Chapter 20 💜🦋

Hello 😀

Sorry for the delay

Vaanga vaanga story kulla polaa 🚴🏻‍♀️💜🦋

♡♡

As I reached the college, a wave of nervousness washed over me. My final year students were about to present their final project reviews, and I hoped they would handle it well, without any issues. Adding to my unease was the fact that my muscles were sore and pumped from an intense workout this morning. The veins on my arms were visible, and my shirt felt tighter than usual.

Despite Elango's suggestion to wear loose clothes, I rolled up my sleeves and headed to the classroom, determined to emphasize the importance of the review. But the women in the class had other ideas, openly gawking at me and making me uncomfortable. Thankfully, a savior arrived, intentionally pulling off a stunt that left me struggling to suppress my laughter as I caught sight of her straight face, despite the commotion she caused.

Realizing I didn’t have my red pen to mark attendance, I took advantage of the situation and sent Seetha, who was sitting on the bench near the door, to fetch it before she could pull off another stunt. Although I knew she’d find a way to compliment my looks in every sentence she spoke, I suppressed my smile and only let it show when she rushed out of the cabin with her usual confession.

Shaking my head, I later settled down for breakfast when Charan and Yuvan came into my cabin to show me the count and company details for the IV trip. After signing them, I sent an email to the company we were set to visit, ensuring all the arrangements were in place.

"Sir, Seetha pathi.."

(Sir, about Seetha...)

Charan dragged his words.

"I will take care"

I assured them, and they smiled before heading out. Then, with a smile, I made my way to Elango's cabin.

"Vaa da"

(Dude, come inside)

He said to me as I entered, and I pulled a chair from nearby and sat down.

"Elango naan nethu sonnen le? Charan onnu kettaan nu.."

(Elango, didn't I tell you yesterday? Charan asked for something..)

Elango smiled at me saying,

"Evening polaa da. Yen ippo ennaachu?"

(We'll go by evening. Why? What happened now?)

"Illa, seekram kelambanum. Avanga poradhukulla, namma ponum. Apro ava solli dha vandho nu edhaadhu nenachuppaanga avanga veetla"

(No, we need to leave soon. We should go there before she leaves. Otherwise, they'll think we went just because she asked us to)

"Seri da innu 4 teams dhane irukku muduchuttu kelambalaam vidu"

(Alright, there are still 4 teams left. Once they're done, we can leave)

I hummed in agree and returned to my cabin. After ten, we went to the lab and completed the project reviews. My students performed so well, and the external praised them, which made me proud. After finalizing our remarks with the examiner, I returned to the staffroom, signed the no-dues, and asked Seetha to pack up, though she looked confused and then left the staffroom.

Smiling, Elango and I went to meet the people for something more important.

And after reaching the place,

I tried to send Elango in alone, but he pulled me along, pressed the doorbell, and then stood behind me, leaving me at the front. I was stunned when the door opened to reveal Seetha's mother, who looked at me with a smile.

"Neenga.."

(You..)

I gulped and cleared my throat before introducing myself.

"Hel... hello ma'am. I'm Seetha's professor, Aayush Kumar."

Her smile widened oddly.

"I'm Elangovan, Aayush's friend and Seetha's professor."

Elango also introduced himself to her.

"Oh, ulla vaanga sir.."

(Oh, come inside)

She welcomed us inside with a warm smile. We returned her smile and entered the house.

Then, Elango and I sat on the couch awkwardly, glancing around and exchanging looks.

Seetha's mother returned from the kitchen with water in a small brass vessel and handed it to me first. I drank half and passed the rest to Elango. He took a sip and returned it to her. She smiled and asked us,

"Sollunga sir. Ennaachu dhideernu inga vandhirukel?"

(Tell me, sir. What brings you here today?)

"Adhu.. unga kittayum, Seetha oda appa kittayum konjo pesanum"

(That's... we need to speak with you and Seetha's father for a moment.)

I replied to her, but she stared at me for a brief moment, making me gulp and say,

"Just casual'aah dha. Perusaa yedhuvum nenachukka venaa"

(Just casually. There’s nothing major to worry about.)

I said hurriedly. She smiled and nodded.

"Ava appa.."

(Her father...)

"Ananthi"

We turned towards the entrance to see Seetha's father entering the house, his face frowning at the sight of us. I stood up as soon as I saw him, and then Elango too stood up with me.

"Aaru Ananthi?"

(Who are they Ananthi?)

He asked Seetha's mother, pointing us.

"Naama Seetha'oda professors nga"

(Our Seetha's professors)

She replied to him.

"Ohh"

He looked at us.

"Hello sir"

I said.

"Vanakkam sir. Utkaarunga"

(Hello, sir. Please sit)

He said with a smile.

Uff, finally.

I exhaled and sat back down, with Elango also sitting beside me. Seetha's father then took a seat on the couch across from us and looked at me.

"Anniku neenga dhane thambi? Enga paapa've eng'aathula vandhu vittadhu?"

(Are you the one who brought our baby to our house?)

Paapa va?

(Baby?)

"Aam..aamaa sir"

(Ye..yes sir)

I agreed.

"Mmm. Sollunga sir. Paapa edhaachum.."

(Mm. Tell me, sir. Is our baby did anything..)

He started speaking, but my face frowned up upon hearing his words. I immediately denied what he said, saying,

"Illa illa sir. Seetha romba nalla ponnu"

(No, no, sir. Seetha is a very good girl)

"Oh, apro yen dhideernu inga.."

(Oh, then what brings you here..?)

"Adhu.."

(That is..)

Elango looked at me, and I returned his gaze before turning to her parents, who gave me a confused smile. After ten minutes of awkwardness and discussions, we left her house.

Then, I spotted Seetha getting off her bus, but she stopped upon seeing us and walked slowly toward us with a shocked expression. She greeted Elango, who smiled and greeted her and her parents back. As Elango exited the house, I silently followed him without glancing at Seetha, though I knew she was watching me.

I let out a deep breath once we reached Elango's bike. He smiled, hopped on, and I climbed on behind him with a relieved smile.

"Enna pa idhukke ipdi moochu vidra?"

(What's with the long breath just for this simple thing?)

He teased me. I rolled my eyes.

"Ada podaa. Charan'eh sollanum, modhala. Avanaala dha ithanayum"

(Come on, man. It’s Charan who should be scolded first. He’s the one who caused all this.)

Elango glanced at me through the side mirror and asked,

"Appo neeyaave vandhu ava amma appa kitta pesala?"

(So, you didn’t even speak to her parents yourself?)

I averted my gaze from him and tapped his shoulder with my hand, avoiding the question.

"Illaye. Seri seri polaam. Enakku konjam purchase ellaam panna vendiyadhu irukku trip ku"

(No. Okay, let's go. I have some shopping to do for the trip.)

He chuckled.

"Poren poren. Moonu naal jolly'aah irundhuttu vaa"

(Alright, alright, I'm going. Have a great time for the next three days)

I smiled as he started the bike and we headed to the town area to buy some things for the trip. Later that night, I returned home to pack everything.

And that night,

Amidst the sounds of insects and the misty air, I stood beside Elango in the center of the students, who were clearly excited, though they tried to suppress it in front of their parents.

A few of the girls' parents approached me, asking me to take care of their daughters.

For the first time in my life, I felt truly responsible for others, a feeling I had only ever had for myself until that moment. I assured them, and they thanked me.

Soon after, the bus arrived, and the students gathered in front, shouting, whistling, and clapping in sync with the bus driver's horn. I smiled, watching their excitement with my hands shoved inside my jeans pockets.

I glanced at my watch and phone, hoping for a positive response, but there was none yet.

Time. Waste.

Then Charan asked me to join with them for the group photo in front of the bus. I stood beside the boys, wrapping my arm around Yuvan's shoulder.

"Deii siringa da"

(Smile please)

Elango said to us who is our photographer for now.

"Yayyyyy !"

My students raised their fists in excitement, and I smiled, standing with them. After the photo session, Rekha ma'am got the girls onto the bus, while the boys waited outside, shouting and taking selfies. I smiled at them and glanced over at Elango.

"Naan nalaiku pesuren da andha ponnu kitta"

(I'll talk to her tomorrow, okay?)

He said to me.

"Ini pesi enna da panna mudiyum?Avlo pesi paathum vidala le?"

(What can you do by talking to her now? They won’t change anything even after all our talk, right?)

"Seri vidu da"

(Okay, just leave that now)

He said, patting my shoulder. I nodded, though part of me hoped she would come while another part reminded me not to expect too much.

Then Charan and Yuvan made their way toward me.

"Sir"

"Sollu, Charan"

(Tell me)

"Sir, Seetha vara maadhiri therila. Pasangalum bus'le yaereetaanga. Neenga avalukku pay panna amount?"

(Sir, it looks like Seetha will not come. The students are already on the bus. What about the amount you paid for her?)

Charan asked me. I sighed, replying,

"Seri vidu Charan. Kudutha apro enna pandradhu? Poi yaerunga naan varen"

(Alright, Charan. What can we do about the money we paid already? Go ahead and get on the bus; I'll join you there.)

"Okay sir"

They left, and I checked my mobile one last time, then sighed mentally before turning to Elango with a smile.

"Seri macha, kelamburom. Apro andha ponnu nalaiku college vandhaa peseetu, enna sonnaa nu call panni sollu"

(Okay, dude, we’ll take our leave now. If that girl comes to college tomorrow, call me and let me know what she says.)

"Seri da"

(Sure)

He assured me. I hugged him, and he hugged me back. Then, I headed towards the bus, held the handle, placed my left foot on the step, and smiled at Elango.

My mind kept wondering, if she would come then it would make the trip even better. But I wasn’t sure what she was going through now.

Hope you're okay, Seetha.

I took a deep breath and turned to get inside the bus but stopped when I heard a car horn. Elango and I turned to see a black maruti car stopping beside the bus.

I let go of the handle and placed my foot back on the ground in shock as Seetha and her father got out of the car. I couldn’t hold back my smile.

"Hey Seethaaa di"

"Seethaa vaa?"

(Seetha?)

"Aama di Kamali"

(Yes)

"Hey maamiiiii"

I heard Kamali and Pooja's voices from inside the bus. Kamali quickly ran down, hugged her friend, and helped her arrange her trolley and bag in the storage compartment.

Seeing her parents looking at me, I walked over, stood in front of her father and said,

"Thank you, sir"

"Naan dha sir ungalukku thanks sollanum"

(It’s me who should be thanking you, sir.)

He said and suddenly hugged me, causing my eyes to widen in surprise and gasp audibly.

Slowly, over his shoulder, I glanced at Seetha, who grinned and winked at me, leaving me even more stunned as I quickly averted my gaze from her. Then, he let me go and smiled at me.

"Ponna paathukonga, sir"

(Take care of our daughter, sir)

He said, and I smiled, understanding his concern about leaving his daughter alone outside for three days for the first time.

"Naan paathukuren, sir"

(I will take care of her, sir)

The words spilled from my mouth as a promise, and I looked back at Seetha’s mother, who smiled at me.

"Paathukonga, sir"

(Take care of her, sir)

She said the same words, and I replied simply as,

"Seringa ma'am"

(Sure)

Then Seetha stepped forward, hugged her parents, and received their kisses.

Elango also came forward to express his thanks.

Finally, Rekha ma'am approached and assured them that she would take care of Seetha, telling them not to worry.

"Edhaadhu'naa Aayush sir ku call pannikonga sir"

(If there's anything you want to ask, do call Aayush sir, sir)

Elango said to her father. I glanced at him and her father with a smile, trying to hide my nervousness.

And I still couldn't understand,

Why the hell I was feeling so nervous in front of her father.

"Seringa, sir"

(Sure)

Seetha's father said to Elango.

"Aayush. Nee kelambu late aagudhu paaru"

(Aayush, you all should leave. It's getting late)

He reminded me. I hummed in acknowledgment, smiled at him and Seetha's parents, and then looked at Kamali.

"Kamali ulla ponga. Late aagudhu"

(Kamali get inside. It's getting late)

I said to them.

"Okay sir"

Rekha ma'am went inside first to quiet the boys' shouts. Then, Kamali entered, and Seetha smiled at her parents before climbing onto the bus, with me following close behind.

Charan, Yuvan, and a few girls and boys stood in front of Seetha, blocking her way by standing in front of the interior door between the driver's seat and the passenger seats. I stood behind her, pressing my hands against the bus wall on either side of her head.

"Enna da?"

(What?)

Seetha asked them.

"Epdi maami, first time IV varinga, nalla paatu paadi varaverka vendaamaa? Deii chorus'eh podunga da"

(How, maami, for the first time you're coming to the IV with us, shouldn't you be welcomed with a song? Guys, start the chorus!)

Charan said and moved towards her. She took a step back, and I did the same to avoid bumping into her. However, she stopped when he halted in front of her, turning dramatically toward the others with his arms spread wide before shouting,

"Kaathadikudhu kaathadikudhu"

(The wind is intense)

"Hoo haaa! Hooo haaa!"

Others chorused along with him. I sighed.

"Kaasi maettu kaathadikudhu"

(The fire of the wind is burning)

"Hoo haaa! Hooo haaa!"

I sighed at their antics and looked back to see her parents and the other parents still watching the bus, waiting for it to move.

"Yendha pakkam paathadikudhu?"

(Which direction is the wind coming from?)

"Seetha pakkam paathadikudhu"

(The wind is coming from seetha's direction)

I chuckled at their own lyrics to welcome her.

"Charannn"

She swatted his hand away when he grabbed her hand.

"Oothikinu paduthukalaa"

(We will rest after enduring it)

But he pulled her towards them, amidst her struggles.

"Maami'eh batharamaaa paathukalaaa"

(And we will take care of our maami safely)

"Ohhhhhhhh"

She smiled shyly like a child, standing in the center of them with excitement, and began laughing and enjoying herself.

I smiled, shaking my head, and told the driver to start the bus.

Once the bus left the campus, the speakers blared with songs that would continue until everyone grew tired.

"Tenu kaala chashma.."

After discussing the routes and their comfort with the driver, I went inside, and they saw me.

"Vaathi coming podunga da deii vennaigalaa"

(Play the 'Vaathi Coming' song, hey, everyone!)

One of the boys shouted among them. I chuckled and tried to slip away,  saying,

"Deii yedhukku da idhellaa? Naan varla, neenga enjoy pannunga.."

(Boys, No. I’m not coming; you all enjoy)

"Adhellaa mudiyaadhu"

(Not possible, sir)

Charan pulled me, and I found myself standing between Charan and Yuvan, with Seetha and Kamali beside me. They were standing, and everyone was eagerly looking at me, waiting for me to dance with them.

As I stood there smiling and scratching my brow, I bit my lower lip when they shouted,

"Deii enna da idhu sappa beat uh, koluthunga da"

(Hey, what is this, such a boring beat? Turn it up!)

"Vaathi coming othu"

I danced the hook steps of the song with them, and we all stopped as the song ended. I quickly escaped and found a seat by the window in the second row, leaving them to continue dancing while I took over as the DJ, changing the songs for them.

Five minutes passed, and I received a message from Seetha,

"Thanks"

I looked around and then to my right, noticing her sitting on another two-seater beside mine, smiling at me.

I smiled back, then opened her chat on my phone.

"Charan solli dha Seetha vandhu unga amma kitta pesunen"

(I came and asked your parents just because Charan asked me to do, Seetha)

I clarified as I didn’t want her to misunderstand or overthink my intentions.

"Irundhaalum thanks"

(Even so, thanks)

Got her instant reply, which made me smile.

"Seri, happy now?"

"Happy dha.. but, appa amma vittu irukkanum three days"

(I'm happy, but I have to stay away from mom and dad for three days)

Unmaiyaave paapa dha polaye.

(She truly resemble a baby.)

I thought.

"Adhellaa palageerum."

(You'll get used to it)

I sent and she replied,

"Okay"

Then after a minute,

"Yen vandhu utkaandhutta? Poe enjoy pannu"

(Why did you sit? Go and have fun)

I hesitated a bit to send the message but sent it, finally.

"Ungakitta peseetu polaa nu dha vandhen"

(I came just to talk to you)

"Naan inga dhane irukka poren? Ippo poi enjoy pannu enkitta yeppo venaa pesikalaa"

(I’m going to be here only, right? Go and enjoy now; you can talk to me anytime)

I sent the message and glanced at her. She smiled widely and bit her lower lip before starting to type. I quickly looked back at the chat screen, where her message had just appeared as,

"Azhaga pesuringa"

(You speak so good)

I smiled and gave her a reply,

"Seri po"

(Okay, go now)

"Ithana dhadava pugazhdren orudhadavayaadhu thanks sollalaa'le?"

(I've praised you so much, yet you haven't said thanks even once?)

I sighed

"Mch, naan enga ma azhaga irukken? En age enna theriyumaa unakku?"

(Why, where am I beautiful? Do you even know my age?)

"Age enna'vaa irundhaa enna? paakuradhukku nalla dhane irukkinga?"

(What does your age matter now? You're looking good, and that's enough)

"Nee mattum dha sollanu"

(Only you say that.)

"Humble man maadhiri nadikaadhingo. Yethana ponnunga unga pinnaadi suthuraanga nu nekku dhane theriyu😤"

(Don’t act like a humble man. I know how many girls are running after you 😤)

I chuckled.

"Humble'laa illa ma. Idhu indha age ku ungalukkulaa varadhu dha. Paatha paiyana ellaam sight adikkanum nu thonum"

(It’s not about being humble. It’s just that at this age, you all might feel this way, like wanting to check out every guy you see)

"Avangalukku laa."

(It's, they all)

I frowned.

"?"

"Illa ungalukku'laa nu sonninga le? Adhula yen enna add pandringa? enakku laa apdi illa. Ennoda feelings genuine dha"

(Didn’t you just say 'you all'? Why are you grouping me with them? I’m not like that. My feelings are genuine)

I inhaled.

"Mmm"

"?"

She asked. And I sent,

"What if Seetha.."

"What if na? Complete pannunga, professor"

(Complete it, professor)

"Venaa vidu"

(Nothing, leave it)

"Seri"

(Okay)

She sent this and again another one as,

"Naan orunaal kaettu therinjukuren"

(One day, I'll find it out.)

I frowned and asked,

"Ennadhu?"

(What?)

"Andha what if enna nu"

(What is that "what if")

I smiled.

"Mmm"

"Appa, amma've epdi samadhikka vachinga?"

(How did you convince my parents?)

"Sollalayaa unkitta avanga?"

(Didn't they tell you?)

"No"

"Oh"

"Sollunga"

(Tell me)

"Epdi type pandradhu? adhu periya kadha. Aprom soldren"

(How do I type it out? It’s a long story. I’ll tell you later.)

I tried to slip away again, but will she let me go?

"Voice record option irukku professor"

(There’s a voice record option, professor.)

She said it as if I didn’t already know.

I rolled my eyes and replied,

"Adhu enakku theriyum student madam, aana inga irukka sathathukku onnum kekaadhu"

(I know that, student madam, but with the noise here, nothing will be audible)

"Adhellaa kekkum speaker'eh kitta vachu pesunga pleasee. I want to know🥺"

(Please speak near the speaker so I can hear everything. I want to know 🥺)

I paused for a moment, then took my wired headphone from my pocket, connected it to my phone, and narrated the story of how we convinced her parents to let her go on the trip.

Once I finished, I sent the recording and casually glanced at her. She took out her AirPods, placed them in her ears, and brushed away the hair that was resting on her right shoulder.

I exhaled and looked out the window, waiting for her reply, while changing the songs on Charan's phone for the students to vibe to.
