Chapter 18
The door opened with a creak, and a bluenette emerged through the front entrance of the Akatsuki hideout.
Konan entered, with Pein following close behind. "We're hooome~" she sang out. All she had earned was groans from all of the men from behind the couch.
She saw a little redhead girl pop up from her place on the floor by the guys, and trotted up to greet her.
"Ohh, I remember you!" Konan looked down to see the girl with a bright grin on her face.
"I don't know who you are, Mr. and Miss, but hello anyway! I am Kyo. Nice to meet you." She bowed respectfully to the pair.
Konan couldn't help but smile at Kyo's enthusiasm. "Why, what nice manners you have. Hello to you, too."
Pein just couldn't understand the reason behind Kyo's being here. He knew that Obito took a liking to this girl, but he was the leader of a criminal organization that showed no mercy to anyone. He looked further into her background, and was surprised to see none besides her most recent memories. Did she lose all of her memories before then?
"I see.. that you and Obito have bonded.." He drawled out. She nodded.
"Yup."
He looked closer at her. So that was why he brought her here. He found a little of Taki's spirit in her. She was, after all, just as kind and forgiving. Obito must have noticed it the moment he saw her, and held it close to his heart.
He jumped a little, causing Konan to turn to him. "What's wrong?"
As he continued to search through Kyo's memories, he had finally come upon her most recent experience, causing the surprise to enter him. Kyo had talked to Obito about his Eye in the Moon plan. Would Obito really stop the plan, like she had suggested?
At this point he wasn't sure what to think. At one moment, right after Taki's death, he had highly wished for this exact thing to happen, along with the rest of the members. It was as if a will had entered them, saying "this is how it needs to be".
As Konan was squealing about not being the only girl in the house anymore, Pein walked directly to Obito, who for once was enjoying himself watching tv with the rest of the members.
Obito caught his eye, and turned to him. "So you know, huh..?" He asked in a low voice. Pein nodded. "Are you really going to do it? Is that what you wish?"
Obito looked down. "It's not about what I wish. She's taught me something important that I can never forget. The further I get into this plan, the more I'm willing to do anything for it. I don't want to end up accidentally doing something I will regret later."
He looked up, with tears in his eyes. "I'm not sure how to explain it, or how she was able to get through to me. It was just as if a feeling came into me, with so much power and intensity that it moved me immediately. And besides.. I realize now that I was selfish. I would kill anyone that got in my way, for this plan that only results in me getting to feel happy."
Pein slowly nodded, then looked deeper into Obito's memories to see exactly what he was talking about. He could see Kyo taking him by the hand, and leading him to a hill that got a perfect view of the sky.
He saw her talking to Obito, and somehow, the words made Pein feel exactly the same way, all at once. Was Kyo this persuasive? Was it her words, or the truth behind it? What had hit both men with such a feeling that put them to shame?
"Well, what are you going to do now?" Pein asked. "I mean, do we continue living life together? How are you going to tell the other members? Will we sign any sort of treaty between us and Konoha like before?"
As Obito and Pein were working out the kinks of the new life style they would begin, Konan walked to the men on the couch, placing one hand on her hip. She sighed.
"How could you seriously consider watching this with a five year old?!" She hit someone on the head closest to her, which happened to be Deidara.
"Jeez, don't be like that, hm. It's just a little something to brighten the mood today." He turned back excitedly to the show.
"The Bachelorette?!"
"Yes, it's really quite intriguing to find out which man she ends up choosing," Kisame replied. Konan slammed her fist down on Deidara's head again in anger. He turned around to her, holding his hands over his head.
"What was that for, hm, that really hurts!" He whimpered.
"First of all, why put this on in front of a five year old girl? What do you think this teaches her!?"
"Don't worry, Konan, I won't be like those girls! It's just fun for me to see how stupid they are to marry someone they've only met for a short time!" Kyo shouted up at her with glee.
Konan pat her on the head. "Good answer. Now, you don't ever marry a man that way, get to know him first for a really long time."
"Yes, Konan."
Suddenly, two hands gripped Kyo's from either side. She looked up to see Pein and Obito holding her hands. "What are you doing?"
Pein looked at Obito, who answered for her. "We're signing that treaty between us and Konoha, like Kakashi had offered so long ago."
Everyone looked over the couch at them, and the show on tv was paused.
"What did you.. say?" Hidan asked.
Blank stares from all of the members bore into Obito's. He cleared his throat, starting to feel himself sweat.
"If you would like to resign from being an Akatsuki member because of this, do it now."
Again, everyone went silent. Deidara jumped off of the couch, and hugged Obito. Giggling to himself, he whispered into his ear, "You have no idea how long I've been waiting for you to say that."
Obito shuddered as Deidara let go of him, smiling widely.
"Now we can finally live a normal life together, right, hm?"
Sasori slowly got up from the couch. "I'm leaving. There's no point to my existence now." He looked at Deidara, then quickly looked away.
He began to walk away, when Deidara hugged him, causing him to stop. "No.. no, you can't leave, Danna..."
Sasori turned to Deidara, forcing him to release him. "I have to, Dei." Deidara looked at him in slight surprise.
"That's.. the best nickname I've ever heard you give me, Danna."
"Yes.. and it'll probably be the last one you hear me give you. Goodbye." He continued walking, when Deidara took a hard grip on his cloak. He looked down.
"No, you can't go. You do have a purpose. I think you do, anyway."
Sasori tried to get his hands off, but they ended up fighting until Deidara had straddled Sasori. He stared up at Deidara in surprise. "Do.. I really mean that much to you, Deidara?"
Deidara leaned in to Sasori's ear, whispering, "You're like my brother, hm. Annoying sometimes, but one that I would die without. You're everything to me, so please stay."
"O-okay, if you really do feel that way. And.. I'm kind of.. satisfied.. that you accept my existence. That is enough for me to want to stay."
Kyo leaned over to Obito, whispering "SasoDei", and he burst out laughing. Sasori and Deidara must have known exactly what they were saying, because they immediately got off of each other.
"You guys are so mean, hm!" Deidara shouted at them.
Obito cleared his throat. "Anyway, we're glad everyone will stay. We'll be going now." With that he and Pein began walking out of the base with Kyo in hand.
"Why are you taking me?" She asked.
"Because Taki had made friends that live in Konoha, and we're sure that you would like to meet them," Pein answered monotonously.
