Thirty

When you wake, the cabin is full of the light of the sun. You check the clock on your phone to find that it's already past noon. With a groan, you get out of bed and stretch your somewhat stiff body. Some part of you knows you haven't done anything to earn the soreness, but that doesn't make it less.

After a quick breakfast and a good dose of caffeine, you're left wondering what to do next. Now that you know the cabin is haunted, it's sort of hard to let go of the idea of Luke. The way he asked about you so worriedly really touched a part of your heart. It has been a long time since anyone asked you if you were okay so genuinely...

You shake your head and head back up to the bed to dress for the day. Some fresh air would probably be a good idea, though you don't think you'll walk too far, just in case there are less friendly ghosts in the area.

The sun shines brightly today, and the heat is obvious, but not stifling. The air isn't really humid either, so it's a pleasant atmosphere for walking. You circle the cabin, keeping a watchful eye out for poison ivy and other natural unpleasantness. Along the way, you gather up twigs and some dead leaves for another fire that night.

S'mores would hit the spot just right. Maybe you'll roast some of the brats you purchased on the way into the cabin.

You make your way back to the cabin and light a fire in the fire pit outside. An hour later, you enjoy a feast of delicious foods and ice cold water from the tap. By then, the sun is inching toward the horizon and you start to notice a few fireflies buzzing around. You are just considering whether you should go inside for the night when you look up and spot Luke in the window of your cabin.

He stares out at you with white eyes once more.

You stand up and very carefully put out the fire, using sand to dampen it and make sure it won't cause any problems. Then you look back at the cabin. Your heart races again, and you think long and hard about whether or not you really want to go back inside and deal with a ghost. It's not exactly something you came to this remote region for.

You bite your lip as you consider your options. From your research, you know there is a ranger station not too far away. It would be crazy to tell them there is a ghost in your cabin, but maybe you could tell them you didn't feel safe and ask one of them to bring you back for your stuff tomorrow.

Or you could just go inside and see if Luke sticks around. It would make sense if he had a reason for still being in the cabin, and you do sort of owe him for potentially saving your life...
