Chapter 58: Arrosa's Departure

3rd Person's POV

Arrosa sat on top of the hill that was not too far from Kaede's village. She stared out over the land and saw children playing with each other and being merry. The 16-year old sighed as she looked at the children.

Oh how she longed to be a child again. Then that would mean she would be with her Mother again. Her Mother would hold Arrosa in her arms and tell her how much she loved her and would protect her.

Mother, why did you have to depart from this world? Arrosa thought.

She was up on the hill for a reason you know; she had told Inuyasha her story and he...well, kinda freaked. Well what would you expect him to do when he found out his former lover and his sworn enemy had...created a child?! Of course he was gonna freak!

Now she felt that Inuyasha was seeing her as a different person. She felt that Inuyasha either saw her as Kikyo's daughter or Naraku's daughter.

Just as Arrosa was thinking, Izayoi walked up the mountain to talk to her. She knew that her Dad had made things uncomfortable for Arrosa and wanted to check on the other half-demon, half-priestess.  I hope Arrosa will be all right, she thought as she walked up to Arrosa.

Before Izayoi was even close to Arrosa, the girl spoke to Izayoi; "Why are you here?"

"Well I just came to check on you Arrosa," Izayoi answered. "Plus you missed dinner." Izayoi sat next to Arrosa and then handed her a cup of instant ramen. "I couldn't let you go hungry tonight."

Arrosa gave Izayoi a small smile as she took the cup out of Izayoi's hand. "Thank you," she thanked.

Izayoi smiled back at Arrosa. She had come a long way from being the mysterious girl she once was to being at least somewhat social. "So about Papa-"

"I understand where he was coming from. He feels a little betrayed."

Izayoi raised an eyebrow in confusion. "What are you talking about? Why would he feel betrayed? What did you do wrong?"

"Not by me Izayoi; by my Mother."

"You mean because of what Naraku did to her? But she didn't do it on purpose! She probably didn't even want him anywhere near her!"

"Doesn't matter," Arrosa turned her attention to the sky. "It wasn't the first time that it had happened to Inuyasha. It also happened to him when Onigumo was alive and my Mother was taking care of him in the cave. If she had not kept that secret from him, then they both wouldn't have betrayed each other. They both would've been happy...and I wouldn't have been born.

"Now here I am; a reminder of Inuyasha's lover who died all because of a lustful man's heart."

"Arrosa, I know you don't think that your existence doesn't matter, but it does. Yes what Naraku did to your Mother was horrible, but from that, you were born. And you were your Mother's pride and joy, otherwise she wouldn't have given her life to protect you."

Arrosa gripped the grass in aggravation as tears gathered in her eyes. "Don't you get it you fool?! If I hadn't been born, then my Mother wouldn't have died!" Arrosa cried. "No, if she had just told Inuyasha about that bandit, then no one would've had to die that day!"

"Arrosa I-"

Arrosa turned to glare at Izayoi. "Don't say it!" She growled.

"Say what?" Izayoi dumbfoundedly asked.

"Don't say you know how I feel! No one knows how I feel! The only person who understood me was Mother, and she's gone!"

The tears increased as Arrosa glared Izayoi down. Izayoi could only stare simpathticaly at Arrosa. She didn't know how to help Arrosa feel better.

The pristess then ran past Izayoi and back towards the village. "Arrosa," Izayoi sighed as she watched Arrosa run from her.

Later that day, as everyone else slept, Arrosa went to Kikyo's grave. She looked at it, as if she were hoping her Mother would rise from the soil and comfort her. "Mother, what do I do?" She asked the grave. "Please, give me a sign that you are listening."

That's when Arrosa felt something wrap around her body. She looked down to see a soul collector that her Mother had used wrapping around her waist. The soul collector then flew towards the forest, beckoning Arrosa to follow her. Arrosa did and followed the creature.

It soon stopped in front of the tree along with other soul collectors. Arrosa stared in awe as a light emitted from the demons. She then heard a familiar voice; "Arrosa."

"M-Mother?" She stuttered as Kikyo's voice emitted from the light.
"You must journey away from the group," Kikyo's voice instructed. "You must do so in order to learn how to destroy Naraku and the jewel for good."

Arrosa nodded. "Yes Mother."

"Be brave my child." With that, the soul collectors vanished.

**********

Sunrise was fastly approaching and Arrosa had just finished packing for her journey. She looked back at the people in the hut one last time before sneaking out. As she walked away, there were moments when she wanted to turn around.

Just as she was on the outskirts of the village, Arrosa heard some footsteps behind her. She stopped and turned to see Izayoi running towards her. "Arrosa! Wait!" She called out as she chased after the priestess.

Arrosa stopped when she saw Izayoi running towards her and waited for the girl to catch up. "Arrosa, where are you going?" Izayoi huffed, trying to catch her breath.

"I have to leave," Arrosa replied. "It's the only way to find out how to truly destroy Naraku and find the jewel."

Izayoi could only stare at Arrosa. "So you'd leave without telling us?" Now Arrosa was the one staring. "We're your friends. We want to make sure that you're okay."

Arrosa gasped. "You mean, you don't mind me leaving?"

"Of course I do. But if this is what it takes to find a way to destroy Naraku, then go for it! Just promise me one thing," Izayoi placed a hand on Arrosa's shoulder and looked her directly in the eye. "Promise me, that you'll come back so we can fight Naraku together."

Arrosa smiled at Izayoi before nodding. "I will." Without another word, Arrosa set off on her quest.
