Chapter 6: The Attempted Assassination
Note: Longer chapter to make up for the missed update!
WEREWOLF
Silva's POV
Two days later, and the heat cycle had come to an end. Stretching, I sighed in ecstasy as the last of the pain faded away.
Simon lapped at my ears-we didn't know if Lewis had found out yet. As the alpha's second, Simon could only mate with an omega of his standard, so technically, we couldn't be together or it would result in punishment.
"Let's go back" Simon murmurs.
"Will Lewis find out?" I ask hoarsely.
"I'm not sure...hopefully not" he sighs.
We had turned out pack mind link off as we had mated, so Lewis could not see what was happening.
"What will happen if...y'know?" I ask, purring as he rubs his nose along my cheek.
"I...I don't know" he mumbles, and I nod, following him as we trot out of the den.
It comes out of nowhere, a hand, strong and firm. It slams into my neck, pinning me to the ground, my nose in the dirt.
"Let go!" I yell in my head, knowing that they would not hear me. Struggling to get up, I spot Simon doing nothing, and almost yell at him to help when I notice him rolling his eyes.
"Your reflexes need to be sharpened, Sil!" the familiar voice laughs. Scowling, I phase into my human form, spinning round.
"Shut up Luna!" I snap, checking to make sure the last bits of dirt were off me. She tilts her head, gazing at me in amusement, her icy blue eyes alight with amusement.
"Oh stop being so serious!" she giggles, shaking her long white hair as it flutters into her face with the wind. Another storm was brewing, even though we had only just had one, which wasn't a good sign. Some say it was a bad omen.
Simon phases, turning into the man we all recognized-a large dwarf with ginger hair and a ginger beard.
"You two are such children" he sighs, rolling his eyes. Simon didn't look like much-he wasn't very bright and was always rushing into things, and he had a horrible temper-last time he got angry, he lit his beard on fire so Lewis would take his side!
He was most known for blowing things up, digging holes in random places when he was bored, having an obsession with jaffa cakes and being the sticky glue that held the pack together. No one could stay unhappy with Simon around-he was a big ball of fun.
Pacing away from Silva, I fold my arms as a breeze picks up and I look down the steep ridge to the lake below-Fumble lake as it was often called. It was by far beautiful-a murky grey colour with swirls of brown, pond slime and lily pads dotting the edges. Dull grey fish swam near the shore, picking at dead insects, and small waves lapped at sharp looking pebbles on the edge. It was a last resort for food-in the winters, when the weather was harsh and the humans ran out of food, we would often help them by catching fish for them, and selling it to them in return for basic necessities like fresh water, bread and eggs, and other foods that were plentiful. That was a bonus for us in the winter-fluffy coats to stand harsh weathers, and a constant food source.
It was hard for us though-vampires would get so hungry that they would often sneak into our camp, kill one or two wolves before dragging their carcasses back to their den. Stories had been told around a campfire of the way the blood suckers fell upon the cavaders in a mad frenzy like piranhas ripping apart a chunk of meat, and some would kill each other just to taste the blood.
"Look!" Silva whispers, pointing into the near distance. Squinting, I see a familiar auburn furred wolf padding over the hills, coming to a stop when it sees us. It glances at us warily, before disappearing back into the ridge out of sight.
"We have to get Tia out!" I hiss, remembering that one of my best friends was still trapped with him-how could I forget? He could be doing anything with her in there...
"Ridge won't let us" Simon sighs, and I narrow my eyes at him.
"How can you give up so easily? She's in there, probably being tortured, and you want to sit here and do nothing?" I snap, Silva glancing at Simon for response.
He hesitates, glancing at me once, and I feel my eyes soften slightly at his anxious look.
"I....suppose we can quickly run past and see what is happening. But don't try anything-you won't get out alive and he might kill Tia" he warns and I nod.
Quickly, we phase into our wolf forms, I a silver white colour with small grey speckles, Luna a pure white fluffy wolf and Simon his usual ginger fluffy fur.
Bounding quickly across the grass, Simon leads us to Ridge's den, and we sneak downwind, peering inside.
To my surprise, Tia is curled up, shuffling sometimes, Ridge pressed up on her back. Both of them appeared to be resting, but Ridge stiffens, looking up and glaring at us.
A growl slips out of his mouth and Tia glances up, panting, her tongue lolling out in a greeting. She had turned her mind link off, so I ignore Simon's warning and trot inside, nuzzling her snout softly.
"Turn your mind link on" I try and yell, pawing at the ground before sniffing her head. She glances once at Ridge who has not stopped growling, and simply shakes her head, laying it down on the ground.
"Get out" Ridge's voice suddenly appears in our heads, and I bristle. It was sharp, stabbing, almost physically hurting me at the bitterness in his tone.
"We were just checking on her Ridge" Simon growls, baring his teeth slightly.
"I'm fine" Tia's voice chimes in quietly, and Ridge snaps his jaws at her, her thoughts disappearing from my head as quickly as they came. It was clear her heat cycle had also come to an end, but I could already sense the bond between the two. The bond that hadn't meant to be.
"Tia has been betrothed to Duncan, so she needs to go back" Simon demands, and Ridge snorts, beginning to reply when the padding of paws makes us all look up. A familiar black and brown wolf with hazel eyes sprints towards us before skidding to a stop.
"What's wrong Leafblade?" Simon asks calmly.
"Lewis wants us all to report back to base-apparently there is an attack coming soon" he pants, collapsing on the ground-he had sprinted a while.
"Alright, thank you Leafblade, we will go back to base immediately" Simon nods, and I trot over to Leafblade, licking the alpha lightly on his ear as he fights for his breath back. I hear Simon mutter just the slightest growling noise, and I wag my tail in amusement.
We set off sprinting across the grass-I felt alive as I soared past stray boulders on the plains. Leaving the forest, the ridge and the lake behind, my thoughts go back to Tia-was she truly okay?
No time to wonder now, I think, watching the scenery flash before my eyes as we finally reach our den.
Every wolf was there-from nursing mothers, to patrols, from hunters to maters. Lewis was pacing, his sleek black fur gleaming in the autumn sunlight. Glancing around, I spot some familiar faces-Particlewisp, with dark brown fur and yellowish eyes, Shadowblade with jet black fur and deep rich blue eyes-he was usually on lead patrol but now he was here, stood silently amongst the other wolves who watched him cautiously. Not much was known about him, and it made other wolves wary of him. He was a strong fighter, one of the strongest in our pack, and most of us looked up to him with a sort of respect.
Another face I recognized was Crimson, the grey wolf with teal eyes-she was kind of a loner, but she was friends with Shadowblade and Tia.
Thinking of Tia made me think back to her. I was worried about her, trapped in that cave with the ridge wolf.
"Pack!" Lewis yells in his head in the alpha timbre, making us stop our conversations and turn to the front.
"It has been pointed out that the vampires intent to attack us in a few days" Lewis snarls, cue angry snaps and barks from other wolves.
"Attack them!" Crimson snaps.
"How dare they enter our territory?" Duncan growls, shaking his long blonde fur in disgust.
"Kill them before they kill us!" Luna yells, which many murmur in agreement at.
"Eclipse, one of our omega wolves, has witnessed the plan of attack. Eclipse, tell us what you heard" Lewis barks. The midnight black wolf looked similiar to Lewis here, but she looked terrified with every single wolf staring at her somewhat angrily.
"Uh...I was hunting near the boundary line and accidently chased a deer over it. It only got a few metres away before I got it, but I heard some vampires also hunting discussing how they were planning to attack us" she explains, and more wolves cut in.
"We need to attack now" Josh growls, baring his teeth. Most wolves were voicing that opinion too until the shouting and chanting of "War! War! War!" was so deafening you could barely hear your own thoughts.
"Let us go now, my fellow wolves! Fight to the death and return victorious!" Lewis yells, and we all scramble around, taking our positions. We all had set positions for battle, Shadowblade being forced onto the front line by Lewis. The strongest fighters, such as Crimson and Lewis himself, began to get ready, making sure everyone was in line.
Karma pulled up beside me, the brown wolf with deep blue eyes nuzzling me. She was one of my best friends and she would join me on the front line.
"Ready?" she grins in excitement, padding at the ground.
Lewis sets off into a sprint, barking loudly as everyone who will battle with him fall into step behind him.
"Ready!" I cheer fiercely, before we set off into a sprint, going straight towards the boundary line.
VAMPIRE
Sky's POV
Sprinting through the forest, tree branches whip at my skin, but they only feel like feathers caressing my body. The scenery flashes by my eyes quickly, but I was in no mood to stop and savour the view. This was important.
All I could hear was my feet pounding against the ground, and birds tweeting in alarm as they scatter, or animals bleeting and squeaking as they run from my presence. I had never fully expressed my fascination with the speed of vampires-it was so exhilarating to run at high speeds, the wind whipping at your hair and the leaves stroking your skin as you go past.
Finally, I reach my destination, and I slow down, catching my balance as I wait patiently.
"You're late" the voice murmurs, and I suppress a shudder at the sound that clips my ears.
"I got delayed" I mumble, glancing away into the trees.
"If you are late again, I won't go so easy on you" he snaps, stepping from the shadows.
"I understand" I mutter, and I swallow as he glares at me heatedly with those evergreen eyes, so vibrant and reptilian.
"I understand, sir" I sigh, finally looking fully at him.
Dressed in his usual attire, a royal blue coat with golden edges, a golden crown atop his head, and white hair, the colour of beaten silver, he was unmistakably the king of the world.
"You know why I'm here, of course" Mexxy continues, pacing, his hands behind his back as he steadily places one foot in front of the other, all the while focused on me.
"Not really" I shrug-he hadn't given me much warning.
He narrows his strange green eyes, the pupils turning to slits. Striding towards me, I brace myself before he grabs me roughly by the hair and yanks my head up so my eyes were less than twenty centimetres from his.
"Stop your little relationship with the wolf girl before I stop it for you" he spits, eyes burning into mine so heatedly I felt like my eyes were going to melt.
"I-I understand" I stammer, breathing a sigh of relief as he releases his powerful grip on my hair.
"Do you?" he whispers menacingly, glaring at me with so much hatred, I flinch backwards.
"Yes sir" I snap angrily, angry at my confidence disappearing. I was Sky, the leader of the biggest vampire coven in the world. Everybody feared me!
"Good" he smiles, stepping backwards away from me. He smelt a lot like smoke from a burning campfire, and more disturbingly, the smell of blood. Which was unusual for a vampire to say, but this blood was not a type that vampire's drank. It was immortal blood, and it was poisonous to us.
"I gave you a task, remember? Or have you...forgotten?" he muses, tilting his head.
Racking my brains, I remember and stiffen.
"To...kill the ridge wolf?" I ask weakly, and he nods slowly.
"Ye-" he starts, but we are cut off by the sound of howling, and I freeze, my eyes widening-the wolves were attacking our base!
"Go now, little vampire, go prove to me you have what it takes to defend yourself" he sneers, before disappearing into thin air and I spin round, sprinting back to our base at full speed.
Time to chop up some mutts.
Note: Sorry for short vampire POV will have a bigger one next time! :)

No question this week, only, any plot ideas for me? Send me them! Also, those who have inboxed me their wolf/vampire profiles, can you post them in the comments of the very first chapter called "Vampire or Werewolf?" so it is easier for me to get to them? Thanks :D
