Chapter 14

Taking in the heat of the hot coffee mug in her hands, Lorraine inhaled the scent of the freshly cut green grass. She was sitting in her front yard on the plush sofa placed there, her legs were intertwined with Jimin's as he was spooning her from behind, lying horizontally.

He was checking in his phone for updates, his empty coffee cup kept on the table, still in his sweats. His free hand was mindlessly tracing patterns on Lorraine's exposed shoulder.

She smiled secretly, feeling the warmth of his body melt on her back. She'd admit it, she didn't know what they were doing. Truth be told, she didn't want to. She didn't want to put a stupid name on it. She didn't want to know Jimin's feelings in specific words nor did she want to define he own feelings.

She just wanted it to last as long as it was fun.

Realising Jimin had been a little too long over the phone, she turned her head 180° to check on him.

"Is everything alright?" She asked, referring to what he told her last night.

Jimin looked up from the phone hearing her voice, looking down at his phone once again and realising Lorraine was talking about that.

"Oh, yeah...yeah. Everything's fine."

She narrowed her eyes sceptically.

"Are you sure...?"

"Yeah, I'm sure." He smiled reassuringly, keeping his phone down.

He sounded genuine this time so Lorraine dropped it, facing her front again.

"Lorraine," he called after a while, voice cautious. She hummed in response. "What happened that night? At the club?"

Her entire body paused involuntarily, heartbeat shooting up in an instant. Jimin just dropped a bomb out of the blue, and honestly, she had never had an answer to this question.

"It..." She started, not being able to find words that would describe what happened within her. "I-It happens, don't worry."

"Well, I'll worry if it happens when I'm around, and generally because I care about you."

"It's not– ... Just drop it."

"But–"

"Please, Jimin."

He closed his mouth after that, ceding from the argument as a pit rose in his stomach. Maybe Lorraine wasn't telling him because it was his fault. He crossed a line and now she was uncomfortable, there continued the saga of blaming himself once again.

"I have a photoshoot," Lorraine said after a while, feeling how rigid Jimin's body went against her. "Do you wanna come?"

"I thought you were on a break."

"I'm on a break from my movie, not work."

"Is this a good idea? Accompanying you on a photoshoot."

She shrugged. "I mean...no public will be there, so... You can."

"What about the rest of the people?"

"They're professionals."

That's how Jimin ended up accompanying Lorraine to a photoshoot. It was a good pass time, his mood raised once again by seeing how Lorraine laughed and talked to the crew. He had to say she looked the brightest in front of a camera as if it cheered her up like no one ever could.

A few people talked about him, asked him if he was one of the BTS members and all. He nodded slightly, making a few conversations here and there. They hesitantly asked what was he doing here so he explained he was Lorraine's friend and had come to visit her from Korea so she took him here with him.

A few people clicked selfies with him, promising not to post them and all.

The shoot was short, lasted for roughly three hours before they were heading back home. They didn't know how time passed after that, taking a shower, eating and talking. Just a normal, normal day.

When the night came in, they were standing beside each other in Jimin's room's balcony which had a very nice view of the backyard, the pool was glowing in neon lights and Lorraine's dog, Fantastic, was circling it.

They were giggling while seeing the dog experimentally dip his paw into the pool before getting scared and jumping back with a loud bark.

"He's cute," Jimin commented. "You're very fond of him, aren't you? Looks like one of those spoilt prince dogs."

They laughed loudly but Lorraine nodded none the less, admiring his adorable smile.

"Honestly, yeah apart from the Oscars night, the best day of my life was when I brought Fantastic home. When I chose him, you know. My heart warmed." She explained. "I'm so fond of dogs, they overwhelm me. I could literally cry for them."

"So dogs are the only creatures you're not mean to?" Jimin smirked, his eyes glinting with mischief. Lorraine slapped his upper arm as he laughed.

"I'm not mean! Have I ever been mean to you? Now if I go giggling on the road, you know I'm gonna end up kidnapped. You gotta keep some ego."

"Yeah sure, sure. I feel you." He admitted.

She giggled once before asking, "you like dogs?"

"I'm more of a cat person." He said.

She gave a playfully sceptical look to him. "Cats? Cats are mean...err I feel like they don't give a damn about the world."

"Like you?" Jimin teased and Lorraine pushed him.

"Stop!" She tried scolding as he laughed but ended up smiling as well.

"It's cool." Jimin shrugged. "When you become something on your own strength and hard work, the ego is good. Its attractive and meaningless ego is cheap. Makes me want to show people what they really are."

"That's very wicked of you."

"It's true."

They fell into a comforting silence, hearing the crickets chirping in the backyard and occasionally bursting into small giggles whenever Fantastic did something stupid.

Lorraine looked at her side to analyse his face, he was looking down, deep in thoughts. Before she could ask, he started.

"Have you ever wanted to be a farmer?"

"Huh?" She let out with a breathlessly chuckle.

"Yeah I mean...then I won't have to worry about what people think of me. And I could meet whomever I want, and the whole world wouldn't be judging my body and–"

"Don't do that." Lorraine interrupted, making him stop and look at her. She sighed, before explaining what she meant. "Why are you sulking over a choice that you made by yourself? Think back to when you were...thirteen or whenever you dreamt that reporters would be following you everywhere and all the publicity."

"I..."

"You know you enjoy it, and it isn't wrong to enjoy it. We chose it for ourselves so why regret it?"

"Right." He said, giving her a tight smile before looking at his front again.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to snap." She sighed. "There are people suiciding because they couldn't reach where we are, so why don't we be a little grateful?"

"Maybe I started taking it as a job somewhere in between than a dream come true... Thanks for reminding me."

"Don't mention it." She said with a comical smirk, making him chuckle.

It was while they were staring at each other, that the flip switched. Somewhere in between the softness of their eye contact turned rather tense and heavy, making it hard for Lorraine to breathe calmly.

She analyzed how his plump lips parted slightly when he neared the one armed distance between them, but she also noticed the hesitation in his actions. It was as if he was controlling a beast within him.

Considering the previous time they had made out, he was. Lorraine was...unreal. It was like she controlled an inferno within Jimin. But Lorraine was also difficult, feared some unknown reason that ate Jimin up that it had led her to push him away. And he was afraid that once again she'd do it and then he'll lose something. Something.

"Trust me this time."
