LOOKING OUT THE car windows towards the passing cars and watching as the ocean waves pour into the shore.

Lennon sighs happily seeing Summer and Margot looking around their surroundings as well.

Summer smiling at the thought of surprising Ari and the others as Lennon smiles thinking about finally seeing her mother after a year away.

"I'll see you later, okay Sum, Margot?" Lennon says getting out of the car Margot's renting for the next few months.

Summer nods and Margot waves a kiss towards the blonde girl who skips inside the house frowning at the quiet house.

"Mum?" Lennon calls out seeing one of her surfboards and one of her mother's surfboards missing, before her phone vibrates with an incoming call.

"Hey love, I saw you're home, the selection was moved to today, so meet me out front, sorry it's so rushed" Danielle-Lennon's mother says over the phone call.

"Hey, Mum, of course I'll see you soon" Lennon says hanging up the phone and running up the stairs towards her bedroom inhaling her favourite candle scent once her bedroom door opens.

Lennon quickly grabs a new pair of clothes and a bikini and rushes downstairs seeing her mother's jeep and smiling at the thought of driving to the selections competition.

"Hi baby, I'm home" Lennon says tapping her cars steering wheel before starting the vehicle and backing up towards the main road into town.

Smiling as she drives allowing one hand to move through the summer air outside.

"Two hands on the wheel Lenny" Danielle instructs seeing her daughter breaking the road rules.

Lennon rolls her eyes and points both hands on the steering wheel pulling into the amusement park holding the State Finals.

She laughs softy seeing Poppy's brother's RV parked in the parking space beside her mother's jeep.

Lennon skips inside seeing the wave pool and all of the people hoping for positions for the nationals surfing competition over the next few months.

The blonde girl walks in the direction of Summer seeing her talking into the microphone already breaking some of the surrounding rules of the State finals.

"Just can't help yourself can you, Summer?" Lennon smirks, Summer laughs at the blonde girl nodding her head seeing Poppy and Bodhi rushing towards Lennon from behind.

"Lenny, oh my gosh" Poppy shrieks jumping into her childhood best friend's arms.

"Pops, hi" Lennon says holding onto Poppy so she doesn't fall on the ground.

The girl jumps down from Lennon's waist and embraces Summer in a friendly hug.

Bodhi smiles at Lennon also hugging, missing her over the past year, "Len, it's been so lonely without you" Marlon states picking Lennon up from her waist into the air.

"Marls, put me down" Lennon shrieks giggling at her male best friend before seeing Summer staring at Ari coming out of the water.

Ari looks at the girl surprised before a blonde rushes up beside them wrapping a towel around Ari's neck kissing him.

Shocking both Lennon and Summer not expecting the boy to move on while they were gone.

"Wow" Lennon mouths looking at Poppy and Bodhi beside her, Poppy nods as Bodhi shrugs not knowing what to say about the situation.

Lennon waits seeing the girl and Ari still kissing, "Ari, not going to welcome me home?" Lennon calls out smirking at the dirty look the blondes giving her.

"Oh chill out blondie, I'm his cousin" Lennon mutters as Ari smiles at her and embraces his cousin in a hug welcoming her home, "God, I missed you Len" Ari says as she smiles at him.

"Of course you did, I'm awesome, kidding, I missed you too Ar" Lennon states smirking messing up at Ari's wet hair.

He rushes off towards the changing rooms to get ready for the next selection competition.

"I'm Wren" the blonde from before says holding out her hand for Lennon to shake.

"I'm Lennon" Lennon says shaking Wren's hands and smiling at her, "Do you surf?" Wren asks looking around making sure she won't miss the announcement.

"I do, but I'm not running for a spot in the competitions today as I have other plans" Lennon explains smirking at Poppy before looking back at the blonde seeing her nodding.

"Oh go, go" Lennon says hearing the announcement calling for the girls, "Talk later?" Wren says hoping to get to know her boyfriend's cousin,

Lennon nods as she follows Poppy, Bodhi and Summer into the locker rooms, "One of you could have told me about Wren, by the way" Summer says.

Lennon leans against the wall, "Excuse me? We've barely heard from you in months, unlike Lenny here, she messaged us every chance she could get" Poppy says.

"And we do have our own lives" Bodhi says, "Okay fair" Summer says, "So, you're still into Ari?" Bodhi asks as Summer blushes and gets all shy at the boys name.

"I think that's a yes" Poppy says as Lennon nods laughing softly.

"Okay, okay, you got me, I was looking forward to seeing him, whatever, I guess that ships sailed-anyway, how about you guys? What are you going to do now that we're back? Spill" Summer asks wanting to judge the conversation from other than her.

"Meh, the usual, comps and training but Bodhi's got someone on the go" Poppy says tapping Bodhi's arm playfully.

Lennon gasps happy for her friend, "Word, get it, Bodhi, tell me everything" Summer says.

"Yeah, maybe later, can we talk about how you're apparently a surfer now?" Bodhi asks looking at Summer shocked.

"And if you wanted to try out, why'd you leave it so late?" Poppy asks.

"Oh trust me, she's a good surfer, taught her some stuff while we were in New York" Lennon states shrugging earning a smile from Summer.

"I had no choice, I had exams, plus you have no idea what it took to convince my mom to take time off, Len-here, basically had to beg her to come back on the plane with her" Summer states as Lennon nods.

"She's in the parking lot right now sending emails" Summer states as Lennon frowns, "I thought all the surf beaches near you sucked" Poppy says.

"Oh they do" Lennon mouths towards Poppy, "No, they do-but I just kept going back with Lennon, at first it was to feel closer to you guys, but after a while it turned into something else, I love it-I don't know how else to say it" Summer says smiling.

"Yeah, sometimes she'd even go without me, wait to you girls see how badass she's got on the waves" Lennon says, "Oh, that's so beautiful, Sum-Sum" Poppy says.

Bodhi smiles and hugs Summer, as an announcement comes over the speakers calling for Bodhi's group to head out to the wave pool, "Alright, gotta get out there" Bodhi says.

"Kill it, Bodes" Summer says, "You got this" Poppy says as Bodhi heads out of the locker room, "Knock 'em dead, Bodes" Lennon calls out getting a smile from Bodhi.

Lennon walks out of the locker rooms seeing her mother running towards her, "Mum" Lennon says as Danielle embraces her daughter with a hug not having the chance earlier.

Lennon was too enchanted by her jeep, something her father gifted her, "Lenny" Danielle says growing emotional seeing her daughter for the second time today but missing a year of the blonde girls life.

"I missed you" Lennon says as Danielle nods agreeing, the mother and daughter don't really have a close relationship but in some circumstances, they still love each other.

Lennon looks over seeing Ari, Marlon, Manu and Poppy standing watching Bodhi compete, "I'll be over with them" Lennon says walking towards her friends receiving a nod from her mother.

Lennon smirks jumping on Marlon's back shocking him, "Oh my god Len, don't do that" Marlon says but continues to hold her steady on his back.

Poppy smirks at the two of them, "Ay, this team's gonna be all Shorehaven-baby, let's go" Manu says rubbing his hands together as Lennon laughs missing Poppy's brother craziness.

"Hey, Poppy said you might be State team coach, is that a rumour or true-mour?" Ari asks.

"Well, selectors are considering it, so fingers crossed, baby" Manu says as Poppy and Lennon both smile at them.

Lennon taps Marlon on the shoulder signally she's getting down, she walks over standing beside her best friend as the boys hype Manu up hoping for the coaching position.

Griffin comes up behind the group flirting with Poppy and welcoming Lennon back.

"Did you do what I asked Po?" Lennon asks looking at Poppy, "Lenny, of course I did, you're on this team as much as I am, we're both champions" Poppy says smiling at the blonde girl who embraces her with a hug.

Even though Lennon has been away for a year, the judges and others know the blonde surfer and swimmer can beat multiple records without competing.

"Thank you so much for that, I love you" Lennon says as Poppy shrugs not thinking it to be a big deal.

Lennon watches as one of the new faces show off their talent in the water, seeing the pink hair.

Lennon tilts her head, "Who's he?" Lennon asks leaning into Poppy.

"Oh, that's Baxter, but everyone calls him Bax, his from Queensland, Wren's brother" Poppy states seeing Lennon staring at the wave pool.

Poppy smirks seeing the sparkle in the blonde girls eyes before she taps Lennon on the back mentioning something about going to hype Bodhi up as her moves before were awesome.

Lennon frowns hearing her name being called seeing the selection judge panel calling her over.

"Lennon Samuels-Gibson?" one of the males say hoping they can put the face to the name.

"That's me" Lennon says politely, "You're one talented star aren't you? Thank you for sending in your applications and staying up to date with all of the competitions even though you've been in the United States for the past year" the male says.

Lennon nods, "No worries, I wasn't going to stop surfing and swimming just because I was away from Shorehaven, it's my life-thank you so much for giving me this opportunity" Lennon says shaking the man's hand who smiles at the blonde girl happily.

"Of course and I'm looking forward to your future in surfing and swimming, keep up your good work" the male says as another round of surfers enter the wave pool.

Lennon smiles turning around walking away from the panel seeing Summer coming back over with a frown on her face, "Sum? What's wrong?" Lennon asks.

"They aren't letting me run for a spot" Summer explains motioning to the judges on the panel.

"Oh god, this means you're going to do something about it aren't you?" Lennon groans.

Summer smirks at her grabbing a hold of Lennon's hand and forcing her to run after her seeing they're entering the boy locker rooms.

"Oh my god, if I see any dicks or asses I'm going to slap you Sum" Lennon groans seeing Ari looking at her.

Lennon shrugs and doesn't pay attention to their conversation until Ari basically spits in Summer's face telling her he won't help her.

Lennon feels a presence walk past her seeing the same guy from earlier smirking at her, Ari smiles, "Mate, how'd you go?" Ari asks.

"Yeah, alright" the guy says going towards his area as Lennon tunes out Ari and Summer's conversation once more.

Noticing the boy unzipping his wetsuit and becoming shirtless catching Lennon staring at him, he winks smirking at how quick Lennon looks away.

Ari walks out leaving Summer and Lennon in the changing rooms staring at one another.

"I'll help" the male states shrugging earning a smirk from Summer and a suspicious squint from Lennon.

As the plan to help Summer jump into the pool is set in motion, the boy rushes up seeing Lennon walk towards the entrance of the wave pool not wanting any part of the girl sneaking into the pool.

Lennon's lucky enough that her surfing and swimming is how it is at the moment, she doesn't need someone screwing it up for her and getting her thrown out of the state team.

Lennon rolls her eyes seeing the pink haired blonde walking beside her smirking at her, "Okay, what?" Lennon snarls growing annoyed and stopping her walk.

"I'm Baxter, but please call me Bax" Baxter states smiling at Lennon who rolls her eyes walking away and coming to a stance watching the surfers compete once more beside Manu and Danielle.

"I saw you met Baxter" Danielle says as Lennon nods, "Yep" Lennon mutters.

"Go easy on him sweetheart please" Danielle demands walking off once again leaving the arena knowing Lennon will find her own way home most likely with Poppy or someone else.

"Cheers, just leave me" Lennon mutters annoyed with her mother, "It's okay, Len, I'll drop you home, I'm sure everyone will end up at your cousin's anyways" Manu says shrugging and Lennon nods fist bumping him.

The announcement comes over the PA system that the next round is starting soon, Marlon, Ari, Bodhi, Manu and Lennon all stand together now.

"We're on, we're on" Manu says clapping excited to see his little sister compete, "Hey, Len, why didn't you compete, you're amazing?" Ari asks standing beside his cousin.

"I did compete, unlike Summer, I followed all of the rules and Poppy helped me follow the rules as well sending in video footage of all of my surfing and swimming tricks" Lennon explains.

Ari smiles growing more excited hearing his cousin might be on the state team as well, "Oh my god, that's awesome" Bodhi states overhearing.

"Sorry I didn't tell you guys, I just didn't want to jinx anything in case the judges didn't allow it for this round" Lennon explains before watching the wave pool once again hearing the annoyed judges call out for the pool invader to get out of the pool.

"Summer" Lennon mutters alongside Bodhi who looks annoyed, "Don't mess this up Summer" Lennon says under her breath.

Poppy and Wren verse one another, "Go Pops" Lennon calls out alongside the others.

Ari calls out for Wren getting a smack on the back of the head from both Lennon and Manu, "Sorry Coach, Len, I'm going for both" Ari explains, Lennon gags at the love sick teenager.

Eventually, the girls get out of the pool and Lennon looks at Summer annoyed as do many of the others but congratulate her anyways because her surfing was amazing.

"Thank Lennon, she was the one to teach me some of the pointers" Summer says pointing towards the blonde who shrugs.

"You did good Sum" Lennon says as the judges announce over the speakers explaining the scores are being tallied together and the state teams will be made up of members later on today, moving on to the next round, The Nationals.

Lennon ends up going back to Ari's house wanting to catch up with her family other than her mother.

"Lenny, is that you?" Abbie says capturing Lennon's attention who smiles at her aunt.

"Hi Abs" Lennon says hugging someone who is basically her second mother, hearing a car pull up outside she guesses it's Summer and Margot and possibly even Honey.

Abbie told her she's been so focused on learning how to skateboard since last year, "Get a room" Lennon says seeing Ari and Wren making out in the kitchen.

"Go away, Len" Ari states kissing his girlfriend once more, "No seriously, get a room, it's gross" Lennon says flicking her cousin on the cheek before smirking at Wren who's giving her an annoyed glare.

"If you think making out with your boyfriend in the middle of their kitchen is respectful, who did you grow up with?" Lennon states walking out of the kitchen towards the others who've just arrived hearing Wren groan out in annoyance sensing Summer is inside with Honey now.

"Len; come here" Poppy says noticing her best friend's appearance, "Hi, Pops, what's up?" Lennon asks leaning against the table munching on a strawberry from the fruit platter on the table.

"I really hope you get into the team, it'll be awesome to surf with you again" Poppy states as Lennon looks at her weirdly.

"Pops, even if I don't get into the team, we can still surf together?" Lennon asks seeing Summer coming outside along with the others.

"Have you guys heard anything? It's like, just name the State team already" Poppy says refreshing her phone over and over again, as Lennon laughs.

Lennon looks over at the house overhearing voices seeing Wren and Baxter coming to the table pushing one another, "Wait, I know that guy" Summer states.

"Wren's brother Baxter, he's a pryo, so you guys should get along" Bodhi says smiling at Summer as Lennon looks at the boy once more.

"Excuse me?" Summer asks slightly offended, "Apparently after Nationals last year at Carvers Bay, Baxter burnt down the Boardriders Clubhouse" Bodhi explains.

Baxter makes eye contact with Lennon winking at her, "And he got kicked off the Queensland team and they moved down here" Poppy explains putting her phone away.

"Pretty rough for Wren" Bodhi says, "Well, he's super helpful" Summer states looking at Lennon.

"Also, Wren's a litterer, last November, Tuesday afternoon, outside Farouk's Fish n Chips, she threw a sauce container at the bin, it missed went into the gutter-she didn't even do anything, she just left it there, that's all I needed to know" Honey states as the girls laugh softly.

"Honey, you're the real reason I came back" Summer says fist-bumping the younger girl, "Oh by the way, Pops, totally love that shirt" Lennon says.

Poppy gasps, "You can burrow it anytime, same as that dress, obsessed" Poppy states and the girls share laughter in between one another.

Night soon falls and the group of teenagers are yet to hear anything about the State teams so as the group hangs out.

Abbie, Danielle and Margot come outside showing the friends videos of Lennon, Ari and Summer as young kids, "Wait, wait, wait, this is my favourite bit" Abbie says.

A part of the video shows and Lennon looks around not liking the video, "Summer, Len, is that actually you two and Ari?" Poppy asks shocked.

"This is back when you took directions" Margot states looking at her daughter before Danielle smiles looking at how young and happy Lennon was back then before everything happened between the two of them.

Lennon notices Wren's face drop seeing Summer all over Ari, Lennon walks towards the blonde girl despite having a weird feeling about the girl she comforts her.

"Hey, don't worry about them, they've always been like this" Lennon says softy as Wren smiles at her before nodding agreeing with the blonde girl.

"Thanks Lennon" Wren says, "You can call me Len, you know?" Lennon says tilting her head.

Wren smiles happily at her new friend and hugs her, as all of their phones ding with new emails and messages.

Happy gasps are heard from around the area signally those who have made to the state team.

Wren smiles, "And I'm team captain" Wren states as Lennon looks at Poppy shocked knowing how hard Poppy worked for that position.

Poppy and Lennon both notice Bodhi bury her head in her hands and rush up towards her pushing her hair out of her face.

Bodhi smiles at them both letting them know she's in, all three hug one another happy they're all through to the next rounds, "Wait, how did you get into the team Len?" Wren asks confused.

"Oh, right-sorry, while I was away in New York; I had my best friend help me send in my application videos of me doing my tricks and she helped me not miss any of the competitions, and I sent the selectors my recent video of doing a trick and they allowed it obviously" Lennon explains as Wren and Ari both gasp happy for the blonde girl.

"Oh my gosh, congratulations Len" Ari says smiling even wider knowing his cousin's in the team, "I knew you're one talented girl" Wren says wrapping her arms around Lennon, smiling at her.

Lennon and Poppy both notice someone's missing from the group, "Oh no" Lennon says rushing out towards where Marlon is walking as Poppy follows behind her best friend.

"Marlon, wait up" Poppy calls out as Marlon comes to stop seeing his two best friends running towards him.

"It's okay, I'm just gonna get an early night" Marlon says trying to hide his hurt from Lennon and Poppy.

"I'm so sorry" Poppy says as Lennon hugs him, "It'll be okay, go celebrate, you both deserve it, you're both gonna carry this team, see ya" Marlon says leaving the Gibson household leaving Lennon and Poppy sharing glances.

"He could've had my spot, he deserves it more" Lennon says shocked, "That's not true, Lenny" Poppy says.

The two girls walk back towards the area where the others are celebrating together.

Bodhi, Poppy, Lennon and Wren sit around the table giggling together.

Baxter stands behind them, "I'm in, they gave me a wildcard spot, I'm on the team" Summer states.

Poppy and Lennon both share worried glances as Baxter leans against the seat Lennon's sitting in.

"They let a heat crasher in, that's sick" Baxter says leaning over Lennon to grab some food on the table.

Lennon scoffs unaware she's checking him out as he does so, inhaling his cologne while doing so realising his smells decent.

Lennon curses at herself in her head before locking eyes with the boy who winks at her again and she scoffs putting her middle finger up at him.

"Well, this is either great or terrible" Poppy states as Lennon nods agreeing with her, but gets up anyways walking towards the mother and daughter duo sharing a hug.

"Congratulations Summer" Lennon says hugging the brunette once Margot finishes her.

Danielle looks at her daughter approaching her, "Lennon, congratulations" Danielle says.

Lennon smiles happily hugging her mother, "Thanks mum" Lennon whispers breaking away from the hug seeing her shocked face.

Baxter walks closer to the blonde girl now noticing she's alone and away from the group.

"Well it's now my time to congratulate you, princess, you're one talented girl" Baxter says leaning against wall next to Lennon.

"Wow, thank you, heard some crazy stories about you too" Lennon says holding her heart over her dress.

"Yeah like what?" Baxter says leaning closer to the blonde girl smirking.

"That you're a bad boy who got into some major trouble last year" Lennon smirks noticing Bax's face drop.

"You don't know what happened, so don't act like you do" Baxter states walking off.

"Jesus Bax, I was joking" Lennon calls out but turns around once more grabbing some more food from the platter on the table.
