Chapter 22
The dusk had set into night and the hospital had become silent. Jimin had forgotten about all the crowd and fans and didn't want to come to any conclusion of wether they were still standing out or have left.
All he could feel was this burning sensation in him, mixed with anger, the familiar race of his heart when he was near Lorraine and scared. He thought this would go away when he'd see Lorraine for once and made sure that she was well but no, he ended up sitting outside her room and refusing to move.
Along the empty hallway of the hospital, he wished that his mind and heart were as empty too. All he had thought about was Lorraine and their consequences and he felt depressed already; let alone be the thought of media and Bang Si-Hyuk raging back there in Korea.
Perhaps his heart had had enough, but within the next beat, tears were falling down his eyes. He let a few years fall, realising there was no one around, looking down at the floor.
"Man, you know you can go inside, right?"
Jimin instantly looked up as he heard the voice, it was a boy, perhaps in a university for he looked quite tough. He saw the boy's expressions and realised he was a little taken aback by seeing him crying.
Jimin quickly looked down, wiping his tears then looking up and giving a small smile – almost unnoticeable – as he realised the boy was talking about him going inside to see Lorraine.
"She is stable you can meet her." The boy said again, his voice was kind but his demeanor was as if he was one of those biker dudes of college, the hot black boy every girl swoons over.
"I know," Jimin reassured lowly. "I know, sorry for concerning you."
The boy furrowed his eyebrows, still not understanding why was this Asian dude not going in. He was surely Lorraine Acker's close one to be sitting here since hours. Then it clicked him, "You're that guy, aren't you?" He asked Jimin. "You're the one involved in that kissing scandal with her."
Jimin flinched at the mention and he immediately felt nervous and perhaps the boy noticed that because his observant gaze softened at Jimin.
"I'm sorry, I'm Justin...my mom is admitted here too..." He said. "And I'm a big fan of Lorraine Acker."
"Hi Justine. I'm–"
"Jimin, yeah, I'd be damned if I didn't know the name of the root reason why girls in my university have such high expectations."
A chuckle scratched at the back of Jimin's throat.
"I'd take it as a compliment." Jimin said, his smile kind of widening.
Justine plopped himself beside Jimin as Jimin admired his curly hair. He'd be lying if he said he didn't find black guys exceptionally attractive. No homo though.
"Y'know," Justine started. "When this whole scandal news broke out, my first thought was, 'if I met you, I'd tear your limbs apart.' That's how biased I am about Lorraine Acker."
Jimin gulped down his dry throat.
"But seeing you sitting here since four hours and crying for her...I'm kind of soft." He smiled. "And I thought there would be a shit lot of people coming to see Lorraine, like she's her. But no one did. Perhaps it was her assistant and another singer guy but all of them left and it's only you staying here..."
Jimin's heart warmed.
"Man if you really care that much for her, those people throwing hate out there shouldn't mean shit. Why aren't you going in?"
Jimin chuckled sadly. "I don't think she'd want to see me right now. I think I'm the last person she'd want to see."
"But you two were kissing yesterday– you fought already?! Just go in man, she'd be alone of course she needs someone." Justine urged. "And while you do..."
Justine brought something out from his jacket's pocket. It was a small box wrapped in a gift wrapping paper.
"Give this present to her and tell her it's from a devoted fan. Tell her to get well soon and I'll support her."
Jimin smiled at the small box before looking up at Justine.
"Why don't you give it to her yourself?" He whispered and Justine's eyes widened.
"W-What? M-Me– Lorraine Acker...? No, no I'm a stranger she'd be uncomfortable and on top of that I don't have the permission to go in–"
"I allow you." Jimin reassured, voice coming out cracked but he smiled and patted Justine's back. "Go in, she'd love to see you."
Justine looked at the room in front of her, his heart somehow wavering at the thought that Lorraine was just a room close. He could meet her.
"Thank you. This is the best day of my life...for real..."
"What has happened to your mother?" Jimin asked, remembering he informed so.
"Ah, it's kind of silly, that woman fell off a kitchen stool and fractured her ankle."
Jimin nodded, mumbling a "hope she gets well soon."
A silence fell between them before Jimin looked at him again.
"Go in, go and meet her." He urged.
Justine stood up before nervously walking towards the door, looking at Jimin for one last time and disappearing into Lorraine's room.
*
A gasp escaped Justine's lips as he saw Lorraine. Oh my god. OH MY GOD. He thought, not being able to move, not until Lorraine called him.
"Who are you?" She asked.
Justine didn't say anything for a while. Lorraine fucking Acker.
"I-I'm just a fan I-I happened to be here and thought I could visit but I'll leave if you want me to I swear to god I took permission from Jimin–"
"Hey, calm down..."
Justine went still again, but this time for good as he took in Lorraine's state. She was looking so...normal. Sure she was beautiful and still had this aura which made his heart waver and jump at the same time but she had no make up on, she was wearing comfy pajamas and her hair were messy. The band aid on her forehead stood out a bit too, as he noticed further he could make out dark circles as well.
"I'm sorry, I just thought I could meet you..."
"Yeah...yeah you can, come here, sit down."
Lorraine smiled sweetly and Justine obliged, feeling somewhat more comfortable.
"What your name?" She asked as Justine seated himself on a stool beside her bed.
"I'm Justine." He answered. "I'm a big fan...I brought a gift for you."
Justine took out the small box from his jacket's pocket once again, raising it towards Lorraine. She took it from him, a small smile creeping up her face, her heart warming. No fan has ever done something like that for her. Or perhaps she was too out of reach for her fans.
A chuckle escaped her lips as she continued opening the box and took out a small statue of a baby elephant holding a card saying 'Get well soon.'
"Wow." She exclaimed, her heart filled up with something warm, she could cry over this little gift from a stranger right now.
"I hope you get well soon..." Justine said nervously. "I believe you're going through a lot lately, I just wanted to say there's this one fan who supports you."
Justine rested his hand on his chest and Lorraine smiled widely, her eyes becoming glasdy.
"You've no idea how happy you've made me, you've–" She paused for a moment. "You're believing in me when no one else is...I won't let you down."
Justine smiled. "You never do," He stood up from his stool. "It was really nice meeting you, I'll go now."
"How did you get in though? I mean...there are guards and police outside."
"No, I happened to be in the hospital, my mom is admitted here...uh...the crowd is clear now though."
"Oh, send my wishes to your mom." Lorraine smiled and Justine returned it before leaving the room.
Lorraine analyzed the gift once again before hugging it close to her chest.
*
Jimin entered the room the second time, this time standing at the gate. A part of him was so relieved that Lorraine wasn't hurt but what about him? She didn't care when she hurted him.
He cleared his throat as Lorraine was looking at her side and through the window. Perhaps she hadn't realised he was there.
Lorraine thought his throat clearing was hesitation or something so she rolled her eyes, continuing to look away. She had sensed his presence way before, it was just her acting skills hid it.
"It's anything but awkward." She said savagely.
His savage reply though, didn't seem to embarrass Jimin. His anger literally reached his throat each time he saw her and he was holding back from snapping, already having enough of everything. He saw she was toying with a small statue and figured out that was what Justine gave to her.
"Matt told me about the VISA." Jimin said coldly.
"Of course."
"You're still coming." Jimin pointed. "I'll look it up, I'll talk to my company–"
"You pray your company doesn't fire you, alright? And what are they gonna do?" She scoffed. "I don't need your goddamn company to solve my problems."
"Then what are you gonna do?!"
Lorraine looked away again.
"I'll clear my mess, you don't need to step in. And if I can't solve it...I'm going to Korea by force anyway." She shrugged, not surprised by the bitterness in her tone.
Jimin clutched his fists. He wanted to snap back, he wanted to prove her wrong. But he couldn't, whatever poison she spoke was a truth. But could she just not? Could she just give it a break?
"I'm so done with you, Lorraine." He growled, storming out of the room.
Perhaps that's the reason you left me, you're done with me.
