Seetha

After getting ready in my navy blue churidar, paired with mint green pants and a matching green dupatta with a gold border pinned on my right shoulder, I quickly gathered my hair, pinning the sides to the center.

As I hurried out, putting on my earrings along the way, I called out to my mother.

"Ammaa.. naan poraptutten"

(I'm ready)

"Setha iru Seetha, naan tea pottu tharen"

(Wait a minute, I'll bring you a tea)

Amma replied from the kitchen, while I packed my things into my bag.

"Illa ma, time aayiduthu. Naan dha saapten'le? kelambanum ma seekro. Wait panneetu iruppaa"

(No ma, it's already late. Didn't I eat? I need to leave soon. They're waiting for me)

"Aaru wait pannuvaa?"

(Who's waiting for you?)

I stiffened slightly at her questions but then replied calmly,

"Jiji, ma"

"Ohh, seri iru tea mattum kuduchuttu poyiru"

(Ohh, okay, have your tea and leave then)

I sighed and moved towards the kitchen, saying,

"Illa ma, nekku neram aayiduthu, naan kelamburen"

(No ma, it's late. I should go)

I entered the kitchen and wrapped my arms around her shoulders, planting a kiss on her cheek. She smiled warmly, cupping one of my cheeks with her hand and kissed the other in return.

"Paathu poitu varanum. Modha mora appa vidraar, avaa manasu konaadha padi nadandhakanum. Purunjadho?"

(Be careful and come back safely. This is the first time appa is letting you go out on your own, so make sure you don't do anything that upsets him. Do you understand?)

She said on a serious note. I smiled slightly, nodded at her, then unwrapped my arms and turned to walk away, saying,

"Seri ma. Naan poitu varen bye"

(Okay, ma. I'm leaving)

I left the kitchen with Amma following close behind. I gulped on my parents' trust on me, grabbed my phone with a blank face, slipped my purse into my bag, and slung it over my shoulder, ready to bid her a bye.

But before I could, she gently grabbed my shoulder from behind and pinned a flower in my hair. Smiling, I stood still as she carefully pinned it, and waited for her to finish.

And when I turned around to see her,

"Paaru, ippodha en ponnu azhagaa, latchanamaa irukkaa. Paathu poitu vaa di thango"

( Look, now you look so beautiful and auspicious. Now, go and come back safely, dear)

She pinched my cheek after warding off the evil eye, cracking her knuckles. I giggled, kissed her cheek once more, and told her to inform my father about my departure when he returned from work before heading out.

Taking the direct bus at 3, I arrived at college by 4:30. Standing at the bus stop, I searched around for him but didn't spot him anywhere. So, I reached for my phone to call him, but paused when I saw a military green bike with large wheels and a star symbol on the fuel tank pull up proudly in front of me.

A man..

Maybe, my man in a green T-shirt and beige pants gripped the handlebars, his red-shoed foot pressed against the ground, and his face hid by a black helmet.

As I admired his broad arms and the locket resting against his shirt on the centre of his chest, a blush crept across my cheeks.

Without a word, I walked around the bike and sat behind him, my legs on either side and hands resting on his shoulders. With a roar, the bike came to life, and we sped off toward the restaurant in silence.

After we arrived, he removed his helmet, balancing the bike with his feet firmly on the ground as I got down and stood beside him. He gestured for me to head inside through his eyes, and bobbing his chin.

I nodded slightly and made my way towards the manager's room. The manager welcomed me warmly, and we exchanged a handshake. A minute later, my professor entered, greeted the manager with a handshake, and took his seat beside me.

As soon as he sat down beside me, the men began their conversation. I glanced over at him, but he cleared his throat and said,

"That's okay, sir"

"Alright, come. I'll show you the rooms for your work"

Aayush sir smiled, nodding his head, and turned to find me already looking at him. The manager had left the room, but I didn't realize it yet as I was busy staring at him.

Then, when my gaze fell on the corner of his lips as they curled into a smile, and just then, I felt a soft tickle on the back of my palm. I wriggled and giggled slightly before looking up at him, hearing his soft chuckle.

"Polaam vaa"

(Come, we should leave)

He said, flashing his dimpled smile, then stood up and left the room. And, I frowned, holding the hand he had tickled close to my heart, and looked around to find the room empty.

With a sigh, I slapped my forehead and chuckled to myself before sliding my bag onto my shoulder and rushing out to find Aayush sir and Shekar sir waiting for me.

I glanced at Aayush sir, who smiled at me, but I blushed and quickly lowered my head. Then, we followed Mr. Shekhar until we stopped in front of the stairs near a glass door.

"So, Ms. Seetha, your room is on the first floor, and Mr. Aayush, this is yours"

He said, gesturing toward the door beside the stairs.

"Have a nice day, both of you. I've informed all the workers about your arrival. You can introduce yourselves and settle in"

Mr. Shekhar said before shaking hands with us and leaving.

Aayush sir watched him with a smile, then turned to find me pouting at him.

He smiled, took a deep breath, and casually shoved his hands into his pockets, giving me an intent, questioning look with that damn smirk.

"Naan poren"

(I'm going)

I said, softly expecting him to say something. But,

"Po"

(Go)

He shrugged his shoulders. I saw him in disbelief.

"Ungalukku kavalaye illa?"

(Don't you feel sad?)

I whined at him, but he just gave me a smile. Huffing, I tugged the strap of my bag off my shoulder and stomped up the stairs, each step landing with a thud as I murmured under my breath,

He's becoming too much of a tease, nowadays. Huff.

Why is he behaving like this?

Opening the cabin, I entered the room, and was greeted by a lean boy in a white shirt and brown pants, and a girl beside him wearing a green crop top that reached below her thighs, paired with blue jeans.

They both smiled at me warmly, and I returned a nervous smile.

"Hello. I'm Sakthi"

The lean boy rubbed his hands clean and stretched one out for a handshake, offering me a wide, shy smile. I frowned slightly, glancing at him and then at the girl beside him.

"I'm Monisha. Nice to meet you"

She said in a cheerful voice.

I couldn't help but smile at her chirpy tone, finding it matching with mine.

"Hi"

I greeted her.

"Appo enakku 'hi' illayaa?"

(So, am I not getting a 'hi' from you?)

Sakthi asked with a pouty lips. I giggled at him.

"Adhaa waste aageete'le? Poi utkaaru po"

(Aren't you getting wasted? Go away and sit there)

Monisha playfully hit his shoulder, and Sakthi shot her a glare. I chuckled at them .

"Hello, Sakthi. By the way, I'm Seetha"

I greeted him, too.

"Seetha mahalaxmi?"

Sakthi asked, grinning at me. I raised my brows and shook my head with a smile.

"No, no. Just Seetha."

Sakthi opened his mouth to say something, but,

"Leave him, Seetha. Avan apdidha konjo, nut'uh kalanda case. Neenga vaanga"

(Leave him, Seetha. He's such a loose nutcase. Come with me)

Monisha grabbed my wrist and pulled me over to sit in the rolling chair, taking a seat beside me in another one. Meanwhile, Sakthi walked around us and settled down on the other side of me.

"Yen inga chair illayaa?"

(Why isn't there a chair here?)

Monisha asked him, annoyed.

"Indha chair dha enakku comfortable'aah irukku"

(This chair is comfortable for me)

He said, glancing at me, grinning.

"Unna'laa thiruthave mudiyaadhu"

(No one can change you)

Monisha chided at him. And I stopped them, saying,

"Guys, guys... okay, cool down. Shall we get to work? I'm just here for a part time job after all"

"Ada, adhellaa apro paathukalaa'nga"

(Come on, we will look at that later)

Sakthi smiled sweetly at me. I smiled back and asked,

"Sakthi.. shall I say you something?"

"Sollunga sollunga"

(Yeah, yeah)

He corrected his collar, waiting for me to continue, eagerly.

"I'm already in love with someone"

I declared. He jerked his body in shock, holding his chest with his hand, dramatically. I giggled, covering my mouth with my palms, while Monisha burst out laughing.

"Pochaa pochaa? Unakku idhu thevayaa da Sakthi?"

(Is it really necessary for you, Sakthi?)

Monisha laughed loudly, but we fell silent as the door opened, revealing the manager, Mr. Shekar Krishna. We stood up to greet him, and he returned the gesture, introducing me to them. He assigned us some work and told us to divide it among ourselves.

As we began our tasks, I quickly bonded with them, feeling like we were all friends sharing the same mental disorder. Sakthi apologized to me if I felt he had gone overboard, and Monisha teased him about it. The work pressure couldn't even touch us.

I think.

Then, at exactly 8:30 PM, my phone pinged with a message from him,

🏡 : "Get packed. I'm down."

Smiling, I packed my things, said my byes, and hurried down the stairs to find him leaning against the wall.

His right hand held his phone while his left hand raked through his hair. One of his knees bent slightly forward, while the other leg stretched out, pressing his foot against the ground.

Azhagu, paiyan.

Sorry.

Azhagu, professor !!

(Handsome, man. Sorry. Handsome, professor)

I stood on the step above him and cleared my throat. He looked up from his phone, a smile widening in his lips as he saw me.

"Polaamaa?"

(Shall we go?)

He asked.

"Yesss"

I said, nodding in response, and with smiles on our faces, we walked side by side. I covered my face with my dupatta and clutched the sweater around my body tightly with both hands to shield myself from the chill, stealing glances at him from the corner of my eyes.

He shoved his phone into the back pocket of his pants and glanced at me for a brief moment before looking away.

We eventually stopped at the bus stop, with him still seated on the bike while I stood beside him, huffing and puffing to gain his attention.

At last, he turned his gaze towards me and asked,

"Enna ma?"

(What?)

But I didn't want to leave my great reputation behind so easily, so I shook my head, saying,

"Onnula"

(Nothing)

And I pulled the string of my bag with a pout.

"Seetha"

I met his gaze.

"Enna? sollu"

(Tell me what)

"Pinna enna? Ipdi thani thani room'aah pottu vachirukkaanga rendu perukkum?"

(Then what? Why do they have to keep both of us in separate rooms like this?)

I gestured between us with my hands, but he just stared at me blankly. I gulped at the intensity but after a moment, he took a deep breath and turned away, asking,

"Adhukku enna ippo?"

(So what?)

I gasped.

"Adhukku enna ippovaa? Naan unga kooda naraya time spend pannalaam nu nenachen theriyumo?"

(So what? I thought that we could spend a lot of time together? Did you know that?)

I asked, and his eyes widened in surprise, a mix of shock and amusement dancing in his expression.

"Ohh, appo time spend panna dha indha part time job drama'laa? Am I right?"

(Oh, so you're saying that spending time together is a main part of this part time job drama? Am I right?)

He asked me, raising his eyebrows. I gulped and gave him an innocent smile, blinking my eyes.

"Dreams and time rendume oruthar oda vaazhkai'le mukkiyam, illayaa?"

(Dreams and time are both important in a person's life, right?)

He chuckled.

"Adhu seri"

(That's fine)

He shook his head and turned away, his long fingers drumming lightly on top of the helmet resting on the petrol tank. I smiled, watching him, but when he suddenly turned to look directly into my eyes, I quickly averted my gaze.

Then, leaning forward, I tapped my finger on my chin, pretending to wait for the bus, and asked,

"Bus yeppo varum?"

(When will the bus arrive?)

When I turned slowly, I caught him staring back at me with a playful smirk.

Flustered, I gave a sheepish smile and straightened up, preparing to explain myself, but before I could say a word, his smirk deepened, and asked,

"Yedhukku yeppo paaru apdi paapa enna?"

(Why are you always looking at me like that?)

I gulped, feeling nervous and embarrassed by his sudden question. But, after clearing my throat, I managed to say,

"Epdi? Naan'laa epdiyum ungala paakalaye"

(How? I wasn't even looking at you like that)

I stammered, trying to hide my embarrassment while avoiding his gaze. When I glanced back at him, he was smiling, biting his lip before turning away.

Cutie pie !!

I quickly averted my gaze again when he caught me looking.

Avaa azhaga porandhadhu en thappaa !?

(Isn't it a mistake of mine that he was born so handsome?)

I sighed but jolted slightly when he asked,

"Work epdi pochu?"

(How was your work?)

His voice felt warm against the cold air around us as we were surrounded by mist.

"Haan nannaa pochu, professor. Nekku rendu friends kedachirukkaanga"

(Yeah, it went well, professor. I made two friends)

I chirped, and he saw me with an amused smile.

"Friends'aah? Adhukullayaa?"

(Friends? So soon?)

"Aama. Rendu perum semma comedy. Apdiye enna maadhiri. Semmayaa irukku"

(Yes. Both of them are really funny. Just like me. It was great)

I beamed, and he laughed before asking,

"Unna neeye comedy'nu sollippiyaa ma?"

(You're saying that you're funny by yourself ?)

I narrowed my brows, but his single laugh made me feel as if I had lost my own senses. When he realized I was staring at him, he stopped laughing. I gulped and asked,

"Mm.. idhula enna irukku? Ellaarume ovvaruthavanga munnaadiyo, illa thanakku thaano oru comedy piece dha, professor. No one is born perfect, and no one dies perfect either"

(Mm.. what's wrong with that? Everyone is their own little comedy piece, whether in front of others or just by themselves, professor. No one is born perfect, and no one dies perfect either)

He smiled warmly at me, and just then, we heard the sound of a bus horn. We both turned to see a bus with the nameplate 'Kinnakorai' approaching us.

He then turned back to me, got down from the bike, and moved to stand beside me. I looked up at him, smiling, while he looked down, returning the smile, and said,

"Paathu po. Reach aageetu text Pannu. Yaaraadhu kooptaanga'nu nadula endhiruchu poidaadha. Bus stop theriyu'le?"

(Be careful. Text me once you reach. Don't get off in between if someone calls you. You know the bus stop, right?)

Though he was asking me as if I were a kid, it felt good. His care, or whatever it was, felt so comforting, like a warm, safe blanket wrapped around me in this cool climate.

"Naan onnu papa illai, professor. Neengalum paathu ponga. Reach aageetu text pannunga"

(I'm not a kid, professor. You be careful too. Text me once you reach as well)

I said, smiling.

"Seri. Irundhaalum climate nallaarku'nu thoongeeraadha ma"

(Alright. But still, don't sleep off just because the weather feels nice)

"Illa illa. Naan full volume'le kuthu song kaettutu poven. Thookam varaadhu"

(No, no. I'll play folk songs at full volume. Sleep won't come)

He laughed for the second time that day when I grinned at him, and I couldn't help but smile at the sight of his beautiful laughter.

"Seri paathu po"

(Okay, be careful)

"Okay bye"

I climbed into the bus as it stopped at the bus stop, and since there were fewer people, I took a seat by the window. And turned to look at him after placing my bag on my lap, and he smiled at me. I returned the smile and waved my hand.

"Tata"

He chuckled and waved back slightly as the bus started to move. I maintained eye contact with him, smiling until he faded from my view.

After reaching home, I smiled at my parents and went to refresh myself with hot bath before joining them for dinner. I shared the experiences which I got from Jiji from the Naan Mudhalvan chairperson position.

I felt a twinge of guilt for hiding the things from them, but I thought it's best to wait for my professor's conclusion before addressing it to them together or may be, handling it on my own.

Once dinner was done, Appa went to sleep in the bedroom, leaving Amma and me in the living room watching TV.

One part of me, the 'Amma's girl' , urged me to tell her the truth, while the other part, the 'professor's girl' , made me hold back my thoughts.

While I was in my own thoughts, Amma suddenly turned to me and asked,

"Nalaiku leave poda mudiyaadhaa, Seetha?"

(Will you be able to take leave tomorrow, Seetha?)

"Le..leave'aah? Yen.. yen ma?"

(Leave? Why, mom?)

I shuddered by her sudden question.

"Nalaiku Thiru Karthigai dii, marandhuttiyaa?"

(Tomorrow is Thiru Karthigai, did you forget?)

I quickly glanced at the month calendar, my eyes widening in realization. Turning back to her, I offered a nervous smile and said,

"Amma. Pona second naalae leave kaettaa kudukka maataa, ma"

(Mom, they won't give me leave just at the second day of work)

She sighed, and patted my cheek, with a smile.

"Mmm.. seri appo kaalama kovil'ku poitu vandhudlaam. Seriyaa?"

(Mmm.. alright, then let's go to the temple in the morning itself and come back. okay?)

"Mmm seri ma"

(Okay)

"Saree katteendu ponu di. Pooja irukku. Yendha saree kattalaam nu mudivu panni vachukko"

(Get ready in a saree, dear. There's a pooja. Decide which saree you're going to wear)

"Seri ma. Naan paakuren"

(Okay ma. I'll see)

I smiled, and she smiled back before raising herself from the couch.

"Seri, naan poi thoonguren. Neeyum seekro thoongu. Saree iron pannipa'le?"

(Mmm okay, I'm going to sleep now. You sleep soon too. Did you get the saree ironed?)

"Naan pannipen ma. Nee thoongu"

(I'll do it, ma. You go and sleep)

"Seri da"

(Okay, dear)

She ruffled my hair before heading into her room.

I let out a long-held breath but jumped when I heard my phone ringing from my room. I rushed in, grabbed my phone from the bag, and saw the caller ID, Kamali. Then, I answered the call.

"Diiiii. Naan onnu marandhaee poiten dii"

(I forgot one important thing, gurlll)

As soon as I picked it up, she started whining. I frowned, confused.

"Yen ennaachu?"

(Why? What happened?)

"Un aalu kitta naan no due'le sign'eh vaangala di"

(I still haven't gotten a no-due sign from your man, girl)

I gasped.

"Adipaavi. Ivlo naal enna panneetu irundha? Innum rendu naal'le exam marandhuttiyaa?"

(You fool! What have you been doing all this time? Did you forget the exam is in just two days?)

"Ayooo adha vera nyaabaga paduthaadha, maami. Ippo naan enna seiven? Nalaiku avaru varuvaaraa college'ku?"

(Oh no, don't remind me of that, please! What can I do now? Will he come to college tomorrow?)

"Adhellaa varuvaa. Avaa leave'laa poda maataa Kamali. Good boy"

(He'll definitely come. He doesn't take leaves, Kamali. Good boy)

I grinned, proudly.

"Adhu seri. Unga aala pathi nannaa dha maami therinju vachirukkel"

(That's fine. You seem to know a lot about your man, maami)

She teased me. I smirked.

"Haan... ungala vida'laa illanga Kamali. Liplock adichava dhane di nee?"

(Yeah... No one compares to you, Ms. Kamali. Didn't you the one who had your lip lock?)

I teased back.

"Eruma maadu !"

(You buffalo)

She yelled at me, and I couldn't help but laugh as I opened the cupboard, balancing my phone between my shoulder and ear while going through my sarees.

"Seri ippo enna? Nalaiku college ku poriyaa?"

(Okay. Now what? Are you going to the college tomorrow)

"Poriyaa illa. Porom"

(Not just me. It's us)

I widened my eyes.

"Mch, Kamali, podi. Nekku tired'ahh irukku. Vaelaiku vera poren"

(Hey, Kamali, I'm really tired. I'm going to work already)

I huffed.

"Enna? puduchu dhane pona? Orey naal'le tired'aah?"

(What? You're already tired? Just for one day?)

"Aiyo adha vera yen kekura? Ennayum avarayum vera vera room'le pottaanga Kamali"

(Aiyo, you don't ask me about that. They put me and him in separate rooms, Kamali)

I complained while pulling out two sarees from the cupboard, a pastel green one and a netted soft yellow one, and I kept them out on the bed.

"Apro enna cook'ayum, comali'ayum orey room'layaa poduvaanga?"

(Then, will they put both the cook and the comedian in the same room?)

She asked me while laughing at her own joke. I glared as if she were right in front of me and said,

"Nokku naan comali'aah? Adivaanga pora Kamali nee enkitta"

(Do you think I'm a comedian? I'm going to smack you nicely, Kamali!)

Her laughter faded, and she chuckled softly, saying,

"Seri seri sorry maami. Nalaiku enkooda college'ku vaa di please"

(Okay, okay, I'm sorry, maami. Please come to college with me tomorrow)

"Aiyo naan kovil'ku ponum, Kamali. Amma ippodha sonnaanga. Kaalaila ready'aah iru kovil ku porom nu"

(Aiyo, I have to go to the temple, Kamali. Mom just told me that I should be ready in the morning to go to the temple)

"Ohh. Appo nee kovil'ku poitu vandhu enkooda join paanniko"

(Ohh. So you go to the temple and then join me after?)

"Kamalii"

I sighed in disbelief and sat on the bed.

"Hey, please, maami. Enakkaaga seiya maatiyaa? Oruvela Aayush sir'eh paakalaa'nu sonnaa varuviyo?"

(Hey, please, can't you do it for me? Otherwise, will you come if Aayush sir happens to come by?)

She is getting possessive, even now.

"Seri, seri varen. Romba pannaadha"

(Okay okay. I'll come. Don't start your drama now)

"Happaa.. thanks di maami. Naanu venaa unakku company kudukka saree katteetu varen. Okay aah?"

(Finally... thanks, maami. If you want, I can give you company, wearing a saree)

There I got another problem.

"Aiyoo aama'le? Namma college'le saree allow pannuvaa'laa?"

(Aiyo. Do they allow sarees in our college?)

I asked her, even though I knew they wouldn't allow sarees for students in our college unless we got permission from the principal and our department head.

"Aama, adhu vera irukku'le? Vinitha ma'am kitta keppomaa?"

(Yeah. Should we ask, Vinitha ma'am?)

She asked, and I hummed, glancing at the wall clock, which showed it was already 10 PM.

"Mm. Aana time 10 aayidudhe"

(Mm. But it's already 10)

"Message pottu vidu, maami. Call panna venaa. Online'le irundhaa reply pannuvaanga"

(Send a message instead, maami. No need to call. She'll reply if she is online)

I hummed again and opened WhatsApp to see his message first, which was,

🏡: "Reached?"

"Aiyayo !"

I shouted forgetting that Kamali was still on the call with me.

"Ennaachu di?"

(What's wrong?)

She asked me.

"Haan onnula onnula"

(Nothing nothing)

I shook my head and replied to his message first,

"Sorry, sorry, sorry! I forgot! I've reached home. Please message me when you get to yours. Sorry, professor!"

I sent the message, but it only showed a single tick, indicating he was offline. So, I then checked Vinitha mam's chat, typed out my message, and sent it. She saw it right away and replied, instructing me to send an email to her, the Principal, and the HOD. I said, okay and wished her a good night, and then,

"Kamali. Ma'am mail poda sonnaa"

(Kamali, she said to send the email)

I said to her.

"Apdiyaa? Appo nee pottu enakku anuppu"

(Is it? Then, you send the mail and forward the copy to me)

I was frustrated.

Seriously?

"Adichiruven di. Nekku inga naraya vela irukku. Saree choose pannanu, blouse check pannanu, ornaments thaedanu, poojai'ku ellaam correct'aah irukkaa'nu check pannanu, saree iron panni vakkanum. Innum narayaaaaa.. So, olunga nee type panni anuppu, naan copy paste panni send pannikiren"

(I've got a lot to do, girl. I need to choose the saree, check the blouse, find the ornaments, make sure everything is correct for the pooja, and iron the saree. So much to do! You just type it out well, and I'll copy and paste to send it)

"Seri seri pandren vai"

(Okay okay. I'll do it. Bye)

I hummed, ended the call, and took the pastel green saree's blouse. Locking my room door, I removed my top to check the fit of the blouse, only to gasp when I realized it was too tight.

"Avlo saapudranaa?"

(Am I eating more?)

I tried to pull the blouse over my arm, but it got stuck in the middle. Glaring at the offending garment, I tossed it onto the bed and grabbed the red blouse for the yellow saree. I slipped it on, and it fit perfectly.

"Haan idhu blouse'uh"

(This is the blouse)

I smiled at the red one and glared at the green blouse.

"Idhuvum blouse'uh. Aala paaru"

(This is the blouse as well)

I twisted my lips. After putting my top back on, I started ironing the saree, carefully pinning it to ensure it would drape nicely for tomorrow. Once satisfied, I stepped out to check on the pooja items and the agal vilakku (mud lamps) that my sweet amma had already prepared.

With a smile, I returned to my room, locking the door behind me as I heard my phone vibrate. I answered it with a smile, and heard,

"Hmm.. poitu oru message kooda illa reached'nu"

(You didn't even send a single message after reaching home)

Acho !

I pouted and said,

"Naan marandhutten, sir. Manichirungo"

(I forgot, sir. Forgive me)

I heard his chuckle from the other end, which made me smile, and I asked,

"Seri kelambeete'laa?"

(Okay. Are you ready to leave?)

"Yeah. Bike edukka poren"

(Yeah. I'm going to take my bike)

I glanced at the wall clock, which showed it was already 12.

"Pei vara neram"

(This is the time for ghosts)

I whispered, trying to scare him. But,

"Ohoo. Seri reached dhane nee?"

(Ohoo. Did you reach, right?)

I smiled.

"Vandhutten, sir. Neenga veetukku poitu message pannungo. Late aagida poradhu"

(I've reached, sir. Message once you get home. It's getting late)

"Seri poitu message pandren. Nee thoongu. Don't wait for me. Bye"

(Okay, I'll message you. You sleep. Don't wait for me. Bye)

"Bye. Good night. Sweet dreams"

While I was waiting for him to end the call, he suddenly asked,

"Ippo naan sollanumaa?"

(Should I tell you now?)

I frowned, and asked,

"Ennadhu?

(What?)

"You shouldn't be appearing in my dreams'nu?"

(Like... you shouldn't be appearing in my dreams)

His warm bass voice made me blush, and I plopped myself on the bed, lying on my back, and said,

"Adhellaa venaa. Neenga sonnaalum naan varuven"

(No need. Even if you say it, I'll still show up)

He chuckled, softly.

"Adhu seri. Good night, ma"

(That's fine)

"Bye"

With a faint "bye" , he disconnected the call. I placed the saree and blouse on the dressing table, then grabbed the brown box filled with jewels. Then, matched the pieces with the saree, selecting a chunky necklace and semi-large jhumkas, along with glass bangles.

After arranging everything on the saree, I fell back onto my bed under the duvet. Switching off the lights, I glanced at my phone one last time after sending the mail and drifted off to sleep within a minute.

Aayush

That night, as I passed her house, I honked my bike horn like a teenager, but she didn't show up. Disappointed, I rode home, parked my bike, and took off my shoes, placing them in the rack. I headed to my room, emptied my pockets, and organized my belongings before heading for a hot bath.

After settling on my bed, I quickly typed a message to her, letting her know I had reached home safely. As I had dinner at the restaurant earlier, thanks to Shekar uncle's insistence, and soon fell asleep under my warm duvet.

The next day, I wore a light-colored, striped formal shirt with vertical stripes, paired with brown pants. I arrived at college, where the first year students were hurrying up for their semester exams. After completing our hall duty, Elango and I went to the canteen for lunch.

I couldn't help but feel a sense of eagerness for the evening, anticipating the moment I'd get to see her again which made me scratch the back of my neck, my hand lingering there for a moment before I let it drop, maintaining a straight face as Elango turned toward me and asked,

"Enna da? Meals'eh sollataa?"

(What? Should I order meals for us?)

"Mmm.. sollu, machaa"

(Okay)

I stood behind him and the crowd was more and was squeezing me over him.

Singhing, I stood huffing and puffing and telling him make the order soon. But he just glared at me. I smiled sheepishly at him and turned away giving him a stealthy look and that's when my eyes fell on the 'yellow saree'.

In shock and completely mesmerized, my eyes swept over her from head to toe. Not in default. And, I was especially drawn to her deep black hair cascading down to her waist. My gaze instinctively shifted away from the glimpses of skin partially covered by her saree, and I cursed myself, biting my lips to suppress a smile.

Inga enna pandraa !?

(What is she doing here!?)

I thought, but, I quickly wiped the smile off my face and returned to a neutral face again when Elango turned to look at me weirdly.

"Enna da? iluchuttu irundha? naan paathadhum maatheete?"

(What? Aren't you smiling now? Then why did you change when I turned to you?)

He arched an eyebrow at me, looking somewhat intimidating. I gulped and forced a wide smile, saying,

"Indha edathula ninnu, naan yen da ilikka poren?"

(Standing here, why would I smile?)

I said, gesturing towards the crowd around us, then grabbed his nape and pushed him towards the food collection area.

We sat a few rows diagonally from her seat, where she was now laughing with her friends, gently pushing away the strands of hair from her cheek behind her ear with her little fingers.

"Sambar pottuko da"

(Get some, sambar, dude)

I averted my gaze to Elango, nodded, grabbed the bowl of sambar, and poured it over the meal. Mixing it with my fingers, I took the first morsel, but my eyes instinctively drifted back to her. They landed on her slim wrists, adorned with glass bangles, while her jhumkas danced in sync with her laughter as she took a spoonful of something red from Kamali, perfectly matching her pink lips.

I coughed, clearly not expecting my thoughts to drift into something inappropriate like this. When the hell did I start noticing the colours on her?

Elango passed me the water, telling me to eat slowly. I nodded, sipped the water, and placed the tumbler back on the table.

Wondering,

Does my little student really have all these hidden beauties, shielded from every evil eye?

But now, I can't seem to be the one who looks away from her anymore.

Elango was saying something to me, but I couldn't avert my gaze from her, and my eager eyes wandered over her waist like a pervert.

Pervert? Fuck... Just halt your eyes from wandering over her, Aayush.

I cursed myself, but jolted slightly when I heard,

"Deii mental !"

I snapped back from watching her when Elango shouted on my face.

"Yen da?"

(Why, man?)

I asked, annoyed, because I was just about to glance at her toes.

Keduthu vittaan !

(He ruined it)

"Enna da paakura apdi? Naan kooptutte irukken.."

(What are you looking at? I was just calling you..)

He chided at me. I rolled my eyes at him and clicked my tongue, saying,

"Mch, adhellaa onnula, enna sollu"

(Mch, nothing. Tell me what?)

"Mudiyaadhu poda"

(I won't say. Go away)

I gritted my teeth.

"Mudiyaati poda venna"

(I don't want to hear anything either, Mr. butter)

I huffed, and we ate our lunch in silence. Stealing quick glances at her between eating, I finished my meal before turning to Elango, who was deliberately eating slowly, clearly trying to irritate me more.

Smiling, I leaned back in my chair comfortably, took out my phone, and placed it on my lap. Then, I typed a quick message to her,

"Oi"

After a minute, I saw the blue tick indicating she had read it. I lifted my eyelashes to see her beaming at her phone, and she replied,

Seetha(stud.) : "Hello, professor"

"Enga irukka?"

(Where are you?)

Seetha(stud.) : "Naan solla maatanae. Neengale kandu pudinga paakalaa 😁"

(I won't say it. You have to find out yourself 😁)

The first thought that came into my mind after reading her message was,

Paaka epdi irukku, pesuradhu epdi irukku.

(See... how her looks, and how she speaks)

Ufff !!

Did I really want to align my eyes, mind, heart, and everything else to concentrate only on the message?

"Kandu pudikkardhaa?"

(Find out?)

"Aama kandu pudinga"

(Yes, find out)

"Seri paakalaa, inniku edhaadhu function'aah?"

(Okay, let's see. Is there any function today?)

Then I glanced over at her when I received no replies, only to see her getting up from her seat with a grumpy face.

She made her way out of the canteen, heading toward the wash area at the backside of the canteen. I excused myself from Elango and followed her, careful to remain unnoticed.

As I approached, I saw her washing her hands, deep in conversation with Kamali, who soon left, leaving Seetha alone. Then, when she continued washing her hands hurriedly with a smile on her face, I couldn't help but smirk as I moved closer.

I washed my hands beside her at the tap and leaned down to her height, whispering,

"Caught you !"

She jumped, looking up at me in surprise, her mouth opening as if to ask me something. But, I kept a slight distance between our faces, glancing around before winking at her.

Her knitted brows relaxed, but her mouth fell open in shock, her eyes wide.

Getting satisfied, I turned and headed back into the canteen, raking my fingers through my hair and lowering my head to hide my smile.

You're getting more playful, Aayush.

And for the first time, it's over a girl-my student.

But it wasn't in my control when she was just...

Breathtaking !!

Will see where this tease leads us.
