Seetha
"Appo un paiyana en ponnu'ku kalyanam panni kudu. Avanukku vara vendiya sothu ellaame en ponnuku vara maadhiri pannu"
(Then marry your son to my daughter and make sure all his rightful properties goes to her)
Before anyone could even process her shocking demand, Aayush stormed towards her in uncontrollable rage. But before he could reach her, Appa and I stepped forward, grabbing hold of his hands, stopping him in his tracks.
"Vidunga, Pa! Vidu, Seetha!"
(Let me go, Dad! Let me go, Seetha!)
He struggled against our grip, his fury boiling over.
"Unnaala mudila'nu un amma'va kooptu vandhu nadagam pottutu irukkiyaa? Tholachiruven!"
(Since all your plans failed, now you've called your mother to start a new drama? I'll ruin you!)
He threatened, his glare burning into Maya, who returned it just as fiercely.
Her mother gasped in offense.
"Yaaru nadagam podra? Un appan'te kelu adha. Nadagam avan dha nalla poduvaan. Un amma maadhiri dhane ellaarum iruppinga?"
(Who's putting on a drama here? Ask your father! He's the one who puts on the best show. Aren't you all just like your mother?)
"You..!"
Aayush took another step forward, his hands clenched into fists, but I tightened my grip.
"Aayush! Setha porumaiyaa irungo!"
(Aayush! Stay quite!)
I stated firmly and commandingly before turning to that woman with disgust and saying,
"Manasatchi'nu onnu irundhaa, aththai'ku enna nadandhadhu'nu therinjum avaala pathi ivaa ipdi'laa pesuvaa'laa? Neenga pesiyo, sanda potto onnum aaga poradhu illa"
(If they had any morals, would they talk about my mother-in-law like this after everything she's been through? Arguing with them won't change anything)
I tried to reason. But before I could say another word, Maya's voice cut through the air, sharp and mocking,
"Manasatchi'ah? Manasatchi pathi nee pesuriyaa?"
(Morals? Are you the one talking about morals?)
She took a step towards me, her eyes blazing.
"Naan summa en mama've pathi sonnadhukke avara use panneetu kadaisila vittutu poidlaam'nu nenachava dhane nee? Appo enga pochu un manasatchi? You bitch!"
(I just casually mentioned about my mama, but weren't you the one who planned to use him and leave him in the end? So where did your morals go then? You bitch!)
I froze, my blood boiling as I glared at her, my hands clenching into fists. But before I could react, Aayush ripped himself free from our grasp and rushed at her.
He grabbed Maya by the neck and slammed her against the wall with a force that made the entire room go still.
"Aayush!"
We all shouted, rushing towards him, but his grip only tightened as he glared down at her, his face twisted with rage.
"Who the hell are you calling a bitch? You piece of shit!"
He spat, his voice dripping with venom.
Meanwhile, Maya gasped, struggling to breathe, her hands clawing at his wrist.
But he didn't stop.
"What the hell are you planning against us? Who's that Sanvik to you? What are you two scheming?"
He demanded, his voice echoing through the walls.
Maya's face turned pale as she gasped for air, her body trembling.
We struggled to pull Aayush away, but his rage refused to subside.
Finally, Mama and Appa managed to drag him back, forcing him to let go.
Maya stumbled to the floor, coughing violently, her entire body shaking.
Her mother rushed to her side, dramatically clutching her as though she were on her deathbed.
"Maya! En chello! Unakku onnum illa'le? Maya.."
(Maya! My dear! You're okay, right?)
She cried out, her voice tinged with overdramatic distress.
Maya coughed weakly, her eyes welling up with tears as she clutched her arm whining,
"Maa... it's paining..."
Leaning into her mother's embrace.
I looked at her, disgusted.
Then, her mother helped her to stand up and, without hesitation, stormed towards Aayush. She raised her hand, ready to slap him, but I stepped in, catching her wrist mid-air.
With a firm push, I forced her hand down, my anger boiling.
"Inga paarunga!"
(Listen here!)
I spat before continuing,
"Neenga unga ponnu soldratha kettutu inga vandhu enna pannanum'nu nenaikringalo, adhu nadakave nadakaadhu. Nekkum, avaalukkum yerkanave nichchiyadhartham aayiduthu. Ini aaru nenachalum, engala pirikka mudiyaadhu. So, summa inga ninnu rendu perum drama podama kelambi pora valiya paarunga!"
(Whatever you think we should do after planning with your daughter, it's never going to happen. He and I are already committed to each other. No matter who tries, no one can separate us. So, instead of standing here and putting on a drama, just turn around and leave!)
But, she glared at me, her eyes burning with fury. I took a step forward, and said,
"Ippo enna ungalukku? Unga appa oda sothu venum avlodhane? Adha kaekka vendiya yedathula poi kelunga. Court'le naalum poi case potukonga. Illana unga amma, appa kitta kaelunga, avanga seri'nu sonnaanga'naa apro paathukalaam. Adhellaam vittutu ipdi illegal'ah enga'aathukku vandhu meratteetu irundhinga'naa, police'le complaint pandradha thavara engalukku vera option'eh illa. Kelambunga ingerndhu!"
(What do you want now? You just want your father's property, right? Then go ask for it in the right place. File a case in court if you want. Or talk to your mother and father... if they agree, then we'll see. But if you keep barging into our house and threatening us like this, we'll have no choice but to file a police complaint. Now leave!)
However, she gritted her teeth in frustration and snapped at me,
"En veetukku varadhukku naan yen di legal permission kaettutu varanum? Nichiyam panna enna ippo? Nee po... en ponnu kaluthula dha en marumgan Aayush thaali kattuvaan!"
(Why the hell should I need legal permission to come here? What if they've already fixed the marriage? In the end, it'll be Aayush who ties the thaali around my daughter's neck!)
My anger surged like wildfire.
Who is marrying whom?
Did she really think she could force this?
My hand shot up to slap her, but before I could, I was yanked back into a firm embrace, my arms twisted behind me and trapped between us.
But, I still held my glare on her.
Aayush held me firmly, his grip anchoring my rage, and he turned to the woman, simply saying,
"Mudiyaadhu. Kelambu"
(That's not happening. Leave)
"Mudiyaadhaa? Adhepdi mudiyaamaa pogum?"
(Not happening? How will you stop it?)
She scoffed bitterly.
"Appo en appa sothu ellaam un appa perla irukku. Adha kudukka sollu!"
(Then return all my father's property that's under your father's name!)
I tilted my head to see, Aayush's jaw clenched.
His eyes darkened as he spat back,
"Adha un appan'ta poi kaelu po!!"
(Go ask your father!!)
But, her lips curled into a cold smirk as she asked,
"Sondha thatha yerandhu naalu varsham aachu'nu kooda theriyaama irukka'le nee?"
(You don't even know that your own grandfather has been dead for four years?)
The entire room fell silent.
A collective gasp rippled through everyone-everyone except Mama.
My eyes darted to him, his face etched with an emotion I couldn't quite decipher.
Dead? Aayush's grandfather had been dead for four years? And Aayush had no idea?
But we heard Mama take a sharp, audible breath as he stepped forward, stood before his sister, and spoke in a low voice,
"Arundhati, please. Ingerndhu poidu. Ippodha naan en paiyan, en marumaga, enakku'nu oru kudumbam'nu sandhoshamaa irukken. Nee enna oru dhadavayaadhu un annana nenachu irundhirundhanaa indha veeda mattum enakku pichayaa kuduthuru, ma"
(Arundhati, please. Just leave from here. Right now, I am happy with my son, my daughter-in-law, and my family. If you ever considered me your brother even once, then at least leave this house for my sake)
"Appa!" , "Mama!"
We both exclaimed, seeing him begging that heartless creature.
"En jaya oda nyaabaga arthamaa irukkardhu indha veedu mattum dha please vitru, Arundhati"
(This house is the only thing that holds my Jaya's memories. Please, just let it go, Arundhati)
He clasped his palms together, but Aayush grabbed his hands and pushed them down.
"Enna pa panneetu irukkinga? Adhellaa namma veedu namma kitta dha irukkum. Ivanga venum'ne vandhu nammakitta pretchana pannanume'nu panneetu irukkaanga, pa. Neenga yedhuvum kavala padaadhinga. Ivangala epdi veliya poga vakkanum'nu enakku theriyum"
(What are you doing, dad? This is our house, and it rightfully belongs to us. They're the ones causing trouble because they want it. But don't worry about anything, I know exactly how to make them leave)
He shot a look at Maya and her mother before slipping his hand inside his pants pocket, took out his phone, and dialed someone. I tried to peek, but he placed it on his ear and said,
"Hello, DCP sir"
DCP, Shivadith?
I listened as he said,
"Sir, free'ah?... That's good... Didn't I tell you that two jerks harassed my girl indirectly?"
(Sir, are you free?)
I widened my eyes and looked at Appa, Amma, and Mama, whose gazes fell on me.
I lowered my gaze and heard him say,
"Yeah, one of those bitches is right in front of me. You can come and and fetch it!"
His words were gritted through, and I heard him continue,
"Thank you so much, sir... Konjo seekro vaanga... I'm sure she's already planning her escape... Mmm... Thank you, sir"
(Please come quickly)
He declined the call, looked at Maya while twisting his hand behind and shoving his phone inside his pants pocket, and said,
"You should've just left our sight when my girl calmly told you to. But unna asinga paduthi, varavanga vandhu kooptu ponaa dha poven'nu irundhaa naan enna panna mudiyum sollu?"
(You should've just left our sight when my girl calmly told you to. But if you insisted on staying until someone dragged you away in shame, then what should I do now?)
I smiled but gasped and looked straight when he pulled me into his arms, grabbing my elbow and saw Maya literally sweating while her mother was giving her a squinting, confused gaze.
And I heard his whisper near my ear,
"Go and... do what you told me you'd do to her"
I lifted my face to look at him, and he bobbed his chin towards Maya's side, giving me a wink. I fisted my hands, pulled away from his embrace, and walked towards her before lifting my hand.
She closed her eyes, and her mother shouted for me to stop, but I just placed my hand on her bare shoulder, which was exposed due to her off-shoulder top.
Once Maya opened her eyes to see me, I asked,
"Avara pathi enna'laa pesuna? Ippo paaru di.. adhey aalu dha nee enakku panna thappu'ku enna adikka solli anuppuraaru. Avaru en manasukkum, en kadhal'kum mattum dha yaenguravaru.. nee sonna maadhiri odambukku illa.. apro..."
(Everything you said to me about him, look at how things have turned out. That very same man has sent me to slap you for what you did to me. He longs for my heart and my love, not just my body, as you once claimed... then...)
Once I made sure everyone's gazes were on her and me, I lifted my hand and slapped her hard across her cheek, making her stumble from the force. But her mother caught her and turned to me to shout at me.
"Yeii!"
But, I glared at Maya and said,
"Ini en Aayush'eh thappaa pesanum'nu nee nenachaa kooda ennoda indha adi dha unakku nyaabagam varanum"
(From now on, even if you think of speaking badly about my Aayush, this slap should be the first thing you remember)
Her mother exclaimed to the others,
"Enna idhellaa? En ponna adichuttu irukkaa iva neengalaa paathuttu summa irukkinga?"
(What is this? She is hitting my daughter, and you all are just watching?)
But I completely ignored her and gave another slap to Maya before saying,
"Yaaru yaarukku di mama? Kondruven unna!"
(Who the hell is an mama to whom? I'll kill you!)
I glared at her, pointing my finger, and before she or her mother could say anything, I slapped her again. Her mother cried out, trying to protect her, but I ignored it and struck her once more.
She winced in pain, and anger flared inside me as I remembered how she had tried to separate us with her evil plan with that Sanvik.
I raised my hand to slap her again, but her mother grabbed my wrist and pushed me back. I stumbled, but Aayush caught me by the waist, keeping me steady.
Still, I didn't take my eyes off her.
How dare she?
I struggled against Aayush's hold, wanting to hit her again, but I stopped when we suddenly heard a voice.
"Mr. Aayush Kumar?"
We all looked at the doorstep to see the police officer-not Shivadith sir.
Aayush let go of me, not before patting the side of my head to calm me down.
He stepped forward, shaking hands with the officer who said,
"I am Prakash. Inspector of police"
"Hello, sir. I am Aayush Kumar"
They talked formally, but I couldn't hear anything as Amma and Appa engulfed me in a hug from either side, making me feel a little calmer.
Soon, a lady inspector stepped forward and arrested Maya, only stating that she had harassed me indirectly, without saying the exact thing. Both women left the house, but not before her mother gave Aayush, Mama, and me an intense glare.
Once they left,
"Enna di aachu? Enna harrasement'laa choldraa? Enna thango aachu nokku? Nee nallaarke'le?"
(What happened, dear? What harassment are they talking about? What did they do to you? Are you okay?)
Amma asked me, checking me thoroughly from top to toe. I grabbed her arm and hugged her tightly, saying,
"Nekku onnum aagala, ma. Nee yedhuvum yosikaadha"
(Nothing happened to me, Ma. Don't think about anything)
She patted my head, and I felt Appa's hand caressing my hair. I pulled back from Amma and hugged Appa, who caressed my hair and kissed the top of my head, asking,
"Nokku onnu illa'le, papa?"
(There's nothing wrong, right, kid?)
"Onnula, pa. Naan nanna dha irukken"
(Nothing, Pa. I am perfectly fine)
He hummed in response, and I pulled back to look at Mama, who was deep in thought.
I walked over to him and grabbed his hand, calling him,
"Mama"
He snapped back to reality and smiled at me slightly. I smiled back, but I frowned when he turned to my parents with his comforting hand cupping the side of my head and said,
"En marumagala seekro en paiyanukku kalyanam panni kudupping'laa, samandhi?"
(Will you get my daughter-in-law married to my son soon, in-laws?)
Whatttt?!
I looked at my parents swiftly, who shared a glance before smiling at each other.
Then they turned back to Mama and amma said,
"Naangale ungakitta epdi kekuradhu'nu nenachuttu irundho. Patta kashtam ellaam podhum. Iniyum yethana paeru varuvaanga'nu therila. Namma kozhandhainga mela romba kannu pattute irukku. Maapla'uhm sondhamaa football ground'eh paathu, adhoda vaela ellaam ippo nadandhuttu irukku. Iniyum yen kalyanatha thalli podanum? Neenga samadham sonnaa adutha vaarame kooda kalyanatha muduchurlaam"
(We were wondering how to even ask you about this. We've already been through enough hardships. We don't know how many more people will come after this. There's been too much evil eye on our children. Even Maapla has found his own football ground, and everything is falling into place. So why should we delay any further? If you agree, we can even finish the wedding by next week)
What the hell? Next week?
I looked at Appa, who also said,
"Nekkum idhula samadham dha, samandhi. Neenga mattum dha sollanu"
(Even I agree, in-law. It's up to you to decide)
I snapped back to Mama, who smiled at me and then looked back at my parents before saying,
"Appo yedhukku innu thalli podanu? Adutha vaarame kalyanatha panneerlaam"
(Then why delay any further? Let's get them married next week)
I widened my eyes and looked at Aayush, who had a surprised look at his father before turning to me.
His smirk appeared in an instant before he winked at me, making me look away and lower my head, blushing.
Perumaaley!
(Oh my God!)
(✿^‿^)(☉。☉)!
Two days later,
Groping my ass and pulling me closer, he was practically devouring my lips.
I tried to push him away in afraid of getting caught as we were right in front of the trial room in a clothing store, and anyone could walk by at any moment.
But he didn't seem to care in the slightest, deepening the kiss with no hesitation. My heart pounded, torn between the thrill and the desire, until,
A sharp gasp!
I shoved him away forcefully, my eyes widening as I saw Kamali standing there, her hands empty while the readymade blouses she had selected for me lay scattered on the floor beside her feet. I groaned, palming my face in frustration, but she remained frozen in shock.
Turning to him in anger, I raised my hand to hit his chest, but he swiftly caught my wrists, pinning them above my head against the wall.
My breath hitched, but before I could react, he placed a quick peck on my lips, tilting his head just enough to shield my face from Kamali's view, without giving her a glimpse of our kiss.
He then left me, strolled away, walking past the still-shocked Kamali as if nothing had happened.
I quickly snapped out of it, dropped my hands down, rushed to her, bent down to pick up the blouses, and grabbed her wrist, pulling her into the narrow path before the trial room.
Then seeing her still standing before me in a same shock, I smacked her shoulder to bring her back to reality.
Finally, she blinked, still dazed, and murmured,
"Did I just watch a live lip-lock between my shy bestie and my grumpy professor?"
I huffed, smacking her again on the shoulder before exclaiming,
"Cut that 'my' before the professor! Illanaa naan, unna cut panneeduven"
(Otherwise, I'll cut you off myself!)
I made a scissor-like motion near her lips before stepping into the trial room and locking it behind me.
A wide grin spread across my face as I felt the warmth of my blush taking over. Pressing my hands to my cheeks in an attempt to subside it, I took a deep breath before slipping out of my kurta.
Then, opening the door slightly, I grabbed Kamali's wrist and yanked her inside.
And she yelped, immediately covering her face with her palms,
"Chi, chi, chi! Naan andha maadhiri ponnu'laa kedaiyaadhu di, maami!"
(Ew, ew, ew! I'm not that kind of girl, woman!)
I sighe, slapping my forehead, before tossing the designer saree-the one chosen for my and my professor's reception-over her head.
"Katti vidu, pakki. Adhukkudha iluthen!"
(Just help me drape it, fool. That's why I pulled you in!)
She flashed me a sheepish smile before helping me drape the saree properly.
Once I was done, I checked the fit in the mirror and smiled wide, admiring how stunning I looked in the designer saree-the one chosen by my man.
I blushed as I recalled the way he had teased me earlier, his fingers grazing the fabric while whispering naughty things like,
"It will look even more beautiful on our bedroom floor than on your body"
His fingertips had traced the intricate designs while locking eyes with me, making me feel jittery, and in the guise of helping me, he had tried to sneak inside the trial room-only for it to end with a hot, breath-stealing kiss.
I was still lost in those memories when Kamali's voice snapped me back to reality.
"Naan sonnen'le nee semma figure'nu! Paaru, iduppa ennaalaye paakama irukka mudila. Naan unna photo pudichu un sexy photos folder'le podren, iru. Aana namma professor romba kuduthu vachavaru di, maami!"
(Didn't I tell you that you have an amazing figure! Look at that waist! Even I can't take my eyes off it. I'm going to click your picture and save it in your sexy photos folder, wait. But our professor is truly blessed, girl!)
She poked my exposed waist, making me gasp and swat her hand away.
We checked the fit once again before she stepped out, capturing my picture sneakily. I quickly undraped the designer saree, changed back into my kurta, and stepped outside with the saree and readymade blouses in hand.
Together, we walked over to my parents, my grandmother, my relatives, my mama, Elango Anna, and of course, him-Aayush.
The moment Amma saw me, she asked about the dress fit, and Kamali, ever the troublemaker, proudly showed her the picture. Amma's eyes sparkled with delight, and to my horror, she cracked her knuckles right there in front of everyone, making my face turn completely red.
"Azhagu di nee!"
(You're so beautiful, dear!)
"Innum moonu maasam ellaam kalyanatha thalli potaa, en peran kannae nokku mulusaa patrum po!"
(If we delay this wedding by another three months, my grandson will be completely ruined just by looking at you!)
My grandmother exclaimed.
The entire group burst into laughter, including the salespersons. I shot a glare at Parvathy, who simply grinned at me before taking an evil eye off me and cracking her knuckles just like Amma had done.
I sighed and stood there silently as everyone got busy selecting our wedding saree.
Absentmindedly, I tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear and turned slightly, only to catch sight of him.
But, he was staring at his phone, zooming in on something with his fingers, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.
Narrowing my eyes in suspicion, I tried to get a better look at the phone-and when I finally realized what it was, my heart stopped.
It was Kamali's phone!
And he was looking at my pictures.
Pochu, pochu.
(I'm done for)
My hands clenched into fists as embarrassment washed over me completely. A fresh wave of horror hit me when I remembered-Kamali had saved some inappropriate pictures of mine in that folder.
Perumaaley!
(Oh. My. God!)
I turned my gaze to Kamali, who was standing between Aayush and Elango Anna, chatting away with Elango Anna.
Desperate to get her attention, I subtly waved my hand at her, but before she could notice, I was caught red-handed.
Aayush tilted his head slightly to the left, raising a brow at me with an amused expression.
I flashed him a nervous smile before quickly turning back to pretend I was admiring the saree collections. But through the corner of my eye, I caught him chuckling, shaking his head before casually making his way towards me.
Achacho!
(Oh no!)
Panic surged through me as I scanned the area for an escape route. That's when I spotted my grandma standing between Mama and Appa, balancing herself with a hand on the chair, looking a little tired.
Perfect!
Wasting no time, I swiftly moved away from Aayush's path and positioned myself beside Paati.
"Paati, vaa vandhu utkaaru anga"
(Paati, come and sit down here)
I said, trying to sound as casual as possible.
"Paravala di. Naan nikkiren"
(It's okay, dear. I'll stand)
She replied, completely unaware of my actual intention.
"Illa, paati. Naan choldradha kaelu. Apro nokku kaalu veengikkum. Vaa utkaaru"
(No, Paati. Listen to me. Otherwise, your legs will start aching. Come and sit down)
I insisted.
But, paati eyed me suspiciously. I gulped, worried that she might see through my little act. But before she could say anything, Appa came to my rescue.
"Adhaa Seetha soldraa'le ma? Ponga poi utkaarunga setha neram. Saela eduthuttu kaamippaa"
(Seetha is telling you, right, ma? Go sit down. She will show you the sarees)
Appa said.
Paati nodded, trusting her son's words more than my anxious ones, and walked over to sit in the chair.
Thank God!
I quickly sat beside her, pulling out my phone and showing her some old pictures to keep her engaged-anything to avoid getting alone time with him. Because judging by that smirk on his face, I knew one thing for sure-he had definitely seen my pictures.
Indha Kamali'eh enna dha pandradhu!
(What am I going to do with this Kamali!)
I whined internally, my mind cursing her while my heart pounded in embarrassment.
Unable to resist, I peeked up-and there he was, still scrolling through Kamali's phone with that same teasing smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.
Heat rushed to my cheeks, and in frustration, I stomped my foot on the chair I was sitting on, pouting like a child. But instead of reacting to him, I turned my focus back to Paati, nodding at the pictures on my phone like they were the most interesting thing in the world.
But no matter how much I tried to focus on Paati and the pictures in my phone, my mind was completely occupied with those photos of mine in Kamali's mobile.
And to make it worse, it pulled me into a flashback-a memory I had no reason to relive at this moment.
That night...
When we stayed at a hotel near Srirangam with our relatives, all the other rooms had already been taken by my parents and extended family. So, Kamali and I ended up sharing a separate room, just the two of us. That night, out of nowhere, Kamali shoved me into the restroom, stuffed a bundle of fabric into my hands, and locked the door from the outside.
I groaned, knocking on the door.
"Kamali, open the door!"
But she didn't respond. Sighing, I unwrapped the dress in my hands, only to freeze.
It was a deep wine-colored satin nightdress-barely reaching mid-thigh, with thin spaghetti straps and a plunging neckline lined with delicate lace.
My eyes widened.
What the hell?!
"Kamaliii! Enna di idhu? Open the door!"
(What's this?)
I whined, knocking on it repeatedly.
But there was no response.
I huffed in frustration, glancing at my reflection in the mirror.
There was no way I was wearing this!
Mudiyave mudiyaadhu.
(I can't)
Yet, as the minutes passed and Kamali showed no signs of letting me out, I sighed in defeat. Huffing, I removed my night wear top and track pants and wore the night dress she insisted and looked at myself in the mirror, stunned.
The silky fabric hugged my body too well, making me feel both exposed and strangely beautiful. The delicate lace at the neckline highlighted my collarbones, and cleavage, while the short hemline had me tugging at it instinctively, feeling a mix of awkwardness and nervous anticipation as I took in my reflection.
Slowly, I turned the doorknob and opened the door, feeling all shy. Then, the moment Kamali saw me, she gasped dramatically, her eyes widening like she had just seen a famous celebrity on the red carpet.
"Wowwww! Girl, what the heck?! You look absolutely stunning! Wait wait wait.."
She squealed and rushed over to me. Before I could ask what she was up to, she grabbed my wrist and lifted my hand, pressing it against the bathroom door frame above my head.
"Hey, enna di pandra?!"
(What are you doing, girl?)
I exclaimed, confused.
But, she shushed me, placing my other hand just below the first one.
"Back'eh konjo maela yaethu"
(Raise your butts a bit)
"Hein?"
I blinked at her.
She rolled her eyes, sighing dramatically before striking a pose in the air.
"Ipdi nillu!"
(Stand like this!)
I shot her a glare.
"Podi! Amma mattum paathaa avlodhaan!"
(Go away, girl. If my mom sees this, I'm done for!)
"Amma, amma, amma... nillu di pesaama! Back'eh thooku!"
(Stay quiet and raise your butts a bit)
She scolded, determined.
I groaned but somehow ended up following her ridiculous instructions, adjusting my posture to her liking. Then she grinned mischievously, saying,
"Mouth konjam part pannu"
(Part your mouth a little)
I sighed, doing as she said, and before I knew it, she was snapping photo after photo.
Some with my hand resting on the back of my head, others with me leaning against the door frame, tracing my fingers up my knee, and so on. Once she was satisfied, she dragged me to the bedpost leg, made me hug it while tilting my head back towards the ceiling, and took even more shots.
That was fun, actually.
And, of course, I made her suffer too.
The moment she changed into the same dress, I grabbed her phone and took just as many embarrassing photos of her.
All the night, we laughed, posed, and goofed around till the early morning hours, enjoying ourselves to the fullest and we saved those damn sexy photos of us in separate folders-Munima(me) and Rangamma (Kamali)-completely unaware of the trouble they would cause in the future.
But, I jerked back to the present from that night when I heard,
"Hey, Munima"
I gasped and turned to see his mischievous smirk.
My eyes darted beside me-Paati was gone!
And then came his teasing voice again,
"Paati appove endhiruchu poitaanga. Adha kooda gavanikkaama enna yosichuttu irundhinga... Munima?"
(Paati left long ago. You were so lost in thought that you didn't even notice, Munima?)
Aiyo!
I shut my eyes for a second, took a deep breath, and turned to him, whispering,
"Don't call me that"
"That, what? Munima?"
He asked, teasingly.
I whined and scratched his bicep with my fingers, begging,
"Please please please adhu ava panna vela. Naan adhellaa venaa'nu dha sonnen"
(Please, please, please. That was all her doing. I told her I didn't want any of it)
I lied.
He raised his brows at me, amused, and asked,
"Venaam'nu sonniyaa? Paathaa apdi therilaye, ma. Nalla happy'ah dha ellaa pose'uhm kuduthirukka"
(You said you didn't want it? But they doesn't seem like it, ma. You happily gave all the poses)
But I shook my head and said,
"Illa, pa. Naan venaa'nu dha sonnen first'uh.. apro.."
(No, pa. I said I didn't want it at first, then..)
"Apro puduchiruchaa?"
(Then you ended up liking it?)
He finished for me.
I blinked at him innocently, but he wasn't falling for it.
He grabbed the back of my hand resting on the chair's armrest and said,
"Don't blink at me like that. You're not innocent. Enna nee yaemaatheete, Seetha"
(Don't blink at me like that. You're not innocent. You fooled me, Seetha)
I gasped in shock and slapped his hand that was holding mine.
"Romba pannaadhel. Adhu verum photo dhane?"
(Don't overdo it. That was just a photo, right?)
He leaned in closer, his face just inches from mine, and whispered,
"Verum photo'va adhu?"
(Just a photo?)
His eyes flickered to my lips before slowly moving down, making me blush as I sat up straight and leaned back against the chair.
My cheeks burned when I realized he must have seen all my photos-probably zooming in like a total creep. And the worst part? I had unknowingly posed like a dirty wife matching her equally dirty husband.
Made for each other!
Bhagavaaney.
I bit my lip to stop myself from chuckling and heard him clear his throat before he gently squeezed my hand. I lowered my gaze, feeling the warmth spread across my cheeks as his thumb softly grazed the back and sides of my palm and fingers. My heart fluttered at the touch until,
"Seetha!"
My mother's voice snapped us back to reality.
We both saw her, stood up, and walked over, him trailing closely behind me.
Amma and my aunt stood before us, presenting three selected Madisar sarees for our wedding-one in pink and green, another in purple and green, and the last one in orange and dark green.
I looked at them, then turned back to him, lifting my face to meet his eyes.
He smiled, standing beside me, and asked,
"Unakku enna puduchirukku?"
(Which one do you like?)
I smiled back and said,
"Nekku therila'nga.. neengale onnu select pannunga"
(I don't know... you choose one)
He raised his brows at me, then shifted his gaze back to the sarees. After a moment, he picked up the pink and green saree and placed it over my shoulder.
And amma immediately responded,
"Irunga, naan vachu kaamikiren"
(Wait, let me place it over her and show you)
She carefully arranged the saree over me, adjusting it to give a proper look, then stepped back to examine it.
I smiled, and lifting my face to see his reaction.
He stood there with one arm folded under his chest, while the other's fingers resting thoughtfully against his lips. He took in my appearance for a moment before his lips curled into a smile. Then, he raised his hand, forming a super sign with three fingers.
And, I couldn't help but grin, blushing.
I gave the saree back to Amma, finalizing our choice-but not before turning to Appa, Mama, Kamali and Paati for their opinions.
Then, as I nudged him away, trying to stop him talking nonsense about the poses I had given in those photos, but, he smirked and said,
"Nadikaadha di, Munima"
(Don't act, Munima)
I sighed heavily, exasperated, and raised my hand to hit him, but before I could, Amma called out again,
"Seetha"
I immediately turned to her and responded,
"Ahn, varen ma"
(I'm coming, Ma)
Without another word, I walked over to her, and-as usual, he trailed behind me.
But, as we approached Amma, Mama came from behind, calling Aayush to join him. I turned to look at him, and he turned to look at me as well before walking away from me. I quickly snapped my attention back to Amma, who cleared her throat and said,
"Seetha enkooda vaa"
(Seetha, come with me)
I blinked at her, then trailed behind her, turning again to see Aayush rolling his eyes at his father in an annoyingly playful way. Mama pinched his cheek with a teasing smile, making me smile at them.
I felt content watching their interaction.
And I imagined how it would have been if Jaya Ma were still here.
They would have been the cutest family.
I couldn't help but blink, staring at them before I was snapped out of my thoughts by a sudden grip on my hand.
Turning back, I saw Kamali, smiling mischievously, and raising her brows, asking what was going on. I shook my head, giving her a smile, but then we stopped at a some particular section that made my heart skip.
What the hell?
I tilted my head to Amma and Aunt, who were selecting an inner skirt for me in the nearby section and I heard Kamali saying,
"Idhu en kaiyil oppadaika pattu vittadhu, devi. Vaarungal jamaaipom"
(This is what slipped into my hands, Seetha. Come on, let's go, we'll join the fun)
Before I could protest, she literally dragged me into the lingerie section, and the saleswoman spotted us immediately.
"Welcome, ma'am. How can I help you?"
Her question made me nervous, and I glanced at Kamali, who patted my shoulder with a playful look and said,
"Un thozhi naan irukkiren, Seetha"
(Your friend is here with you, Seetha)
I rolled my eyes at her comment, but she continued, turning to the saleswoman,
"We need some new first-night lingerie collections"
I immediately shut my eyes, palming my face, and felt the heat rush to my cheeks. I wanted to run away from this embarrassing situation, which I'm facing for the first time in my life. But Kamali caught me, wrapping her arm around my waist, and held me in place.
Then, she said to the saleswoman,
"Agrahaaram konjo pudhusu. Neenga onnu thappaa nenachukkaadhinga. Poi ellaa new collections'uhm eduthuttu vaanga"
(She's new to all this. Don't think wrong about her. Go get all the new collections)
The saleswoman chuckled and said,
"Okay, ma'am"
Once she walked off to get the collections, Kamali glanced back at me while I palmed my face again, whining at her audacity.
This girl!!!
Soon, the saleswoman returned and placed some new collections in front of us, as Kamali had requested. She said,
"Mam, this is a new collection. The set consists of 5-6 combos for your mood and utility. You can wear it as a simple shirt and pants type of nightwear, just a nighty, a nighty set along with a robe, a mid-thigh gown, or simply a bra and thong"
"What!?"
"Wowww!"
Everything was going fine until she mentioned the last option, and both Kamali and I exclaimed in shock and surprise.
I turned and glared at Kamali, who smiled sheepishly at me and said,
"Enna maami? Un aalu dhane? Potaa enna?"
(What, maami? It's for your man, right? Then, what's the problem in wearing them?)
"Un moonji!"
(Your face!)
I spat and quickly turned to the saleswoman, saying,
"Yen'nga summa oru satin nightdress mattum kaaminga. Idhellaa venaa"
(Just give me a simple satin nightdress, please. No need for all this)
"Mch, Seetha. Please, di. Avaru paavam ithana varsham oru ponna avaru life'le vara vidaama vachirundhirukkaaru unakkaaga, ipdi avara yaemaathaadha, maami"
(Mch, Seetha. Please, di. Poor guy has kept a girl out of his life all these years just for you. Don't cheat him like this, maami)
Kamali pleaded with me, but I ignored her completely. Instead, I purchased a lace bra and a satin first-night gown that would cover below my knees.
And, to shut her mouth, I bought a lace thong.
Without saying another word to her, I turned to the saleswoman and said,
"Idhu rendum separate'ah pack pannungo"
(Pack these two separately)
Then, leaving from there, I walked away towards Amma. While Kamali told me she needed to talk to Charan about something and excused me. I just shook my head at her and continued to walk towards Amma.
As soon as I reached her, she bobbed her head at me, her eyes filled with silent questioning.
I pressed my lips together, trying to suppress the blushy smile threatening to creep onto my face, and gave her a small nod.
She smiled, patting my cheek gently, before we walked towards the men's section.
There, we saw Appa, Mama, Elango anna and him selecting shirts and pants for the reception and marriage.
As soon as I entered, his gaze shifted towards me, and he smiled. I smiled back and stood beside him as he bent down to my height and asked,
"Enna di vaanguna?"
(What did you buy?)
I blushed, avoiding his gaze, and said,
"Solla maaten"
(I won't tell)
He grabbed my elbow, pulling me slightly towards him, and asked,
"Surprise'ah enakku?"
(A surprise for me?)
But, I wriggled free from his hold and quickly diverted the topic,
"Shirt choose panneetelaa?"
(Did you choose your shirt?)
He straightened up, shaking his head with a small hum of denial,
"Mhumm. Nee yeppo varuva'nu dha yosichuttu, ellaarayum samalichuttu'nu irundhen. Un appa'uhm, en appa'uhm, Elango'uhm veruthuttaanga. Avanga enna kathuradhukulla nee seekro select paneeru, ma, thango"
(Nope. I was just waiting and thinking about when you'd come. Your dad, my dad, and Elango got annoyed. Before they start yelling at me again, please select something fast, my dear)
I giggled at his pleading and, along with the 'men gang', I began selecting a shirt for him.
"Thangai, neeyaadhu konjo seekro paaru ma ivan paduthi edukuraan"
(Sister, please look quickly. He's taking forever)
Elango Anna said.
I chuckled, nodding at him, and picked out a light blue shirt for our reception and a white silk shirt with golden elephant designs on the sleeve edges. First, I showed them to Appa, Mama, and Elango Anna, asking how they looked. They all said it was great, but Mama added,
"Avankitta kaelu kannu. Avan dhaan poda poraan"
(Ask him, dear. He's the one wearing it)
I nodded, raising my brows at my man, who simply said,
"Nee select pannadhu nalla dha ma irukkum"
(Whatever you select will be good, ma)
I grinned.
"Deii, Deii! Shoooo! Idhukku namma inga varaamaye irundhirukalaam, appas"
(Dude! Shooo! We shouldn't even need to come here for this dads)
Elango Anna exclaimed at Appa and Mama.
Appa chuckled, saying,
"Seri vidunga thambi. Ippovaadhu muduchaare'nu sandhosha padunga"
(Let it go, son. At least he finalized something now, be happy)
I smiled and glanced at him-only for him to suddenly blow me a kiss!
My eyes widened, and I quickly looked away, suppressing a blush as I turned to the salesperson and said,
"Idhu pack panneedunga. Apro idhukkooda pants and silk dhoti kaaminga. Blue shirt'ku black nallaarkum. Illai'nah?"
(Pack this. Also, show us a pant and silk dhoti to go with it. A black one for the blue shirt would be good, right?)
I turned to him with the last question, and he just nodded. I then told the salesperson to get a black pant and a white silk dhoti suited for the silk shirt I had selected.
"Sir, pant size?"
The salesperson asked him.
But he nudged me, and I looked up at him, confused. He chuckled mockingly, shook his head, and told the attendant his pants size.
And I quietly took a quick note of it.
Then blushed.
The salesperson then showed us a pair of black pants. I held the pants over his waist to check the length.
"Okay'ah?"
(Is this okay for you?)
I asked.
"Aayush, trial paathukko, pa. Apro kalyana nerathula pathala'nu solla koodaadhu"
(Aayush, try it on now. Later, don't say you didn't check it properly before the wedding)
"Weight podaama irundhaa pathaama pogaadhu, appa"
(If he don't gain weight, it won't go tight, Dad)
Elango Anna quipped.
I smiled at him, but before I could say anything, Aayush stomped on his foot, making him yelp. I frowned at them, shaking my head, while Aayush grabbed the pants and went to check the fit.
I stayed beside my grandma, who called me over to have some juice. Sipping it through a straw, I waited for him to return. Soon, Kamali joined us, and I smiled at her. She smiled back, took another bottle of juice, and sipped it while asking,
"Namma professor enga aala kaano?"
(Where's our professor?)
"Pants fit check panna poyirukkaa"
(He went to check the fit of his pants)
I said.
"Ohhhh"
She said, and we continued chatting about random things while the elders busied themselves planning the wedding in a hurry.
A few minutes later, he returned from the trial room, and Appa asked,
"Enna pa, okay dhaane?"
(What? Is it okay, son?)
He nodded and replied,
"Okay dha, mama. Correct'ah dha irukku"
(Yes, mama. It's fit)
Appa then turned to me and asked,
"Seetha, kuduthurlaa'le? Finalize panniyachu'le?"
(Seetha, shall we pack it? Have you finalized it?)
I smiled at him and said,
"Kuduthurunga, pa"
(Yes, dad)
Satisfied with my approval, Appa handed the pants and dhoti to the salesperson to pack them.
Then they asked for a simple silk dhoti and silk shirt for Appa, Mama, Elango Anna, and some of my uncles while he slipped away from them and sat beside me, exhaling and leaning back on his chair with his hands placed on his thighs.
I smiled and tilted my face to see him while sipping the juice.
He exhaled again, averting his gaze from mine. I furrowed my brows, but on hearing,
"Seetha, inga vaa"
(Seetha, come here)
I smiled, placed the bottle of juice on the chair I sat on, and rushed to Appa. I selected a shirt for him, Mama, and Elango Anna too. Then, I came back when they were selecting a dhoti for the shirts and frowned upon seeing my juice bottle missing.
"Enga pochu?"
(Where did it go?)
But then I saw him sipping the juice from the bottle, which was already half finished. Pressing my lips together, I sat on the chair and hit his thigh with my palm, hearing him yelp in fake pain.
"Yen di?"
(Why, girl?)
He asked.
I turned, raised my eyebrows at him with a smile, and said,
"Hmmm.. summa.. kudinga kudinga.. juice nallaarkaa?"
(Hmm.. nothing.. drink, drink.. is the juice tasting good?)
He smirked and said,
"Epdi nalla illaama pogum?"
(How can it not be taste good?)
I chuckled,
"Adhaane? Fraud'uh"
(Exactly? Fraud)
He smiled and handed me the juice.
I glanced at the others before taking it from him and sipping it.
He hissed, whispering,
"You're killing me, Munima"
I glared at him pretending to be angry and handed the juice back to him with a smirk. He understood and took a sip. I blushed and looked away, and we finished the juice quietly through the same straw.
But when the others came back and asked if we were ready to leave, we agreed and headed off to select the most important thing-my nuptial dollar.
Then, after purchasing everything, we headed back to my house and checked all that we had bought. I was completely held up by the ladies' gang, who were selecting matching jewels from the gold that my parents had safely kept all these years for my wedding.
Suddenly, Mama asked,
"Idhellaa yedhukku, samandhi?"
(Why all this, in-law?)
Appa replied,
"Neenga venaa'nu sonnaalum, naanga kudukanum'le, samandhi? Ellaame enga paapa kaaga dha ithana varshamaa pothi pothi vachirundhom. Ava kalyanam aagi pogumbodhu, avalukku udaiyadha, avalukku naanga kuduthu dhane aaganum?"
(Even if you say no, we have to give it, right, in-law? We've been saving all of this for so many years just for our daughter. When she gets married and leaves, shouldn't we give her what belongs to her?)
I smiled at appa and then looked at my professor, who was already gazing at me, standing beside the door of the guestroom next to the kitchen. I smiled at him, but he gestured for me to come inside the guestroom.
I widened my eyes, shook my head, denying, and averted my gaze from him to the jewels.
Ivarukku vera velaye illa.
(He has no other work)
And I heard a message pop up sound from my phone.
Understanding already who could it be, I took my phone and reduced the brightness of my phone and saw his message which was a photo of myself-one of my sexy photos from Kamali's phone where I'm wearing a red half saree with matching green blouse and skirt, with my hand grabbing the pallu near the bare waist which was visible most along with a slight view of the top of navel curve and with a golden waist chain which is my cousin Shailaja's.
We just played with her jewels before her marriage which happened last year in the girls' room taking more selfies together and also the solo sexy pictures which started as a tease for Shailaja who's one year older than me and ended up as we also posed and took images as Kamali funnily started the topic of us sexy poses collections in her phone to Shailaja.
I shut my eyes feeling utterly embarrassed and opened my eyes when the message popped up again from him saying,
Aathukaar 🌹: "Babe, you know what? I'm going to frame it in our bedroom. What say?"
I gasped audibly while reading, but quickly covered it up with a cough.
Amma handed me some water, and I took a sip before typing a reply to him.
"Please, professor. Paapa paavam illa? Indha orudhadava mannichi vitrungo 🥺"
(Please, professor. Isn't this too much for your little one? Forgive me just this once, please 🥺)
I sent the message, eagerly waiting for his reply while biting my lower lip.
Then, I saw him typing something, and a message popped up,
Aathukaar 🌹: "No use for these faces, my cutest little one 💋"
I huffed, and quickly replied,
"Vaathi, setha amaidhiyaa irungo. Unga student dhane naanu? Don't you feel bad for me? I'll be embarrassed if someone comes into our room and sees my picture 😭"
(Teacher, stop it now. I'm your student, right? Don't you feel bad for me? I'll be embarrassed if someone comes into our room and sees my picture 😭)
He first sent,
Aathukaar 🌹: "😂😂"
And then,
Aathukaar 🌹: "That could be the proudest moment for me then. Ellaarkittayum kaamikalaam, see, what a chic figure I have married!"
(That could be the proudest moment for me then. Everyone will look at me and say, 'See what a chic figure you have married!)
"Chic figure'ah?"
(Chic figure?)
Aathukaar 🌹: "Yeah, my 🍗"
"Chii 🗡️"
Aathukaar 🌹: "Enna di chi? Give me some proper respect. Or else, I won't hesitate to hang your SEXY picture on our bedroom wall"
I gritted my teeth, but before I could reply, he sent another message,
Aathukaar 🌹: "You know what, babe? I might get a natural boost to give you more pleasure just by looking at your photo if we hang it next to OUR BED!"
Then came another message that made me gasp out loud.
Aathukaar 🌹: "I'm telling you, just by looking at this photo of yours, I can give you endless orgasms with my lips.. tongue... fingers... and even... my penis. Coz, you look incredibly hot and so much tempting!"
My toes curled as I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, quickly glancing around to make sure no one was watching me from the corner of my eye before checking his next message,
Aathukaar 🌹: "Apdiye piece by piece saapadlaam. Worth'uh di nee"
(I can eat you piece by piece. You're totally worth it)
I exhaled a long-held breath through my mouth, but I got startled when I heard my maami (aunt) asking,
"Ennaachu Seetha? Yen moochu vaangeetu irukka ipdi?"
(What happened Seetha? Why is your face so serious like this?)
I quickly flipped my phone upside down on my lap, giving her an awkward smile before replying,
"Onnula maami. Just some work tension"
(Nothing, maami. Just some work tension)
"Ohh. Seri, seri"
I glanced at the others once more before picking up my phone and typing,
"Professor, this is too much"
He replied almost immediately,
Aathukaar 🌹: "And I'm saying the same, you're too much exposed and tempting"
I rolled my eyes and typed back,
"Is there any way to block your number?"
His response came swiftly,
Aathukaar 🌹: "Is there any way to eat your navel?"
A wave of heat surged through my cheeks, like wildfire, and my stomach churned at the thought of him eating my navel like that day.
I sent back,
"No way"
His reply was teasing,
Aathukaar 🌹: "The same then"
I pressed my lips together and finally asked,
"Ippo enna venum ungalukku?"
(So, what do you want now?)
He replied,
Aathukaar 🌹: "Uff. Finally. Why are you so difficult, di?"
I smiled and waited for his reply without responding. He quickly sent,
Aathukaar 🌹: "I want to give you something. Come to the guestroom"
"I don't want anything from you, Mr. Get lost!"
Aathukaar 🌹: "🤨🤨"
I giggled.
Aathukaar 🌹: "I can make you see stars, babe. Think about it again"
He sent.
I frowned and then sent,
"I don't want to. Naan raathiri vaanathula paathukuren"
(I don't want to. I'll just look at it in the night sky)
And he replied,
Aathukaar 🌹: "I can bring it right in front of your eyes.. morning, evening, afternoon... or anytime and anywhere you wish to see them. What do you think?"
I couldn't make sense of the words, but I could tell he was definitely teasing me with some adult content. So, I replied.
"Nekku venaam 🥺"
(I don't want it🥺)
And he sent,
Aathukaar 🌹: "Stop sending me this emoji. That's twisting something inside me"
I rolled my eyes and looked around before glancing at my phone again, biting my lower lip and blushing, I typed a message, asking.
"Okay. What will you do if get inside?"
And suppressed my blush getting ready for his comment, and he asked,
Aathukaar 🌹: "You want me to elaborate? 👀"
I just sent,
"Hm"
After a minute of typing, he sent,
Aathukaar 🌹: "I'll pull you closer, press you against the wall, kiss your forehead first, then your lips, neck, chest, and legs, before reaching my current favorite spot.. your navel. And then, definitely your clit, which could become my future favorite"
I felt my cheeks throbbing, and I quickly turned off my phone, trying hard to stop my face from turning deep red.
Then, I cleared my throat, and glanced at everyone, who were all talking about our wedding.
So, I quickly leaned towards my mother and said,
"Maa, nekku meeting irukku, naan andha guestroom'le irukken. Edhaavadhu'naa koopdu"
(Mom, I have a meeting. I'll be in the guestroom. Call me if you need anything)
"Apdiyaa, cheri seetha"
(Oh, okay, Seetha)
I smiled at her and stood up. On my way to the guestroom, I sent him a message,
"Enter after a few minutes"
He reacted with a thumbs up and I saw him lifting my face up. He moved aside from the guestroom and headed into the kitchen, but not before winking at me, making me smile.
I entered the guestroom and closed the door behind me without locking it. I grabbed my laptop, connected it to the charger, and sat on the bed with the laptop on my lap, resting it on the pillow.
A few minutes later, the door opened, and he stepped inside, closing it behind him with a look of disbelief.
"Enna ma, vela paathuttu irukka?"
(What's this? Why are you working now, ma)
He asked.
I glanced at him briefly before turning my focus back to the laptop screen saying,
"Work irukku, pa. Rendu vaaram work from home vaangeerken. I need to do it properly, right? Leave'uhm edukka mudiyaadhu, join panni two days dha aagudhu"
(I have work, pa. I got two weeks of work from home. I need to do it properly, right? I can't take leave just two days after joining)
He simply hummed in response and sat on the chair beside the bed, leaning back with his hands resting on his thighs, legs slightly parted.
I stole a glance at him from the corner of my eye and smiled before continuing my work.
And, he suddenly said,
"Naan kooda.. naan sonnadhu ellaam vaangeetu poga dha nee vandha'nu nenachen"
(I thought you came to take everything I told you)
I bit my lower lip and ignored answering him.
And he leaned forward, twisting his hand behind to take out his phone from his back pocket. Then, resting his forearms on his thighs, he scrolled through his phone without disturbing me.
I smiled and focused on my work while he sat there, showing me some reels and saying some profanities about adult content on Instagram like he was going to turn everything into something good.
I rolled my eyes and kept concentrating on my work.
Suddenly, he took my hand and placed it on his cheek over his beard.
I frowned and looked at him asking,
"Ennaachu?"
(What happened?)
He smiled and asked,
"Beard paaru. Eduthurtumaa romba valandhiruchu'le?"
(Look at my beard. It has grown so much, right? Should I shave it off?)
I smiled at him, pulled his beard playfully, and kissed my fingers before saying,
"Adhellaa venaa nannaa dha irukku. Trim venaa pannikonga"
(It looks good as it is. Just trim it if you want)
He hummed and leaned even closer, pulling his chair along with him towards the bed. He looked at my laptop screen as I worked silently, all while caressing my elbow, forearm, and the back of my hand. Sometimes, he held my palm while I paused from working to kiss the top of his head, and in response, he kissed my bicep, forearm and my knucles.
I smiled wide, wondering what was up with my grown-up kid today. He is clinging to me more than usual since morning, even before we went to the wedding shopping.
But I left him to his own ways without asking anything, letting him feel whatever he wanted.
In between my work, I threaded my fingers through his hair while he played with my bangles and the thread on my wrist, watching me work in silence.
After a few minutes, we heard the door open, followed by my mother's voice,
"Seetha"
We smiled at her as he sat up straight. She smiled back and said,
"Saapda vaanga da. Time aayiduthu paaru"
(Come eat, dears, it's getting late)
"Varom, ma"
(We're coming, Mom)
"Varom, aththa"
(Coming, Aunt)
She smiled at us once more before leaving the room.
He turned to me, and I met his gaze with a smile before switching my workspace to offline mode on the laptop.
Then, turning back to him, I asked,
"Polaamaa?"
(Shall we go?)
He hummed in response, lifted his hand to my neck, cupped the curve of it gently, and pulled me down, capturing my lips in a soft yet deep kiss.
Taking a deep breath, I kissed him back, holding his wrist.
After a moment, he pulled away, kissed my cheek, and was about to straighten up, releasing my neck. But I quickly grabbed his shirt collar, pulled him close, and pressed a kiss to his forehead, whispering,
"I love you"
As I pulled back.
He smiled, kissed the corner of my lips, and replied,
"Love you more"
We shared a warm smile before heading out to have dinner with everyone.
During dinner, Appa said,
"Seetha, next week fullaa leave kettuta'le?"
(Seetha, you applied for a full week of leave, right?)
I glanced at him and replied,
"Mm, aama pa. Kaettuten. Aana Kalyanam Wednesday dhane? Friday thirumba work start panneerunga'nu sonnaa"
(Yes, Dad. I applied for it. But since the wedding is on Wednesday, they asked me to resume work on Friday itself)
Amma frowned and said,
"Yendi, Kalyanam'naalum rendu naal dha leave tharuvaalaa?"
(Why, dear? They're only giving you two days off for your own wedding?)
"Ma, naan kaettu paathutten, ma. Avlodha tharaanga"
(Mom, I asked, and that's all they're giving)
Aayush spoke up,
"Vidunga, aththa. Naanum Saturday college'ku poganum. Special classes irukku first year students'ku. Ava pogattum"
(Leave it, Aunt. I also have to go to college on Saturday. There are special classes for first year students. Let her go)
I smiled at him and then glanced at Mama, who smiled at me, blinking his eyes. I smiled back, and we continued our dinner.
After finishing, Mama and Aayush sir left for their house.
That night, my team lead called me around 10 PM, apologizing for the overnight work during the first week and asking me to complete one more task. I was working under dim light, not wanting to wake up my parents and make them worry about my late night work.
I leaned back in the chair, tilting my head from left to right and closed my eyes for a few seconds to rest. But I sighed in annoyance when I heard the phone ringtone, though a smile appeared on my lips when I saw the caller ID,
"Aathukaar 🌹"
I answered the call, placing the phone on the table, beside my laptop, turning on the speaker, and spoke,
"Hello. Sollunga, professor"
(Tell me)
"Enna ma pandra? Thoongalayaa? Rendu ring'le call attend pandra?"
(What are you doing? Not sleeping? Why are you attending calls on just two rings?)
I hummed and thought of telling him about the overnight work or not but then came to a point not to tell him too to make him worry as well and said,
"Illa oru Korean drama paathuttu irukken. Thookam varla"
(No, I'm watching a Korean drama. Can't sleep)
"Ohhh"
He said.
I smiled and asked,
"Neenga thoongala?"
(Are you not sleeping?)
"Mhum. Paper correction"
He said the truth not like mine making me feel guilty and asked,
"Indha nerathulayaa?"
(At this time?)
"Ennamaa pandradhu... en pondatti enakkaaga night'uhm, pagalum vaela paakumbodhu naanu konjo nalla paakanum'le?"
(What should I do? When my wife is working late into the night for me, shouldn't I be a little better too?)
I shut my eyes, opened them, clicked my tongue and said,
"Sorry"
"Yedhukku?"
(Why?)
He asked.
"Neenga worry pannipel'nu dha solla venaa'nu nenachen"
(I thought you might worry if I tell)
"Seethaa.. naan onnu sollatumaa?"
(Seetha... shall I say something?)
Is he going to advice me now?
"Class nadatha pore'laa?"
(Are you going to conduct a class?)
"Hey, enna di?"
(Hey, what are you, girl?)
He asked in disbelief.
I giggled and said,
"Sorry sorry sollunga"
(Sorry, sorry, tell me)
"Po, mood'eh pochu"
(Go, the mood is gone)
He sulked.
"Seri, pa. Sorry sollunga"
(Okay, sorry. Say it)
I said sweetly and he said,
"I'm not just here for your happy times, but for your stressful ones too. I'm your partner, sweetheart"
I grinned at his words, and asked,
"Awww. How sweeet'uh. Okay partner, naan ini ellaame soldren. Okay'ah?"
(Awww. How sweet. Okay partner, I'll tell you everything from now on. Is that okay?)
"Paakuren"
(I'll see)
He said thoughtfully and I chuckled.
And then he asked,
"Friday office ponum'nu sollave illa enkitta?"
(You didn't tell me that you'd be going to the office on Friday, did you?)
I smiled and said,
"Marandhutten, professor. Sorry"
(I forgot, professor. Sorry)
He just hummed and I asked, grinning,
"Photos'laa epdi irundhuchu?"
(How were the photos?)
He sighed and said,
"Adhavera nyaabagam paduthaadha, ma"
(Don't remind me those, ma)
I giggled and said,
"Naanu kamali'uhm thaniyaa time spend pannaa, apdidha photos eduthuppom. Ava idea dha. Engalukku marriage aanadhum enga, enga husband kitta kaamikalaam'nu eduthom. Correct'ah neengalum paathuttel"
(When Kamali and I spent time alone, we took photos like that. It was her idea. We thought after we got married, we could show them to our husbands. And now, you happened to see them too correctly)
I chuckled at how well our plan played out.
"Seri adhellaa vidu. Adhellaa yeppo yedutha photo? En Seetha'vaa adhu?"
(Alright, leave that. When was that photo taken? Is that really you, Seetha?)
I laughed a little and said,
"Adhu en cousin oda kalyanam appo eduthadhu adhudha andha saree, apro oru trip poyirundho enga family oda, adhula kamali'uhm vandhirundhaa.. appo eduthadhu andha mid-thigh gown, apro inniku eduthadhu avlodha"
(That was taken during my cousin's wedding.. that's the saree. Then, there was a family trip where Kamali was also there-that's the mid-thigh gown. And the one from today, that's it)
"Mm.. andha waist chain vachirukiyaa innum?"
(Hmm.. did you still keep that waist chain?)
I smiled and asked,
"Yen kekurel?"
(Why do you want to know?)
"Unakku nallaarndhadhu"
(It looked good on you)
His voice went deep.
I blushed and said,
"Haan. Illa illa adhu en cousin odadhu. Avakitta dha irukkum. Enkitta'laa illa"
(Yeah, no, no. That's my cousin's. She has it, not me)
"Hm paathen paathen unga amma inniku ellaa jewels'uhm veliya edukkumbodhu, oru waist chain aadhu eduthura maataangalaa'nu paathutte irundhen. Aana onnu kooda illa"
(Hmm, I noticed. When your mom took out all the jewelry today, I was watching to see if she would take out a waist chain. But there wasn't even one)
He sulked. I chuckled softly and said,
"Amma'ku adhellaa pudikaadhu, pa. Adhaa vaangala pola"
(My mom doesn't like it. So, she won't buy it)
And he asked,
"Appo unakku pudikumaa?"
(So, do you like it?)
"Waist chain pudikkaama irukkumaa? Pudikkum romba. Kalyanathukku apro vaangikalaa'nu vittuten"
(Which girl doesn't like waist chains? I love them. I decided to buy one after my marriage)
"Oh. Ellaame kalyanathukku apro dhaanaa?"
(Oh, so everything is after your marriage then?)
"Yeah, I'm an innocent kozhadhai you know?"
(Yeah, I'm an innocent kid, you know?)
I asked giggling.
"Adhellaa anniku night varaikum dhane? Vera edhaadhu movie paathiyaa?"
(All that lasted only until that night, right? Did you watch any other movies after that?)
He asked. But I huffed and replied,
"Yen'nah naan enna movie paakura nelamailayaa irukken? Vela athana tharaa"
(Am I in the time to watch a movie? I've been working all night)
"Seri seri nee Pannu. Oru half an hour pesaama vaela paakanum. Apro pesalaam okay?"
(Okay, okay, you do it. Take half an hour to finish the work, then we can talk)
"Deal"
And we fell silent for the next half hour, finishing most of the work.
"Innum yethana papers irukku professor ungalukku? Naan 80% muduchutten"
(How many more papers do you have left, professor? I've finished 80% of my work)
I heard him yawn and speak,
"Adhu innum naraya irukku, ma. Time irukku, pretchana illa"
(There's still a lot more to do. But there's time, no pressure)
I felt goosebumps on hearing his deep-sleepy voice and asked,
"Apro yen ipdi midnight'le utkaandhu panneetu irukkel? Poi thoongunngo"
(Why are you working so late into the night then? Go sleep)
"Adhellaa pretchana illa. Nee pannu. Muduchuttu poi thoongalaam"
(There's nothing wrong in that. You do it. Once you're done, we can sleep)
I shook my head and did the work quickly and quietly so we could go to sleep soon, since he was also waiting without sleeping.
And he said in between,
"Innum 4 days dha irukku. Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday.. Wednesday Kalyanam"
(Just 4 more days. Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday... Wedding on Wednesday)
I blushed and asked,
"So?"
He asked,
"So'va?"
(So, what?)
I said,
"Aama, pa. So what?"
(Yes, so what?)
He sulked and asked,
"Enna di revenge'ah?"
(What's this, revenge?)
I laughed and finished the work at last and sighed in relief.
"Ennaachu?"
(What happened?)
I heard him ask and I smiled, taking my phone in my hand from the table and said,
"Muduchutten"
(I finished it)
"Finally"
"Finally"
I repeated and he chuckled deeply in a sleepy tone, making me feel guilty and asked,
"Poi thoongalaam'le? Yen ipdi night muluchuttu irukkel?"
(Why can't you just go and sleep? Why are you staying up so late?)
"Pretchana illa ma. Vidu. Nalaiku office poganumaa illa work from home'ah?"
(It's not a problem, dear. Leave it. Do you have to go to the office tomorrow, or is it work from home?)
"Veetla dha"
(At home)
I replied.
He hummed, and then I yawned while standing up from the chair and arranged the laptop on the table, closing it.
Then I settled on the bed while he asked,
"Seri, toonguriyaa? Naanu poren"
(Okay, will you sleep now? I'll go too)
I smiled, pulled up the duvet to my chest, and said,
"I love you"
I heard him take a deep breath and say,
"I miss you"
I frowned with a smile and asked,
"Yen'nah naan onnu kekkatumaa?"
(Dear, shall I ask you something?)
He hummed, saying,
"Kaelu"
(Ask)
"Illa.. naan kekurane'nu thappa nenachukkaadhel"
(No... Don't take me wrong)
I heard him click his tongue and say,
"Enna'nu kaelu, ma. Thappaa enna nenaika poren?"
(Just ask, dear. Why would I take it wrong?)
I smiled and asked,
"Amma've miss pandrelaa?"
(Do you miss Amma?)
I whispered hesitantly, and I heard him go silent for a few minutes. I let him be as well, giving him the space to answer when he felt like it.
After a few more moments, I heard his deep voice whisper,
"Romba"
(A lot)
And there... my eyes welled up with tears.
But I composed myself and asked,
"Ennaachu dhideernu? Solleerkalaa'le?"
(What happened suddenly? You didn't say anything before?)
And he said,
"Mch.. nee un amma kooda yedho shopping panna pona'le? Appo dha appa kitta peseetu irundhen. Appo appa dha sonnaaru, amma irundhirundhaa happy'ah irundhiruppaa nu. Enakku appove oru maadhiri irundhuchu. But nee pakkathula irundha naala okay'ah irundhen. Apro veetukku vandha apro nee ellaarkoodayum irundhiyaa, appovum oru maadhiri dha irundhuchu. Adhaa unna guestroom'ku koopten. Summa peseetu irukkalaam'nu. Aana unakku vela irundhuchu. Adhaa ippo thookam varla paper correction panlaa'nu eduthen, adhuvum mudila adhaa unakku call pannen"
(Mch... You went shopping with your mom, right? That time, I was talking to Appa. He mentioned that if Amma were here, she would have been happy. That's when I started feeling a bit off. But since you were beside me, I was okay. After coming home, you were with everyone, and even then, I felt the same way. That's why I called you to the guest room, just to sit and talk. But you had work. Then, when I couldn't sleep, I took up paper correction, but I couldn't concentrate on that either... so I called you)
I gulped, hearing his whispered explanation, and sniffed as I said,
"Thaniyaa irukken, di, vaa'nu sonnaa vara maatenaa? Yen neenga ipdi trick'ah kooptaa dha varuvenaa? Naan oru loosu.. ungala indha time'le thaniyaa vitrukka koodaadhu"
(If you were feeling alone, couldn't you just ask me to come? Do you have to trick me into it? I'm such a fool... I shouldn't have left you alone at a time like this)
I felt like crying, realizing I had left my grown-up kid yearning for his mother's love all alone.
"Hey, seri, vidu. Enakku ippo apdiye full bottle beer adikanum pola irukku. Aana unnaala mudila"
(Hey, okay, leave it. I feel like downing a full bottle of beer right now. But I just can't because of you)
He said, making me widen my eyes.
"Professor! Amma nyaabagam vandhaa beer adipping'laa? Amma vandhu adikka poraa. Amaidhiyaa paduthu thoongungo"
(Professor! You think of Amma, and your response is to drink beer? If Amma were here, she'd beat you up. Just lie down quietly and sleep)
I warned.
He just hummed, making me sigh.
Wanting to change his mood, I asked,
"Professor?"
"Aahn"
His deep voice made me blush and I asked,
"Anniku namma college'le irukkumbodhu nekku onnu solli kuduthinga'le?"
(That day, when we were in college, you taught me something, right?)
"Ennadhu?"
(What?)
"Adhudha, Professor"
(That one, Professor)
"Adhudha'naa ennadhu ma?"
(What do you mean by that one, ma?)
"Aiyooo. Self pleasure pathi solli kuduthinga'le??"
(Aiyoo. You taught me about self pleasure, remember?)
"Aama, adhukku enna ippo?"
(Yeah, so what about it now?)
He asked harshly.
I twisted my lips at his response and whispered,
"Onnula ponga"
(Nothing, just go away)
"Oi, enna kochukuttiyaa?"
(Hey, are you mad at me?)
He asked.
I smiled and said,
"Illa, pa"
(No, dear)
Coz, I know he's just teasing me.
"Seri, morning pesalaamaa? Enakku thooko varudhu"
(Okay then, shall we talk in the morning? I'm feeling sleepy)
He said.
I frowned at his thoughtful yet somewhat distant tone and said,
"Professor..."
He hummed, but before I could ask anything, he said,
"Bye ma. Good night. Love you. Nalaiku pesalaam. Enakku nalla thooko varudhu"
(Bye, dear. Good night. Love you. Let's talk tomorrow. I'm feeling really sleepy)
His words were dragging, his breaths uneven, and I could hear faint movements in the background, like he was walking. But I shook my head and simply hummed back, replying,
"Good night. Love you too"
He ended the call with,
"Vachidren"
(Bye)
I stared at my phone screen thoughtfully, but then shrugged it off thinking,
Maybe he was really sleepy. Maybe he was just going to fetch some water for him. Or maybe he didn't want to keep talking and make me even more exhausted without resting.
Placing my phone on the charger, I pulled the duvet over myself, two thoughts circling in my mind-we're getting married in four days, and before that, I want to take Aththai's blessings with him for sure.
And then, I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
Aayush
I didn't see any of the vulnerable sides of her after that trip incident. But that night, I saw her eyes filled with disgust toward herself-for having crossed paths with those creatures, Maya and Sanvik.
I was mad at her for sharing our private moments with strangers. I could understand her-she was just an innocent soul who trusted too easily-but that didn't change the fact that it infuriated me.
I'm the kind of person who would get mad even if she share something from our private moments with her parents or friends, yet she had shared them with complete strangers.
That was enough to set me off.
I left her alone in our hotel room, my mind buzzing with anger, and dialed Shivadith, the DCP. I told him about those two bitches-Maya and Sanvik. He was just as mad as I was and asked me to send their pictures, but I didn't have any. Instead, I told him to come to my house and pick up that woman, Maya. And as for Sanvik, I assured him I would handle it when I met him face-to-face. Shivadith agreed but reminded me to take care of Seetha.
That was when reality hit me.
My anger, my frustration-it all felt insignificant compared to what she was going through. I had been so caught up in my own rage that I had forget about her inner turmoil. Tossing my madness into the dustbin where it belonged, I went back to her. When I told her not to feel guilty over the indirect harassment she had faced, she broke down, hugging me tight.
And in that moment, all that mattered was comforting her.
Eventually, our mood lightened as we watched 365 Days. I was doing my best to keep myself in check, to not let my thoughts spiral into something I would regret later. But with her wrapped in a bathrobe, her bare skin beneath my fingers as I caressed them-God, it was enough to drive me insane.
She was death-a beautiful, irresistible death. Just for me.
That was the only thought in my mind as I held her close.
Then..
Her rolling-back eyes, the way she moaned my name, the insides of her little warm core with my fingers-damn, I just wanted to devour her whole.
But I pulled myself back when Appa called, asking me to come home early in the morning. Declining the call, I stepped out to the hotel's library, browsing through the shelves until I found a few adult books. Something to broaden her knowledge. When I returned, I handed them to her, and she accepted them with curiosity.
That night, we slept in each other's embrace, wrapped in the warmth of our cocoon while the rain poured over the chilly hills of Ooty.
The next day was a whirlwind. It started with a smile, turned into rage, and ended with pure bliss. Thanks to those two creatures, our wedding-originally set for three months later-was now happening within a week.
I'm going to marry my little one soon. My student. My woman. My Seetha. Within a week. Wow!!
And as for Maya, she had been arrested, and Sanvik had completely disappeared for the past four days. But the real shocker came for me this morning when we went shopping for our wedding with our family and friends.
Kamali had handed me her phone to check out Seetha's reception dress. But my fingers slipped, and I accidentally swiped-only to be met with her pictures.
Her sexy pictures.
Damn. My girl was a complete masterpiece-something I could devour every single second.
But I had to wait... just four more days.
That excitement, however, was short-lived. During shopping, Appa turned to me with a wistful smile and said,
"Unga amma irundhirundhaa, romba happy'ah irundhiruppaa, Aayush. But it's okay. She will always bless you both. Avaloda blessings yeppavum ungalukku kedaikkum. But.. I.. I miss her, you know"
(If your Amma were here, she would've been the happiest, Aayush. But it's okay. She will always bless you both. You both will have her blessings. But.. I.. I miss her, you know"
I swallowed hard, trying to find the right words, but nothing came.
"Paa"
I called softly, but I couldn't bring myself to say more. The weight of that moment sank deep, leaving me at a loss. He patted my shoulder gently and walked off to pick out a wedding dress for me, but the ache inside me only grew.
I kept glancing at the way Seetha had left, wanting to be by her side as soon as possible, needing her presence to breathe again.
And when she finally came to me, I acted normal, but she saw right through me. She always did. When she asked at that night, I let my feelings spill out, holding back my own tears.
As I stood on my balcony still talking to her over the phone, my eyes instinctively drifted towards her house. That's when I saw it-a dark silhouette of a man standing near her house. Every nerve in my body went on high alert.
Without wasting a second, I quickly excused myself, pretending to be sleepy, and ended the call. Dialing my father's number, I told him to lock the door from inside, assuring him I had something important to handle. Before he could ask what is that, I declined the call and rushed downstairs.
Stealthily, I approached the figure from behind, grabbed the person's collar, and yanked them away from her house. With one swift motion, I slammed them against the wall beside her home. My jaw clenched as my eyes met his glare.
Sai Krishna.
My teeth ground together as I spat,
"What the fuck are you doing here?"
But instead of an answer, he merely shoved me back, his hands pressing against my chest.
He then adjusted his disheveled shirt with irritating casualness, shrugging down his rolled-up denim sleeves-only to roll them back up again.
And that... only fueled my fury.
I grabbed his collar again, pulling him up as I demanded,
"Don't push me any further, Mr... What the hell are you doing in front of our house?"
He smirked, locking his gaze with mine as he responded,
"Ungalukku epdi sir theriyaama irukkum?"
(How can you not know this, sir?)
He tilted his head slightly, eyes challenging.
"En aththa ponnukum, enakkum adutha vaaram kalyanam. Adhaa..."
(My aunt's daughter and I are getting married next week. So..)
He let those words hang in the air before adding,
"Avala paathu peseetu polaa'nu vandhen"
(I just came to see her and talk to her)
My blood boiled, fists tightened.
"Adhukkulla neenga paathuttinga"
(But, you noticed me so quickly)
He smirked even wider before asking,
"Enna sir unga student'ku protection'ah?"
(What, sir? Are you your student's bodyguard?)
And without hesitation, I grabbed his collar with both hands tightly and yelled,
"Kalyanam'ah?"
(Marriage?)
My grip tightened as I barked,
"Yaaru yaara kalyanam pandradhu?"
(Who the hell is marrying whom?)
I shoved him back a little and warned through gritted teeth,
"Venaa Sai Krishna, ingerndhu poidu. Don't push me to lose my temper"
(No, Sai Krishna, just leave this place. Don't push me to lose my temper)
But he didn't back down. Instead, he straightened up, lifted his chin, and challenged,
"Pogalanaa?"
(What if I don't leave?)
I stared at him.
He took a step closer and hissed,
"Pogalanaa enna pannuva?"
(What will you do if I don't leave?)
His voice turned dangerously low.
"Oru vaartha.. neeyum, Seetha'uhm love pandringa'nu en mama kitta sonnaa enna nadakkum'nu theriyumaa?"
(If I tell my uncle that you and Seetha are in love, do you know what will happen?)
I swallowed hard.
His smirk deepened as he looked at my hands still clutching his collar.
"Sonnaa. Kalyanam nikkum"
(If I tell him, the wedding will be stopped)
His tone was almost triumphant.
"Naan nallavan dha'nu theriyum."
(They'll know that I'm the good man)
He took a breath and delivered the final blow,
"Apro.. enakkum, en Seetha'ku kalyanam nadakkum"
(And then, my Seetha and I will get married)
That was it.
The moment "En Seetha" (My Seetha) left his lips, I lost every bit of restraint.
I raised my fist, aiming straight for his face, but he was quick-grabbing my wrist before my knuckles could connect.
His eyes darkened as he glared at me.
"Aniyaayamaa en Seetha've enkitta irundhu pirichittuye da"
(You unfairly snatched my Seetha away from me)
I shoved him back roughly and spat,
"Loosu maadhiri pesaadha!"
(Don't talk like a madman!)
My voice was sharp, cutting.
"Yaaru Seetha've yaaru kitta irundhu yaaru pirikardhu?"
(Who is taking Seetha away from whom?)
He scoffed, straightening his shirt and spat back,
"En Seetha've dha da"
(My Seetha)
His jaw clenched.
"En Seetha've aniyaayamaa enkitta irundhu pirichitta'le?"
(You unfairly took my Seetha away from me, didn't you?)
He stepped closer again, voice filled with a twisted sort of longing,
"Naan avala chinna vayasula irundhu evlo love pandren'nu unakku theriyumaa?"
(Do you even know that I've loved her since we were kids?)
I scratched the side of my forehead, getting annoyed.
He then let out a bitter chuckle.
"Aahn... unakkenga theriya pogudhu?"
(How would you ever understand that?)
His gaze flickered over me in disdain before he sneered,
"College'ku vara ponnungala un body physique kaamchu mayakunavan dhane nee? Avalum adhula vekkame illaama vilundhirukkaa"
(You're the guy who shows off his physique to seduce the girls at college, right? And she fell for it without any shame as well)
My fists clenched hard.
I lunged forward, grabbing his collar once again, ready to punch him straight across the face. But,
"Professor"
His body stiffened at the voice, and I froze too.
Seetha.
I turned my head over his shoulder to see her standing inside the main gate of her house, looking directly at me before shifting her gaze towards Sai Krishna for a brief moment. Then, she quickly checked around to see if anyone else was watching before unlatching the gate and rushing towards us.
She stopped beside us and turned to him with a firm look.
"Sai Krishna. Enna peseetu irukkel?"
(Sai Krishna, what are you talking about?)
Her tone was sharp but controlled.
"Naan avara love pandradhu unma dha"
(Yes, I do love him)
She held her head high as she continued,
"Aana adhu yedhukkaaga'nlaa ungakitta sollanum'nu nekku avasiyam illa. You can take it as whatever you want.. seduction or anything else"
(But I don't have to explain that to you. You can take it as whatever you want.. seduction or anything else)
Her voice grew even firmer,
"Aana avara edhaadhu thappaa pesuninga'naa naan summa paathuttu amaidhiyaa irukka maaten"
(But if you dare speak anything against him wrong, I won't just stand by silently)
A smirk tugged at the corner of my lips.
She had just shut him down, effortlessly.
She didn't have to explain how she fell for me or why she chose me-she simply declared it in a way that was both respectful about our relationship and threatening at the same time.
And that?
That was my Seetha.
But Sai Krishna raked his fingers through his curly hair with a smirking chuckle and turned completely towards her, asking,
"Innum nokku nambikka irukkaa Seetha ivan mela? Sorry, ivaru mela"
(Do you still have faith in him, Seetha? Sorry, this man?)
His lips curled into a mocking grin.
"He's just that old man"
I gulped, but Seetha glared at him fiercely before snapping like a fiery cat,
"Just... just don't ever call him like that again!"
Her tone was sharp, her eyes blazing.
"Innorukkaa idhey words un vaaila irundhu vandhaa naan enna pannuven'nu enakke theriyaadhu"
(If those same words come out of your mouth again, I don't even know what I'll do to you)
She raised her index finger at him in warning.
Sai Krishna's smirk wavered for a second, but he quickly clenched his fists and stepped towards her, challenging,
"Enna di, enna pannuva? Aahn?"
(What, huh? What will you do?)
Before he could get any closer, I grabbed her wrist and pulled her to my side.
Then, I pointed my index finger at him and growled,
"You have no right to call her that or in any other way"
My jaw clenched.
"To you, she's just Seetha. But soon, she'll be Seetha Aayush Kumar"
I took a step forward, my voice deadly as I added,
"Got that or not? So don't mess with her, or I'll make sure you regret it"
But, Sai Krishna only chuckled again, his eyes flicking between the two of us before turning to Seetha.
"Oru professor? Seriously?"
(A professor? Seriously?)
His tone dripped with disbelief and mockery.
"An old man like him? What did he show to impress you?"
His eyes narrowed as his smirk returned.
"Adhepdi di college'le padikkumbodhey?"
(How did this happen while you were studying in college?)
Then his smirk turned vicious.
"What made you get seduced? Or what did he see in you that made him fall for you?"
I gritted my teeth.
"Avan staffroom cabin'eh nalla use pannikittinga pola?"
(Did you both make good use of his staffroom cabin?)
I saw red.
"You. Bastard!"
My hands curled into tight fists as I strode towards him, shoving Seetha aside.
I punched him-hard.
The first hit landed straight on his face, snapping his head back.
Before he could recover, I punch him again, sending him crashing to the ground.
In disgust, I hissed,
"Unnalaa annike ava trial paathuttu irukkumbodhu ulla varattumaa'nu kettadhukku naan kontrukanu da, you filthy-mouthed asshole!"
(I should've just killed you that day when you asked her if you could come inside while she was in the trial room, you filthy-mouthed asshole!)
I kicked him in the stomach, and he groaned in pain.
Seetha tried to stop me, but I shoved her hand off and kicked him again, harder this time.
Then, as I raised my foot to land one final, punishing kick between his legs,
"Seetha"
I froze.
I lifted my face to see mama and aththai standing there, witnessing the scene before them.
Mama's face was nothing but emotionless.
"Appa"
Seetha murmured, walking over to him. While I straightened myself.
And she was about to ask,
"Appa enn.."
(Dad, I...)
But his next question made both of us gasp.
"Neeyum, un professor'uhm love panninglaa?"
(You and your professor were in love?)
I turned to Seetha, and she gulped before whispering,
"Appa..."
"Kettadhukku mattum badhil sollu"
(Just answer what I asked)
He said, staring at her.
She gulped and lowered her gaze.
And her mother stepped in, trying to cool him down, calling him,
"Yen'nah..."
(Dear...)
But he cut her off.
"Naan unkitta dha Seetha kettutu irukken"
(I am asking you Seetha)
"Avanga epdi mama solvaanga?"
(How will she answer, uncle?)
I turned to find Sai Krishna standing up, pain etched on his face, but still smirking at Seetha before saying,
"Enkitta kelunga, naan solren"
(Ask me, I'll tell you)
I gritted my teeth and took a step forward to shut him up, but I stopped upon hearing,
"Sollu"
(Tell me)
From her father.
Seriously?
I looked at him, dejected.
After all that Sai Krishna had done, he was still ready to listen to him-but not his own daughter? Not even his own wife?
And that Sai Krishna opened his mouth, saying,
"Mama, ivanga rendu perum nekkum, Seetha'ku kalyanam nichiyam pandradhukku munnaadi irundhey love pandraa. Ungalukku theriyaama. Ava naraya ungakitta poi solleerkaa. College'le course kaaga poren'nu solleetu. Night 8 mani varaikum ivankooda orey restaurant'le accounts vaela part time'ah panneetu irundhaa ivan kooda. Aana.."
(Mama, both of them were in love even before you and my family decided for Seetha and me to get married. You didn't know that. She lied to you about everything, saying she was going to college for the course and working part-time in the restaurant's accounts section with him. But..)
But before he could continue, I yelled,
"ENOUGH!"
He fell silent, and I heard Seetha's sobs. I turned, walked over to him, grabbed his collar, and shoved him back. He stumbled but managed to stand, glaring at me.
I glared back at him, deadly, and said,
"Olungu mariyaadhayaa inga irundhu poidu.. don't make me kill you, Sai Krishna. Get the fuck off or just shut your fucking mouth!"
(Leave this place respectfully... don't make me kill you, Sai Krishna. Get the fuck off or just shut your fucking mouth!)
I gritted through my words, giving him a deadly glare, and he stayed silent, glaring back at me.
Giving him a last look, I walked over to Seetha and her family, rubbing the side of my neck in frustration.
I stood before her father and said,
"Avan sonnadhu ellaam unma dha. Naanu Seetha'uhm... neenga avalukku ivan kooda kalyanam yerpaadu pandradhukku munnaadi irundhey love pandro dha"
(Everything he said is true. Seetha and I... before you even arranged her marriage with him, we were already in love)
Her father shot a look at Seetha but quickly averted his gaze back to me when I continued,
"Infact innum unmaiyaa sollanum'na, andha time enna vida Seetha dha enna romba love pannaa"
(In fact, to tell you the complete truth, at that time, Seetha loved me way more than I did)
I looked at her, and she looked back at me, shocked, gulping when her father shot her another sharp look.
"Avala anniku police kooptu ponaangalae? Anniku dha naan avalukku propose pannen. We were in love, and we still are. Seetha oda amma'ku idhu theriyum"
(That day, when she was called by the police? That was the day I proposed to her. We were in love, and we still are. Seetha's mother knows about this)
He looked dejected while I turned to Seetha's mother, who looked just as shocked at me.
She then turned to her husband and started to say something,
"Yen'nah naan sol.."
(Dear, let me exp...)
"Aana... avanga yen ungakitta sollala'nu theriyumaa?"
(But do you know why they didn't tell you?)
I asked, cutting her off.
He gave me a sharp stare, so I continued,
"Yen'na adhukkaana avasiyam illa"
(Because there was no need to)
He stayed silent for a moment before asking,
"Enkitta unmaiya soldradhukku avasiyam illayaa? Appo ellaarum saendhu enna yaemaatheerkinga'le?"
(So, telling me the truth wasn't necessary? Then aren't you all cheating me?)
I shook my head and said,
"Illave illa, sir. Naano, illa Seetha'oh... yaarume en appa've vandhu ungakitta ponnu kaelunga'nu sollala. Ellaame thaana nadandhadhu"
(Not at all, sir. Neither I nor Seetha ever asked my father to come and ask for her hand. Everything just happened on its own)
"Enga appa ungakitta vandhu Seetha've ponnu kaettadhukku kaaranam naanga love pandro'ngradhukkaaga mattum illa. Infact naan appo avalukku propose kooda pannala"
(When my father came to ask for Seetha's hand, it wasn't just because we were in love. In fact, I hadn't even proposed to her at that time)
He frowned at me slightly, his expression hinting at shock, and I continued,
"Aana yen theriyumaa kettaaru?"
(But do you know why he asked for her?)
I paused for a second before saying,
"Unga ponnu vaazhka alinjira koodaadhu'nu dha"
(Because he didn't want your daughter's life to be ruined)
He frowned at me,
"En ponnu vaazhka naan paatha paiyan kooda nadandhirundhaa alinjirukkum'nu soldriyaa?"
(Are you saying that my daughter's life would have been ruined if she had married the guy I chose?)
"Aama. Avan enna arthathula anniku Seetha kitta trial room'le irukkumbodhu apdi sonnaan'laa enakku theriyaadhu. Adha pathi pesavum virumbala. Ippodhaiku"
(Yes. I don't know in what sense he spoke those words to Seetha that day when she was inside the trial room. And honestly, I don't even want to talk about it. At least, not right now)
"Enakku ippo onne onnu dha sollanum.. neenga avakitta samadham'ah nu kekkaama avalukku kalyanam nichiyam pannadhu neenga panna periya thappu. Adha neenga yeppovaadhu purunjuppinga'nu naan namburen"
(But there's one thing I have to say right now. Without asking her if she was happy, you fixed her marriage, and that was a big mistake you ever did. I just hope that one day you'll realize it)
"Naan en ponnuku yedhu nalladhu kettadhu'nu nalla yosichu dha mudiveduppen. Ithana varshamaa avala naan dha paathukuren. Enakku theriyaadhaa avalukku enna pudikkum pudikaadhu'nu?"
(I always make decisions after carefully thinking about what is good or bad for my daughter. I have been taking care of her for so many years. Don't I know what she likes and dislikes?)
"Adhu dha.. adhu dha neenga pandra thappey. Also unmaiya sollanum'naa ungalukku unga ponnu'ku enna pudikkum, pudikaadhu'nu theriyaadhu, sir. Avalukku yedhu nalladhu, kettadhu nu mattum dha paakuringa. Aana avalukku idhu puduchirukkaa, pudikalayaa'nu oru naalum kekka maatenguringa"
(That's the thing... that's exactly the mistake you're making. Also, to be honest, sir, you don't actually know what your daughter likes or dislikes. You only focus on what is good or bad for her. But you never once ask whether she likes it or not)
I looked at her, and her tears had already reached her cheeks. I averted my gaze back to her father and said,
"Kalyanam panni vaazha poradhu neenga illa, sir. Seetha"
(It's not you who is going to live this marriage, sir. It's Seetha)
"Ava yaara kalyanam pannikanum'nu ava dha mudivu pannanu. Neenga illa"
(She should decide whom she wants to marry. You shouldn't)
Then, taking a deep breath I asked,
"Neenga yen ipdi irukkinga'nu enakku suthama purila, sir. Apdi enna ungalukku male ego?"
(I really don't understand why you are like this, sir. Is it just male ego?)
"Professor!"
Seetha called my name in warning.
I sighed, realizing I had spoken too much, and said,
"Sorry, Seetha. Sorry, sir. Sorry, ma'am. Naan venum'ne ipdilaa pesala"
(Sorry, Seetha. Sorry, sir. Sorry, ma'am. I didn't mean to say all this)
"Aana ippo kooda paarunga sir.. oruthan unga ponna pathi soldren'nu soldraan.. aana neenga avana nambi sollu'nu soldringale thavara.. en ponnu yedhuvum thappu panneerka maataa'nu neenga nenaikala. Ava side enna irukku'nu neenga kekkala"
(But just look at the situation, sir... some guy is standing here saying things about your daughter, and instead of dismissing him, you're asking him to speak. But you never once thought, 'My daughter wouldn't do anything wrong.' You didn't even ask what her side of the story was)
He gulped.
"Yen.. unga wife solla vandhadha kooda enna'nu kekkala sir neenga"
(Even when your wife tried to say something, you didn't listen, sir)
I sighed, shook my head, and continued,
"Enna vidunga.. ippo vandhavan unga life'le.. ivanga rendu perum ungalaye nambi irukkavanga.. avangala oru dhadavayaadhu neenga nambunga'nu dha soldren"
(Forget about me. Right now, these two are standing here trusting you. I'm just asking you to trust them at least once)
"Trust them. Give them space. Avanga avanga life'le decision edukka ungalukku space kudukura maadhiri dha avangalukku ungakitta pesavo, illa edhaadhu explain pannavo space kudunga'nu soldren"
(Just like how you expect space to make your own decisions in their life, I'm only asking you to give them space to talk to you and explain themselves as well)
"Naan anniku ring podumbodhu ungakitta ellaame solleerlaa'nu dha sir irundhen. Enna manichirunga enakku situation amaiyala"
(Sir, the day I put that ring on her, I thought I'd tell you everything. But please forgive me... the situation just didn't allow it)
I sighed, trying to compose myself before continuing.
"Aana onne onnu soldren.. ovvoru dhadavayum naanga ungala pathi pesumbodhu.. Seetha enkitta soldra orey vishyam.. enakku enga appa've yemaathura maadhiri thonudhu...Aanaa avaru enna purunjuppaaru'ngra ennoda nambikka adhavida adhigam'nu dha, sir"
(But I'll tell you one thing... every single time we talk about you, there's only one thing Seetha tells me-she feels like she's cheating you. But even then, she holds onto the belief that one day, you'll understand her)
I paused, glancing at Seetha, who was already staring at her father with teary eyes.
"Andha nambikkaya odachuraadhinga'nu kooda naan sollala. Adhu unga viruppam"
(I'm not even asking you to break that trust. That's your wish)
"Just trust her. Avalukku ava life'le decision edukka mudiyum'nu nambunga. Avala nambunga sir. Please"
(Just trust her. Believe that she can make decisions for her own life. Trust her, sir. Please)
I then stepped forward, my voice softer but firm.
"Orey oru dhadava avalukku konjam ava life'le decision edukka space kudunga. Give her one last chance"
(Just this once... give her some space to make her own decision. Give her one last chance)
I reached out and gently grasped his hands, my grip tightening as I spoke the next words with conviction.
"And.."
I swallowed, my voice thick with emotion as I said,
"And I promise, sir. Naan nichiyamaa soldren. Ava andha chance'eh nalla use pannikiraalo illayo... Aana naan nalla use pannipen"
(And I swear, sir, whether she makes use of this chance or not... I definitely will)
"Ungala vida avalukku ennaala paasam kaamikka mudiyumaa, safe'aah paathukka mudiyumaa'nu therila"
(I don't know if I can love her more than you do, if I can keep her safer than you do..}
"But I'll try. And naan nirubichu kaamippen sir..."
(But I will try. And I will prove it to you, sir...)
I took a deep breath and looked him straight in the eyes.
"Ava choice aana naan.. avala best'ah paathukuren'nu neenga oru naal purunjukittu enkittayo, illa Seetha kittayo solluvinga"
(Me, being her choice, one day, you will realize and tell either me or Seetha that I took care of her in the best way possible)
"Andha maadhiri avala naan paathuppen"
(That's exactly how I will take care of her)
I looked down for a second before my voice dropped to a whisper, almost breaking,
"She is my only hope after my mother. Please don't take her away from me"
My fingers curled slightly around his, desperate, pleading,
"Enn.. ennaala mudiyaadhu"
(I can't.. I can't bear it)
There.. I heard Seetha burst into sobs as she clutched his elbow with both hands, her voice trembling as she pleaded,
"Appa, please pa... Naan venum'ne ungakitta sollaama illa pa. Ellaame adhuvaa nadandhadhu dha, pa. Naan.."
(Appa, please... I never intended to hide anything from you. Everything just happened that way. I.. )
Before she could finish, he cut her off with a steady, firm voice,
"Adhuvaa nadakkaama irundhadhu'naa enna Seetha panneerpa?"
(If things hadn't happened that way, what would you have done, Seetha?)
Both of us froze, our eyes locked on him. Even Seetha's mother looked startled.
He didn't stop there. His voice, though calm, carried a weight that made my stomach tighten.
"Naan anniku avanga appa unna kekkumbodhu othukkaama, naan paatha paiyana dha nee kalyanam pannanum'nu solleerndhaa, enna paapa panneerpa?"
(If I had refused when his father came to ask for your hand, and told you to marry the guy I chose for you, what would you have done?)
I swallowed hard. Seetha turned to look at me, her eyes filled with unshed tears.
For a moment, silence stretched between us, heavy and unbreakable. We shared a look, understanding flashing between us without words.
And then, with quiet conviction, we both turned our gaze back to him and answered in unison,
"Neenga engala yaethukura varaikum wait panneerpo, sir/appa"
(We would have waited until you accepted us, sir/appa)
He looked at both of us silently, his expression unreadable. Seetha's mother finally broke the silence, her voice laced with quiet emotion.
"Yen'nah... Namma ponnu dhaane'nah? Nammalae paathaa kooda, thambi maadhiri oru paiyan namma ponnu'ku kedachirukkaadhu'nu neengalae enkitta pala dhadava solleerkinga'le? Apro enna'nah?"
(Dear... She's our daughter, right? Even you have told me many times that a boy like him could only be a perfect match for our daughter, haven't you? Then what happened now?)
We all three stared at him, waiting for his response, but before he could say anything, an all-too-familiar voice rang out, laced with bitterness.
"Adhepdi aththa summa vida mudiyum? Mama've yaemaathi kalyanam pannika poraanga. Idhula ivan appa ivanga kooda kootan.."
(How can you let this slide, Aththa? They're deceiving Mama and getting married behind his back! And on top of that, his father is involved with th..)
Before Sai Krishna could continue his rant, Seetha's father calmly interrupted, turning to his wife.
"Anandhi. Andha phone'eh eduthuttu vaa... Namma ponnu kitta thappaa pesunavan'laa Namma munnaadi ninnu peseetu irukkaan. Police complaint panni vittaa dha amaidhiyaa iruppaan pola"
(Anandhi, bring the phone... The guy who spoke wrongly with our daughter is standing right in front of us and still running his mouth. Maybe filing a police complaint will finally shut him up)
I bit my lip, suppressing a smirk, and turned to find Sai Krishna glaring at her father, fuming.
"Enna? Enna moraikira? Indha nerathula nee enna pandra inga? Enga'aathukku munnaadi enna da pandra?"
(What? Why are glaring at me? What are you even doing here at this hour? Standing outside our house like this?)
Sai Krishna hesitated but then turned towards me, seemingly searching for an excuse. I gave him an innocent look and then turned to Seetha's father, saying,
"Mam... sorry, sir... Avanukkum, Seetha'ku adutha vaaram kalyanam'ahm. Avan kalyanam pannika pora ponna paaka vandhen'nu sonnaan sir enkitta"
(Mam... sorry, sir... He told me that his wedding with Seetha is next week and that he came to see the girl he's going to marry, sir)
Her father's face darkened as he turned sharply to Sai Krishna, his voice cold as he yelled,
"Yaaru ponna yaara kalyanam pandradhu? Thirumba enga'aathukku pakkathula unna paathen... tholachiruven. Podaa ingerndhu!"
(Who is marrying whom? If I see you near my house again, I swear I'll make you disappear. Get lost!)
I turned just in time to catch Sai Krishna glaring at me before he averted his gaze, trying to say something,
"Mama, naan.. "
(Mama, I.. )
But before he could say another word, her father shut him down with a firm tone,
"Poriyaa illayaa?"
(Are you leaving or not?)
Defeated, Sai Krishna had no choice but to turn around and leave, still fuming. I smirked, watching him go, but when I turned back, I found Seetha's father already staring at me.
Instantly, I wiped the smirk off my face and put on a neutral expression.
He sighed, shaking his head before speaking in a firm yet softened voice,
"Veetukku ponga, maapla. Naalu naal'le kalyanatha vachuttu raathiri neram ipdi veliya suthaadhinga"
(Go home, maapla. Wedding is in just a few days. Don't roam around late at night like this)
I don't know what got into me at that moment, but before I could stop myself, I stepped forward and wrapped my arms around his shoulders, pulling him into a tight hug.
"Thanks, mama"
I mumbled against his shoulder, feeling an overwhelming sense of gratitude.
I felt him chuckle before he patted my back warmly, and from behind, I could hear Seetha and her mother chuckling softly as well.
I thought that would be the final moment of this roller-coaster day.
But after returning home-receiving a warm hug from Seetha, one last embrace from Mama, and a smile from Aththa-I stepped inside, only to be stopped in my tracks.
Appa stood there, arms crossed over his chest, his expression a mix of authority and silent demand. The 'Dare to explain where you disappeared' look was unmistakable.
I smiled sheepishly, scratching the back of my head, and told him everything-every single thing that had happened. I watched as his expression softened, and to my surprise, a proud smile spread across his face. He patted my shoulder firmly, his voice warm as he said,
"I'm proud of you, my son"
I wasn't sure what exactly made him proud of me, but hearing those words from him filled my heart. Without thinking twice, I stepped forward and hugged him, just like I had hugged Mama.
Pressing a quick kiss to his cheek, I pulled back, but his thoughtful expression made me frown. He then smiled softly at me and said,
"Aayush, come.."
He held my wrist and made me sit on the couch.
I frowned, looking at him as he sat beside me and said,
"Aayush"
"Enna, pa?"
(What, dad?)
I asked, looking at him. He looked back at me and asked,
"Naan ungalukku indha kalyanatha seekro nadatha nenachadhu yedhukkaaga'nu nenaikira?"
(What do you think is the reason I wanted to conduct this wedding so quickly?)
I stared at him as he continued,
"Nee yeppo Maya ungalukulla sanda yerpadutha try pandraa'nu sonniyo, appove enakku purunjadhu, Aayush. Anniku yedhukkaaga avalum, ava amma'uhm namma veetukku vandhu avlo demand panni kathunaanga'nu"
(The moment you said Maya was trying to create conflicts between you two, I understood it, Aayush. That day itself, I realized why she and her mother came to our house, making so many demands and causing a scene)
I sighed, and he continued,
"Seetha sonnaa, ava college student illayaame? Avaloda company CEO vaam?"
(Seetha told me she's not just a college student, right? She's a company CEO?)
"Aama, pa. But ippo avanga appa dha paathukuraaru. Iva arrest aanadhu naala"
(Yes, dad. But now her father is handling everything because of her police arrest)
"Ohhh"
We fell silent, and then he said,
"Thirumba yaarum ungalukulla vandhura koodaadhu'nu dha. Ivlo avasaramaa kalyanam panna vendiyadhaa irukku, Aayush. So.."
(It's to make sure no one comes between you two again. That's why this wedding have to happen quickly, Aayush. So..)
He placed his hand on my shoulder, and I looked at him as he smiled at me and said,
"Take care of my daughter-in-law"
I smiled back and said,
"She's already my wife, pa. She's my world. Naan unkitta anniku sonnadhu dha innikum soldren.. avala naan vitra maaten, pa. Ava illaama ennaala oru second kooda irukka mudiyaadhu. Trust me.."
(She's already my wife, dad. She's my world. What I told you that day, I'll tell you again today.. I will never let her go. I can't live even for a second without her. Trust me...)
I held his hands between mine, just like I did with her father, and said,
"I'll take care of her like she's my precious"
He smiled, patted my cheek, and said,
"I'm so proud"
I smiled and asked,
"Inniku naan unga kooda thoongattumaa?"
(Can I sleep with you tonight?)
He chuckled, ruffling my hair affectionately, saying,
"Naane kekanum nu nenachen da. Vaa vaa... polaam"
(I was just about to ask you the same. Come on, let's go)
With a soft giggle, I followed him inside. That night, I curled up beside him, feeling the kind of warmth that no words could capture.
But before closing my eyes, I turned toward my mother's portrait on the wall-the same one that hung in my room-sent her a flying kiss, and whispered a quiet,
"Good night, Amma"
And just like that, a long day came to an end.
This day became one of the most special and memorable days of my life. Every night before this, half of my sleep would be lost in endless thoughts-How do I tell everything to her father? How do I make him understand us? What if he never does?
But tonight was different.
Tonight, there was no worry, no restless thoughts-only relief.
For the first time in a long while, I slept peacefully, wrapped in the comforting warmth of my father's arms as he gently patted my shoulder, lulling me into sleep.
Thanks, ma. For this most unforgettable day.
