Chapter Twenty-Two: Arguments and Arrangements
My katana shook in my hands as I ran out onto the street. I looked around, desperately trying to remember the way back home. It had been a long while before I had been back to my house because I had been staying at Ichigo's place for I don't even know how long.
"What the hell?" I shouted in frustration," I forgot the way back to my house. Musta been all that damn alcohol..." Before I could hit a light post with my katana, Hichigo's fingers wrapped around my wrist, pulling me back.
"Stop, Hikari," he said in a soothing voice," We need to stay calm. I know the way to your house, so don't worry. Hichigo shall save the day!" He jerked a thumb at his chest proudly, and I noticed how dashing he was. Then, I realized that I had never taken him to my house.
"How do you know the way?" I asked quizzically.
"Uh... um, I-I," he stuttered nervously, scratching the back of his head," It's a long story..." I raised my eyebrows skeptically, and I figured that he didn't want to tell me because he was embarrassed.
"You didn't come to... spy on me, did you?" I asked, my eyes widening in shock. Hichigo blushed profoundly and it seemed to almost glow in the noon lighting. I could tell that he was trying to hide something by the look on his face, and somehow, I knew he had done exactly that. When he tried to walk away, I grabbed his arm and yanked him back, pushing him against the post that I had previously tried to slice. "You did, didn't you?"
"Of course I did! And, I liked what I saw," Hichigo growled in a cute voice," Do you have a problem that I like to spy on cute girls like yourself?" My throat felt a little dry when he finished talking, and I began to wonder if he has spied on any other girls.
"Oh, well why are you wasting time with me? Go spy on some other girls," I hissed coldly, sheathing my katana and walking away from him. That idiot is seriously cheating on me!
Then, the question came to my mind if we were really together or not. Were we a couple, or were we just together? It funny, because I had never questioned it before now, when I felt as though he was cheating on me with another girl. Before I could unleash my rage, I felt his arm grip my shoulder.
"That's not what I meant... I..." he began, but I shrugged him off.
"Whatever. Let's go and kill these stupid FinalBringers," I grunted, refusing to meet his eyes. Hichigo took the lead, and I followed him with my arms crossed indifferently.
-----
A FinalBringer foot soldier cried out in pain as my katana dug deep into his shoulder, and his blood coated the elegant black blade. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see my mother lying in a bloody heap on the ground. She had multiple stab wounds that had pierced through her armor, but none of them were in any vital areas. Thank God for that, but currently I was engaged with a small group of foot soldiers.
They were easy to beat, but there were so many of them, that it was becoming difficult to keep a guarded stance. I swiftly dodged as one of them aimed a sword blow at my right side, and I winced when the fabric tore my shirt. A thin line of blood trickled down my side and dripped onto my blue jeans.
Three of the soldiers rushed in at once, all swing at my upper body, so I ducked and swung my sword in a large arch, cutting each of them across the chest. They all stumbled backwards and clutched at the cut across their chest, frantically trying to staunch the bleeding.
Hichigo stood behind me, most likely in awe of my combat skills that I had acquired over the past few days of training with my mother. I turned to look at him long enough to see an expression of horror cross his face before I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. When I looked down, my vision blurred with tears of pain.
There was a blade protruding from my stomach, and my blood splattered to the ground. Arms draped in black armor wrapped around my waist, but I didn't get to see much more before I blacked out. My last thought was pleading with fate to let me have another chance so I could apologize to Hichigo, but my life seemed to slip away from me too fast for me to hold onto it.
