Chapter 52 - Everything is going well

Yibo jumped up and down excitedly. He clapped his hands and hugged Zhan with joy. After a year of searching in vain for a suitable home for themselves, they decided to simply have their dream house built. The first thing they had to do was find the right land for it. And where could they live safer from fans and reporters than in the family village?

They decided to buy the plot of land next to his parents' house. Since it belonged to his parents, they bought it from them cheaply and hired an architect to design their dream house for them and supervise the construction work, while Yibo continued to pursue his agent training and Zhan helped out as an assistant instructor at the Keno Agent Training Academy.

The construction of their dream house took half a year. But now it is finally finished and they could move in. They hired an interior designer who furnished the house for them in a modern way. A gardener planted flowers, bushes and trees for them after the pool construction was completed. They even had a small pool house built that they use as a gym.

But it wasn't just the move into the new house that pleased Yibo. But also his successfully completed agent training. Instead of three years, Yibo had only needed two years. And he was one of the best graduates of his year. Zhan's boss from the secret government organization was impressed and immediately hired Yibo as a permanent service partner of Zhan. Which was the plan from the beginning anyway, after Yibo started his agent training.

But contrary to the plan, the bosses decided not to let the two go undercover in the show business. Not only because there are currently no open missions for them. But also because Yibo as a worldwide known idol would draw too much attention to himself. The fans and media are watching his every move. In this way, he and Zhan could never investigate undisturbed and unhindered.

It is true that Yibo's fame had declined a little in the past two years when he was hardly active in show business. But it was so slight that it was hardly noticeable. Still, Yibo can't just go shopping in any store in Beijing without being immediately recognized. The risk of being exposed is therefore too great.

But that didn't mean the secret organization has no use for Yibo. Instead, they have had another idea for the two. In cooperation with the Keno Academy, which recently opened a third academy called the "Sky Academy," the two were hired undercover there as trainers.

The new academy is close to where the two live, which is beneficial for them. Yibo works there undercover as a dance coach. He is still one of the best dancers in this country and in Korea. He is also able to develop good and fancy choreographies, which is incredibly important for his cover as a dance trainer.

Zhan, who has always had that special singing voice, poses as a singing coach. The secret organization had created a few videos of Zhan as a singing coach for better credibility and uploaded them to the Internet on several video streaming platforms. Within a few days, the videos had already received several hundred thousand likes. Many viewers even asked him for tips and tricks. Which means that his cover is credible.

The reason that the two are working undercover in the sky academy is mainly because in the past years scams had been discovered again and again. Mostly, however, only afterwards, when it was already too late. Among other things, the young students also repeatedly turn to illegal medication and drugs.

The goal is for Zhan and Yibo to expose the cheaters before it's too late. And also that they convict those students who use medicines and drugs to get better.

Since the Sky Academy was still new and therefore completely unknown, they hardly received any applications from interested people. But when it happened to come out that Yibo was working there as a dance coach, the academy management could hardly keep from receiving applications. Every day, sacks of applications from talented young people arrived in the mail.

It took them two weeks to make a selection of 200 applicants, whom they invited for an interview. After that, 122 applicants remained. Therefore, the academy management decided to hold a lottery, just like Keno Academy does, to select the new students.

Yibo, Zhan and the new director of the Sky Academy, hosted live on the Internet the first Sky Academy lottery and drew 20 names from the lottery drum one by one. The names were read out live. These would now be the first students of the Sky Academy!

On their first day of work as coaches at Sky Academy, Zhan and Yibo entered the campus early in the morning hand in hand. The new students were still in the dorms, so the two were able to enjoy walking around the new campus at their leisure. It was different from Keno Academy. Because everything here had been newly built. And yet it felt strangely familiar.

After meeting with the other teachers and coaches, Zhan and Yibo went to the training building. As Yibo entered the dance studio, still lightly smelling the fresh paint on the walls, he truly felt like he was in heaven. Even though he is only working undercover as a dance trainer there, he is looking forward to his job. And even more, he was looking forward to teaching the new students.

Happily, he hugged Zhan. They danced together and laughed. "I can't tell you how happy I am. I can't find words to express how I feel. Everything is going great." Said Yibo after they danced and sat down on the bright parquet floor.

"I know exactly what you mean. It feels right, doesn't it?" Replied Zhan.

"Yeah sure. But I mean everything in total. The two of us. Our house. The job. I don't know how to explain it. But it feels like everything we've been through and done over the last few years should come down to just this."

"I understand. And I feel the same way."

"We should take our job seriously. As special agents undercover, but also as coaches for these students. And somehow I think we should stay here. I mean, there's going to be 20 new students every year. They can make good use of us."

"It seems to me like you're afraid that we're going to be sent on a new mission at some point."

"Yeah, in a way that's true. I know, of course, that as special agents we have to go where we're sent. But this just feels right."

"You can relax hon. This isn't a mission that ends after a few months or a year. The boss told me we're going to be deployed here permanently. Of course, we may have to do smaller missions now and then. But if so, these are just missions that don't affect our undercover work here."

"Is that true?"

"Mhm. The top bosses think this is just the right job for us. Here, despite your fame, we can investigate without anyone catching on to us."

"And we can go home to our beautiful new house every day after work."

"Right. And on the weekends we can spend time with your parents, or we can go visit my parents. And you always have time for your younger siblings, of course."

"So it's like I said, everything's fine." Yibo replied with a smile. Finally, after a long intimate kiss, when Zhan went to the singing studio where he was preparing for the first singing training with the new students, Yibo took his cell phone and called the boss.

He asked the boss, "Do you have any new information?"

The boss cleared his throat and replied, "Yes, we do. And it looks like you're right on with your hunch. I took another look at all the documents and found some discrepancies in them."

"Like what?"

"After the fatal accident, the bodies were taken to the coroner's office and autopsied. But no DNA samples were ever taken. Their dental impressions were also never checked dentally. They did a minimal autopsy on the bodies and cremated them within 24 hours."

"So there is no evidence that the accident really killed Zhan's parents."

"Well, it wasn't really an accident. But you're already right. There is no definite evidence. However, I did some more research. So I found out that a couple matching their description left the country shortly after this so-called accident. This couple used one of the secret identities the two had."

"That's exactly what I suspected. After I got the reports and reviewed them, some things about them struck me as wrong. But I didn't want to say anything to Zhan yet because I don't want to give him false hope."

"And do you want to tell him now?"

"No, not yet. Not until we have solid evidence that his parents are still alive."

"That's not going to be easy."

"I know. But maybe the organization knows more? Maybe they're hiding them somewhere? Someone has to fund them, too, right? You need money for everything and everywhere. And they have to get it from somewhere."

"With their false identities, at least making money shouldn't be a problem. They could have been looking for jobs."

"Maybe so. But what parent wouldn't try to contact their only child? Especially if the child thinks the parents are dead and he is suddenly all alone."

"There may be someone I can ask. They always had a very close relationship with their boss back then. If they were hiding somewhere after the supposed accident, then maybe they contacted him."

"Maybe. But would he tell you, too?"

"I don't know. I can try, though. We have to be careful, though. Once it gets out what we're both investigating, it could make waves. Some people might not like it if it comes out that we are looking for them. So if the organization has its fingers in the pie and is hiding them somewhere."

"That's a risk we have to take. Zhan's adoptive parents also think the two might still be alive. They don't think Zhan's parents would have let themselves be killed so easily. Zhan's parents were excellent agents and were among the best."

"I know. I remember the two of them. We did agent training together back then. All the students looked up to them. The teachers and coaches were always full of praise for them. To me, they were role models."

"I'm really grateful for you helping me."

"Of course I'll help you. After you told me that you thought you saw them and told me about the incorrect reports, it was in my interest to look into the matter. But do you really think you saw them?"

"I am absolutely sure. Zhan still has many pictures of them. Three of them are always on a shelf. Now on our mantel. I've seen the pictures every day. So yes, I'm sure I saw them. They were older than in the pictures. But yes, I recognized them. So I also think that they are not abroad anymore. They've probably been watching us for a while."

"But if they are, why haven't they contacted Zhan?"

"I don't know. I'd like to ask them that myself. But to do that, we have to find them first. And maybe they're afraid to contact Zhan after all these years of him thinking they're dead."

"That could be. After all, it's been around 20 years since then."

"Exactly. There could be many reasons why they haven't contacted him yet. I think the more we learn about the past, the better we'll understand."

"Good. Then I'll try to track down their former boss now and put one of my men to work searching the databases for more information."

"All right. I'll be waiting anxiously to see what you find out. But right now, I have to finish up. My first students are about to arrive and they want me to teach and train them."

"Well, have fun with that."

"Thank you. See you soon." Said Yibo and ended the phone call.

Yibo doesn't feel comfortable keeping such a big secret from Zhan. But until he has proof that Zhan's parents are really still alive, he can't and won't tell Zhan. He doesn't want to open up old wounds with Zhan in case it turns out that he was wrong and the two of them did die in the accident.
