E L E V E N

(Y/N)'s POV

"Come on kid... Don't give up."

More darkness. It was suffocating.

"Please just wake up."

I wanted to sleep.

Something happened. Something that made me feel bad. I just wanted to sleep it all away.

But there's something else. Something important. I can't sleep yet. I have to wake up. I have to fight.

The darkness lifted. I squinted as my eyes adjusted to the light. I groaned as a wave of pain went through me. Something tightened around my hand. I turned my head and looked at my hand. It was cold. Something white was holding onto it. I found what, or who, it belonged to and smiled.

It was a small sleeping skeleton, wearing a blue hoodie. He must have been the voice I was hearing.

Sans.

I tried sitting up but gasped as another wave of pain went through me. Sans stirred and I lay back down. All of my movement must have woken him fully, because Sans lifted his head and looked at me in surprise.

"(Y/N)! You're awake."

I nodded and glanced down at my hand which he was still holding. He immediately let go and a blue tint painted his face.

"What happened? Did you reset? How are you still alive?" I asked, remembering that Chara went on a murdering spree. Sans looked confused.

"You passed out at Grillbys. You've had a high fever since then. Y-you've been unconscious for a week." He explained. I laughed.

"It was just a nightmare. They didn't kill anyone...  It wasn't real." I breathed out, relieved. I hugged Sans, ignoring the pain that went through my head.

"You were talking in your sleep." Sans said as he hugged me back. I froze and lay back down, looking at his face, which was still tinted a light blue. I blushed.

"W-what uh... What did I s-say?" I stuttered. Sans frowned.

"You were mostly shouting for someone to stop. What happened in your nightmare?" Sans asked, concerned. I explained what happened.

"I woke up in Grillbys but Chara had taken over my body so I was basically just a ghost. Like Napstablook. Chara... They killed everyone in Snowdin. Then they found Papyrus. I tried to stop them. But they killed Papyrus. T-then you came. Chara and you fought and you lost. Chara killed you. I couldn't stop them."

I knew that I was crying but I couldn't stop. I knew that Chara was just showing me what they could do. They could kill everyone I loved. I felt my magic activate in my eye and covered it with my hand. I wished that Chara had never given me this.

Sans wrapped his arms around me. I sniffed and returned the embrace.

"There was one more thing." Sans murmured.

"What was it?" I asked.

"You said 'Because I love him.'" Sans told me and I felt my heart skip a beat.

"T-that's weird." I stuttered. Sans laughed, but it didn't seem genuine.

"You don't remember saying anything like that? You don't love any monsters?"

I shook my head and backed out of the hug. I looked at Sans' face.

"Nope. Maybe I was talking about my stuffed animal I have back at home. Yeah. I just love my little Pikachu." I lied and looked away nervously. Sans was quiet for a moment before he laughed again.

"You should get some sleep, kiddo. Papyrus, Frisk and I have been worried sick about you. Papyrus doesn't exactly remember you, but I think he still feels like your familiar. He still cares. Try your best to get better." Sans told me and walked out of the room. I looked around and realized that I was actually in Sans' room. I smiled and closed my eyes, falling into a dreamless sleep.

The next few days, I spent getting better. It was strange, not having Chara in my thoughts. I didn't know what happened to them, but I suspected that they weren't gone for good.

Papyrus came and talked to me often. Sometimes we did Junior Jumble together. Frisk visited me too. We talked about everything and about the different timelines. We only talked about the genocide route once.

"What happened?" I asked suddenly. Frisk looked at me confused.

"During the genocide run." I explained. Frisk looked away.

"I'm not sure. I don't exactly remember. There were whispers in my ear and sometimes I just... Couldn't control myself. It's all a blur." Frisk explained quietly.

"I'm sorry." I murmured. They nodded and we talked about something else.

During the time I was recovering, I didn't see Sans that often. When I asked him about it he said that he had "work to do."

Finally, after five days, I finally felt well enough to be able to get up and walk around without too much pain. I walked out of Sans' room and went downstairs. Papyrus was making spaghetti with Frisk. They both had their back to me. Sans was nowhere to be found. I watched the skeleton and human for awhile before Frisk noticed me. They ran up to me and hugged me while smiling. I grinned.

Papyrus turned around and noticed me too.

"AH, HUMAN! ARE YOU FEELING BETTER?" Papyrus asked.

"Yep. Good as new." I said, which was a lie. I still had a lot of pain in my head, but it was bearable. I just didn't want to rain on Papyrus' parade. Frisk and him finished making spaghetti and offered me a bowl. I hesitantly took it and looked at Frisk.

"It's okay. I made sure it's edible." They whispered to me. I cautiously took a bite. It was surprisingly good. I ate the rest of it and asked for seconds. I hadn't eaten much while I was recovering from whatever I had, so I was really hungry.

Papyrus seemed happier then I had ever seen him. I grinned at him as I finished my second bowl.

"Good job." I complimented him and sat on the couch listening to him and Frisk talk.

"Hey, I'm going to go out." I told Frisk and they nodded and gave me their phone number.

"Wait Frisk, did you encounter Undyne yet?" I asked and they nodded.

"Mettaton too." They told me and I grinned.

"Nice job." I said and walked out. I decided to wander around Snowdin forest.

Eventually I came to Box road and I saved. I sat down on a nearby rock and swiped my hand down, bringing up the in-game menu. I checked my stats and my LV glitched out for a moment before going back to default.

Chara are you there? I asked, hoping that I wouldn't get an answer.

Aren't I always?

I sighed in defeat.

What are you waiting for? I asked. I didn't get an answer. I tried to figure it out. Chara hasn't made a move yet, probably because they can't. But why not?

Emotions. I thought suddenly. Everything revolves around emotions and determination. When I was angry or panicky, my magic activated. Then, when I had given up, thinking that everyone would betray me, Chara took over and I was sick for more than a week.

You're smart, aren't you? You can't always be on guard though. One day, you'll give up.

I thought you owned my soul.

I still need you to be weak.

Well don't count on it. I huffed and saved again. I walked to Sans' sentry station and found fresh footsteps. I decided to follow it. I tracked the footsteps until the door to the ruins came into view. I realized that Sans must be talking to Toriel through the door. I contemplated on whether or not I should spy on him or not. I let my curiosity get the best of me and went into the forest. I stealthily walked up to a spot where I could hear Sans' voice but where I was hidden. I crouched down and listened.

Okay. That's it for Part two of Chapter Eight. Hope you enjoyed. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA SLIGHT CLIFFHANGER. (Sorry for posting so much today)

So yeah. You figured out that Chara can only take control of you if your mentally weak. It takes a lot of energy away from them though, so that's why Chara didn't possess you when you were sick. You'll find out more later. There's probably a few things your wondering but I promise that almost everything will become clear towards the end of the book. Which might not be that far away. Maybe like 6 chapters? So this book might end at chapter 14. I'm not sure. We'll see.
Message me or leave a comment if you find a mistake. And thank you for all the reads, votes, and comments. This is my most successful book and I'm really happy. If you've read fallen then you've probably seen a lot of similarities. That's because I was basically using Fallen as practice. So yeah. Continue on with your life. Editing will probably be finished tomorrow or the day after.

Knowing that you've finally finished reading the Authors Note fills you with determination!
