Catching Up With David V. M.

Hello unusual su-SPEC-ts! Today we have an awesome interview with @maybeiwas2shy, author of fantasy and paranormal adventures like "The Queen Of Cats" and "The God Of The Rotting Tree". Lets get to know him better, shall we?

If you couldn't be an author, what would your ideal career be? -A film director or cinematographer.

Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character from your most recent book? -I cannot for the life of me put any kind of face or detailed physical appearance to any of my characters so I wouldn't know.

What advice would you give to your younger self? -Think less and write more.

Which famous person, living or dead would you like to meet and why? -I'd like to meet China Mieville. Because he's China Mieville.

If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it have been and why? -The Horse and His Boy by C.S. Lewis. I've always wanted to have written that book.

Where do you see publishing going in the future? -I see a lot of idealistic and moral policing and gatekeeping in the realms of traditional publishing so I'm hoping for the rise of self pubbing and small presses. Power to the readers and writers, I say.

Tell us a little about your plans for the future. Where do you see yourself as a writer in five years? -Hopefully with a novel in bookstores.

What's your favorite thing about Wattpad, and your least favorite? -It'll be hard to wind me down if I start singing Wattpad's praises. My least favourite thing is that there isn't a Windows Phone app.

What books have most influenced your life most? -Perdido Street Station by China Mieville, Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami, The Horse and His Boy by C.S. Lewis and Alan Moore's Watchmen.

What book are you reading now? -White Mughals by William Dalrymple

Where can we find you online? -You can find more of my writing over at my instagram page. Same name as here.

What is your life like when you aren't busy writing? -When I'm not writing, I'll be studying a mysterious concoction of History, Political Science, Economics, English lit. and Web Design. I'll also probably be skateboarding or playing guitar or something.

Where did your love of books/storytelling/reading/writing/etc. come from? -My dad's a heavy reader so genetically it may have stemmed from there. My grandmother on my mum's side use to read to me a lot when I was a wee lad so that probably contributed a lot.

What is your writing process like? Are you a plotter/pantser/neither? -I'd like to call myself a plotter because I try not to jump into anything with some sort of plan in mind but I put a minuscule amount of effort into plot development when you compare me with actual plotters so...

What inspires you? -Oddly enough, other people's work. I used to feel really guilty about saying this cos it sounds like I'm hella into plagiarism but I've come to terms with the fact that my biggest source of inspiration for a poem or story would be some other poem or story. I come from a tradition of writing that very respectfully filches from here and there to make something more or less original. Kinda like collages.

Of all your current projects, which is your favorite? Your least favorite? -I can tell you my least favourite. This sequel to The Queen of Cats. I have a pretty extensive plot for that story set up (which is new) but I am SO not feeling it. I don't think I'm really into sequels.
