─── INTO YOU
CHAPTER FOUR...!
❝ is to fall in deep ❞
MOTHERS.
They had been a core reason Lilia Love hadn't gone into Pediatrics. The moment you see their face go from hope to sorrow, from expectation to reality, from smiles to tears, when telling them you did everything you could to save their child, was too much for the oncologist.
But now, Dr. Love was standing in front of her patient's mother, as she brushed her daughter's cancer off like it was nothing. And while doing that, Izzie was begging the oncologist to somehow get the woman who birthed her out of her room.
And being as awkward as she grew up to be, Lilia Love had just stood at the doorway of the patient room, her body's adrenaline production increasing every second the mother spoke.
She held scalpels, clamps, and the lives of innocent people for living. But mothers─ they were the scariest part of the job.

"I hate this. I hate cancer, I hate mothers finding out about their child's cancer─" Lilia had began to speak, plopping in the cafeteria seat next to George, before jabbing a piece of his chicken with her fork, scrunching her nose when biting into it "And I hate this chicken. Wh─ How are you eating this?"
"Hey, at least I finally brought a lunch." He laughed out, throwing up his hands in defense. He watched as the oncologist shook her head in disgust, before she continued her rambling.
"I mean─ we spend four years in medical school, and never once, never once, had they thought to mention 'Hey, telling a mother their kid had cancer will be something you need to prepare yourself on!' They just set us free to become surgeons, like─ like a baby bird, learning to fly! They just push us out the nest!"
Once she had finished her speech, she instinctively took a sip of George's juice he was previously drinking. Before she could continue the rest of her statement, she quickly stopped drinking the juice, processing it's flavour "Dear lord, are you drinking this─ That's it. I'm packing you a lunch from now on."
George had stayed quiet, only watching the woman in amazement, amusement, and, seeing how quick she was speaking, a slight bit of worry.
"Anyways─" She spoke, finally catching her breath, facing towards the resident "I'm talking a lot, you're not. Tell me something that happened to you today."
"Uh─ I covered Hunt's post-ops, I─"
"Wait, post-ops?" Lilia's mouth began to form into a wide circle, slightly hitting the man in disbelief "George! You're a resident now! You're supposed to be in the surgeries, not doing all the boring stuff! That's the interns' work! You should be begging Hunt to get in surgeries. Hell, I'm your attending friend! You should be trying to use that to your advantage to get in surgeries!"
She continued hitting as she spoke, George being on the edge of his seat once she finished. "Okay, okay! I'll beg! Just stop, I think you're bruising my arm."
"Sorry." She quickly removed her pushing hands from the resident's shoulder, before being paged. She grabbed a grape from George's lunch container, before jumping up from her seat "Gotta go. But I'm serious! Be a shark, George! A shark!"

"AH, just the two guys I wanted to see!" Lilia chirped, walking up to Mark and George, who were standing at the nurses station, filling out paperwork. She had just finished her shift.
George gave the woman a soft smile, as Mark greeted with a nod of his head "Dr. Love."
"Just wanted to see you two before I head out for the night." The oncologist explained, a grin on her face. She turned to her newly best friend, narrowing her eyes at the resident "I'm packing you a lunch tomorrow. You don't have to eat it if you don't like it, but I can't let you eat the cafeteria food anymore."
George let out a chuckle, shaking his head "Fine. But you have to let me take you out for lunch or something. I need to pay you back somehow."
"Deal." Her smile grew, drumming the counter, before skipping off towards the exit "See you two tomorrow!"
George watched as she left, the smile on his lips slowly fading when the plastic surgeon cleared his throat.
"So, you and Love a thing?"
George shot his head up to look at Mark, before quickly looking back down at his charts, intimidated by the attending's face "N-No. We- We're just friends."
Mark only responded with an noise of understanding, along with a nod of his head.
George gave out a long sigh "Look, I don't have any- feelings for Lilia. I don't. But, it's quite obvious you feel something with her, whether that's a one night stand, or an actual relationship. It's just- she's a great girl. Smart, funny─ And I know you have a reputation for being one who isn't always the most consistent with- one person."
He finally managed to stammer out an explanation on his protectiveness over Lilia, and his glares towards the plastic surgeon recently. The male resident sighed, letting out one last statement, before leaving "Just─ whatever you do, don't hurt her. Okay?"
Mark watched as the man closed his chart, and left the lobby. And for the first time ever, Mark Sloan was intimidated by George O'malley.
