A Brother's Effect
Simon walked to school the next day on his own. He didn't really feel up to walking with his brother's this morning so when Alvin and Theadore questioned why, he simply answered "Please. I just need some time to think, I'll catch up with you guys later." Then without for a response he took off. The scene played in his mind over and over again with his confession to Brittany and her rejection and this bothered him. How was he supposed to face her now? Even worse how could he forgive Alvin?"
He just started trying to think this through when the very familiar voice called to him who was the very last chipmunk he wanted to talk to at the moment.
'"Si! Hold up!" Alvin called to him running on all fours to catch up to him.
Simon sighed rubbing his temple annoyed. (What part of need-time-to-think) did he not understand? Even though Alvin was the oldest brother out of the 3 of them, Simon wondered considering that Theadore would be more likely to piece togeather what Simon wanted than Alvin ever could...it made him wonder if just the few mere seconds of time passed between his and his brother's birth really made that much of a difference at all.
Simon was still thinking about the small time gaps between his and his brother's births and what difference it could really make when Alvin interrupted his thoughts once again.
"Are you feeling okay Si? You seem kind of...out of it lately, ever since the night of our concert." Alvin said slowing down once he was beside him and walked on two legs rather than four matching Simon's pace perfectly.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just...figuring out a difficult math problem for our assignment."
Alvin looked at him queastionly. "But Simon...you always brag about how the queastions in the assignment are too easy for you whenever we practice and you and Jeanette were the highest scores so..." Alvin trailed off thinking for a moment.
"Are you having girl problems with Jeanette?" He suddenly asked.
Simon rolled his eyes. Alvin for once wasn't completely off his mark but there was more to it than that and that would be part of the problem he could never admit to Alvin. He just hoped Brittany never said anything to her sisters either. Thinking of Brittany telling anything to Jeanette about his hidden feelings for her made him more than just a little bit sick..and hurt. She would feel so betrayed and crushed. He still had feelings for Jeanette but now there was someone else besides her he fancied. He couldn't control his feelings and yet...
"Simon? Simon? Simon?! Alvin waved his paw in front of his face trying to regain his attention.
"Huh? Oh..ya! I'm totally fine Alvin!" Simon said. "It's just I really do have to figure out a problem for our given assignment...just to make sure I got it right. You know me. Always thinking things over. Me and Jeanette are fine."
Alvin gave Simon a look as if not sure weather he should queastion him further.
"Alright...but uh..Si? Have you seen Brittany? I've tried talking to her earlier but she refused to talk to me. Where do you think she'd be? I mean...I understand why she may be a bit mad at me but I didn't do anything that bad..I've done wor-"
Simon grited his teeth and made an odd sound at the back of his throat which made Alvin stop talking and look at him. "Simon?"
"Don't ...you think you should give her some space for awhile?" Simon asked through his teeth. He was trying so hard not to snap at Alvin, but considering that Alvin was immature enough to believe that what he did to Brittany wasn't that big of a...deal, really sent him on edge. Especially after he sent her away crying after kissing some girl he barely even knew.
Alvin looked suprised. "Space? But Simon I gave her some already...I've hit on girls before, she knows this, we aren't dating so why should it matter?"
"Why should it matter? I'm sorry but did you really just say "Why should it matter?"
Alvin's eyes widened as he realized Simons hands were trembling and his tone went from quiet to on the edge of fury. It shocked him. He NEVER saw Simon like this. Simon was always the calm and think things through one. He reached for Simon's shoulder.
"Si?" Simon slapped his paw away.
"Why should it matter?! Alvin you clueless dim wit! You hurt her like this so many more times than once and she forgave you! You knew it hurt her but it didn't stop you from making the same mistake just like you always do does it? You aren't dating no, but you know darn well that she loves you! If you truly love her back stop making those same mistakes and just think for once!"
"Simon..wha-"
"Do you know how lucky you are to have someone like her?" Simon interrupted him. Alvin just stared speechless. Simon was crying because he hurt Brittany? Why?"
"Despite how much you annoy her she keeps loving you...but you keep breaking her apart! Why do you still act like such a child? I LOVE her Alvin!! But while I've been loving her she loves YOU! And I have to stand by the sidelines and make the same mistake over and over. But you just keep coming up to me and asking WHY SHOULD IT MATTER!!"
Simons tears fell to the floor as Alvin stared at him in silent shock. "Simon...you..you-" Alvin chocked on his own words.
Simons eyes widened as he stepped back shocked at his own words fell into place and he came to his realization. "Alvin-i- I have to go."
With that Simon ran off leaving a trail of his tears and Alvin making one of his own.
