Chapter 8.

Dedicated to Omokehinde_

AMETHYST

This annoying idiot! He is playing with my patience, slowly baiting me and waiting for me to snap. I know this game, I win anytime I play it and today is definitely not a day to lose.

His attention has been focused on his desktop ever since as he types furiously into his keyboard, creasing marks like Wi-Fi signs are seen on his forehead. I chuckle at the funny Wi-Fi joke, earning a glare from him. I thought he was so engrossed in his work and forgot I even sat there.

I watch as the time on my phone continues running till it is 1pm, Lunch break. My phone beeps and I look at it to see a message from Maya.

How is working with my brother?

Annoying as ever. He hasn't even assigned any task to me. I text back.

😂You'll get used to him. He's amazing too, just ignore his 'annoying side'. Her next message states.

It's even lunch time. Do you have any idea if there's a cafetaria here I could eat from? I ask her.

Of course, dummy🤦‍♀️. Ask for directions. It's mostly snacks, cereals and drinks. If you want food, there are some restaurants you could check out just outside the building by your right. She replies.

Thanks

Anytime. Enjoy your first day, sis in law😉. Don't do anything nasty💩

Seriously? Poo emoji?

You love me like that. Antio (bye).

"Amethyst." I hear him call from where he sat. I halt in my steps and turn back to meet his gaze.

"Your training for today begins after your lunch break." He states firmly.

"Rule number 1, never eat alone. Rule number 2, never be caught frowning." Someone says behind me and in a flash, a blonde haired beauty sits on the empty seat in front of me.

"Hi, I am Lauren." She smiles at me, seems I am about to make my first friend here.

"Amethyst." I send a tight-liped smile, back to her.

"I know you." She chuckles. "You are the CEOs wife. You are so lucky, alot of ladies would kill to be you, you know." She gives me a playful tap on my shoulders, winking at the statement. If only I knew what she meant.

"Did I just hit a nerve?" As if noticing my sullen expression, she says.

"It's nothing, really." I reassure her, more of reassuring myself. It is exhausting fighting with him but it is better than being in the position he places other ladies.

"In time, you will loosen up. Smile, you'll look prettier." I find myself smiling back at this stranger whose name happens to be Lauren.

"You see those ladies; Mandy and Jane. They are the office gossipmill CEO and COO. With them, one has to be very careful." She states after some time of us getting to know each other.

"Haha. Thanks for the warning. Oops, break is over. See you another time." I scurry off to Nick's office. My hand touches the door knob and I remember the incident earlier on.

Knock!Knock!

"Come in." He says with that his oh so sexy voice that I secretly swoon over.

"Hope you hve stocked up well. It is time for your training." He states.

Why on earth did I wear 6 inch heels? This question has been bugging me since. The work I did today was so hectic; he had me moving from floor to floor to complete tasks. It is either to fetch a file or to relay a message.

For heaven's sake he could have just called for someone to deliver the files to his office and also to pass across his message but no! Mr. CEO thinks it is better to relay 'important messages' as he calls them, face to face.

In between my runs, I could see him secretely smirking or trying to hold his laughter when he thinks I am not looking. Now, he says I must deliver his coffee every morning. He likes it black with only one cube of sugar.

You have hands! I really wanted to remind him as he barked the coffee order but it is an office and he is my boss here. Besides, I could also get myself a cup in the process so I will let that one slide.

I close my eyes trying to sleep but all my efforts didn't yield result. I am so exhausted and I need to rest for sometime so rest is what I did, clearing my head and relaxing.

After 15 minutes of rest, my stomach demons start to sing. I lazily get off the bed and after taking off the remaining pieces of clothing I had on, I find myself in the bath tub under the shower, cooling off today's hectic state.

After having my bath, I dress up in normal casual home clothes since I don't have anywhere to go. I do a once over at myself in the mirror and my mind wanders off to my mom, recalling how I was always dubbed as her replica.

I pick up my phone to dial her number and after a few rings, she answers the call.

"Hey, darling." She speaks with her sweet American accent. Mom is American while Dad is Greek. She has blended so much into the Greek norms that you would never guess that she is not of Greek origin.

"Hello, mother." I say in response.

"How is my baby doing?" She asks, I could hear the empathy in her voice.

"Well, I am fine." It is at the tip of my tongue to narrate how stressful today has been but I am still angry with her for staying mute when Father insisted on getting me married.

"Marriage has been doing fine since you all decided to ship me off." I lie through my teeth with disdain dripping off my voice.

"You don't speak that way. You don't understand; it was neccessary." She shoots back in defense.

"Neccessary? You call marrying your daughter off neccessary? Your only daughter?" The fact that she is trying to defend their decision is annoying. My stomach rumbles reminding me of my hungry state.

"I have got to go, bye." I say.

"Soon, my dear child, soon you will get to understand why that decision was taken. Take care." I end the call and run to the kitchen to see what Mrs. Brian has prepared.

NIKOLAS

"You needed to see her face, man. It was epic." I laugh as I clink wine glasses with André in his home.

"Careful, don't let Sophia ban you from her house." He says in a low tone.

"I heard you, Papi." She sings back. These two, I shake my head. Like they could hear each other's thoughts.

"Well, let me get going." I say, finishing off the last bits of my wine; Mosvatiko.

"Thanks for the food, Sophia." I say in a loud voice so she hears me well.

"You are welcome." She replies, matching the tone I spoke with.

Getting into my Lamborghini Veneno, I hit the ignition and head for my house. Arriving home, I head inside the house.

"She is already asleep." Mrs. Brian says looking at me with scrutiny. She has been my nanny since I could speak and the mother figure in my life as my mom passed away when I was young, few years after giving birth to Maya. Dad never remarried hence her taking care of us.

She taught me how to cook and take care of myself independently. It came in very handy when I was off in school.

"You want to eat now?" She asks. There is always space for her delicious food in my stomach. I reserve a special spot for it.

"Sure." I smile back in response. She walks into the kitchen and I take my seat on the dinning setup, waiting for the food.

She comes back, holding a tray. She drops the tray and opens the closed food. Cauliflower Fried Rice, how nice. I lick my lips in anticipation of its taste and I hear her chuckle.

"Your food makes me that way." I shrug.

"Is there something wrong, Child?" She asks.

"Nothing. Today was just hectic at the office. She started her training today." I reply.

"Well, alright." She shrugs and walks into the kitchen, returning with water, juice and a cup. She pours some juice into the cup and places it beside me.

This makes it her fourth week here and she has been catching up easily. This week she will be at the PD&P department so she will be off my radar for a while. I know she is so thrilled because back at home, I could hear her singing along to some music in the morning.

"Before you go there, I have a little task I want to assign to you. Please, sit." I say to the woman looking at me with scrutiny. And did I ever mention that she wears reading glasses? Hot.
I hand the document to her and she looks through it.

"Study it and develop a better business model." I state.

"Yes, Sir." She states, surprising me by smiling.

"May I take my leave now?" She asks.

"Sure." I reply her.
