Chapter Four: Butterflies

"Don't you think it's a bit creepy?" Y/N spoke up while resting his chin on his hands.

He and Hermione were sat at the library as usual, studying together.

"What's creepy?" Hermione asked, turning to look at her best friend.

"He's always staring at you." Y/N said lazily, not lifting his eyes from his book.

Hermione looked from her book while tucking her hair behind her ear to see Viktor Krum eyeing her like a prize to be won.

"Don't make it so obvious, Lion."

"Perhaps he's a little lonely and he's just shy?" Hermione suggested, flipping the page on her book.

"Lonely?" Y/N scoffed, turning to face her.

"Have you seen all the fans he has?"

Hermione looked Y/N in the eyes, raising an eyebrow at him.

"Popular people can be lonely." She defended.

"Why are you defending him?" Y/N spat out, a bit taken aback.

"You know it's creepy."

"Y/N-" Hermione began to speak but cut herself off, not really sure why either.

Y/N went quiet, feeling a bit annoyed for some reason. Whenever he saw him look at her, it made his heart ache and he didn't know why.

"Y/N." Hermione called out to him after a few minutes of silence.

Y/N ignored her, feeling a lump in his throat.

"Y/N." Hermione called out to him once more, placing her soft hand onto his.

Y/N turned to look at her, gulping when he saw the genuinely conflicted expression on her face.

"I'm sorry, Y/N." She apologized, staring deeply into his pale eyes.

Y/N sighed, looking down as he shook his head.

"No, I'm sorry." Y/N swallowed his pride.

He flipped his hand over to hold hers tightly. Y/N and Hermione always seemed to get lost into each others eyes. He didn't mean to get jealous over Krum. Really. He was genuinely concerned about the way Krum looked at Hermione every time they were in the library together but he ended up feeling like he'd somehow lose Hermione if he had let the situation keep going.

"I'm sorry, Hermione."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Amazing!" Neville grinned, knees deep into the lake as he fiddled around with some plants.

"Amazing!" He repeated himself.

"Neville. You're doing it again." Harry said, folding his book in his lap.

Harry was sat against a tree that Y/N had climbed, laying across on a thick branch. Y/N was beyond bored. Hermione had gone off with Ron early that day so he was left with Harry and Neville. Y/N could have hung out with the other students but all the Slytherin's were interested in at the moment was how Y/N and Harry managed to join the Triwizard Tournament. Of course he could also hang out with the other houses but he was not in the mood to be in the middle of gossip.

"Oh." Neville's voice was small.

"Right, sorry."

"'Magical Water Plants of the Highland Lochs'?" Harry read out.

"Yeah, Moody gave it to me." Neville replied.

"That day we had tea."

"It's already been through enough people." Y/N sat up on the branch upon hearing his favorite person's voice.

"Why don't you just go and talk to them yourself?"

Y/N bored expression instantly switched to a soft smile at the sight of her. She wore a long Gryffindor scarf along with a green coat, her hands tucked away into her pocket. Gosh she was beautiful.

"Ron, this is your problem, not mine." Hermione whispered with great annoyance.

"What do you want me to say again?"

Y/N's smile quickly dropped upon seeing Ron though his eyes remained gentle. Ginny was with them too, though not many people knew it well, Hermione and Ginny were basically best friends too. He quickly jumped down from the tree, landing next to Harry.

Hermione sighed loudly, shaking her head as she walked towards the two confused boys.

"Ronald would like me to tell you that Seamus told him..." Hermione said, furrowing her eyebrows trying to remember.

"...that Dean was told by Parvati that Hagrid's looking for you two."

"Is that right?" Harry spat with a glare.

"Well... What?"

Hermione sighed once more, groaning as she made her way towards Ron to ask him again. The two whispered to each other again before Hermione strode over to the two boys.

"Dean was told by Parvati that..." She began once more.

"Please don't ask me to say it again. Hagrid's looking for you." She turned away.

"Well, you can tell Ronald-"

"I'm not an owl!" Hermione spat out, cutting Harry off.

"Yeah, she's a Lion." Y/N chuckled, shoving his hands into his pockets before chasing after her.

"Y/N, I'm really not in the mood." She growled as he walked alongside her.

Y/N grabbed Hermione's hand to stop her from walking which immediately made Ron and Ginny stop too.

"Y/N." Hermione looked him into the eyes.

Although he was used to it by now, he loved the way his name rolled off of her tongue so perfectly.

"Meet me at our spot in an hour." Y/N whispered into her ear, making her shiver before letting her go.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Bloody hell." Y/N cursed under his breath upon looking at his watch, running down the halls.

It had been longer than an hour since he asked Hermione to meet him. He had gone to meet Hagrid with Harry, talking about bringing Harry's cloak and to meet him when the moon was up and it had taken much longer than Y/N had expected so here he was, running desperately to meet his love.

"Granger!" Y/N called out, placing his hands on his knees, panting.

"Y/N?" Hermione looked up from her book, her back resting against the tree.

She looked much more calm than before.

"I was beginning to think you weren't coming."

Y/N walked slowly towards her with a smile before taking a seat, facing her.

"When have I ever broken a promise with you?" He chuckled, bringing his hand out and summoning his strange book.

"Why did you ask me to meet you here anyways?" Hermione asked, leaning close to the boy.

Y/N shrugged his shoulders, flipping through the pages.

"Is it a crime to want to be with my favourite person?" Y/N chuckled.

"I thought you said you hated me." Hermione joked.

"It's a love-hate relationship, Granger." Y/N teased, looking into her eyes.

Hermione hummed out a response as Y/N got on his knees, folding the book and letting it disappear.

"You've been stressed lately." Y/N said the obvious, tucking her hair behind her ear, looking at the bags under her eyes.

"Well, when your two best friends are about to potentially lose their lives, it's hard not to be." She replied sarcastically.

"And Ron?" Y/N questioned, tilting his head.

"And Ron." Hermione sighed.

Y/N chuckled at the look of disappointment on her face. The two went quiet for a bit, both staring at the small area of grass that stood between them when Y/N suddenly had an idea. He cupped his hands together as if something was in it.

"Guess what's in my hands." Y/N said excitedly like a child coming home with a good grade.

"I saw you cup your hands with nothing but air inside it, Y/N." Hermione chuckled at the pale-eyed boy.

"Aw, c'mon. Guess." Y/N insisted, feeling warmth inside his hands.

"I don't know." She answered, now a bit confused.

"Give it a kiss." Y/N smirked, holding his hands up to her.

"You're joking." Hermione groaned, facing away to hide the smile on her face.

"Please." Y/N whined, bringing his hands up closer.

Hermione faked a sigh before planting a soft kiss onto Y/N's hands.

"Thank you, now my magic is complete!" Y/N exclaimed, standing up with his hands still cupped together.

He lied though. He had already done the magic part, he just wanted a kiss.

Hermione looked up at him, raising an eyebrow at his cheeky smile when he pressed his hands to his own lips, right up to where Hermione kissed him, making them both blush slightly. He opened his hands to reveal a small blue flame, burning from his hands. Y/N blew at the flames, making multiple butterflies to form out of them, swarming around Hermione.

She giggled as the butterflies pressed to her cheek, sending her warmth but didn't burn her. Y/N placed his hands in his pockets, enjoying the sound of Hermione's giggles. His whole expression was soft. Y/N felt butterflies of his own inside his stomach, fluttering at the sounds of Hermione's giggles. He felt as if he was falling from great heights just with the sight of the smile on her face.

The butterflies eventually faded as Y/N took a seat back in front of Hermione.

"You can do wandless magic?" She spoke up.

"I guess so. But you've seen me do it before?" Y/N stared her in the eyes.

"I thought that was just with the markings. But you can do magic out of thin air." Hermione stared back.

Hermione wasn't stupid, she knew Y/N was a powerful wizard after she had learned of the book he found.

"Fallen for my power now, Granger?" Y/N teased, moving over to lean against the tree with her.

"You know, you and Harry should try to talk to Ron." She avoided his question, leaning her head against Y/N's shoulder.

Y/N rested his head against hers as they both looked over the lake.

"It's Ron that's avoiding us, 'Mione." Y/N sighed, staring out.

"It's Hermione, Y/N, not 'Mione." She scolded him as they rested lazily on each other.

"Who cares?" Y/N said, his hand inching closer to Hermione's.

"Your name's too long."

Hermione sighed, giving up on Y/N's stubbornness.

"You know what's true bravery and strength?" She forced the topic back to the previous one.

Y/N hummed out a reply, finding his own type of bravery, taking Hermione's hand into his.

"Forgiving someone who wasn't even sorry."

"Not to be dramatic but I would literally rather die." Y/N groaned, rubbing his thumb against the back of her palm.

"You don't mean that." Hermione insisted.

"I do. I, Y/N Malfoy, would rather die than forgive Ronald." Y/N said seriously.

Hermione sighed once more, closing her eyes to rest. She fell asleep a few minutes later.

Y/N remained awake, becoming Hermione's personal pillow. He stared out at the lake, watching the soft ruffling of the water's surface. His hand still holding Hermione's tight as he softly massaged it.

"Honestly. You're too comfortable with me." Y/N chuckled at the fast-asleep girl.

"When will you start seeing me as a man?"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Harry, did you bring your father's cloak like I asked you?" Hagrid lead the two boys across the Forbidden Forest with a lantern in his hands.

"Yeah, I brought the cloak." Harry answered.

"Where are we going anyways?" Y/N yawned, following a bit behind the two.

"You'll see soon enough." Hagrid replied.

"Now pay attention, this is important."

"What's with the flower?" Harry furrowed his eyebrows at the plant on Hagrid's coat.

"Did you do something with your hair?" Y/N asked, jogging up to them.

"As a matter of fact, I have." Hagrid answered quite proudly.

"Harry and Ron might like to try the same thing now and again."

"Oh, believe me. I've tried to get them to do it. Their heads look awful right now." Y/N groaned, looking at Harry's messy, long hair.

"Maybe you'd actually have a chance with Cho if you fixed yourself up a little, Harry."

Harry shouldered Y/N in retaliation making the boy mumble out a small sorry while rubbing his arm.

A roar echoed through the forest, startling the group a bit.

"Hagrid?" A woman with a strong French accent called out through the forest.

Hagrid smiled widely before making his way towards the voice.

"The cloak! Put the cloak on!" Hagrid told the two boys before continuing.

Y/N and Harry nodded before doing so and following the half-giant to his destination.

"Harry. If I see Hagrid and Madame Maxime snogging, I'm out." Y/N groaned, walking along with Harry.

"Oh believe me. I'd be out too." Harry chuckled.

"Bonsoir, Olympe." Hagrid chimed at her sight.

"Oh, Hagrid." She walked over to him.

"I thought perhaps you weren't coming. I thought perhaps... you had forgotten me."

"Couldn't forget you, Olympe." Hagrid smiled softly.

"I think I'm about to vomit." Y/N turned to look away.

"Blegh." Harry fake gagged.

"What is it you wanted to show me?" Madame Maxime asked Hagrid in her usual strong accent.

Hagrid looked down at her hand that comfortably touched his chest.

"When we spoke earlier, you sounded so... exhilarated."

"You'll be glad you came. Trust me." He took her hand, dragging her deeper into the forest.

Y/N and Harry followed behind, trying their best not to step on any sticks that may indicate their presence.

"You don't suppose he brought us here just to third wheel right?" Harry asked as they followed them through a bush.

"I don't think this is a date site, Harry." Y/N gulped upon arriving.

In front of them were five stalls, fire coming out of them with roars. Plenty of men with lanterns ran around, shouting, trying to calm the dragons that the stalls held.

"C'est magnifique." Madame Maxmime gasped at the sight.

"Can we get closer?"

"You don't suppose..." Harry whispered.

"That they're going to be one of the tasks?" Y/N finished for him.

"I don't know."

Harry grunted before peeking his head out of the cloak.

"Dragons?" He questioned Hagrid.

"That's the first task?! You're joking."

The two boys removed the cloaks from themselves once Madame Maxime had gone closer to the dragons.

"Come on." Hagrid scoffed.

"These are seriously misunderstood creatures."

The dragon seemed to get out of control, breathing out so much fire that Y/N thought the whole forest would be set ablaze.

"Oh, crikey!" Hagrid exclaimed, ducking down.

"Although, I have to admit... that Horntail is a right nasty piece of work. Poor Ron nearly fainted just seeing him, you know."

"You showed them to Ron?" Y/N questioned the hairy man.

"Oh, sure." Hagrid replied.

"His brother Charlie helped to bring him over from Romania. Didn't Ron tell you two that?"

"No, he didn't." Harry answered.

"Ron's let his jealously take over him. If Draco could understand me, the least Ron could do was try to understand Harry." Y/N scoffed, annoyed at the mention of the red-haired boy.

A/N: I know I'm the writer but even I'm getting impatient and just want Y/N and Hermione to kiss already
