Chapter 23: Whoops
(Un-edited)
You blinked slow. With every flick of the eye, the more Jimin undressed near the foot of the bed.
"Leaving so early?" you asked, watching him start to put on new clothing for the day ahead.
He sighed, nodding as he did his belt slowly, his muscles flexing at his arms as you watched his bare torso work. The one thing you loved was how shy he wasn't now. More comfortable with his body around you, that connection you admired the most. His comfort; sure, he was awkward and adorable still, but getting used to you being there in standards that were complicated, and more than friendship was starting to grow on him and you watched that epiphany flourish every day.
Soon enough, he'd be most comfortable with you and you couldn't wait to be back. You couldn't wait to be back to your body. Alive, breathing, laughing and smiling for the world to see as real. You wanted to touch him and feel him for real, talk to him and hear about his day in real. You wanted to be with him while alive and if things went well, maybe grow old together one day.
You laughed at your own thoughts. Let's not get too ahead of ourselves. First let's find a way back!
"I always leave now." He said with narrowed eyes. His smile was shy when seeing you crawl over in his shirt, never taking it off even though he had yours washed and ready to be given back.
Moving to the end, you wrapped your arms around his shoulders and brought him close. Your smile was adorable. "...and I always scold you for it."
Jimin stared at you close, his hands going to hesitantly hug you back. "It's sweet that you do, but no need to worry about me on a regular."
"You worry for me, I worry for you, that's how this works," You giggled out only to have your eyes widen playfully and purse your lips, "Whoops, that made it sound like we were in some sort of committed relationship, my apologies." Jimin grinned at you amusingly slide that in.
His smirk was still shy and only Park Jimin could make such a smug expression look cute.
"We'll talk about that when you wake up, make it official."
You puckered your lips. "Why can't we make it official now?"
"It'll be a distraction from what we're trying to do," Jimin said with a chuckle, "Remember? You're a captive in a holding cell that needs to be taken out as soon as possible? If we stay this way and don't focus on what's important I might actually lose you before I even got the chance to have you."
You giggled. "So, you do want me?"
Jimin looked in disbelief but his smile was still constant. "From everything I just said, that's what you chose to comment on?"
"Mhm." You puckered your lips again, wanting a kiss.
Jimin laughed, slapping at your arms as he tried to escape and move back. You whined, and his eyes squinted at you playing up better cuteness when in comparison to Hoseok. Jimin smiled, leaning in to give you what you wanted. He kissed you sweetly.
"Alright you leech," he teased, trying to escape again, "Let me get dressed for work."
"Can't you just kiss me some more and head to work naked?" you asked, wiggling your brows. Jimin glared over at you but everything about him was just as playful.
"They've already seen me naked near a couch that they all chill on, I'm sure I wouldn't want to scare them off more by showing up to the building half dressed."
You laughed, hugging Jimin's shoulders tighter so he would've break away. He gave in, chuckling lightly to himself before hugging you back around the waists for a little longer more. But instead of kissing like how you had proposed, the two of you just talked in that position.
"They still not talking to you?"
Jimin sighed, "More like I'm barely talking to them. I leave without them these days."
"May I ask how you're planning on fixing the situation if you avoid them forever?" you challenged and Jimin pursed his lips.
"I was hoping that I'd avoid the confrontation until their memories magically erased." Jimin smiled when your eyes narrowed. He could feel the scolding of words circling within your mind. He shut you up before you could finish, patting your back with his hands that held you, "I'm kidding, I'm kidding...I'll speak to them soon. Just not yet okay? I've got my own pace with things."
"I can see that," you said, cooling down and getting flirtatious fast, "Took you long enough to say something to me."
"I technically haven't even fully said that I've liked you." Jimin challenged.
You shrugged, grinning, "But we both know you dooo~" You sang the last bit and Jimin's smile was shy again.
He nodded. You giggled before moving in to kiss him. He arched his head back, smile falling a little, "But I actually...I wanted to talk to you about something."
You noticed the sudden awkwardness and seriousness cloud his eyes and you stopped teasing and flirting, moving back so you could look at his face. Your arms were still around him, his arms never leaving you either. "What's wrong?" you asked softly, eyes softening at him nibble at his lip from nervousness as he collected his thoughts.
"At the fast rate we seem to be headed," Jimin started, smiling lightly as he fully let his mind come clean, "I thought I'd talk to you about some dreams of mine-" Jimin swallowed hard, "It's just I want you to hear from me first so Thing doesn't have leverage over me in any kind. Plus, I care about you and I don't want to see you insecure or hurt."
"You're scaring me," you breathed out, hands moving off his shoulders, "What's going on? What dreams?"
Jimin cleared his throat. "A few weeks ago," Jimin corrected himself, "Long long ago," he emphasized the 'long' and nervously smiled when you urged him to continue by wiggling your hand. He did, he continued, "I had a few inappropriate dreams about your friend...well, your ex."
You listened.
The fact that you didn't move or show emotion for a second made Jimin panic. "It was just one night. I found her really pretty and couldn't really control my mind, you know? I don't know, I guess I've just been feeling guilty ever since I've started to feel things for you and that one thought on my head has been holding me back."
You nodded slowly.
Jimin licked his lips slow, he watched you register the information.
"Do you have any sort of feelings for her?"
Jimin smiled at that. "Of course not," he laughed, "I found her pretty and I only ever saw her twice. I don't easily fall for a girl like that, there is more to it than just looks."
You nodded again. Now you seemed like a bobble-head, and that was usually Jimin's role.
Jimin sucked in a breath, "But yes, I needed that off my chest and mind if I'm about to thrown myself all-in for you." He smiled, making you look at his eyes with a tilt of his head.
You smiled but it was a little weak. Jimin rubbed your back, his expression worried. "You upset? Talk to me if you're upset."
You shook your head. "I'm not upset about you checking out my ex and getting wet dreams," you mumbled bored, "I'm just upset over what you've reminded me I've got to do today."
Jimin was confused. "Sorry?"
You looked him in the eyes. You were slightly amused but there was a part of you that wanted to cry over all that was ahead of you, all that you had planned for today. "Like you said, you want to clear things off your chest and mind before giving me your all...I know I'd love to do that myself." Jimin nodded. He was still confused.
You rolled your eyes over him not getting it. "Jimin," you piped, making him see the bigger picture, "She's my ex. You may have found her hot and thought a few dirty things but the bigger deal here is that of course, I've been attracted to her physically, but I've also loved her for who she's been. Instead of me being worried about you, you should be flipping shit and being worried about my ass getting swooped in with her again."
Jimin's eyes widened.
You patted his shoulder, smiling a little, "But I won't. I promise." He held you tighter on reflex and you laughed loudly, hugging his shoulders again. "Today is the day I go to the hospital and wash away all my past. I'll be coming back today to you a changed woman." Your voice was dramatic.
Jimin swallowed up his panic instantly when seeing the way you spoke. The fact that you were back to hugging him again was great and it eased every tense muscle in his body. "Just be careful okay? I want you back in the same way you leave...a little lighter however." His charming smile was back.
"I'm a little nervous."
"I'd imagine everyone would be...going to revisit all that you've been ignoring and bottling up is going to be hard," Jimin sighed, rubbing your back soothingly now. "But I believe in you. You know that I do, it's just the matter of you believing in yourself since you'll be alone for this process."
You smiled like a child.
Jimin's eyes were stern. "Say it."
"No." You giggled.
He tickled your sides and you quaked. It was such a disturbing sound that made you flush instantly but Jimin burst into laughter, finding it cute. "Say it," he simply warned again.
"I believe in myself," you whispered, and he cupped his ear. You rolled your eyes, smiling huge again before moving your lips to his ear and screaming, "I BELIEVE IN MYSELF!"
Jimin jumped back, rubbing his face's side and glaring over at you laughing and jumping over to hug him. He pats your back, wanting you to stop trying to crawl him like some monkey. He was strong as he brought you back to balancing on your knees.
"Alright, I really have to go or else I'll end up sharing the car with the others."
"Perfect, you just gave me a reason to stall more," you sang out, puckering for a kiss, "Now come, give Mama a kiss."
Jimin dodged your lips, really in a haste at this point. You played around and irritated him as you held his arms and tried to hug him again. Squealing at his ear when he plumped forward and fell on you, you waved your hair away from your eyes as you got back up and rushed for him putting on his shirt.
You snatched his shirt and put it behind your back. Your smile was evil but Jimin found it cute as he chuckled, his patience amazing in that moment as he scolded with his eyes. He reached one side of you, you clutched it in to the other hand. He reached the other side, you swapped again. "Y/N," he sighed out, hands moving to his hips. You giggled when he gave up and simply pulled your body to his again.
Pressing against him, he took the shirt from behind him. "I'm leaving," he said stern, "You go handle your day and keep me posted."
You stared at him, hand at his chest while the other held the shirt that he tried to wrestle away from you tight behind your back. "Sure thing," you purred, "But to have any of that, I need my good luck charm first."
Jimin stared over at you. "What is that?"
You let his shirt go and now he had full handle over it. His brows were caved in from confusion, but all came clear when your hands slipped down his body and over to his jeans that you undid. Giggling by his ear as you dipped your hand over his boxers, Jimin's eyes widened, he snorted from laughter as he moved his pelvis back completely with a run.
Separated from you that now sat with a playful pout on the end of the bed, Jimin shook his head, smiling to himself as he got into his shirt, did his pants up again and grabbed his bag that held the notes you provided and some books.
"But my good luck charm," you sighed out, seeing him scooting back and preparing for his day.
"You don't need me," Jimin said, brow arched. You rolled you eyes, "Right, I BELIEVE IN MYSELF!" You said the last bit loud and proudly, so he could smile. It worked. He chuckled, jogging over to you and pecking your temple before rushing towards the exit again.
"Remember," he piped, finger out.
You giggled at him checking down a mental list of what he should be saying as an anchor. You made his job easier and complied. Everything worked however, at first you would fake the repetition of phrases since it made you feel nothing. But now, it did. It made you feel stronger.
"I'm my own hero," you whispered causing a grinning Jimin to nod and jog out the bedroom door.
That phrase, the motivation, and the delight of what was to come was stuck in your mind as you changed into your shirt again. The tangible and visible fabric slowly grew to be a part of you again as it melted into invisibility quickly. You were ready, you were ready for your day in the hospital.
Walking down the halls and thinking about the mental state you were in, you felt empowered and strong. You were ready to face the possible problems and burdens that weighed at your shoulders alive or dead – today was the day to overcome all that you shoved deep into your mind.
Today was the day.
Today was the day.
With a smile on your face, you phased fast. Your strength and power allowed you to get to the place in a matter of seconds. In front of your hospital room's door you stood.
Today was the day.
Your hand reached the door knob.
Your lips were in a smile one minute, then they were parted in shock the next. You gasped, a hand that barely held a grip instantly yanking you to turn away from the door, so you were by the next wall, a distance to the entrance created by a sudden third party.
Your wide eyes met Jimin. But it wasn't him. It was him with a black hoodie, ripped jeans, tired and dark eyes that didn't seem to meet the description of his small ones. His eyes didn't look like his. He didn't look like himself, and in that moment, your back straightened and your eyes were angry. The individual before you wasn't Jimin, it was Thing.
"Not going to welcome me back?" Thing asked with a pathetic scratchy voice. No matter how weak it looked, Thing's smile was constant in any mood.
You smiled tightly. "I can see that you look terrible."
Thing's brow cocked. "We were never great at giving compliments when alive but, ouch. That hurt me." It leaned against the door you were about to open earlier, leaning on it to look more intimidating but you both knew it was because Thing was getting light-headed standing for too long.
You glanced at the door and then back at thing. Your smile was amused. "You knew what I was about to do huh?" you asked, alerts ringing in your head as you realized your theory was correct. This is what you were to do. "Not only did you make my job easier, you've become poor at doing your own at this point."
"I can barely stand," Thing said with a tired smirk, "Do you honestly think I have time to be mysterious anymore? Your anchors got you wrapped around his finger and that shouldn't be happening."
"He hasn't gotten me around his finger," you said with a smile, "He's got me in his heart and believes in me...makes me believe in myself more and more every day. He's getting greater at being an anchor every day and there is no way you'll win now. There is nothing you can say that will make me think negatively anymore."
"How about him not actually liking you?"
You grinned. "Not going to believe it."
"His obsession with beautiful lil' Iniko that will never compare when against you?" Thing tried with a grin.
You shook your head, smiling. "Nope, not affecting me."
Thing sighed, shaking its head, "I knew I should've spied on you two more. I've just been too busy."
"With laying and slowly rotting alone? Yes, I can see and smell you from here," your nose scrunched, making your amusement and cockiness clear.
"Sorry, I wasn't able to stroll in looking like a princess."
"You could've at least accepted loss and came in as your real form, I've seen you in your real form already," you cooed.
Thing smiled. It was genuine now. "You haven't seen me in my real form yet."
Your eyes narrowed, your smile not leaving me. "Right..."
Thing's smile was still there. "The black creature you saw me as that scared the shit out of you in the beginning wasn't my real form, if that's what you're bent on picturing."
"Whatever," you snapped, tired of talking when you could be doing more efficient things. Like working on being alive again!
"The point here is that I need you to move so I can finish the last stages in getting back," you walked towards Thing, warning with your hands for it to move before you hurt it. You were stronger than Thing was now, the light and brightness too strong for it to combat.
"You sure you want to go back?" Thing asked, still not moving as you threatened and stood right in front.
"Why would I not want to?" you asked, grinning huge. "I'll be back, and I'll know better, I'll be better. My life will change for the better and as a plus, I'll have a loving man at my side."
Thing laughed. It was pained at first but then it burst into laughter. All you saw was a sick looking Jimin laughing his ass off to the point he started to choke. Your smile faltered a little, but you kept yourself smug and together, "What?" you barked, jaw clenching and wanting answers.
"Oh you poor cutie," Thing chimed out, easing in laughter as it just smiled now. Thing looked a little more hopeful and confident and that didn't rub right with you suddenly. You didn't want to showcase being doubtful or scared but the slight quiver of your upper lip gave Thing the leverage as he continued, "You're clearly thinking of a fairy-tale here, now aren't you? Beat the bad guy-" Thing pointed at its chest, "Get the lungs to breathe again and then get the boy?" He pointed at Jimin's face he wore.
"What's so wrong in believing in the positive?" you asked, angry over Thing smiling huge.
It was Thing's turn to be cocky and you didn't understand where any of that was coming from.
"Well you see?" It started, smirking as it moved away from the door. Now you were really confused, Thing had become too confident. "Your thinking isn't going to get you anywhere but in a reality you aren't going to look forward to. Positive thinking does no good, you should know better."
Your teeth were together, your fists tight. "Stop trying to manipulate me with your words," you snapped, "Just say what you're trying to say and leave me alone."
Thing placed its hands up in defense. "Alright alright, wait a little for dramatic affect, shii-"
"I swear to-"
"Ah, don't say its name," Thing puckered in, grinning, "We both know that character doesn't exist."
You rolled your eyes. "Tell me now before I beat your ass. We both know I'll be able to get you in a chair again, but this time you won't ever be able to move an inch. Spill."
Thing smirked at your ego it could sense. It got excited to tear it down. Without warning, without sensitivity, Thing purred out the information that knocked your dreams far out the park of your mind...
"If your lover boy wins and has you alive," Thing began, ruthless, "The minute you wake and find consciousness, the world is back to being balanced from your shift. That means everyone forgets the events that took course during the 'holding cells' captivity. You won't remember anything that happened here – the last you'll know of is the concert and accident...and Jimin...well, he sure as hell won't remember you."
Your eyes watered. "What?" your voice was broken.
Thing chuckled. "Whoops," it popped, nose crinkling in, "Did I forget to mention that earlier?"

A/N: Yes. For those of you who have read 'Taehyung's Worst Nightmare' there is a parallel with this twist. I've done this deliberately though... *slowly eats nachos from a distance*
