Chapter 5

The doors opened. There was a large desk, and bookcase after bookcase of...books. A elder man sat at the desk. He was watching a video as he talked. "Now, Emily, yes that was it. You are a mystery," he said, I assumed he was watching me in that room. "My name is Jon Ryder,"

I almost choked. My mom said that was the name of her father. Before she married my dad she was Lilly Ryder. "My mom... She said it was the name of her father," I croaked. Jon and Chris stared in astonishment. "Lilly," Jon whispered under his breath. "Oh my god, you look just like her. The curly brown hair, and the green eyes... Oh, Lilly," he was crying. I stood still as he came closer. "Call my wife," Chris did as he was told. "I know this is not the moment... But...where am I?" I asked.

He looked at me, "she never told you... Emily, your mother was a water spirit. Everyone here are water spirits," he said. I stared wide eyed. I took a step back. "Air, legs?" I asked. "We are not only water beings," he said. But the legends... Could I be one of them?

"The legends... Blue vampires?" I asked. He furrowed his brow. "Completely misunderstood!" He huffed. He reminded me of my mom. Always quick to defend herself. "And they attacks?" I said, "especially the one on me?" I added. "Misunderstandings," he argued.

"I'm sure," I said with one eyebrow raised. At that moment a woman walked in with Chris. Daisy Ryder I assumed. Both her and her husband had grey hair. Hers was short and she had green eyes. Jon's was blue. He also had a stout mustache. "Emily..." She said coming in for a hug. I stopped her. "Can't really hug," I said as I shook my hands in shackles. Chris quickly unlocked me. "Sorry," he mumbled.

I then hugged her. "What is this place?" I asked. Not sure if that was a good idea, my head ached already. "Do you like it? It's the human specialist office!" He said with a lot of enthusiasm. "I mean, so far I've seen it from a prison cell view," I argued. "Our apologies, really. Oh my, you look just like her. The curly brown hair and green eyes!" Daisy said.

"Daisy, Jon-"

"You can call us grandpa and grandma!"

"Um...Okay what you said... Am I a water spirit?" I asked, but I think I already know what the answer is. "Technically, your only have but..." Jon answered. Daisy stepped forward. "Your mother was a water spirit, so when she and your father had you you became half. So I am guessing you have a sibling?" Daisy explained.

"Yes, Jacob,"

"He is not a water spirit. You are not half water spirit, you are a water spirit, you are half out of two siblings. If your mother only had you then you would be one or you wouldn't, we don't know," she explained. I thought... I mean I would've noticed if I was, I wouldn't have been drowning that day with the seaweed. "But, I've always been human," I argued.

"Natural water spirits, where both parents are water spirits, don't reach their ultimate power until a special moment. Some are when something amazing happens, something extremely sad, or maybe just anger. But you, when you were drowning, you NEEDED your powers, and you didn't even know about them! That water spirit in the back of your mind sensed that it was time. Why? Because you refused to give up." Jon, sorry grandpa, explained. "You are one of a kind," grandma said.

"I'm sure, Chris, you would like to show Emily around?" Daisy asked. "Oh yeah! No problem Ms. Ryder!"

He led me through the intricate hallways. They were painted lime green and the molding were orange. The colors, were beautiful on there own, but a bit clashing together. "My eyeballs hurt," I said out loud. Chris smiled.

"Sorry about...earlier," I apologized. "No problem, I would have acted worse if I was in your situation," he explained. "Yet you guys don't think about that when your doing it to someone else," I exclaimed. He scratched the back of his head, as if he was saying, whoops. "So... Where am I?" I asked. "Okay, complicated again. This is star cliff city, on the outskirts of point hope, in the sea star district, in the kingdom of Cold Caribbean," he said. He looked at me to make sure I was still alive. "Okay..." I said.

"And your from here?" I asked. "Yeah my moms from here but my dads from north Bermuda," he explained.

"There are two parts of the city. The sea star district, which is completely air. Buildings connected to buildings forming a city. And the angel fish district. That's underwater. We use our tails," he said. "So the tales are true about tails," I said smiling. He chuckled. "You definitely are your grandfathers relative," he said and walked on. "One question," I asked. He spun around.

"Where's my dad?" I asked. "He's missing?" Chris asked. "The reason I was out at sea, was because I was looking for my dad," I said. Chris seemed to think. "He didn't work on the ship called 'Sea Sally' did he?"

"Why?"

"I'm sorry,"

"What happened to my father!"

"He's a captive, on his way to north Bermuda, he's probably there already,"

"You imprisoned him then shipped him off to some... Fish town!" I yelled. I started walking off. He chased after me. "Okay look, no, he's not a prisoner, a captive is where they can't leave, but I treated like an almost citizen. A prisoner is a prisoner," he said, "look, I really am sorry,"

I spun around to face him. "Then take me to north Bermuda," I said calmly. "I can't," he said. Even though he looked genuinely sorry I didn't care. I stormed off. "It's a maze! You'll never be able to find your way out alone!" He called after me. I ignored him.

I wandered these stupid halls for about an hour. Eventually, I just sat down and cried. My dad was in north Bermuda, and Jacob was all alone in point hope. After the whole out of a cell thing, they were nice. But I can't leave. I'm beginning to think that I'm a captive. Chris sat down next to me. "How'd you find me?" I asked, wiping my tears. Me had the look of uh oh again. "...security cameras," he said. He was watching the whole time. "You guys have no sense of privacy," I said as I got up to wander again. "I have orders to escort you to your bedroom," he explained.

"Oh, well then, I guess I'll just do as I'm told, or I give you orders to not!" I yelled. "Your not eligible to do that," he said. "Oh really," I turned to face him when he threw me over his shoulders. "You can't carry me the whole way!" I yelled while I pounded on his back. We walked into a room and he dropped me on a bed. "Goodnight," he said and turned to walk to the door. I leapt after him and he just pushed me away and closed it. "That door better not be locked!" I yelled. "What...no..." He said on the other side. I wiggled the handle. No luck. It was locked. "You liar!" I screamed at the top of my lungs.

Looking around I noticed a security camera, in the room! I climbed on this wooden desk and ripped the camera off the wall. My foot shifted and something fell off the desk. Picking it up I recognized the woman in the picture frame. It was my mother. Walking to the plush bed, I put the picture under the green pillows. The light switch was on those horribly colored walls. Switching it off, I climbed into bed.

I hope the next day is better.
