Chapter 18
Stepping out of the lemousine, the flashes of lights hit Lorraine's face, questions overlapping questions as the reporters threw themselves over to interview her and click photos.
Surrounded by the guards, she entered the massive hall. She was wearing a black v-neck gown, hugging her physique definely.
She was fine, refreshed even.
The show started. She had missed this, meeting her friends and talking and watching them receive awards. She didn't know how time passed but it was her turn now.
"And now we're here to announce, the people's choice awards for the best female leading role, the nominees are..."
The nominees played on the screen, a quick snippet of a scene of her movie playing on the screen, them she saw the camera focusing on her, she smiled softly.
"And the award goes to... Lorraine Acker for Genetical."
With a brilliant smile, she stood up from her seat, her friend who sitting beside her standing up to give her a small hug as the clapping rose throughout the hall.
God, she lived for this feeling.
She led her way towards the stage, taking her award from the host before giving a small speech on the mic. She wanted to keep it short this time, coming back to her seat soon after.
"And now People's Choice Award for Best Music." He hosted again.
The nominees played on the screen once again. It was fine until they mentioned BTS, Lorraine's heart stopped.
Was Jimin here?
Within a second, all the refresh was she had felt by being here drowned out, replaced by that familiar ugly feeling of knowing Jimin had left after seeing a much darker, vulnerable sight of her.
She couldn't help but think that he left because of that. Maybe he didn't want anything to do with her, he was just sticking around because she's... Lorraine Acker. That was all. He was using her.
"And the Award goes to...BTS."
The cheerings and applause rose once again and Lorraine turned her head back on accord by seeing everyone else. He was there, with his band. They were sharing a group hug. Then they walked towards the stage as if they ruled the entire world, which to be honest, they did.
Lorraine's eyes were fixed on him.
The one who effortlessly triggered her panic attacks more than once, then...left. just left. An additional reason to never fall ever again.
It all came to this, didn't it? To never do the grave mistake of falling in love with someone. And if that is a big feeling to throw under the bus so early, just don't let them in.
A familiar burn in her throat rose as her chest clenched badly. She didn't want to do anything weird so she followed everyone's clapping.
The seven men walked on the stage and took their award, one of them giving the speech as the rest stood around him.
Jimin was smiling, a glint in his eyes as he analyzed the audience. He roamed his eyes everywhere until they met Lorraine's.
For Lorraine, the entire world just stopped there. For Jimin, she didn't know.
His gaze was indifferent yet intense, locking with hers in a way I couldn't avert away, petrified. He was acting haughty, and by that particular thing, Lorraine's dignity threw a punch.
She clenched her jaw and looked away, rolling her eyes. Although she didn't quite know if that affected him. He had seen him in such a vulnerable state, she didn't know if he'd be intimidated by her now.
The truth was, she felt scared to see his reaction. So she didn't look back at him again. She felt pathetic, and exposed because of showing something so dark to someone who didn't give an inch. Not even as much to at least...well...just tell her it would be fine. Or if that was a big thing to ask, just face her when he was leaving.
It hurt.
She had never liked someone so genuinely.
They walked back down from the stage, Jimin was so indifferent, as if he hadn't left her writhing in pain.
After that, the show was quick to end, at least for Lorraine. Because she couldn't focus on the awards anymore. Her mind drifted back to where Jimin was sitting, although she didn't dare look back.
The after party started, giving her a sense of déjà-vu. It had all started at the after party.
But this time she didn't go to the balcony, didn't kiss a fellow actress to set up a show for the man that was gawking at her.
She wished she had never done it.
She wished she had never talked to him, or taken him to the after party, or drown into him when he had kissed her.
She didn't regret that night, it was beautiful, wild. She could never regret that night. She had won an Oscar. But just...she wanted her present outcomes to be different.
She sat with her friends, trying to focus on their conversation.
"So I decide to take my dog to the shoot, thinking he'd be in the vanity, it would be fine. But as soon as we reach there, everyone is taking him into his arms and playing with him. I was busy with the shoot and the next thing I know, he shitted on the director's chair."
The two girls laughed whole-heartedly, but Lorraine wasn't quite focusing, because Jimin was sitting right behind her. She felt his gaze peircing holes in her back. She tried controlling it, suppressing the emotions passing through her until it was too much and she finally looked back, locking her gaze with his.
His sultry gaze was so intense, Lorraine felt the heat churning in her stomach. He was gazing at her like a predator. He lifted his glass of golden liquid for his table, moving it towards his mouth and wrapping his plump beautiful lips that felt so soft against her skin around the rim, sipping in the alcohol while still looking at her.
She had to remind herself that didn't care. That he had left her after shouting so badly at her.
For a moment she thought she teared up once again, because it was scary, the things he made her feel. She could be having a breakdown right here and he wouldn't care.
With much effort, she looked at her front again.
After maybe five minutes. A waiter came towards her, handing her a glass wrapped with a tissue.
"I came here to offer you some water but someone says you might want to have a look at the tissue, Ma'am."
"Sorry what?" She asked, confused.
"Someone asks you to take a look at the tissue." He kept the glass on the table along with the folded tissue. She looked at the waiter than the tissue.
What the fuck?
Without much contemplation, she picked up the tissue, opening the neatly folded paper and her heart halted.
She didn't have to debate much over the thought of who sent this. Her head shot back in an instant, once again, eyes locking with his.
He was looking straight at her, making it clear that he had sent it. A sly smirk played on his lips as he dragged his finger over the rim of his glass. His one leg elegantly placed over the other, knowing exactly what he was making her feel.
She didn't understand what game he was playing, but she'd be lying if her heart wasn't beating like crazy, his gaze eating her alive.
Why did he want to meet her?
She raised her eyebrow at him, questioning what the fuck was he trying to do. Why did he want to meet her when she was such a disaster.
He shrugged his shoulders in response, moving his head, ordering her to do as told.
Fuck, that was so hot.
She felt the heat prickling down her neck. Jimin was unhealthy for her. But he was also a drug.
He stood up from his seat, giving Lorraine one last glance and a vicious smirk before disappearing from a door at the corner of the hall.
She knew she shouldn't be going behind him but there was only one way to know what was going on in his head.
