Chapter 32

The rest of the day passed surprisingly nicely for Lorraine. It was time to relax so most people were lounging on the couch while some were playing outside.

During sunset, Jimin took her to the beach again and watched it with his fingers tangled with her own. She loved it when he smiled the way he did. With his eyes closed as to let the warm breeze caress his sunburnt cheeks.

She felt connected to him. Every time she looked at him, her heart pulled strings.

Then night settled in and her group of friends perched by the bonfire, roasting marshmallows and having the time of their lives. Her ears filled with their overlapping laughter, Jimin sitting beside her and snickering at something Ivey had said.

Lorraine was talking to Yoongi about production. The rapper had said that he wanted to try movie production in Hollywood so she had offered to talk to some directors for him.

She looked at her side to see the sea, the waves more energetic than before, clashing loud against the shore as if calling her towards them.

She excused herself and detached away from the group, going towards the sea as the strong wind hit her bare skin as her dress was backless. The sea had always been so beautiful, eerie and mind-numbing yet so, so comforting.

The mood sadly wasn't showing its beauty tonight. Hiding, missing. Just like the moon, she felt something missing in her life, like a piece that wasn't in the puzzle. She stood there silently, staring at the moonless sky, the shores drenching the hem of her dress.

She didn't realise when Jimin had approached her until his hands grazed her bare back, on her tattoo. She stiffened as his hot breath fanned her ear before his face buried in the crook of her neck.

"Jimin," she breathed. The man hummed in response. She inhaled sharply.

"Are you sure you can handle me?"

She knew the question would catch him off guard, bit she needed to let it out because she didn't want to hurt Jimin. Not intentionally or unintentionally, ever.

"Why'd you ask that?" He blurted.

She sighed and turned around to face him.

"Because I'm- more fucked up than you think." She admitted.

"What does that even mean?"

She didn't say anything, she didn't know how to explain it. So she just looked down.

"Raine, is it about that night? When you pushed me away?"

Her eyes snapped up by how accurate Jimin was.

"It is, isn't it? You panicked. Why did you panick?" He urged more, hands grabbing her shoulders.

"My brain- fucks me up. I felt too much and I got scared." She answered.

"Everyone gets scared by feelings, Lorraine. You acted like someone was out there to get you. What happened to you?"

"Jimin... I've never..." She faltered, shivering. She wanted to say it, really. But she had never spoken about it so she couldn't form words, it was harder than she thought it'd be.

His hands cupped her face, forcing her to look at him. "You can tell me. It's fine."

"I was...stabbed...by my father."

Her bottom lip quivered and a tear fell down her eye without warningly. She could see that Jimin hadn't expected this at all. Who'd even expect that? His mouth agape and eyes wide.

"What?" He blurted out.

"He was an alcoholic. They were tied by money and they used to fight every night. A night like that they were fighting in the house, they were in the bar and we're throwing bottles at each other. My dad was going to stab my mother so I pushed him. So he stabbed me instead."

More tears flew down her eyes when she realised that she didn't deserve any of it. She was an innocent child at that time and no sould deserves to be abused. Remembered the way her body was lying limp on the floor till the morning, a pool of blood was forming below her but no one was coming to save her. Not until a housemaid dared to call the police.

The next time Jimin's hand caressed her cheek, it was shaking.

"Why- why...?" He asked. "Who'd do that to their child?"

She laughed through her tears. "Oh, I tried to expose his business that's why. Behind the clean slate, he had ties with mafia organisations into some really nasty business so I tried to contact reporters but how much can a teenager do?" She explained. "They flew the news that I was losing my mind and tripped over on the fucking shattered bottle like...what the fuck?!"

She weeped her pain out.

"

That's why you panicked? When we were attacked in the car?" Jimin asked.

She nodded and Jimin didn't waste a second before drawing her in for a tight hug. Her face buried in his shirt, his chest was warm and his hold was protective.

"Why didn't you tell me before?! I was so...angry at you without knowing the reason. I even shouted at you-"

"I didn't want to look back. I had come so far from it, I never- wanted to look back because I'm not that person anymore, Jimin. And I don't want you treating me like I'm in need of help or I'm weak because you've heard this now."

"No, never." He refused, stroking her hair. "You're the strongest person I've ever known, how can I treat you that way?"

"I fucking love you." Lorraine said, her voice raw with emotions. The next thing she knew, Jimin had connected their lips in a deep kiss, indulging and bare.

"I can handle this." He said Between the kiss, drawing her closer from her waist. "Fuck- think I fell in love with you all over again."

They kissed for several long moments before drawing apart. Decided on going back to their friends but half of them had already went inside the house.

They sat there with Taehyung and Namjoon until the elder one decided that he'd best go to sleep too. She felt Jimin's head dropping on her shoulder, asleep, so Taehyung and her were that were left.

The man warmed up his hands against the fire, rubbing them together before looking at Lorraine. He smiled silently and Lorraine returned it.

"Thank you," He said with his deep voice.

She gave him a questioning look and Taehyung gestured towards Jimin, who hummed lowly in sleep before nuzzling closer to Lorraine. Taehyung laughed at his cuteness.

"He worships you, Lorraine."

Taehyung admitted. Lorraine chuckled at the choice of words. The latter shook his head.

"I mean it." He insisted. "He had been stuck in a bad place since very long."

"Because of his brother?" Lorraine asked.

Taehyung raised his eyebrows, pausing, not expecting for Lorraine to know it. But then he nodded.

"When he came back from LA after meeting you, he deserted us and acted on impulse, came to practice drunk and didn't eat. We were scared that it all might trigger his episodes again. Then at the award show too, it was frightening to have a scandal like that but he could only focus on you. I observed that you weren't in a good place either but you still came to Korea to support us and then you brought us all here for a break... You're a great person."

Lorraine looked down, hearing his words intently. "I...I don't know how to thank those words, Taehyung."

"No, you don't need to. Because Jimin's been...happier. He looks happier having you close and that's all I want for him."

She nodded. "I'm glad. He cares a lot about you guys, you know? He was so scared when you were about to...disband. Said that he didn't know how to function without a group."

Taehyung's lips parted, knowing damn well he was the cause of it all. "Right."

"How do you guys even cope up with it all? You're so true to yourself and your fans. There's no veil obscuring how you truly feel and it...helps them connect to you."

"You talk very deep." Taehyung said, his sharp features melting into soft ones as his lips stretched into a boxy grin.

She just shrugged. "Thespian."

"True." He said. "Do you need help taking him to your room?" He offered. She looked over at Jimin who was still in his dreamland, oblivious to the people talking about him.

He must've gotten tired. Lorraine's mind threw in an instant, she gulped. She was whipped now.

"Uh...no thanks, I'll just wake him up,"

"Goodnight Lorraine"

He looked at Jimin once again, he cared so much for his bes friend. They were more than a family. Something Lorraine never had.

"Goodnight, Taehyung."

Lorraine lightly shook Jimin several times to wake him up from his sleep, slightly shivering as it was getting cold outside. Jimin peaked one of his eyes open, looking at Lorraine.

"We need to get to our room."

Jimin hummed sleepily, nodding and jerking off to sit properly. He rubbed his sore eyes while Lorraine got up from the seats placed around the bonfire.

Together they made their way to the third floor. Getting into the sheets once after washing up and changing their clothes. She didn't hesitate to draw closer to him anymore, snuggled into the warmth of him, because he was comfort now. Although the way he stared down at her always had her squirming, still she held the eye contact.

Jimin's hand, which was lightly hugging her waist, made its way into her t-shirt, caressing her back. Lorraine gasped when she realised what he was touching. It was her tattoo, shameless imprinted on her skin.

"Is this the scar?"

Lorraine bit her lip and looked down, nodding. "Covered it up at eighteen."

Jimin opened and closed his mouth, eyebrows furrowed.

"How did you..." He trailed off, drawing in a sharp breath before trying again. "How did you make your way up so high after going through so much in such a short period?"

Lorraine started at him in silence.

"You don't wanna know." She whispered.

"I want to."

She huffed out a sarcastic laugh, humourless and sad.

"You'd hate me, I don't want that."

Jimin furrowed his eyebrows together.

"I won't hate you. Tell me."

Lorraine hesitated, shaking her head and taking Jimin's hand in his.

"One day." She promised. "When I feel that there's nothing that could draw you away anymore, I'll tell you. For now let's just say... I screwed them over."

Jimin eyed her in skeptism for a good minute before he softened and pulled her into him. "Don't hide stuff from me. I'm not a baby, you know? I can handle it."

"I know you can handle it." She assured.

"Then tell me." He urged, leaning closer to disarm her.

"I exposed them with an...uh... acquaintance. Then my uncle's got in and sent me to a hostel with good money to keep my mouth shut. I did so. Had money to come to LA, got a drama opportunity from school and took it. Got adopted by a big actor, he got me a break. I've been playing con girl my whole fucking life but I'm not ashamed of it."

"What about your brother?"

"Was sent to a hostel too, although he had to go and meet my parents every fifteen days. Hated seeing them. Then when I had enough money, got him out as well and he got into tennis."

Jimin didn't say anything, she could see him gulping down his words. He laughed nervously.

"It...sounds so easy when you narrate it which I know it wouldn't have been. I know it's hard, Raine. I've seen your breakdowns. But you don't need to run away now now, you can instead...come closer to me."

Lorraine felt a tug at her heartstrings, a tingle at her neck that she swallowed to prevent herself from getting overwhelmed so easily. For the first time she felt incredibly connected to him, attached to an unhealthy extreme. It was like they were in own little bubble right now, but nothing could penetrate it.

Instinctively, she drew closer to him, their bodies pressed and a dull vibration settling in her chest when Jimin tucked her face into his neck and stroked her hair soothingly.

They didn't say anything after that, falling into a deep, dreamless slumber.
