Chapter 47: Kayuma's Jealousy and Ayuma's Love

3rd Person's POV

Izayoi and Arrosa were knocked back by the prey mantis demon's claw and into a tree. "You pathetic mortals," the prey mantis spoke. "Who are you to believe that you can defeat me?"

"We'll see about that," Mochigo said, running up to the prey mantis with his staff and sacred sutras in his hands. He threw three of the sutras at the demon but they dissolved before they could attach themselves to the demon. The mantis then smacked Mochigo into a tree as well.

"Mochigo!" Ayuma and Kayuma cried out when they saw their brother smacked into the tree.

"Ready Kayuma?" Ayuma asked her twin.

Kayuma nodded. "Ready Ayuma," Kayuma replied.

The two, twin demon slayers ran towards the demon, one with a blade, and the other with a large boomerang. Ayuma threw her sword at the mantis' heart and then Kayuma threw the boomerang right at the demon, slicing it in half. The demon disintegrated after the boomerang sailed right back to Kayuma's hand.

"There," Kayuma stated. "We got the demon."

That's when a large clapping was heard. The two looked to see that several villagers had gathered to watch the destruction of the demon. "It seems we have an audience," Ayuma said.

"Thank you so much for destroying that demon my dear," the village leader told Ayuma, completely ignoring Kayuma and the others.

"But I didn't do it on my own. I had help from-"

"Your helpers!" the village leader finished. "After all, the great demon slayer Ayuma needs help every now and again."

"The great demon slayer Ayuma?" Izayoi questioned.

"Come on now demon slayer. We shall have a feast in your honor." The villagers began to thank Ayuma, who tried to explain that she wasn't the hero.

"Hey, what about us?" Shippo asked.

"It's not like you did much," Mochigo mumbled.

Kayuma sighed. Her sister seemed to have overshadowed her, again.

Kayuma watched as the villagers seemed to gather around Ayuma, like moths to a flame, and kept asking her all these questions.

"This is stupid," Izayoi complained. "Why is Ayuma getting all the credit? We helped."

"Ayuma's just well known in demon slaying," Mochigo answered. "It's her skills with a sword that makes her so famous."

"I see," Arrosa said, taking a sip of her tea.

Kayuma sighed. Why am I always forgotten? she thought.

Ever since they were kids, Kayuma felt as if she were overshadowed by her older twin sister. Her sister seemed to be better at everything.

Flashback

5-year old Ayuma threw a dagger at the target, hitting it right in the center. "Very good Ayuma," Sango commented. "You are becoming really good at this."

"Thank you Mother," Ayuma replied, smiling at her Mother for the compliment.

Kayuma became nervous and tried to gulp it down. She knew the pressure was on her to make a bulls-eye. Her hands shook as she threw the dagger, hitting outside the bulls-eye. "Good try Kayuma," Sango told her child. "Better luck next time."

Kayuma sighed.

End of Flashback

Now the 15-year old was watching as her sister seemed to get all the glory for something they did as a team.

Later that night, as everyone slept, Kayuma was still awake, trying to fall asleep. Yet there was a feeling in her stomach that wouldn't go away. Why can't I sleep? Kayuma thought. Wait, am I....jealous? I can't be. I mean, it's not like I hate Ayuma.

Not far away, a demon sorceress smirked as she listened to Kayuma's thoughts. "Jealousy is a very great emotion to manipulate," she thought.

She whispered a spell into the wind and watched as it went towards the hut. It went into Kayuma's eyes and caused her to fall asleep. As she dreamed, Kayuma saw her Mother's back facing her. "Mother?" Kayuma asked, walking towards her.

Sango didn't say a word as she began walking away. Kayuma tried to go after her but she was restrained by chains that suddenly held her by her arms and legs. Then Sango said something that nearly broke Kayuma's heart; "You'll never be as good as your sister."

Kayuma felt her heart shatter when she heard her Mother say that. tears gathered in her eyes. "Mother," she sobbed. "How could you say that?"

Sango just ignored her daughter and just walked away until she disappeared. Kayuma dropped to her knees and continued to sob.

As she did, the demon sorceress appeared with her long, blue hair and green eyes. She knelt next to the crying girl and began rubbing her back. "Poor girl," she spoke. "Overshadowed by an older sibling."

Kayuma looked up to see the demon sorceress and became confused. "Who are you?" she asked, trying to wipe her tears.

"Don't be scared child," the sorceress told Kayuma, placing a hand to her cheek. "I just want to help you."

"Help me? Why?"

"Because I know you're pain. I know how it feels to be overshadowed by an older siblings, and I will help you."

With that, the demon sorceress placed a finger to Kayuma's forehead, causing the girl's pupils to disappear so her eyes were just brown, no pupils.

From the real world, Kayuma woke-up with no pupils at all. She looked over at her sleeping sister and then grabbed her boomerang. She was about to hit her sister when Ayuma woke-up to see her sister about to attack her. Ayuma quickly rolled out of the way before her sister could hit her.

"Kayuma?! What are you doing?!" Ayuma frantically asked.

Her sister didn't reply as she went to try and attack her again. Ayuma moved again and ran out the door with her sword strapped to her hip. As she ran out, Kilala woke-up along with the others to see Ayuma fighting Kayuma.

"Kayuma? Ayuma? Why are you two fighting each other?" Izayoi asked.

"I'm not really sure," Ayuma replied. "But something is not right."

That's when everyone heard a laugh from the trees. They all looked to see the sorceress coming down from the trees. "Who are you?" Mochigo asked.

"She the demon sorceress Ume," Arrosa answered. "She's a very strong sorceress."

"Correct," Ume said, walking over to Kayuma. Kayuma immediately stood at attention, like an obidient soldier. "And I was just helping poor Kayuma."

"Helping? How are you helping her?!" Iziyaoi yelled.

"The poor girl has felt nothing but jealousy towards her sister, feeling as though she could never be as good as her sister."

Ayuma looked at her sister with surprise. "Kayuma? You're jealous?" Ayuma questioned.

Suddenly a barrier was put up that trapped Ayuma, Kayuma and Ume inside. The others tried to break down the barrier but were unable to.

"It's too strong, we can't break the barrier." Arrosa said.

"The girl has felt nothing but bitterness about how she's been forgotten. Kayuma thought, that you and her were a team." Ume explained.

"But we are," Ayuma replied. "Kayuma, sometimes I feel as if you overshadow me! You're so much smarter than me. And you have such a big heart. I feel so jealous of you sometimes. But, everyone gets jealous." Ayuma then looked at Ume. "If you think I'll fight my sister then you're wrong."

"Fine," Ume sighed. "Kayuma, finish her off."

Kayuma charged Ayuma with her boomerang and Ayuma blocked it with her blade. The two had each other move for move and weren't letting up. Kayuma's boomerang was knocked from her hands but she pulled out a secret knife hidden in her pocket, slicing at Ayuma. She gave her older sister a big scratch on her cheek that sent some blood down Ayuma's cheek.

Soon, Kayuma had Ayuma pinned to the ground. "Go ahead," Ayuma muttered. Kayuma just stared at her sister, not an inch of emotion on her face. Ayuma still looked at her sister. "I love my sister too much to attack her."

Kayuma's hand began to shake violently, as if she couldn't control her emotions. Tears gathered into her eyes as she looked at Ayuma. "A-A-Ayuma...." she cried.

"Kayuma, we're a team," Ayuma spoke.

The knife dropped from Kayuma's hand and her pupils returned to her eyes. "And we'll always be a team." Kayuma helped her sister up and then hugged her, crying into Ayuma's shoulder. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."

"It's all right Kayuma. I'm not mad."

Ume growled. "No! You should be fighting each other!" Ume yelled.

Her guard dropped and so did the barrier. As soon as it did, Iziyaoi and Arrosa fired sacred arrows right at Ume, causing her to disintegrate. When she was gone, Mochigo ran right up to his sisters and hugged them. "Thank goodness you're both safe," Mochigo said.

************************************

The morning soon came and the group had set out on their way. Ayuma and Kayuma seemed extra close though as they walked. They both talked to each other and would laugh every now and again. The others watched and smiled to themselves when they saw how happy the twins were.

"Kayuma, I just want you to know that we'll always be a team, okay?" Ayuma verified.

Kayuma nodded. "I know," Kayuma replied. "And we'll always be sisters. That's more important than anything."

I just had to do a little sister chapter. I felt the need to do something on sisterly bonds. As always, please vote, comment, and spread the word on this story. Thanks you guys!
