Chapter Two: Punishment

"You're working hard." Y/N chuckled, leaning his chin onto his hand as he watched Hermione write in her book with amusement.

"You're not." Hermione spoke, not taking her eyes off of her book.

"Why would I when I can watch you instead?" Y/N said with a smile.

"You're never going to beat me then." Hermione teased, finally looking at her boyfriend.

Y/N had a sort of dreamy look on his face, making Hermione giggle.

"Like what you see?"

"No, I was just thinking about how uncute you look." Y/N joked, tucking her hair behind her ear.

"And I'm in a good mood."

"Good morning, children." Umbridge greeted from behind the class with her usual happy face.

"And I'm suddenly in a bad mood." Y/N groaned, laying his head on the table.

Hermione chuckled, holding Y/N's hand under the table as Umbridge walked through the class.

"Ordinary Wizarding Level examinations." Umbridge began.

"O-W-Ls. More commonly known as OWLs. Study hard and you will be rewarded. Fail to do so, and the consequences may be severe."

Umbridge waved her wand to hand out books to the students.

"Your previous instruction in this subject has been disturbingly uneven." She continued as the books sorted themselves to the students.

"But you'll be pleased to know, from now on... you will be following a carefully structured, Ministry-approved course of defensive magic."

Hermione skimmed through the book as soon as she had gotten her copy. She read as Umbridge spoke before shooting her hand up.

"There's nothing in here about using defensive spells?" Hermione questioned, letting go of Y/N's hand much to his dismay.

"Using spells?" Umbridge asked with a creepy giggle.

"Well, I can't imagine why you would need to use spells in my classroom."

"I seem to recall this being a 'Defense Against the Dark Arts' class?" Y/N spoke up as Umbridge made her way to their table.

"Yes, that is correct. You'll be learning about defensive spells in a secure, risk-free way." Umbridge answered, not losing her smile.

"So if we were to be attacked and we don't know how to use the spells, you'd still call that risk-free?" Y/N spat out sassily at the overly pink professor.

"Students will raise their hands when they speak in my class." Umbridge turned her back towards Y/N, walking back to the front of the class.

"What a bitch." Y/N muttered quietly.

Hermione seemed to hear him, kicking his foot under the table.

"You'll get in trouble, Y/N." Hermione warned her boyfriend, taking his hand back into hers to calm him.

Y/N sighed, resting his head on his palm with his arm propped up onto the table.

"It is the view of the Ministry... that a theoretical knowledge will be sufficient to get you through your examinations, which, after all, is what school is all about."

"Pretty sure school is to prepare us for our futures, Professor Umbit- Umbridge." Y/N sighed.

"Y/N's right. How's theory supposed to prepare us for what's out there?" Harry added, also getting fed up with the new teacher.

"There is nothing out there, dears." Umbridge shook her head.

"Who do you imagine wants to attack children like yourselves?"

"Oh, I don't know. Maybe Lord Voldemort." Harry rolled his eyes.

The class went quiet. The other houses except Slytherin didn't believe what Y/N and Harry saw that day. They all believed in the newspapers that trashed Harry instead. Umbridge's smile instantly got wiped off her face.

"Now, let me make this quite plain." Umbridge spoke softly, trying to force her smile back on.

"You have been told... that a certain dark wizard is at large once again."

Y/N could feel Hermione's grip tighten around his hand. Even she was losing her patience with the new professor. He quickly snuck a kiss onto her cheek as Umbridge walked past them, making her way across to Harry. Usually Hermione would scold him for kissing her in class but she was far too annoyed at Umbridge to do it.

"This is a lie." Umbridge firmly believed.

"It's not a lie. Y/N and I saw him. I fought him!" Harry argued with her.

"Detention, Mr. Potter!" Umbridge exclaimed, walking back towards the front of the class.

"He literally had his pet rat Crucio me and cut Harry's arm open, what other proof do you want?!" Y/N defended Harry.

"Detention for you too, Mr. Malfoy!" Umbridge was not having it.

"So according to you, Cedric Diggory dropped dead of his own accord?!" Harry kept arguing.

"Cedric Diggory's death was a tragic accident." Umbridge's smile had now completely left.

"So you're saying that you can't tell the difference between an accident and murder?!" Y/N spat out angrily.

"Y/N-" Hermione tried to stop him but it was too late.

"Enough!" Umbridge shouted.

"Enough. See me later, Mr. Potter and Mr. Malfoy. My office."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Come in." Umbridge said after Y/N and Harry knocked at her door.

Y/N looked around the overly pink room, decorated with magical plates that had cats on them, meowing. He wanted to make another comment about how the room was as hideous as the professor herself but Hermione had warned him not to anger her further.

"Good evening, Mr. Potter, Mr. Malfoy. Sit."

Y/N and Harry carefully walked into the room and took a seat on separate desks, each with an hour glass and a pink placemat.

"You're going to be doing some lines for me today." Umbridge said softly.

Y/N and Harry both reached into their bags to get their quills.

"No, not with your quills." She stopped them.

"You're going to be using a rather special one of mine."

She smiled, placing a piece of parchment and a quill down each in front of them.

"Now... I want you both to write, 'I must not tell lies.'"

Y/N opened his mouth to argue with her but stopped himself when he remembered Hermione's face when she scolded him about talking back to Umbridge. Y/N's fear of angry, wandless Hermione outweighed his hate for the frog-faced professor.

"How many times?" Harry asked.

"Well, let's say for as long as it takes for the message to sink in." Umbridge took a step back, watching over the two boy's shoulders.

"You haven't given us any ink." Harry spoke up once more.

"Oh, you won't need any ink." Umbridge smiled creepily at them.

Y/N sighed before beginning to write. The quill began working without the use of ink, in red writing. Y/N felt his hand heating up while he wrote, groaning in pain after he wrote one sentence. He looked at his hand to see his own handwriting cutting itself onto his skin as he wrote. He looked up to see Harry having the same reaction.

"Yes?" Umbridge asked, feeling Y/N and Harry's glares.

"Nothing." Y/N muttered out.

"That's right." Umbridge smiled, walking in front of the two boys.

"Because you both know, deep down... you deserve to be punished. Don't you?"

Y/N gritted his teeth, glaring deeply at her.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I'm not asking you to write all of it for me." Y/N and Harry heard Ron's voice as he and Hermione entered the Great Hall.

"It's just- I've been busy studying for these stupid OWL exams."

"I'll do the introduction. That's all." Hermione replied sounded quite annoyed.

Y/N instantly pulled his sleeve down upon hearing her voice, covering the new scar on his hand.

"Hermione, you're honestly the most wonderful person I've ever met." Ron praised her.

"And if I'm ever rude to you again..."

"Then she'll know you've gone back to normal." Y/N said, forcing a smile as Hermione took a seat next to him.

Hermione chuckled before leaning her head onto Y/N's shoulder. She grabbed Y/N's hand, making him flinch due to the fresh wound.

"Y/N?" Hermione noticed Y/N's sudden movement.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing." Y/N smiled softly at her, pressing a small kiss onto her cheek.

"Y/N. I've known you since we were 11. I know when something's wrong." Hermione stared at him sternly.

Y/N went silence as Hermione pulled his hand to inspect it, carefully pulling his sleeve up with her other hand. She looked at the scar in shock.

"Do you have it too, Harry?" Hermione questioned the other boy who seemed to avoid her gaze.

"You've got to tell Dumbledore."

"No." Harry instantly spoke up.

"Dumbledore's got enough on his mind right now."

"And I don't want to give Umbridge the satisfaction." Y/N added.

"Y/N, they're torturing you both." Hermione said with a voice full of worry, gently interlocking her fingers with Y/N's.

"As if you don't have enough scars on your arm from the 2nd task last year."

"If the parents knew about this-" Ron started.

"Yeah, well I haven't got any of those, have I, Ron?" Harry spat.

"You'll tell your parents, won't you, Y/N?" Hermione placed a hand onto her boyfriend's cheek to make him face her.

"I can't." Y/N tried to look away but was pulled into an embrace by her.

"You've got to report this." Hermione muttered.

"It's perfectly simple. You're both being-"

"No, it's not." Harry cut her off.

"Hermione, whatever this is, it's not simple."

"Y/N, please." She shifted her attention to her boyfriend.

"You don't understand, 'Mione. I can't tell them." Y/N sighed before placing a kiss onto her head.

"Then help me understand." Hermione pleaded.

"Granger." Y/N pulled away from their embrace.

There was no way he could tell her about what was going on inside the Malfoy Manor at the moment.

"I can't."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Honestly, Y/N you really should just let me tell father." Draco sighed, inspecting Y/N's scar.

"No way, he'd make the biggest deal out of it. He might even send me off to Durmstrang." Y/N argued, pulling his hand away.

"At least you've got a cool battle scar?" Blaise tried to reassure.

"Got plenty of those during these years." Y/N chuckled, his gaze falling down to his shoes.

Y/N tuned out his brother and the other Slytherin's as he relived his memories.

"Hey! Pretty boy!" Ginny cut him out of his thoughts.

"Well, if it isn't my favourite Weasley." Y/N smiled upon seeing her.

"To what do I owe the pleasure, Tangerine?"

"Hermione and I need you for something." Ginny answered, pulling him by the hand.

Y/N shrugged at his friends before following her towards the Gryffindor common room. She made Y/N cover his ears as she muttered out the password before dragging him behind her into their dorms.

"Did you find him?" Hermione asked, sitting on her bed.

On the bed next to her sat Luna Lovegood, a Ravenclaw that Hermione and Ginny had gotten along with. They seemed to be conversing with one another until Y/N and Ginny came in.

"Granger." Y/N smiled upon seeing his girlfriend.

Hermione looked at Y/N with the softest look and the gentlest smile. Y/N loved the way she looked at him which prompted him to run at her and attacking her with a hug making them both fall onto her bed.

"Y/N!" She squealed, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck.

Y/N peppered her neck with kisses, making her giggle loudly as she tried to pry him off.

"We're still here you know?" Ginny reminded them with a giggle.

"I know and I don't care." Y/N poked her tongue at her.

Y/N pressed one last kiss onto Hermione's lips before finally getting off her.

"So, what did you girls need me for?" Y/N asked, sitting next to Hermione.

"Well..." Ginny trailed off.

"You've got a pretty face..."

"No need to tell me." Y/N winked at her.

"Ginny and Hermione had suggested practicing makeup on you." Luna spoke up with her gentle way of speaking and a small smile.

"No." Y/N instantly stood up from his place.

"Please?" Ginny begged, blocking the door so that Y/N couldn't leave.

"My handsomeness is all natural." Y/N said, trying to leave but was stopped by Hermione's hand pulling him back.

"Y/N..." Hermione forced him to look at her.

"Please?"

Y/N closed his eyes upon seeing her pleading face. Gosh she was adorable.

"Give me a kiss first." Y/N sighed dramatically.

The girls cheered after Hermione had given him the kiss he had wanted before forcing him to sit cross-legged on the floor. They began their work with Luna painting Y/N's nails and Ginny combing his hair. Y/N couldn't help but smile at their serious faces, actually enjoying himself a bit.

"Hold still." Hermione instructed, leaning in close to her face with lip gloss in her hands.

Y/N did as she had asked, staring into her eyes that were locked onto his lips as she carefully applied the product. He studied her face close up. Though he didn't admit it to her often. She was beautiful.

"Done." Hermione smiled at her handiwork.

Y/N chuckled before leaning in to kiss her. Hermione accepted the kiss, pressing her own lips back making the other girls giggle at their cuteness.

"Why is he here?" Ron spat out, peeking from the doors with Harry who looked interested in what the girls were doing.

Ginny stopped working on Y/N's hair and made her way towards the two boys. Y/N couldn't really hear her conversation with the two boys, instead focusing on Hermione who put something onto his cheeks.

A few minutes later, Harry was sat next to him. Luna and Ginny began working on him instead while Hermione focused on Y/N.

"Don't I looked great?" Y/N laughed out proudly, showing off his face to Harry.

Harry giggled at him with a green mask on his face.

"Yeah, great." Harry chuckled.

"Now they've got you too?!" Ron had come back, peeking in on the giggling group.

Ginny stood up once more, attacking her brother with lipstick in her hands. She managed to push him over, sitting on his chest as she tried to put the lipstick on his face.
