What would happen if we come across more of those humans? What would they do if they find us? I am not entirely sure where they are even going with Abby, I was only thinking about getting a weapon and then leaving the village without being found. Now that we are out here... what now?

I continue looking around for another moment before slowly taking small steps forward towards a large tree that looks to be dead. It is so tall and there are no colors or leaves upon its branches.

"That giant tree is dead, Alexis," Allys whispers from behind me.

"I think everything is, Allys," I whisper back.

Are we even good enough with these weapons to fight those humans? There are way more of them than there are us and I am afraid I will not be able to do much if they find us. I must protect Allys and find Abby but I am not that good at anything but messing everything up.

The large tree grows nearer as I slowly approach it. I keep my eyes fixated on its dark branches and they look like long and slender arms with skinny fingers stretching in all directions. I tighten my grip on the bow in my left hand as the eerie tall tree grows even nearer. I feel Allys grip my right arm as she slowly walks with me. I think I feel how much she is shivering, or maybe it is just myself.

"I think we should stay hidden in the shadows for now, Allys," I continue, softly.

"O—Okay... I am scared,"

"Me too,"

I can't even find anything that we should follow. There is nothing in all directions.

Except for one village in the distance.

Maybe we should go there. But what would we find if we go there? That must be a human village. There will be evil humans there and they will surely not like to see us. Will they call their leader here to get us? Will they kidnap us too and force us to do the horrible things they want?

Will they kill us?

I reach out my right hand as the dead tree trunk gets in range and the bark is rough to my delicate fingers. When I suddenly see a shimmer of light appear around my hand, I pull it back swiftly and study the shimmering bark intently. I lean in a little and begin to see the part of the bark I touched grow back into life. The roughness it was is slowly turning smooth.

"Wh—What is happening? Alexis! Look!"

I hear my sister increase the surprise in her voice but I cannot tear my eyes away from the shimmering tree bark that is now a tiny bit larger than it once was a moment ago.

"The bark. The bark, Allys! It's glowing! The bark where I touched!"

"The ground beneath our feet, Alexis! It's glowing too!"

I—It is?

I jerk my eyes down from the bark and around my feet is the same yellowish glow. The deep brown and crunchy grass surrounding my feet is now slowly changing to a yellow-green color. I follow my footsteps from behind me and every spot has a faint yellow glow all the way up to the tree where we now stand.

Everything we touched, is glowing. Why? What is happening? Is this that magic that Lady Felicia told us about? I don't know how I am using it. All I did was touch the tree. And now it is glowing like I used my magic on it or something. Is it coming back to life now?

"What is that? Everything we touched is glowing yellow!"

"I—I am not sure, Allys,"

"Is this magic touch based? That's all we did, right?"

"Yeah, I think so,"

"Are we giving... life or something? The yellow glow looks like it is growing whatever we touched,"

"Maybe? Didn't Lady Felicia call is life magic? But she never told us what it means or how we use it,"

"Maybe it means this?"

I think Allys is right. Maybe it does mean this. Maybe everything that is dead that we touch will glow yellow now. But why did our weapons glow when we touched them? They are not dead, are they?

But how can a weapon be dead if it never was living at all?

Before anymore thoughts enter my mind, I freeze when I hear sounds of crackling grass from behind us.

And we are not moving.
