Chapter 18
He sucked in his breath. I can't say I didn't do the same. He summoned his legs when he walked into the kitchen. He was wearing a red polo with jeans. He had attempted to comb his hair, but it's wild, amazing joy couldn't be contained. His midnight blue features contrasted with the light, or I think it was just me.
Chris's mouth opened and closed. "Emily..." He smiled goofily. "Chris," I smiled. I couldn't help but smirk, I was usually the one lost for words. "So what did you have planned?" I asked while I transformed my tail, to exit the house. Doing the same he stuttered. "D...dinner," he breathed. "Okay," I said expectantly. He stared at me, so I rose my eyebrows. "Oh, right, dinner," he said.
"Yeah,"
"Dinner,"
"Dinner..."
Regaining his charisma, he recovered shock. "It's in the sea star district. Oyster grill, one of the best restaurants around, I can assure you," he explained. We went into the districts main entrance.
Shop through shop we walked, as I stared in awe at the selections. Occasionally I'd glance at Chris and notice him looking at me. "What?" I finally asked. "You," he said. "Me what" I asked.
He just grinned the goofiest grin. Rolling my eyes he grabbed my hand. My first instinct was to take it back, and reconsider my decision coming here. I was still me, but my sea whisp self was a part of me that I had tried to always be before.
So I held his hand.
Guiding me up an escalator, we finally reached the restaurant. Oyster grill, was a high ceiling restaurant with plush cushions, a live jazz band, and beautiful paintings scattered around. I gasped.
"How much will this be?!" I asked. This was obviously a five star restaurant. "The owner Jim owes me a favor," he smiled. I slightly punched him in the arm before I -surprisingly- kissed him on the cheek. We both gazed at eachother. "Emotion shift..." I sighed. "Yea..." He breathed back.
"Chris!" A hefty man came over, wearing a button down apron and black pants. He had jet black hair and was starting to bald, but he had dark green eyes which portrayed hints of excitement. He had that fatherly look about him.
He looked me over. "So this is what you needed your favor for. I believe you used the term urgent. Bringing the girlfriend out, eh?" He implied. We stared wide eyed. "Oh no, she's not my girlfriend," he explained. "Right. Just don't tell my wife you take the girls out, then she'll make me go out to dinner left and right," he winked.
"Papa jimmy!" A woman shrieked. "Ah, speak of the angel. YES!!!!!!!!!" He called out. A angry looking woman stormed out of the kitchen and toward us. Her brown hair was in a ponytail and her hazel eyes dazzled against the slight beige eyeshadow. "You let the pizza burn!" She said, gesturing to the black circle she held on a wood slate. "Oh! I was just talking to young Chris here and..."
"Emily," I helped. "Emily!" He continued. She immediately brightened. "Ah..." She smiled. Then became angry again. "You never take me out to dinner!" She said. "Now get back to work," she finished, and before she left flashed a smile at us.
"What did I tell you," he sighed, waiving over a waiter to seat us before having to return to another call of 'papa jimmy'. Muttering something as recalled as Italian, he left to the kitchen.
"This way," the waiter gestured. After we had been seated, I looked at Chris. "Quite the characters," I said, sipping from my water. "Yea, they're much sometimes but-"
"I love them!" I cut off, beaming. He visually relaxed. "I'm just glad you came," he said.
"Well, considering I don't know anyone in star cliff city, I guess I didn't have a choice," I shrugged, smirking from behind my glass. "Ha," Chris said.
"I'm kidding, but really, thank you so much for taking me," I said gratefully.
He smiled, and looked down at the menus placed before us. "It would be a shame if we didn't order the restaurants signature oysters, wouldn't it," he smirked. I smiled back.
"A shame indeed,"
