouldn't do that!" Emma answered.
Iris' eyes softened as she nods. "Thank you for trusting me."
Their meeting soon ended and proceeded to enter their rooms to sleep.

The litany test ended as everyone inside the room sigh in relief after taking off their headphones while Mama checked everyone's scores.
"Splendid work, you four! Full scores again!" Mama called out the certain top fours as the others congratulated them and some complained. "Don, Gilda...both of your scores jumped up as well! Phil, you too!"
Don and Gilda just smiled as Phil jumps in happiness. "Yaaay!"
"Truly splendid. Keep it up, you too!" Mama crouch down in front of the two as they flinch when she cups their faces. She then turns around and hug Phil as she cuddles him. "Phil, great job to you too!"
After the test, everyone runs out of the house to play with the younger ones. Others help in chores. Iris followed the others outside and walk side by side with Emma.
"So what is the situation with the fake ropes?" Emma asked as the four talked together. Iris already knew last night about the ropes. "Was anyone th-"
"Oh the 'source'? Me," Ray cuts off. Leaving the three dumbfounded. "I...am Mama's personal source."
"..."
"..."
"......"
"...."
"YOU?!" Emma exclaimed in surprise. Norman stayed there, sweat dropping and Iris stood, with a blank face. "Wait...augh...sorry, I have a bit of an outburst there! That was just really shocking revelation and I am not exactly sure where to even..."
"Here, let me explain!" Norman said as he explained what he needs to tell Emma and Iris.
The trap about the ropes reviled that Ray tried to frame Don but the location Don was told was different from what Ray heard and so, he admitted and, Ray and Norman made a deal.
"So basically, he's the source but not necessarily an enemy...and he's been doing it for all these years..." Emma stated.
"So that's why I sometimes see him entering and exiting Mama's office when I had to go do my business at the bathroom at some nights," Iris muttered.
Then, they proceeded to serious conversation. Ray said that he was about to tell them the truth when the two came home that night if only they did not forgot little Bernie on the gate that made Mama realized that someone saw everything what happened on the gate. Iris stared at Emma and Norman in disbelief with that said.
"So the reason why you couldn't tell us until now was because you had to cover for our mistakes, huh?" Emma stated. "And I guess you're really against us taking everyone along."
"Well...not quite. I don't feel that way anymore. You managed to convince me that we should take everyone...and now that you know about the truth about me being a spy, I don't think I would be able to secretly manipulate you into changing your minds anymore. From now on, I'll do my best to make your plan work."
"So they're actually planning to bring everyone...huh..." Iris thought.
"...that's so unlike you!" Emma said. Ray flinch in his movement. "Usually, you never change your mind once you make it up."
"She does have a point," Iris thought.
"Do you think he's lying?" Norman suddenly asked.
"Well, I do think he is...he's being suspicious," Iris did.
"Nope! It makes me really happy!" Emma answered.
"Well, she's being as optimistic as she is..." sighed Iris.
Emma continues until she mentioned about experimenting with the transmitters. "...Does that mean that you've experimented with breaking a transmitter embedded in one of our siblings' ears? If you did...what happened to the child...or the children you've experimented on? You didn't end up bumping their shipping date are you?"
The tension around Emma made the three realize what state she is currently in.
"You haven't sacrifice for our sake, have you?.......I mean if you did, its fine. Thanks to you we can actually escape together with everyone now."
Emma holds Ray's arm as she continues, "But just to make sure, don't you ever dare try something like that again....Your not alone in this anymore. You really aren't."
Ray smiled slightly as he answered, "I promise not to do that again. Let's succeed in escaping this hell, together with all of our siblings."
And with that, the conversation ended. Emma ran towards the others to play with. The three waited until she is in a few distance from them.
"Damn, she was pissed." Ray blurted out.
"Yeah, but she was restraining herself." Norman agrees.
"I've never seen her like that before." Iris said as she nods before she follows Emma, leaving the two behind.
"Oh by the way. Once were back to the house, I have something to report to you guys! But before that, its time for us to practice tag again!" Emma said.
..........
The trio, Don, Gilda and Iris made it to the house and started the conversation.
"So what's the report?"
"In order to 'read' the enemy, we have to know the enemy first. So Gilda, Iris and I try to observe Mama for a few days." Emma answered. "What we found...was that Mama 'disappears' a little before 8 at night."
"'Disappears'?"
"Yeah, during that time, we can never find her anywhere." Gilda answered.
"Its like she disappeared in thin air." Iris added.
"So in conclusion, somewhere in this building, there must be a hidden room that none of us know of."
