Elder Darius and Elder Kira shooed us away right after breakfast, mumbling something about time is running out or whatever. Elder Kira had a worried look in her eye and Elder Darius held a serious one as he glared at me before disappearing back into the Great Hall with Abby.

I turn to look at Allys and she does the same.

"I should have told Abby," I say as I hold my left arm with my right hand while turning my eyes down to the floor, "This is my fault,"

Allys steps forward, "You don't know that! We don't know exactly what is causing this!"

I turn my eyes back up to her, "Yeah, but I am a klutz. Elder Darius is going to think I am related to it,"

She glances behind us, to the door of the Great Hall then back at me, "Yeah but you don't,"

I sigh softly. She might be right. We really don't know what is happening yet. I sure hope it is nothing serious though. I hope Abby is not getting in trouble or something, because of my record of being a klutz. Everyone knows I mess everything up. Sometimes I am glad I am the second oldest, because I would be a terrible Queen. Abby and Allys are way better at these kinds of things than me. Being the sister of the Queen is hard enough, especially since I am a screw up.

"Have you seen anything indifferent, Lady Abby?" A hushed voice says from behind the Great Hall double doors. Allys and I turn around to look towards the door.

"Nothing out of the ordinary. Why, Elder Kira?" I hear Abby ask.

"Nothing at all?"

"Nothing. What is wrong? Do you know what is happening?"

"Nothing? Are you sure, Lady Abby? Are you keeping something from us?" Elder Darius chimes in with a bit of suspicion in his voice.

"I'm not keeping anything from you! Do you know what is happening?" Abby asks again, "I am worried about our people!"

"Are you saying we are not?" Elder Darius sounds a bit annoyed.

"Please calm down, Darius," Elder Kira softly butts in, "Lady Abby, we do not know what is happening, but we do know what could be happening,"

"Yes, and I have my suspicions. But for now, you must understand the rest of our history about our magic scrolls, Lady Abby. They have magic from life, as you should know. Our magic works through the concept that the life forces are balanced and terrible things begin to happen when this balance gets in—" Elder Darius begins with his slightly annoyed-sounding voice.

Abby interrupts him, "But how can the balance become interrupted? Why are you asking me if I am hiding something from you? Do you suspect it has to do with me?" I can hear the annoyance appear in my sister's voice.

Allys and I creep closer to the door while opening our ears and listening closer to the conversation.

"Don't interrupt me, Abby! There are several things that could change the balance within the life force magic! The balance from the outside could be intruding inside. This is a possibility. Also, there could be an inside mishap forcing the life force to become imbalanced," Elder Darius pauses.

"I—Intruding inside?"

"Yes, Abby! We no longer trust those humans, remember your history lessons, child? Once they started those wars of theirs, they destroyed everything they touched! That is why we are hiding! And I know all about how your little sisters are troublemakers! They always are doing something to annoy me!"

I feel a wave of sadness wash over me as I listen to Elder Darius' words. I know he is concerned but he always is like this. He always jumps on me.

"Hey, just wait a second, Darius..."

"That's Elder Darius, child! I am asking you to keep watch on them, Abby. This is serious if the life force becomes too imbalanced. The magic barrier will disappear, Abby!"

"I—I know, Elder Darius, I just do not believe my sisters have done anything, at least on purpose! What if something else is happening? How can we stop this, no matter what caused it?"

"We will have to find the cause and expel it from continuing. If the humans are doing something out there, or somehow know we exist here still, we will need to end their progress. They are a greedy race! They will surely seek our magic for themselves! If something is happening inside here, the same thing must be done. We must keep the life forces balanced!" Elder Darius pauses.

"Kira..." Elder Darius' voice is softer and slightly calmer now.

"Y—yes?" Elder Kira's voice sounds slightly worried.

"Take Lady Abby into the library. Show her our sacred scrolls and allow her to study them. Maybe she can channel her life magic given to her from her mother to bring balance back into the life forces here,"

Everywhere around me, the magic barrier flickers again, causing a static noise this time to fill the castle walls. The halls are lit up brightly with a blinding white light and a loud, spontaneous clap of static fills my ears.

"Y—yes, right away," She pauses and I begin to hear shuffling sounds come from the other side of the door, "Come, Lady Abby. Hurry,"

I gasp as I feel Allys grab my arm and tug me behind the doors as they are pushed open. I see Elder Kira frantically leading Abby down the corridor towards the library within the opposite wing.

Allys tugs my arm again and when I turn to her, she is turning to run away. I quickly follow her and dart around the corner, away from the doors to the Great Hall. When we reach a safe distance away, outside in the gardens, Allys stops and begins to pant.

She turns to me with her gloomy eyes and I cannot help but look back with the same look, "Elder Darius is really mean," She says, quietly.

"I know..." I answer softly, darting my eyes away from hers and up into the sky. The barrier is moving quicker than it has ever moved before. Sometimes small flickers of black mist can be seen for a split second in places along the barrier, almost like a lightning flash. The forest around the castle looks like they are hanging lower than before, almost like the tree branches are sulking or losing life magic.

That means they are dying.

I cannot help but feel like the forest is dying because of me. Emotions flood me and really horrible thoughts wash through my mind as I look around me.

I feel arms wrap around my waist and I look down to see Allys looking up at me, "It will be okay, Alexis. Abby will save everything..."

I pull her into an embrace, "I hope so,"

"I know she will..." Allys says in a whisper, "I—I'm scared... I have a bad feeling..."

I quietly swallow and look around the darkening forest as I feel ourselves sink slowly into the flower bed we find ourselves in, "Me too..."
