(V2) Chapter 2 - Pretty Bird
Hopefully I don't portray his character in the direct opposite way of how he's acted thus far...
Larry started today a bit different than usual. Instead of just getting up and going over to let Jessie fawn over him till he had to leave; this time, this time he decided he wanted a little something else...
It had been over three months for everyone now: Three Boring ass months. With nothing happening, nothing interesting going on, and no one even trying to challenge him like usual. It was...strange, and annoying. Larry liked getting everyone at each other's throats, he'd been trying to do it for years...with little success for the most part with some people in his class back on his former planet.
...Nothing worked! He needed to have that spice to start a good day. He needed to have the glares everyone in the room focused on him, he needed to have the fawning or screaming worship of those around him: whether it was out of pain or worship he did not care. Larry only cared about what he wanted at the moment, and this moment he wanted one of the freak's feathers.
He didn't know what happened over the past few weeks, with him being stuck in another kingdom doing a job he absolutely loved: having the power to decide whether a person gained access to an entire Mega-city like the Kingdom of forge wasn't something he would pass up for the world...and there was that adorable cat-girl that kept on stirring him on.
He wanted her so, so badly...Larry shook his head clear of any future plans, he couldn't take the cat-girl just yet. Even with the guard he'd gained by saving some unfortunate creature off of a whim while in a dungeon--something the soon proved to be one of the best things he'd done since arriving in this new world--he knew that the cat-girl had some powerful friends and until they were dealt with, or very distracted, he wouldn't be able to claim his prize.
It was already irritating enough that his former teacher, also a newly minted cat-girl--though slightly less so than the other--was being protected by literally everyone in his former class...except for Jessie. Larry figured that he would have to either kill or break her sooner or later otherwise she might actually get in the way of some of his more important plans...
Larry took a glance behind him, at the towering (War Orc) following behind him with surprisingly minimal noise for their size. He was hoping to keep such an imposing being around for longer, but he did acknowledge that he might have to dump Bob somewhere and leave him behind: whether it was broken and literally unable to follow, or whether it was left behind in a cave or something with no idea where Larry had gone. Though, if he were to base everything off of chance, the Orc might be the only thing that was keeping him from being outright kicked out of the Empire, or even killed: since it seemed the Emperor had a bit of an interest in the giant creature...
...Whatever. Larry knew he couldn't keep Bob around for long, but he was certainly going to use the big guy to his fullest dark extend while he was under Larry's servitude.
As the two of them walked through the halls of the gigantic mansion to get to the stairs, it irritated him to no end that everyone else had decided to stay on the first sub-floor of the building instead of on the ground floor or even a floor above like he had...actually, maybe that was why: they all wanted to be as far away from him as possible...well, no matter, even if Larry had to take a slight detour he would do what he wanted to do this morning.
As he rounded a the last corner of the hallway leading to the stairs down Larry had to keep in a heavy sigh as he saw the object of his own personal nightmares standing by her door right at the edge of the stairs...Jessica. Ever since she first saw Larry in the morning in this new world, like in the old world, she seemed to change her entire lifestyle around greeting him in the mornings and standing to be a general nuisance to him every single day. It was getting to the point where Larry was actually thinking about leading her off somewhere and having her get either ambushed by the ravishing darkness of this world, or just ordering the Orc to off her in the middle of some alley...
"Hi Larry," She waved to him with a brightness as real as a sunflower lightening up the darkest of nights...Larry still didn't know how she still had make-up to wear after such a long time of this routine of hers. "How was your night?" He peppy cheerfulness made Larry want to tear out his eyes...or hers.
Pretend for now, deal with he later..."Hi Jessie, sweetie. I had the most engaging dream: It was just the two of us, enjoying the solace of the calming expanse of an endless ocean, and each other." It was much more enjoyable when I had claws or fangs to tear out your throat afterwards, watching as the light left your eyes while I fucked your dying corpse into the sand...
She, predictably, blushed "I'm glad to hear that, I hope I was very satisfying for you--" I nodded absentmindedly and counted down to the moment she pretended to trip over herself just as we approached the stairs. Aiming to go tumbling down unless I caught her; I did, but just letting her tumble down a flight of marble stairs was all too pleasing to fantasize about. "Oh. Thank you Larry, you're always my Hero"
Ugh, that tone. Larry had to hold in his gagging at her puny attempt at idolizing his title, and just when I was starting to enjoy myself too...
"I, um--What are your plans for today?" She twirled her brown hair with a finger and 'gingerly' made her way down the stairs, "If you don't mind, I was thinking--"
Please don't-- Larry cringed, Your brain is already fried enough, it doesn't need to go about ruining my life more so than you already have...remember: be polite, be sensual. "I'm sorry Jessie, but I had to work for most of the day today and there are a few other things I have planned for the evening so I won't be able to give you the attention you deserve...'as if'"
"Oh," she visibly deflated and then perked up again. Larry sighed internally, already knowing what she was going to ask...'I could come to work with you...'
"I could come to work with you," she begged, one of the few times Larry actually felt like she was worth giving any sort of attention. "I promised that I won't get in the way; I won't even speak, I just want to see what you're doing all day--"
Your pushing it Jessie, Larry grinned slyly, Your mask is slipping...
"I--" Larry sighed, brushing his hair with a hand and turning to her solemnly. He had to at least pretend he cared..."I'm sorry Jessie, I don't think my employers like it if I brought along some strange they've never seen before to just be there while I work. Everything you do would reflect back on me, and I don't want to give them a bad impression...as if, I'm surprised the Guard hasn't kicked me out of yet with how I treated people. A cruel sharp-toothed, crimson grin plastered itself onto Larry's Metaphysical being and disappeared just as quickly as it manifested.
Even I don't know how I managed to get the job in the first place, and I'm more surprised the people haven't tried to just overrun me when I'm standing guard with how much shit I've put them all through; then again, most of them aren't anywhere near my level, and Bob certainly scares off any that have a slight urge to try...Larry took a glance back at the red-armored giant that barely fit the halls of the mansion, he insisted on being by Larry's side no matter how inconvenient of a space he was forced through...those were fun times. I still want to pry that armor off the useless grunt and make a smith turn it into something I could use, but as much as I want the armor until I'm as strong as or stronger than the guy he's most likely the only thing keeping me alive.
"I promise that when I can I'll try to show you around, and maybe my employer will be willing to hire you if I put in a good word..." Larry smirked as Jessie beamed at him. Everything was fake, the attention she showed him, the attention he showed her, the very attitude both of them had towards each other and others. They both wanted to use the other, and while she might have had other wants as well, Larry wasn't at all interested in indulging her.
They made their way to the giant living area everyone seemed to have named 'The Great Hall'--it was fitting, Larry had to give them that about the place--but before they got too far from the stairs he turned to Jessie and put on his best hopeful look. "I've been thinking--there is something I do want when I come back today," He had her full attention now...good. "If possible could you get one of the freaks' feathers for me...I want one of the longest, one of their brightest feathers. It's been something that's been on my mind for a while now, and while I can't seem to get too close to the creature, you might be able to with your particular...skill-set."
"Yes," She agreed without hesitation, as any god pet should, "I promise I'll get you one of their feathers. Can I ask for something in return?" Yes, good. Everything was going as intended; After all, All good pets should be rewarded shouldn't they...Larry leant forwards to speak directly into her ears with a whisper.
"I'll give you the thing you want the most if you get a feather for me," He pulled back and smiled at her, "After all, it's such a pretty bird. Don't you agree?"
...Sorry if you found this triggering or disturbing.
I don't really know what happened to my mood between wanting to write this, and actually doing so...I was also going to have the first actual chapter be in Sc'the's POV, but I figured there's going to be a lot more action and adventuring in this Arc than the previous, so (in my mind) it only makes sense to include the perspective of other characters rather than Sc'the, main character he may be...other perspectives matter too...
Going forwards we'll likely be seeing more of the reincarnates...though they won't be the main focus, I'll pretty much only be doing this until they either meet up for the first time with the actual MC, or until something important happens just to put you all on the edge of your psyches. At least until I know what to do with their individual characters over them just existing that is...
I've also learned that I can't write narcissistic/sociopathic characters...I don't know if that's a good thing, or a bad thing...like some sort of mental block I've subconsciously put up due to past events.
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed the first chapters and the gradual rise of this second Arc!
