Chapter 8

Kyo slowly woke up, and looked around her. The first thing she noticed was that she was in a dimly lit room, laying in a bed, next to two other ones.

The only light source came from the window, which, even though the curtains covered it, a sliver of morning white light had slipped in.

Both beds had lumps under the covers. The matter had immediately slipped her mind as her focus was now directed towards her arms and legs, which she couldn't  move.

Why.. can't I move..? She twisted in her sheets, and eventually had to come to using her nose to nudge the covers off of her.

Bandages.

Bandages were wrapped tightly around her arms. She couldn't see her legs, but she guessed that those were wrapped up, too. She was careful not to move her face from side to side, because her nose would start stinging.

Thinking.. thinking.. why was she here? What.. happened..

It hit her like a brick. Memories of the previous event flashed in her mind, and she cringed in emotional pain.

Abandonment.

Eyebrows scrunching up in discomfort, she slowly started to remember these awful things.

Wolf Attack.

Whimpering softly, she asked in her head, "Stop.. stop.."

Mother.

"No.. no.." She whined.

A rustling noise was heard, though she couldn't hear it.

"Mm.. somethin' the matter.. Kyo..hm.." He said groggily, lifting his blue eyes to meet her green ones.

"No.. sorry." Came the reply. Deidara lifted his head a little more, and squinted his eyes to get a better look at Kyo.

She was placed in an uncomfortable position- on her back. The sheets were pulled back a little, just enough to see her arms in casts. Her head faced the ceiling, seeing as it would hurt to turn her neck.

He only felt a little bad for her, and he didn't know why. He was an Akatsuki member, unfeeling, not to give in to his emotions.

He ignored his thoughts, and slowly sat up. Oh, that's right. At one point in his life, he used to wake up extra early, didn't he? Remembering why was only nostalgic.

He woke up, just for her. Just to talk to her, to hear her voice, to give advice. He loved her presence, it had made him feel so happy- like she was his younger sister, even though she was actually older than him. Taki.

Which reminded him- his birthday was about five months ago.. he had recently turned twenty. He was in the same age range as Taki now. This simple, silly fact had always given him a little delight.

I'm catching up to you, Taki. Can you see me? ..... Can you hear me? .... Do you know that I'm here? .... Have you been watching me?

Questions like these constantly popped through his head, and he wanted more than anything to hear her answer. It saddened him... that the only way to hear it.. was through death.

He had enough in his life to deal with. Now he- along with the rest of the Akatsuki- had to care for a small, fragile child. It confused him why Obito had brought her home with him.

But knowing that Obito himself had had a horrible and rough life.. considering that many of the people he loved, including Taki, had died.. he had it harder.

And yet- he brought home this wondrous and naive girl. To be able to make a heartless person like him grow soft was miraculous, to say the least. That's why he had decided to accept Kyo. If Obito loved her, than he should definitely give her a chance.

Obito entrusted her to them, and now nothing, he decided, would stop him from protecting this little girl.

He stretched, and forced himself out of bed. He eyed Kyo, who couldn't see him, because of the angle she was laid at. She continued her whimpering, and he walked over not to her, but to Sasori.

He poked his side. No response. He poked it again. No response. Irritated, he shook him. By now, either he was really asleep, or he was purposely ignoring him.

But wait.. puppets can't get into a deep sleep, which meant that Sasori was ignoring him. Irked, he bent down to Sasori's ear, and with the loudest whisper-voice he could muster, "WAKE UP, DANNA!"

Sasori's hand flew to Deidara's face, and pushed it away with as much force as possible in annoyance. He hoped it would hurt.

"Ow! Dannaaaa!" Deidara whined, whisper-shouting. Mission accomplished.

"Go away and leave me be, brat." Sasori replied, his voice muffled as his face was pressed comfortably into the pillow.

"But you gotta wake up, hm! Kyo isn't feeling good." He murmered. Sasori grunted in response, and waved his hand at him, signalling him to 'go away'.

Deidara growled, disliking how Sasori always treated him. He let out an exaggerated "Hmph!" and crossed his arms. How was he going to wake up Sasori?

It was strange to him how Sasori chose to sleep, when puppets didn't need sleep. All he knew was that Sasori was willing to wake up "on time" for his missions, but never earlier.

If anyone tried to wake Sasori up earlier.. well.. then you're gonna get one hell of a beating.

Deidara bit his nail, trying to think. An idea popped into his mind, and he smirked. "Oh what I'll do for you, Kyo."

-

He wandered over to Kyo's bed, and softly whispered, "Hey!" Kyo turned her head slightly to look at Deidara.

"Wha' is it?"

He pursed his mouth into a self-satisfied smirk. "Wanna see Danna get kissed?" Kyo's face scrunched up in confusion, until it turned into surprise, then joy. She giggled, and nodded.

Sasori always hated the thought of being kissed, and Deidara knew it. It was the most evil plan he had thought of thus far. He snickered to himself, but soon his  face dropped.

"But who's gonna do it, hm?" He questioned aloud. This time Kyo had the evil glint in her eye.

"Why you, of course, Deidara-san!"

-

"Why?" He whined for the upteenth time in the past five minutes.

"Because you look like a girl!" Kyo chirped, to which he sent a glare.

"I do not."

"Uh huh!"

"Do not."

"It's true!"

Giving up, he groaned. "But why do I have to wear makeup, hm?"

"Because it will make you look prettier than you already are! It will 'set the mood'." She replied, pitching her voice as low as she could when she said 'set the mood'.

Deidara wasn't sure whether to take that as a compliment or not. He refused to wear lipstick, but Kyo still forced him to at least wear chapstick.

He blinked his eyes at the mirror. "I look hideous! Hm!" He had put on maskera, concealer, and chapstick. That was all he could find in the night drawer which Taki had from so long ago. He knew that Obito would go looking for her possesions, so he hid a little for himself, to remember her.

"No 'ya don'! You look just like the pretty girl did!" She was referring to Taki, who didn't need makeup to sustain her looks.

If Deidara was a girl, he would be the most eye-catching lady on the block. Kyo wanted to clap her hands in excitement, but she couldn't. A wave of dizzyness came over her, but it passed as soon as it came, lucky for her.

He wearily looked at Sasori. "I can't!" He said.

"Bu' you mus'! It's for me, 'member?" He groaned. At least out of anyone he had to kiss, it would be his best friend. But it was still a revolting thought.

He walked over reluctantly to Sasori's bed, and swallowed hard, sweating. "I-I can't, hm."

"Do it." Came the answer sternly.

He leaned his head towards Sasori, whose eyes were lightly sealed shut. Creepy. He took a lot longer looking at Sasori's face than he ever thought he would in his life.

He slowly started to inch towards his face, not believing that he was actually going to do it. Is this worth it? Yeah.. it must be. Kyo, you owe me.

He pressed his lips unwillingly onto Sasori's. Surprising to him, his lips were warm and soft, not cold and hard, like he imagined (and hoped).

Kyo squealed in delight, forcing herself to sit up to look at the *ahem* beautiful sight before her.

Sasori's eyes flicked open, and with eyes huge and wide, he looked at Deidara, whose lips were still pressed reluctantly onto his.

His hands shaking with.. who knows what feeling.. (anger, possibly)he slowly pounded on Deidara's back with as much force as possible.

Deidara, knowing his plan had worked, he quickly got his face out of Sasori's, letting out the breath he had been holding, and wiped his lips. Ugh.

Shaking, Sasori furrowed his eyebrows, and looked at Deidara with the most angry, confused, and surprised expression he had ever seen before. Uh oh. Danna's gonna blow.

"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?!"

Kyo giggled uncontrollably while Sasori chased Deidara around the room, and eventually out the door.
