First of all, congratulations on your win, how does it feel to be voted first place?
Thank you. Winning was very thrilling especially since this is a community I have always looked up to.
What made you start looking into poetry creation in the first place? Was it anything or anyone? I'd really love to know!
Nothing in particular but I believe I wrote my first actual poem for an assignment of sorts when I was in grade 4 or 5. We were asked to write a rendition of a poem from our English textbook. Outside school work, my first poem was written around the same time. It was on Rabindrinath Tagore, a writer I deeply admire.
Aside from this, I have always loved rhyming. Rhyme time (Sesame Street) was one of favourite books when I was little.
In the long run, are you planning to do more poetry perhaps? Or more writing works?
Of course. I will never cease writing. I have a foe named writer's block though. They sometimes decide my pen's will or the lack of will thereof. They visited me recently.
Concerning my last question, are you planning on pursuing poetry writing as a job or something similar?
No. It will always be a hobby or a side job since I am more interested and passionate about the medical field.
Poetry books aren't like novels in the sense that they're always changing direction unlike books with a usually one-way plot, how do you come up with them?
That's something I wonder as well when I look through my works. It just comes to me when it does. I read a lot and that helps! Currently, I am reading - aside from Wattpad books- Catching fire (Hunger Games book 2)
As well as winning, you've also become a judge in the contest! If possible would you like to say what you love most in a work or something you read?
While reading, my main focus is usually on the characters rather than the plot. I find it interesting to get to know the characters' point of view and their way of thinking.
If you could describe your work in your own words, what would you say? Perhaps a bit dark or so?
I have written about numerous topics. And honestly, I have never really paid much attention to themes until secrets of the shadows. All poems in this collection are and will be rather dark.
Do you ever struggle with your writing? I'm aware that it's not an easy task, if or when you do struggle, how do you overcome it?
Whenever I struggle with writing, I read a lot. Especially books with similar themes. I don't try too hard to finish a piece. I just leave it for a few days or weeks and then finish it later. My recent poem (play, pause, replay) in the collection went through the same ordeal.
Are you trying to achieve anything in your writing? Perhaps a message or something personal if you'd like to tell?
I usually write for fun, to escape, to heal or to vent. While reading, I want people to know that they are not alone and that this too shall pass!
For any new writers and poets, do you have any advice you'd like to share?
Read more and write less. It will help you later. Reread your own work from an analytical point of view to understand better your writing style and skills. Don't chase views or votes, chase comments and reviews. Signing up for contests and stuff is always helpful. And remember to always have fun !!
Thank you so much for the opportunity to interview you! Have a lovely day!
