ooo.                     THERE'S A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ANGER AND FURY. A fine line, but a distinction nevertheless. Anger is easy to come and easy to go, fleeting, almost cathartic. When young, innocent Mara Cayden is asked the question: do you show your rage to the world?, she invariably answers no. The system is harsh, and it's best she does as little as possible to provoke them; what other option is there but to keep her head down? She must keep wearing the mask of being fine, absolutely fine, even if her body burns from hunger and she's haunted by dreams of ghosts long dead.

                    So she is quiet, submissive. The Peacekeeper baton is more than enough threat to make sure she stays silent and stays working. Anger settles over time to become resentment. Clenched fists, dark gaze, permanent scowl. In a sense, she already knows she's damaged, and not just in her bruises that don't fade for weeks, bones that feel ready to break. A heart of glass, too ready to shatter, guarded by a mind of stone. After all, she lives in District Eleven, where the people have been angry for a long, long time.

                    Anger is loud, reckless. Fury is silent, cunning. A wave of simmering, boiling calm; hot and cold and burning all at once. Anger is fist, fury is a knife ─── so much more precise, so much more deadly. So much more destructive.

Enter FINNICK ODAIR:

ooo.                     WHO DECIDES WHEN WE DIE? Finnick's life is not his own, and neither is his death. The answer is, of course, the higher up; the one above. He thinks of it like a pyramid; he was once at the bottom, among the most common and expendable creatures. Obviously, he was the worker ant, and above him was the Peacekeeper ─── the spider, if you will ─── who preys on him for its own survival. But then he wins the games, and finds there is a new higher up to keep him in check. A new arena to fight in.

                    Finnick learns very quickly that it is other people who choose things for him. What to wear, who to talk with, what to say. They'll decide how he dies. And he learns that at the very top, the highest of the untouchables, there is the puppeteer. The one with far too much power for merely one man. Somebody cannot be President for fifty years by being a moral one. Before every screen in Panem he sits, the boy, the man, the god; Coriolanus Snow.

                    Every move is cruelly, carefully calculated. A sort of brilliance to the way he makes Finnick suffer. He seethes, observes, but there is little more to than what's ordained, and collect secrets along the way. 

Exodus:

ooo.                     EVERYTHING WILL BURN. It is inevitable, beautiful, heart-breaking. No matter how the heroes and villains try to cling on to the present, it will all eventually crumble. There's almost a sense of comfort to this undeniable, inescapable law; no boy playing god will ever truly cheat death and live forever, just as all empires fall and children are snatched away too soon. They will burn, and Mara cannot just watch ─── she will help feed the flames, somehow. Maybe even throw herself into them.

                    She too, has died piece by piece ─── chipped steadily away as the tide slowly rises ─── she can only hope to survive the poisoned water and not lose more than her childhood in the process. Still, she quietly mourns the death of her innocence, her simple happiness.

                    But, she's got bigger problems than lamenting over what she's lost ─── she's got to fight in the Hunger Games!

INURED is set in the HUNGER GAMES universe, which is not
no way real or true. Using the timeline method ATT( AFTER
TREATY OF TREASON ), INURED takes place from 70 ATT to
76 ATT. There are FLASHBACKS & EVENTS MENTIONED that
take place at earlier dates, and the EPILOGUE is a few years
after.

004 ... misc!

hello everyone !! it think this is the third time rewriting inured
(someone make me finish it pls 🙏) and i swear this is the last
time (it's probably not). a quick update before rereading : a lot
of the plot has changed. act one remains mostly the same, but
there have been some amendments to the final chapter, which
i recommend reading but it's not necessary. most of act two as
you know it is gone, but there is so much more to expand on &
explore with some plot invented by your truly! if there are any
questions about what's been kept and what hasn't, just lmk !!

mara will forever be my first and favourite oc and she deserves
the world, but that doesn't mean she's an amazing person. she's
heavily shaped - and not in a good way - by the events that take
place in the book. some of her decisions are plainly selfish and
she tends to resort to cruelty/lashing out whenever she's in pain.
which is often. but she's trying, guys 🥺on that note, i've also
expanded a lot more on finnick's character, plot, and district - we
might even be visiting four at one point. we'll also be delving into
the capitol a lot more with this rewrite, and now that i finally have
sorted out the oc's for my other upcoming books, i can set those
up as well !

i've been prewriting since april, so i think i can properly promise
weekly updates for a while!! sort of wishing i'd done this the first
time i published inured - almost exactly two years ago - but hey,
learning how to do stuff takes time. the aesthetic is redone and
i'd recommend reading on the website as it always looks weird
on the app.
