"On Valentine's Day of all days," Demetria sighed wistfully, and Millie rolled her eyes at the blatant theatrics going on in the library.
"It's not that big of a deal," she said. Only, she was lying, because confessing to Sirius was a huge deal. Confessing to Sirius meant opening her heart up to someone who could potentially break it.
After tossing and turning with anxiety all night, she finally realized what was troubling her: Sirius hadn't said it back.
Maybe he was insinuating it in the kiss, but Millie also knew that Sirius liked kissing in general. Maybe he was caught up in the moment.
Millie had never felt more open and vulnerable than right now. Her entire body tensed every time someone rounded the corner. Sirius could walk in any minute now, and if he acted like nothing had happened at all, Millie knew her heart would break tragically.
She sighed to herself. Who was being theatrical now? At this point she had already planned her escape route of running into the forbidden forest and becoming a hermit. At least then she wouldn't have to look stupid when Sirius laughed at her for thinking he liked her.
But maybe Sirius did like her. Maybe Millie was just overthinking everything, as always. Maybe she was expecting too much. After all, she only admitted to liking the boy. It's not like she confessed her undying love for him or anything.
But still, he was important to her, and Millie knew people she loved had a habit of disappointing her.
"I need some air," she whispered, scurrying out of the library and ignoring Demetria's shouts of protest.
She shouldn't have talked to Demetria about it. Now Demetria would tell Benji and Benji would certainly tell Sirius and that was a problem if Sirius didn't like Millie that much. He wouldn't want word getting out.
Millie pinched herself on her way to the Owlery. Things were so much simpler when she was the matchmaker and not the girl with a crush.
She skipped over the many bird droppings to find the small cubby where Benji's owl lived. There was a very special envelope she was hoping to receive, and judging by the pink stationary peaking out from under the barn owl, she was pretty sure she had finally gotten it.
She tore it open right there.
"Millie!!
It's Lucinda. Well, obviously it's Lucinda. No one else has such obnoxious envelopes.
Anyways, to the point!! It finally happened!! I went into labor last night and safely delivered a baby girl! I named her April and I'm enclosing a little picture of our family for you! I hope you'll hang it up in the common room so everyone can see (and maybe send me gifts haha!)
I thought you should get the first picture of her because you helped me more than you'll ever know. Me and Martin are forever grateful, and we can't wait for April to meet her Aunt Millie!!
Okay let me stop talking like a middle aged woman for a minute. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME GOSSIP! Doing my assignments at home for weeks has taken a toll on me! I don't even know the quidditch scores; call me a horrible captain!!
Also I might have to stop my schooling and wait until April's a bit older when I can come back while she's at daycare or something. Martin thinks we should find a flat in Hogsmeade, so that I won't have to give anything up. His parents are already helping us enough, and though I would never tell him this, I'm starting to feel like a burden on him and his family.
I want to do my part and get a job and take care of my baby as best as I can.
Okay! Enough of that! Please write me back soon and if you could spill as much gossip as you can, that'd be groovy.
Peace!
Lucinda"

"What's got you all smiley?" Regulus asked once Millie sat down for dinner.
"I don't know, maybe the fact that Lucinda had her baby!" Millie shouted, enjoying the gasps of excitement from the entire Slytherin table.
Soon the picture was being passed around, and every single student was kind-of sort-of melting in their seats at the sight of the wizarding world's newest addition.
Regulus grabbed the picture and hummed. "Do you think it'll be a Slytherin or a Hufflepuff?"
Avery grinned, catching on to his friend's plan. "Shall we make a bet?"
"Let me grab my picture before everyone starts throwing currency," Millie announced.
She knew Lily and Marlene would want to see the pictures, so she headed over to the Gryffindor table next.
-
Sirius bit his thumbnail. "Why hasn't she talked to me? Did my breath stink? Was I too embarrassing? Oh Merlin, she's embarrassed by me. I wonder if she's told my brother. Do you think she's told Regulus? Because I think I'm a better kisser than him, but of course I've never kissed him or myself so it's really just subjective—"
"Mate, stop bugging and just ask her. Look, she's walking over."
Sirius took Remus' words as somehow a code for "start panicking". He felt his hands clam up and his heart stop for just a moment. Why did Millie have such an effect on him?
"Look!" Millie held up a picture for them all to see. "Lucy had her baby!"
"No way! I love babies!" James leapt over Lily and snatched the picture out of Millie's hand. "This is by far the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life. I can't wait to have a baby. I want a boy and I want to name him James Junior."
"That's dumb," Lily said. "He should have his own unique name, something that makes him stand out. He shouldn't just be another boy named after his father."
"Well what name to you propose, love?" James propped his chin on the heel of his palm. His eyes practically glittered as he waited for her answer.
"I've always liked the name Harry," she said quietly, cheeks turning red.
"I like it!" James said. "So he'll be Harry James Potter!"
"You can't just steal the name I chose for my baby, Potter!"
"It won't be stealing if we share the kid," James kept his cheeky smile while holding the picture over his shoulder for someone else to take.
Millie sat beside Sirius as Remus and Peter examined the picture. "Hi."
Her voice was small, timid enough to make Sirius think that perhaps he wasn't the only one who felt a bit strange about the whole ordeal. He wondered if this was where Millie would tell him that he was just far too embarrassing and ugly and loud to date and she wanted to take back everything she told him last night.
Instead, she slipped her hand in his. "Is this okay."
Sirius couldn't keep the smile off his face as he answered. "This is more than okay."
