Read preferably in Serif font. If not, it's a free world. (shows universal sign of surrender)
SYCUTP: There is no such word as 'arthropodic' in the English dictionary. However, quite fortunately, in poetry there is allowance to whip up nonsensical words.
However, the meaning I'd like for one to draw from it stems from the word 'arthropod' which is defined as an invertebrate of the phylum Arthropoda, having a segmented body (i.e. A body divided into many parts and sections) (eg. Insects and myriapods such as centipedes & millipedes), and an exoskeleton among many other trifling characteristics I will not trouble myself to include for they don't help the meaning it is to convey in the poem below. Man, that was a long sentence.

The comforting company
Of Lost souls
Is much more
Preferable
To him, that is
Rather than the suffocating presence
Of his wife
For one
Those that
are lost have Nowhere to call
Home
Whereas
those that
are everything but
Have somewhere to call home Where it is
painfully
Tense
And
unhappy
He
knew
The moment the first thirteen
weeks
were over
That their marriage
Did
Not
Stand a
Chance
Neither did their love,
For that matter,
Or whatever remaining shards of
cheap
iron
Unfairly dyed gold
For the cause
Of a marriage
That never saw
So much as
Three quarters of a year
A piece of metal,
that was quite
content
With its
Life
Before having to
change
for
The sake of
selfish
businessmen
Who'd seen nothing
but
Façade
All their humourless lives
If one even is
present
A marriage that was
Supported by lies
.
.
.
This is the only truth.
Marriage was merely,
A political,
Diplomatic,
Partiotic,
And morally wrong
Strategic move,
Like handing over a pawn
To a pack of wolves
In return for three more moves
In which more pawns were sacrificed
Until it all comes down
To the final gamble between kings
Which, no doubt, ended rather unfairly,
And was evaded easily
among the blurred lines concerning
Nepotism, or perhaps
Connections
That was their marriage
An opportunity presented itself,
For expansion
Through arthropodic lies and
heavy consciences
Through forgotten happiness,
And abandoned mass escapism
The birth of something clearly disheartening
The death of willful naïveté
This was their happy marriage
That was checkmated in less than a year
Not because of unhappiness
No.
A convenient marriage such as theirs could
Never have been
Brought to
Shambles
Because of something as
Silly as feelings
They could cheat on the other freely
There were no feelings intertwined
Therefore there was no guilt resting upon
Virtual suppressed and/or dead consciences
And the thing called morality
Had died with their life
For
though cheating and feelings could
Not bring apart their
Arrangement
T H E
G R E A T
E Q U A L I Z E R
never breaks its
vows
No matter how
corny,
Premeditated and
Hollow
It seemed
Death
always comes
around
And
in this
case
In the form of not an
angel
But a
child.
A child
no one
wanted.

I'm quite eager to hear,
care to share?
Seeing as this is my first Author's Note since the beginning of the book, I have a few questions to ask. I wouldn't usually do author's notes but this is one of my favourite poems I have written to date.
What do you think this poem means?
Taking into consideration the title of the chapter, the many metaphors used, the comparisons, and its shape.
You do realize the poem has a shape, yes? Or at least a few stanzas. Not all shapes help with the meaning however.
Hint : Don't try to pinpoint an image. Try to observe a pattern. What meaning am I trying to get across by having shorter lines for different sentences? What effect does this have on the mood?
And does anyone know of Tarot cards? I gave you guys a little hint in the poem as well.
Good luck!
You may leave messages on my profile page or in the comments. I doubt anyone has even read this, but nonetheless, I love writing poetry, so an absence of readers won't deter me from updating. And you can be a silent reader if you want, I really have no problem with that.
Sometimes we just really don't want to write anything.
I admit, I have done the same. But primarily because I was too lazy to :)
Music & Unwind,
ES ♥
