See? I told you! The mouse! So, do you like living there? If not, where would your favourite place to live be? Is yes, where would you least like to live?

I do like living here, I wasn't sure I was going to at first. I think I'd least like to live in Siberia. I don't think I'd survive there.

No, Siberia would be too bleak and cold. And no giant mice. As you're a writer, is this your 'day job'?

No, I'm a full-time student. I do this mostly in the evenings.

So you're not one of these students who have cold pizza for breakfast and attend three classes a month and even then sleep through them? That's good to know. I've known students like that. Tell me about your latest project. Does it involve... OK! Enough about the mice!

It's called Saving Adam. It's about a girl named Sarah Campbell who's a peer mentor, and she gets assigned to the starting Quarterback's case, Adam Watson. And their story unfolds from there.

Interesting! How do you feel about bacon? A crazy person once said it was the food of the gods. OK, I admit that person was myself...

I'm a vegetarian. So I don't feel any sort of way about bacon. I guess it makes some strange noises when it sizzles.

Those aren't strange noises! It's the song of the bacon! It's lulling you into eating it! It's a conspiracy I tell you! What is your favourite film?

A Walk to Remember. There are very few films I'd say were better than the book, but this one is one of them.

Good choice! I know what you mean. So many films bear little relation to the original book and I think it's sad. It loses the essence of the story. Have you always wanted to be a writer, or is it something you found yourself doing one day?

I had no intentions of being a writer. But I watched a movie (Firehouse Dog) and didn't like the ending, so I decided to rewrite it for myself. And the rest is history.

That would make a good book - how films were meant to end. There's a YouTube cartoon series of superhero films etc. about how they should have ended. Hilarious. What was wrong with Firehouse Dog? No mice? Do you have so many ideas they dribble out of your nose if you don't get them down, or do you have to hunt around the floor and the back of your sofa to find where your Muse is hiding?

I have so many ideas that they dribble out of my nose, ears, eyes, and butt if I don't get them down. I have a notebook full of plot ideas, as well as a computer full of one-page plot ideas.

Have a word with Mucus Mickey. He has plenty of tissues. I believe Shaun wishes he had a notebook full of plot ideas, but he doesn't. He keeps thinking he'll remember them and promptly doesn't! If you were in an asylum, what would your particular delusion or psychosis be?

Well I already hear different characters inside of my head. Right now I hear a lot of Joel Campbell, it's a spin-off for Saving Adam that I'm excited about and I haven't even finished the first book yet.

I read YOM - Young Old Man. It's yet to catch on. If these are the same, what attracts you to them? If they're different, why do you think that is?

They're the same because it's what I love to read and write. That's a stupid answer but I don't know how to explain it. I love a story about people just about my age that go through life trials (not necessarily about love) and either come out on top or don't. I just love the journey on the way.

Nothing stupid about it. It's the journey that matters. My journey ended up with me in here. Now that's stupid. Bacon - just cooked or crispy?

Ah, so you've tastes its delights. And you still gave it up? OK... Maybe it was the mouse's influence... You're entering your work into the Wattys for 2016. Watt story (do you see what I did there?) are you entering? Tell us about it!

I'm entering The Golden Couple & Before There Was Us. The Golden Couple follows a love story between two teenagers who are hopelessly and irrevocably in love, but run into some obstacles along the way. And Before There Was Us is a prequel to my most popular book, My Brother's Best Friend. It follows the main characters, Parker Adams and Emily Winston, two years before the main storyline takes place.

Excellent. I've heard good things about My Brother's Best Friend. Now you're in the asylum with me, how do you aim to get out? Do you have an escape plan?

I'd recruit Wentworth Miller from Prison Break and the two of us would fight our way out. With the blueprint tattooed on his body, and his IQ of a genius, I have total faith in him.

Erm... I don't know how to tell you this, but he's already here. He read the plans in the mirror and ended up breaking IN. And then they washed off in the shower. Not real tattoos, I'm afraid. He does have a farting devil tattooed on his left butt cheek, though. Does that count?
