Chapter 8

Whoops, sorry, no. Scratch that last line. Chris, went. Why I didn't go? I try to make an effort of not embarrassing myself, and after the hallway fiasco, I have a lot to make up for.

Pacing the front entrance, I tried to think this over. I had to summon my tail. What if when I go out of water it doesn't go on its own? What if I have to un-summon it? All of a sudden, Chris came out, but I noticed he had his tail.

"Explain," I demanded while pointing my finger at him. "You have to summon your legs,"

Knew it.

I laughed nervously. "Uh, yeah duh, I mean it's not like I've been a human my whole life. Honestly, Chris, you're great at explaining when I have a question, but you also seem to have this problem of not explaining when I need to do some magic... Thing," I said, wiggling my fingers on the last part. "Alright, listen. You swim straight forward," he said while demonstrating with his hands, "then right at the edge, pull up!" He said as his hand flipped up. "Then summon your legs, and land on your feet," he used two fingers as little legs. I watched them wiggle around. Laughing, I nodded.

"Ready? Also, mind where you're landing. Okay?"

"Okay,"

We went inside at the same time. Flicking my tail, I pulled up and summoned my legs. I thought of running, and dancing, and kicking, and walking. Oh my god, I sound like Ariel.

But, it worked. My legs emerged just as I left the water. I was wearing the green dress, it must've transformed back.

Nonetheless, I had done it! Except, I was too high. The ground was coming closer when I saw someone hold out there arms.

Chris caught me cradle style. I was wide eyed. That was too close for comfort, I love the floor and all but I'd rather feel it with my feet than my face. I looked at Chris in a grateful way. "Thanks," I said.

"It's fine," we sat there for a few seconds just smiling at eachother. I realized I was still in his arms. Red faced, I looked away and he set me down. My eyes wandered the the room. My breath was sucked out of me. It was amazing. At the top was a hanging sign. It read, "welcome to sea spire mall!"

Where I lived, there wasn't a mall like this! I only ever saw them on tv! But not even the ones on tv could compare. A single grand stair case was in the front, marble of course, then split in two, going opposite ways. I looked up and saw wrap around balconies of store after store. There were five elevators on either side of me and the first floor was dedicated to small cafés. Walking to the center I gazed up. 6 stories! 6 floors of...of... I can't even find a word. The walls were a beautiful marble, I mean where there was a wall. All the little cafés and shops were on top of eachother, side by side, like toys at a toy store. Well, I mean, honestly, I felt like I was already at one!

Chris guides me along the first floor behind the staircase was a huge common area. It was doorway after doorway! There were no actual doors just a large opening, about two or three stories high. Honestly, it reminded me of that common are in wreck-it-Ralph! Obviously more glamorous. The marble... Everything, was molded with gold. There were cushioned benches along the middle, it's fabric, a deep sea blue.

I just couldn't breath. On the ceiling there was just... Glass. We could see the ocean above us, all the sea creatures swimming around. It was amazing.

We walked for about 10 minutes, he explained to me all these amazing foods.

Seaweed wraps, some chips called coral crunch, but also, since water spirits are disguised as humans, they had, steak, chicken, fruits and vegetables.

We arrived at a doorway marked, city hall. We walked through a long hallway till we walked into this large room. There were some people sitting, waiting, I guess. The walls were lined with books, records maybe. Of course, marble walls lined the room. But instead of gold, brass moldings dominated the corners. There was a front desk in the front. A woman that looked like she was in her forties sat there. She had her blonde hair in a bun and librarian glasses. She was wearing a nice purple blouse, with black dress pants. We walked up. "Citizen registration, please," Chris said.

She had been reading and looked up through the top of her eyes. "Chris Stewart, you are already have citizenship," she said, she looked annoyed. He shook his hands, I guess he didn't want this lady upset, I should note that. "Oh no, it's for her," She looked at me for the first time and gasped.

Scooting back her chair she gasped, "Lilly,"

I stepped up, "no, I'm...I'm her daughter," I said, did everyone know my mother?

She was slightly crying, "Lilly was my best friend," she said. She removed her glasses and I really got to look at her. She was very pretty. Her eyes were a shocking blue and they were lined with dark, black eyeliner, but not too much. She had red lipstick on and a small amount of blush. Her skin tone was not too pale, but not too tan, for her, that is.

But I got the real surprise when I realized, I recognized her! My eyes went wide and my brow furrowed, basically my two signature facial expressions in one. "I see your confusion. Emily, was it? How's Jacob?" She said, a wide smile sprawled on her face. "But, how..." Was all I could manage,"

"You were going into 1st grade, and Jacob kindergarten. I went to visit her. We went out for hot chocolate and you put on a fashion show for us. You were so adorable! The spitting image of your mother. Then Jacob and you put on a puppet show! That was the last time I saw your mother... Down here we do know that she has passed. We have a water spirit living up there,"

"Who?" I asked.

"Ms. Ryan, I believe she is a librarian,"

My mouth gaped open. "But... She's the one who told me about the legends... And..." I stuttered. "Well, if she didn't tell it that way, people would get suspicious. Anyway, clearing our names is a long shot, it's almost too late," she sighed. "So, citizenship!" She said, her cheery self returning.

"Name,"

"Emily Maria Clark,"

"Date of birth,"

"October 29, 2000,"

"Eight grade?"

"Yes,"

"How was your full power reached?"

I turned to Chris, "I needed it,"

She looked up and smiled. "Alright, you are done. Emily Maria Clark, you are officially a citizen of Cold Caribbean!" She exclaimed.

I turned to Chris and he had a wide grin plastered to face.

But then we heard the screams.
