Una's pov

As I sit in the dusty tunnel keeping watch while Topaz sleeps peacefully curled under a blanket my mind wanders back to District Nine.

But more specifically my friendship with Willow.
I really wish I volunteered for her back then because she would have made such a difference back in District Nine.

She had so much potential to maybe even be the mayor of the district.

I sigh softly as I play with the red ribbon that I formally had in my hair, I tie it around my wrist.

I hum an old tune from District Nine that I use to hear in the old wheat fields.

As I finish humming the last line about finding hope among the darkness I hear a noise coming from the tunnels .  Immediately I shake Topaz awake in fear.

A girl steps out.
Very petite, covered in dirt, I almost didn't recognize her.

"I need help, can one of you please help." The small girl Maya from District Eight mumbles.

I can smell the slight smell of burnt smoke in the distance.

Topaz looks at me sleepily , as if unsure what to make of the situation.

We talk for a few and Topaz decides she will help her.

But the thing is I don't trust Maya at all but I trust Topaz.

I watch them walk away and I slowly eat  a cracker my stomach in knots hoping that Topaz returns soon.

As the morning slowly continues I get more and more nervous.

I start to pace back and forth.

That's when I hear a bloodcurdling scream.

Grabbing my weapon I sprint towards it hoping im not too late.

As I get close I see the blood , and even worse I see a hand just lying on the ground removed from whoever's body it was attached too.

The screaming gets louder .

That's when I see her twisted and impaled in a trap in the ground . A tree jutting out through her back all the way through her stomach . There's also about ten snakes in here .

She's screaming in agony and my eyes sadden as I realize it's Topaz.

She's suffering.

I see her other hand just roughly sewed back on.

What type of monster could do something like this?

I throw up.

So much for being brave.

Topaz coughs up blood her eyes full of pain.

"I'm so sorry " I mutter , I grab my knife , and try to lean into the fit without falling in, because the snakes looked toxic .

I gently grasp my knife and shove it into Topaz's throat to end her pain and suffering .

As her cannon walks away I vow to get revenge on whoever did this to my friend.
