Coin Toss

The hill demands its bikers to beware
Unsuspecting children rush up
And shout as if they fell from air
Every bone in their body shatters
But to one brave soul
That didn't matter
For their skeletons were buried
Under the arid, unforgiving earth.

The boy grinned wide at the obstacle course
And challenged her to rise to the top
From his pocket he pulled a silver token of little value
It was confusing to her
Of all the pennies in the world
He chose this one
She didn't know what she would do
If this was the bet that she had "won".

She was heads
He was tails
The coin was tossed
And all hell broke loose
She had shivered from the heat
Of losing her mind she so wanted to keep
But she, fueled by his repetition of the weapon 'weak', decided to do it.

Clinging to her handles with newfound confidence
She gained momentum with each pedal
Turning away from every hedge like a true professional
And when she rode back
There was nothing in sight
Except for a red-faced boy lying on his tail.
