Chapter 14
Sasori gently picked her up, and set her down on the bed. He looked into her eyes, which were red. He wiped at her wet cheeks.
He knew what it was like to lose his mother. It was about the most painful feeling he had ever known. It was like a part of himself had drifted away into the darkness.
So many questions had filled his mind when he had first found out about his parent's deaths. Why did they have to die? What exactly happened? Why have I been lied to until now? Who will take care of me? What will I do without them?
He softly whispered to her, "Do you have a father?"
Kyo sniffed, and wiped her eyes. "What's a father?"
He was astounded. Did her mother never speak of her husband? Or the fact that she had a father at all? Or what a father even was, and what part he played in the family?
"A father.." He started, thinking. "A father also takes care of the family, like your mother. He provides, protects, and cares for you. He loves the mother, and vows to take care of her and her children."
"Like Obito and Taki?" Kyo asked, her big blue eyes bearing into his.
He chuckled a little, and shook his head. "He never got the chance to make that vow."
"Why not?" Kyo asked, again naively.
"Because.." Sasori looked up. "He was too late to tell her he loved her.." Kyo gasped a little, before he continued. "..before she died."
Kyo stared at him, tears welling up into her eyes, and falling as soon as they came. "So tha' was why.. she had a tombstone.."
"Mm hm.."
Obito closed his eyes in pain, leaning against the door frame outside of Kyo's room. He had meant to come and comfort Kyo, but decided to listen to what Sasori had to say.
"He was too late to tell her that he loved her.."
He grit his teeth. He had never taken that part into account. If he had just sucked up his pride and told her sooner, she would never have died, and they wouldn't be in this mess.
Why was he so selfish then? Well, he could never tell Rin, either, before she died. Both of his loves died, but at least he did tell Taki before she went.
When she told him she loved him back, it was about the happiest feeling he had ever felt. His whole soul was lifted. He smiled to himself.
Maybe he needed to say that often to those he loved. "I love you." Because in reality, they could be gone in a second at any moment, no matter how protected they are. They needed to know always that Obito loves them.
He opened the door, and Kyo jerked in surprise. Sasori peered over her shoulder, at Obito. He walked over to Kyo, and wrapped his arms around her from behind. He buried his face into her hair. Shocked, she just froze. Sasori raised his eyebrow at him in confusion.
"I should be saying this more.." Obito tightened his arms around Kyo.
"But I love you. No matter how you like it, I will always love you."
Kyo grinned, and twisted in his arms to face him. She threw her arms around Obito. "I love ya' too, Obito-san!"
Kyo turned to Sasori, and smiled. "C'mon, Sasori-san!" He groaned.
"But I just sat on the floor, and I was already getting comfortable."
"Stop being so lazy!"
Sasori rolled his eyes, and pushed himself off of the floor. He stood up and joined the hugging.
Their faces were pushed up against each other. Kyo was squeezing her eyes shut, smiling. Obito and Sasori liked being with Kyo, but desperately wanted to get out of each others' faces.
"Let go, Kyo, I don't like my face being pushed up against Sasori's." Obito complained.
Kyo opened her eyes, giggled, then let them go. They scrambled away from each other and folded their arms to look at her.
"Don' worry, Sasori would never kiss you, he only will for Dei-san!"
"What." Obito raised an eyebrow at Sasori.
Sasori shook his head, sighing. "Deidara kissed me because he wanted to make Kyo laugh or something, and now she calls us SasoDei."
A smile tugged at Obito's lips. "The name sounds strangely enticing to want to encourage."
"DO NOT SHIP ME WITH THAT BRAT!" Sasori shouted.
Soon Deidara's head popped in through the door. "What the heck is going on, un?"
Sasori refused to answer. Kyo grinned, and said, "You love Sasori-san, so why don' you kiss 'im?"
Deidara sweat dropped, and furiously shook his head. "I hate Danna. He's too mean to possibly be loveable, hm. And besides.." He scratched his cheek, furrowing his eyebrows in anger.
"I'M NOT GAY!"
"Gay? But you look like a girl, so no one will know!"
"A GIRL?! I DO NOT, HM!"
"Yes you do!"
"No I don't!"
"Yes!"
"No!"
"Yes!"
"No!"
"Enough, I don't care if Deidara is gay or straight, you both need to go on a mission," Obito interrupted.
"I'm not gay," Deidara mumbled.
Kyo's attention was turned to something else now. "Mission? Can I go, too?"
"No way."
"But whyyyyy!"
"It's way too dangerous, and you don't even know what the mission will be."
Kyo puffed out her cheeks, and crossed her arms. "Okay, Obito." she said in defeat.
"So what do we need to do?" Sasori inquired.
Obito spared a glance at Kyo, and cleared his throat. "You will be going to infiltrate the village hidden in the mist. You will bring back a scroll to me. Unlike the others, it should have a bright red marking on it."
"Wouldn't you have Kisame and Itachi do that? They're way better at that stuff, not to mention that Kisame probably knows his own village like the back of his hand, hm." Deidara retorted, disappointed that he didn't get a more exciting mission like he usually did.
"Stop whining, brat, just come on." They both walked out the door, arguing the whole way out.
"They already fight like a married couple!" Kyo sang.
"WE DO NOT!" Both Sasori and Deidara shouted back, their voices trailing far down the hallway.
What Obito didn't tell them was that there was no such scroll in the Hidden Mist.
