Chapter 11- The Not-So Great Chase
Zim struggled to control Gir. You watched as the dog tried running in every other direction that wasn't straight, pulling at the leash and Zim's flimsy arm with it.
"GIR! We need to get home! I do NOT appreciate you wasting time running around!" Zim scolded.
You and Zim continued walking home from the park. It was a struggle in itself to get Gir to leave, AND barf up that squirrel. Now if only you could just get him back home.
You and Zim chose to leave after noticing the sun was starting to set. You took note of how fast the sun came down now that it was fall. You also took note of the cold breeze that crept in with the darkening sky. As the night grew closer, the colder and colder it got. The crisp air nipping at you cheeks and nose, making them rosy and numb. You looked up at the crooked trees to see red, orange, and yellow leaves slowly falling and creating piles on the ground. It was tempting to jump into one, and you knew you would've if you weren't so cold.
You both managed to get halfway down the next street when all of a sudden you heard rustling in some bushes behind you.
Probably just a squirrel, you thought.
But then you heard the rustling again. This time you knew it wasn't a squirrel because it practically made the whole bush move.
You turned and slowly walked towards it to investigate.
"Who's there!" You yelled hoping you could scare whatever it was away.
Zim stopped walking and turned to see what the commotion was about.
That's when you noticed a slick piece of hair sticking out of the leaves.
You knew that overly-gelled hair anywhere.
"Dib get out of there. You have the worst sneaking skills I've ever seen."
"Oh come on." The bush whined with a sigh.
Dib crawled out from the bush and stood himself up on the sidewalk, brushing off a few straggling leaves from his coat.
Zim laughed.
"HA! foolish Dib! Foiled again by my-"
You gave Zim a death glare.
"I mean Y/N's genius."
"Oh yeah!" Dib said with a grin, "Well I bet your genius couldn't catch this!" He dramatically pulled a small black gun out of his coat and pointed it at Zim.
"What the heck Dib! What are you a school shooter now!?" You said with a gasp.
"What?! NO! This is a highly advanced alien stun gun. It's like a taser but it only works on extraterrestrial life forms."
"Dib give it up. Just admit some dude on the dark web scammed you for a crappy toy."
"...
Well yeah I got it off the dark web,
BUT IT'S NOT A TOY! And I have the perfect way to prove it."
With that he pressed a button on the side and pulled the trigger. Four yellow wires shot out from the chamber and stuck on to Zim, shocking him instantly.
Zim's body tensed and straightened as the bright turquoise glow of electricity surrounded him and lit up the surrounding area. After a few seconds, the shocking stopped and the wires swiftly retracted, leaving Zim to quickly fall flat onto his back, completely knocked out.
"I'M FREEEEEEEEE!!!" Gir cried as he pulled the leash from Zim's hand and crazily ran off down the road.
"HEY! YOU KILLED MY FRIEND!" You yelled pointing at Zim's motionless body.
"Oh relax, your alien's not dead he's just...resting"
"Well if you don't fix him RIGHT NOW you'll be next!" You threatened, bringing a clenched fist to his face.
"Ok ok! Just calm down and-"
"NO! I won't calm down! My plan was working out perfectly! Then YOU had to come and completely ruin everything!"
"Plan? What plan?"
"MY PLAN. To spend some time with Zim for at least a second without having to stop you and your annoying antics! Everything was going perfectly. Zim and I peacefully frolicking around the park, laughing, smiling. I even got him to say thank you!"
"Wait you got Zim to say thank you?! He never says thank you!"
"Yeah exactly!"
Dib guiltily looked at Zim.
"Yeesh, I kinda feel bad. I mean, I didn't mean to interrupt and- WAIT A MINUTE! No I don't, he's an alien! Look I'm sorry Y/N, but this is for your own good."
"Dib, dont you-"
Dib quickly leaped past you and picked up Zim, and started to dash down the street.
"GIVE BACK MY GREEN BOY YOU NERD!" You screamed, and you sprinted after him.
You ran as fast as you could, tailing Dib through the streets of your town. The sky completely darkened now, filled with murky clouds covering any light from the moon and stars. The street lamps switched on, giving an ominous glow to the streets.
Dib kept running, then quickly dipped down another street. You followed suit.
"Dib I swear, if you cut up my friend I'll make Gir eat you! Trust me he'll do it!"
"Then at least I would have saved the planet first! Hey, they might even name a school after me!"
You both kept running. Dodging and jumping around parked cars and stop signs. You soon noticed him slowing a bit, and took the opportunity to catch up to him. You pushed your legs to go faster making your muscles burn. You slowly gained on him, his fluttering black trench coat now almost in arms reach. Dib soon noticed your close presence.
"Hey how did you get behind me so fast!"
"Let's just say I had some good training from chasing a certain someone around the park!"
"What does that even mean?" Dib asked, but without an answer you pounced on top of him, making him drop to the ground and lose grip of Zim. Zim went tumbling forward, rolling flat onto his face, still unconscious as he laid on the pavement.
You pinned Dib down as he tried to push and squirm from under you.
"Got you, you big headed marshmallow!"
"You-You're crazy!" Dib protested.
"Yeah I know, your point?"
You looked up to see Zim's body just ahead. You had to get to him and get the heck home.
You pushed yourself forward off of Dib and bolted towards Zim. You quickly picked him up bridal style and observed him. His gloves and the edges of his shirt were slightly torn, and you noticed a bleeding gash on the side of his forehead.
"Don't worry, I'll get you all fixed up once I get you to your house."
"NYAAAAA!!"
You heard from behind you. Dib tried to grab you, but you quickly moved out of reach and ran. Dib shakily got himself up and ran after you, continuing the chase.
You were getting tired which made your run slowly turn into more of a jog. Your heart was now racing and your breaths deep. You looked to your side and saw an alley ahead between two buildings and thought it could be a good short cut to lose Dib. Unfortunately once you ran into it, you quickly realized it was a dead end.
"Stop *huff* r-right there! *huff*" Dib puffed from behind you.
"Not that I have anywhere to go." You spouted back.
You turned to face him and took a few steps back, preparing to sprint again in case he tried to jump you.
"Look, Y/N, the last thing I want is for you to get hurt. *puff* I just want to save you, AND our ENTIRE PLANET from destruction."
"Pffft, I don't know Dib. From what I've seen there's not really much left worth saving. I'm starting to think Ms. Bitters is right, we're all doomed."
"Well, I'm going to be the one to save this planet with or without you. Now give me that alien!"
"Screw you!" You yelled, gripping Zim tighter in your arms.
"Oh Y/N. Don't tell me you STILL believe he's human. I mean, COME ON! His house, his 'parents', his dog?! The fact that he literally has no idea how to do anything! Just look at him Y/N! You've had to have noticed SOMETHING off after almost three weeks of hanging around him."
You did know. You knew everything. You saw the antenna, you noticed the robots he called his parents. Gir flipping talks! Which despite it all, he's still the most adorable thing you've ever seen. You always kinda knew, you just... never thought it could be possible. You never thought you could be lucky enough to meet a real alien, despite their intentions. This warped through your mind as Dib awaited some form of response, but you were way too exhausted to put it into words.
"Ehhrrm...
HEY! Look over there it's BIGFOOT!!" You yelled, dramatically pointing past Dib.
"You don't think I'm seriously going to fall for that do you?"
"... well it was worth a shot."
Wait, you thought, look at this dude's head. I just need to throw him slightly off balance and he'll tumble right over.
You looked down at the ground and saw a stick. You shimmied to the side and slowly bent down to grab it while still gripping onto Zim.
You quickly got it in your grasp and stood back up.
"And exactly what is that supposed to do?" Dib asked, crossing his arms.
"Yeet!" You tossed it at his head and as you planned, he lost his balance and fell right over, giving you your opportunity to jump over him and escape down the road.
"Gahh! Curse you giant head!" Dib pushed himself up to sit, and rubbed his head while looking down at the stick now on the ground beside him. He finished getting up, but by the time he stood, you were gone.
"I can't believe she threw a stick at me! And I can't believe it worked! I'm going have to come up with a better excuse for this bruise though, or else Gaz is gonna tease me about this for weeks."
