Chapter Five: Jealousy(?)

It has been almost a month since I figured out the truth behind this whole situation. I don't know if it will affect me, but so far it hasn't. Everything between Moku and I has been normal, even though he was worried about me after the Hollow 'incident'. As far as everyone else is concerned, I am an average teenage girl trying to finish up he last year of high school.

"Congratulations, Miss Miyasaki!" Mr.Kitubo, my last hour teacher, said as he handed me my exam. "One-hundred percent, as always!"

One of the girls in front of Moku snorted and mumbled something under her breath that I didn't quite catch. Her name was Yui Kotowara, and I knew that she had never been very fond of me. In my opinion, she was jealous because of my close relationship with Moku.

"Don't talk about Hikari like that," Moku said sternly.

"Whatever, you are just infatuated with her. You couldn't really have standards that low, Moku," Yui said as she ruffled his hair," You're too good for her." Moku's face flushed with anger and embarrassment, and he shoved her hand away from him.

"Miss Kotowara!" Mr.Kitubo snapped," Turn around and leave Mister Moku alone!"
Yui crossed her arms defiantly and turned around in her seat to face the front.

Moku looked back at me, still blushing. I never knew that he had feelings for me, and to be honest, I didn't know how to react. Instead of responding, I smiled and he smiled back. I blushed and looked away, and Moku did the same.

I felt cold eyes staring through me, and I saw Hichigo sneak up beside me. He trained his golden eyes on me and raised an arched eyebrow.

"First crush, eh?" Hichigo frowning at Moku. I signaled for Hichigo to come closer, because I didn't want to talk too loud.

Hichigo doesn't talk to me much during class, so I haven't had to talk back. I can hear him, but nobody else can. When I talk, everybody can hear me, so it is hard to talk to him without people thinking that you are mumbling to yourself. Which kinda makes you look like you need to be put in a mental hospital.

Hichigo moved closer to me, so close that my lips brushed against his hair. To my surprise, his hair was softer than it looked. I pushed the thought out of mind. That doesn't matter.

"Why do you want to know?" I whispered. Moku looked back at me, but he knew who I was talking to, so I didn't have to explain.

"I don't care about you and your little crush," Hichigo said defensively, and he crossed his arms. He leaned closer to me once again so I could talk.

"I never said that you did," I whispered. Hichigo straightened up and glared at me. He growled and turned away from me, sitting back in his desk.

"I'm not talking to you anymore, Hikari," Hichigo said indifferently. I had to hold in a laugh when I remembered that I was still in class.

"Fine by me," I mumbled under my breath. I nearly jumped five feet in the air when the bell rang. My classmates began to file out of the door, and when Yui tried to leave the classroom, Mr.Kitubo called out to her.

"Miss Kotowara, stay in here for a moment. I need to have a talk with you about disrupting class," he said. Yui leaned against a desk and glared at me as I walked out of the classroom. Why does she hate me so much?

"Damn, she really hates you," Hichigo whispered into my ear. His breath was surprisingly warm, but I shivered nonetheless.

"What's there to like?" I asked aloud, and a few heads turned to me. I smiled, and they looked away. Some people are extremely nosey, and it pisses me off. Moku ran up to me, and I felt his shoulder brush against mine as he walked.

"Have you seen yourself? You are the cutest girl in your class," Hichigo said in disbelief," You are nice, and you know how to kick some ass when it comes down to it!"

I didn't know I was a girl, I thought I was a chick," I whispered into his ear, thinking back to what he had said a while back. Hichigo recoiled from me, and I saw the obvious blush on his face. Moku stared at me, and I guessed he thought I was talking to him.

"What was that?" Moku asked, his brow furrowing. He was going to walk me home, like he does everyday. Moku is rather sweet, and I appreciated him walking me home.

"Nothing, it's just Hichigo again," I said. Moku pointed beside me, right at Hichigo. Hichigo moved away from where he was and he stood behind Moku.

"Is he right there?" Moku asked. Hichigo stuck out his tongue at Moku, and looked at me, expecting approval. I scowled, and Hichigo placed a hand to Moku's neck.

"He is behind you," I said with a laugh. Moku shivered at the touch of Hichigo's hand. "He just touched the back of your neck," I explained.

"No wonder I got the chills," Moku said," What does he think about me?"

"I think you are a pretty boy who should get a life," Hichigo snarled. I'm not going to tell Moku that, so I made something up off the top of my head.

"He says that you seem like a nice boy," I said, and Hichigo fixed me with a cold stare. Moku raised an eyebrow in suspicion, and I gave him a sorry smile. He knows that Hichigo didn't say that, I don't know how, but he does.

"What the hell? That's not what I said," Hichigo said," Tell him that if he lays a hand on you, I will kill him."

"He said that if you lay a hand on me, that he will kill you," I said, and Moku flinched. I wonder if he is going to avoid me after this conversation. No, Moku wouldn't do that.

Instead of recoiling, he grabbed my hand and pulled me against him. I blushed when his green eyes met mine, and he tucked a strand of brown hair behind my ear. My heat beat inside my chest furiously and he leaned towards me. I could feel his warm breaths against my reddened face.

"Then I guess I will just have to take my chances," Moku whispered sweetly and kissed my cheek. He just kissed my cheek. Oh my God! My heart jumped into my throat, and I was at a loss for words.

When my head cleared, I noticed that we were at my house. I thanked Moku for walking me home, and he departed. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Hichigo standing. He looked like he was in a daze, and for a split second I saw hurt in his golden eyes, but they hardened quickly.

"What's wrong," I asked in concern. Hichigo has been acting funny lately, and I didn't understand why. Hichigo just shook his head and balled his hands into fists. His lower lip trembled slightly, but he bit it to keep it still.

"You wouldn't understand," he stared at the ground, turned around, and ran.

-----

The next day, I went to school, and Hichigo wasn't there. The following day, he was a no-show once again. For the next week, it was all the same. What had happened to him?

"Where's Hichigo?" Moku asked during our first class," It's been almost two weeks." I stood up and slammed my hand on my desk, raising my other into the air.

"I'm going to find out," I said determinedly.
