Chapter 13

"Emily!" The ground was engulfing the person. "Chris, I need you to trust me," I pleaded. Chris's dark blue eyes stared into my green ones, but then his suddenly turned black. "I will never trust you, I can't believe I'm dying for a stupid girl," he answered. "Chris, I can save you from the ground," I explained. He looked up at me from the hole, his eyes black, a carnivorous smile plastered on his face. "I'm not the one who needs saving," he growled. Emerging from the hole, he grabbed my shoulders, yanking me into the hole; switching our places. The ground clawed at me, ripping my skin bare. Screaming, I tried to yank it off. It was around my neck, constricting me. "You were always nothing, not even a real sea whisp," he cackled. I looked up, my face engulfed except for my eyes and mouth. "Chris..." And it was black.

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh," I screamed. I was still in the hospital, doctors surrounded me, there faces dumbstruck. Everyone was silent until I spotted Chris. No, no no! The dream, it felt so real.

It hurt.

"Emily, what's wrong?" He asked, walking up. I cowered to the back of the bed. Tears stained the sheets. "No... Stay away..." I sobbed. Every head turned to him. "I didn't do anything. What happened?" He pleaded. I knew what I was feeling was wrong, but my skin still burned.

He reached forward and touched my hand. I whimpered and cried. "Please... Don't hurt me..." I said.

Chris's dark blue eyes looked like I had broken his heart, and I think I did. But the image of his black beady eyes and evil smile made me think twice. Chris turned away and walked out the door, slamming it. My grandparents looked at me, a mix of confusion, anger, surprise, sadness, and joy ( from me being alive)

My grandfather walked up to me and wiped a tear. "What happened, sea bean?"

I told them about the dream. After every single person in the room assured me it was a dream, I told them how real it felt. "Oh, you see, Chris will explain, we wanted him too. So you must forgive him, it may have felt real but it wasn't," grandma explained.

I guess I was acting ridiculous. After what had happened, the dream, the medicine, I was acting weird. "...um... Can you call him over?" I asked, sheepishly. She smiled and nodded, but the smile didn't reach her eyes.

He arrived at the door, not looking me in the eyes. Everyone seemed to wait in anticipation, like watching the juicy part of a tv show. "Can we be alone...please," I asked in a mouse voice. They all blinked, then came to their senses. Scuttling out of the room, every pair of eyes glanced at us.

"Alone..." I said.

He remained silent, and it scared me to death, and now thanks to that dream, I know the feeling.

"What the hell happened?" he whisper-screamed.

"I-"

"What the hell happened?!" He shouted.

"I don't know!" I shouted.

Don't cry. Don't cry.

He strides over, his big steps would never match mine. I stay frozen, I'm going to take whatever he does, I deserve it. He reaches over and hugs me. I just sobbed in his arms.

"What wrong with me?" I asked. "Nothing, just... Circumstance," he said, wiping my tears. "I need to talk to you," he concluded.

"Okay,"

"You see, 20 years ago there was a war, a war with king Kyro. He was the kind of America's ground, all of America. See, king Kendro, king Kasper, king Kyro, and queen Kiira are all siblings. Every place has the four element kings, they are America's. For minor countries, other kings, not necessarily sea whisps for example, share a space,"

I furrowed my brow to show I was listening.

"Sea whisps are actually America's water spirit, mermaids are from Europe, they just like it here. King Kendro is the king of the sea whisps, king Kasper is the king of the snow willows, queen Kiira is queen of the sky titans, and king Kyro is king of the earth shadows. Everyone lived in harmony, until King Kyro became corrupted, he raged war on his siblings. He could never reach Kiira, and honestly she never fought to help her brothers. Kasper was hit the hardest. Kyro was jealous because Kasper had his own reign on part of the world for a while,"

"When?" I asked.

"The ice age. But he didn't do it as an act of war, the earth naturally goes through changes, but if all the kings, even the ones out of America, didn't make climate changes the earth wouldn't be able to survive. So far we've had the ice age, now every species of sky beings are making global warming, it's not even the globe at all! The only rule is, the elements can't make a change if it hurts the other, and that's when Kyro comes in. He wanted to have a ground changing, but permenantally, and only him, another rule is all the other element beings must agree. He wanted to make the whole earth ground, and keep water where he wanted it, with Kendro and other waters under command,"

I looked at my hands, I am a water being, this is my problem, too.

"What happened?" I asked, tears gone, a new determination in place.

"We fought back lost many soldiers... And many innocents, like my parents. When my parents died the war was almost over. We never knew how your mother Lilly died, but know we do. She was killed by Kyro, but the war was over five years before! What happened to you was another attack, him trying to get Lilly's daughter. Remember that girl being poisoned?"

I nodded.

"We traced her family tree and found out she's a distant cousin, we think he's targeting your family specifically," Chris said. I gulped. "Why?" I croaked.

He looked at me for a few seconds. "We don't know,"

"I'm sorry," I said.

"About what?"

"About everything. Me almost dying which made you risk your life, what I...said, what I...did... Multiple times..., my strange voice taking, me... hurting you,"

"It's alright,"

I hugged him, yawning.

"It's late, you need to sleep, I have a sleep inducing medicine to give you, but it only works with something happy. For little kids we bring in their sea dogs, or give them a trip to the Caribbean, just a happy feeling," he said.

"How do you inject it?" I asked.

He pulled out a freaky looking needle.

I don't like needles.

"How can I be happy when your putting that in me?!?! Which, by the way, you aren't!" I argued, eyes wide at the torture device.

"Trust me, it'll be fine," he said, coming closer.

"What about the happy memory?" I asked, the needle coming closer.

"Come in," Chris called. Jacob walked in, and I couldn't help feel utmost joy. But, as Chris plunged in the needle and everything started fading, an arm wrapped around Chris's mouth and body dragging him away. I heard shouts and saw movement but my vision was already black. There was only a few more seconds till I was completely out.

I recognized the touch of Chris's hand grab mine. "Emily, everything will be okay,"

I have one thing to say, taking in account all that's happened to me.

Okay is becoming overrated.
