Chapter 20

Kyo jumped as the door opened suddenly, the clicking noise echoing through the room. A redhead made his way through the door, along with two people; a blondie and a guy with markings on his face.

The redhead immediately made Kyo think of Sasori. His emotionless face also resembled Sasori in a way that made her smile up at him.

He didn't even look at her when he walked straight to Tsunade. They began to talk, and all it was was about boring meetings, and how he would be staying in Konoha for a few days beforehand.

She breathed out heavily, looking to the side, unamused. She crossed her legs together, sitting flat on the chair right next to Tsunade. She was unhappy that no one cared that she was there.

To them, she was just another person in the room. She saw Kankuro looking at her for a second, before quickly looking away with a huff.

She watched intently as he softly elbowed Temari, causing her to shoot a glare at him. "This better be good!" She whisper-shouted at him.

"Look," he instructed, as he pointed at Kyo. Temari did as he asked, and looked towards Kyo. Her eyes widened. After noticing that Kyo was staring back, she shifted her glance back to Kankuro.

"What is she doing here!" She asked in a hushed voice.

"How am I supposed to know?!" He whispered back. Both spared another glance at Kyo, until they began talking among themselves again.

"Lady Tsunade would never allow a child to stay by her side during an important meeting like this!"

"I know.."

Gaara finally caught ear of what his siblings were whispering about, and he stopped talking. He turned his head to see a little redhead, just like him.

She grinned at him, with a hint of nervousness behind it. He nodded at her, and looked back at Tsunade.

"Who is this?" His soft voice was soothing to the ear, and it also reminded Kyo of Sasori. She wanted to listen to him talk all day, although she knew that she would probably never get that chance.

"O-oh, her? She's.." Tsunade furrowed her eyebrows, looking to the side as she brought her voice lower.

"We had an "incident" right before you arrived, Gaara." He raised an invisible eyebrow as Temari and Kankuro perked up.

"It was," she whispered, "the Akatsuki." They let out soft gasps. Gaara cleared his throat.

"No need to whisper, Tsunade. No one can hear us outside of this room."

Tsunade herself straightened up, sighing. "Okay. Anyways, their two leaders came in with.. this girl.." She mentioned Kyo as if she were the plague, who's smile immediately dropped.

Gaara noticed Kyo looking down, with confusion and sadness in her eyes. He knew what that was like. Everyone hated him. Despised him. He was avoided, called names, betrayed, and many attempted murders were plotted against him.

He looked away again, to hear Tsunade continue. "Her name is Kyo. She is turning six in a few weeks, and it looks like for now she will be staying with us. The Akatsuki is apparently willing to sign a treaty between Konoha and themselves for peace. They went with Kakashi, and they left Kyo to me."

Gaara quickly turned to Kyo. "Is this true?" He asked with all seriousness in his voice.

"Hai," she answered, "it is all true. After a beloved member of their organization died, a sweet kunoichi, they had already begun to feel themselves falling apart. At that time, it was simple to be able to change their hearts. It didn't take much at all."

Gaara was surprised at her ability to speak well. She spoke like a grown-up, and the way she said things sounded so convincing.

"I see.." he mumbled to himself. He was about to say something, when Tsunade softly hit Kyo on the back of her head, earning an "Itai!"

She brought her close, whisper-shouting in her ear, "I told you not to speak!"

"But Gaara-sama asked me a question.." Kyo responded, confused.

"Then don't speak so much, there's no need."

Kyo sighed softly, answering with a slight nod of the head. Tsunade finally let go of her shirt collar with a disgusted look on her face.

Kyo stared at her, wide eyed in confusion and sadness. "Tsunade-sama.. do you.. not like me? Like the others.."

As Tsunade hushed her up, Gaara's expression softened. That was the exact question he asked to Yashamaru a long time ago.

"You are a part of the Akatsuki, the enemy, so in that sense," Tsunade paused, then said with harshness, "yes."

Kyo whimpered. "I want to go home, Akatsuki treats me better than this."

"How dare you say that to your leader!" Tsunade jumped up from her seat, pounding her fists onto the table, her yelling shocking everyone into silence.

"She's only a child.." Temari whispered. Tsunade quickly silenced her with a hand.

She quickly turned to Kyo in anger, who looked hurt. "Akatsuki is the worst and most evil organization in the world! How dare you say that I treat you no better! I am your leader, and you will respect me!"

Kyo's eyes widened, looking as if she was going to cry. "I-I'm sorry if it offended you, Tsunade-sama. But at the moment, it's true. They don't see me like you do."

Tsunade just growled at her. "I want you out. Can't stand you here anymore, it's hurting my head." She sat back down, and closed her eyes, rubbing her forehead.

"In that case, I will take her with me if you don't mind, Tsunade." Gaara said calmly, taking hold of Kyo's hand. Temari and Kankuro looked at him in surprise.

Tsunade was too out of it to think clearly. She waved her hand dismissively at him, and they left. As they were walking down the hall, they could hear Tsunade yelling to Shizune to get her a shot of sake.

"That woman scares me sometimes," Kankuro said.

Gaara looked down to Kyo, whose eyes were glossed over. "Are you alright?" He asked. She simply nodded, and looked up to him.

"I just don't understand what's wrong with me," she said shakily. He hummed in response.

"There's nothing wrong with you, Kyo, she was just scared. Scared of what you could be. The Akatsuki usually doesn't joke around, and she is afraid that the treaty could be a trap of some sort." His voice calmed her, and she breathed out.

"Do you know.." she paused. "Naruto Uzumaki..?" Gaara felt something close to happiness enter him when she spoke the name.

"He was my first friend." The response made her smile a little.

"Taki was a kind and sweet friend of the Akatsuki, who had passed away recently. He was one of her friends, and I wanted to meet him, along with Team Kakashi, also her close friends.

"Okay," He said without hesitation. "I will take you right now."
