Sins of the Goldfish
Is it Wednesday already? I think an extended stint in Room 101 after my last visitor has made me lost track of days... Who do we have here today?
What's your name?
Jhessicka K. Gomes
Hi Jhessicka. Interesting spelling. I think my fingers tripped over themselves writing it! And where are you from?
I am convinced I am from another realm, but for now Florida will do.
The girl who fell to Earth, eh? Well, you'll fit in well here. Do you like living there? If not, where would your favourite place to live be? Is yes, where would you least like to live?
No, recently got back to South Florida and quickly remembered why I left. My favorite place? Anywhere as long as I am in the arms of the woman I love. Cheesy, I know, but I would have to say either Noronha, or in a cabin out in the mountains somewhere.
I've never actually heard of Noronha so had to look it up. Wow. It looks stunning. I can agree with the cabin in the woods, even if they are frequented by crazed killers or the undead. At least it'd be peaceful until you were decapitated. As you're a writer, is this your 'day job'?
Recently resigned and opening my own business.
Oooh that sounds exciting! Tell me about your latest project.
While in a life-changing trip to LA last week I ended up having people interested in three of my projects that I had shut down. So I am working on all three at once aside from the business. Sins of the Father - is a project of a lifetime. The entire series would be at least 10 books so that one will be an interesting one. Medieval fantasy, love, hate, betrayal, battles, dragons, and more. The other ones are part of the Moondust Series that were all inspired by the same person. The same for whom I write most (all of my stories).
Wow, exciting again! It sounds very busy writing all three at once. I stuggle to remember my own name without singing Happy Birthday to myself! How do you feel about bacon? A crazy person once said it was the food of the gods. OK, I admit that person was myself...
Bacon is life. (Don't tell my doctor I said that). Dr Rondon if you are reading this, I plead no contest.
Dr Rondon, don't worry, she's in an asylum. If anything remotely close to bacon – or anything else edible – crosses her lips, she'll be lucky. What is your favourite film?
Revenge of the Sith and Ponyo
Is that a thing? Revenge of the Sith and Ponyo? Does Darth Maul fight goldfish now, or have you just been 'spirited away?' Have you always wanted to be a writer, or is it something you found yourself doing one day?
I have always wanted to but it always terrified me. I grew up with the belief that any form of art was a waste of time, or not a real job. It hindered me from pursuing it, despite being an art lover. As I grew up I started seeing how wrong that mentality was, and recently as I promise I stopped hiding my work and did as asked of me, I started to share a little bit of my world.
Shaun had the same issues. Writing was silly and pointless. Luckily for me, he ignored the detractors! Lucky for you too, or you'd never have met me! Do you have so many ideas they dribble out of your nose if you don't get them down, or do you have to hunt around the floor and the back of your sofa to find where your Muse is hiding?
Too many ideas, you can see by the number of stories I have up. But they have the same muse written in every line whether I write a children's book, or an adult novel.
Excellent. So many ideas can made you head spin, but it's a fun ride! If you were in an asylum, what would your particular delusion or psychosis be?
Oh man. I am laughing and shaking my head right now. I had a "fun" experience with institutions before. I believe PTSD, BPD, or alexithimia would get me there as far as delusion. There are too many to pick one.
You did? I thought I recognised your face. Have you already met Dr. Connors...? You sound too in touch with your own emotions to suffer from alexithimia, but there's all sorts in here. What genre(s) do you write?
Medieval Fantasy is my favorite, but I write all sorts of stories though all tend to have LGBT characters, and all stories carry a little life lesson that I learned along the way.
So it goes from children's books for grown ups (little prince style), short romances, vampire stories. Poetry, journal, letters. Yes, there are analogies/metaphors everywhere.
There are indeed. You certainly let your muse loose, don't you? Careful, she may get trampled on in here. What genres(s) do you read?
Mostly philosophy books, all of the Star Wars EU books, Medieval Fantasy all the way, and anything historical.
Love Star Wars. Well, most of it. Luckily there's 'new hope' for the series now. If these are the same, what attracts you to them. If they're different, why do you think that is?
They share similar traits, most of my writing has a poetic, and philosophical undertone to it even when I try not to. I believe in using our minds, thinking, reading between the lines. That is what I seek for in all entertainments. Something that I can learn from and perhaps change my life in some way, so that is what I seek to give. I believe a good book can save lives. Writing itself has saved mine, that is what I try to give in return.
Very interesting. Yes, things shouldn't necessarily be taken at face value. There's always shades underlying the obvious words or meanings. Bacon – just cooked or crispy?
Crispy, please.
No need to say please. I'm happy with that. Crispy is gooood. You're entering your work into the Wattys for 2016. Watt story (do you see what I did there?) are you entering? Tell us about it!
Yes, I am. It takes a lot for my nervous self to do anything like that but I decide to enter most stories but the ones that actually mean the most to me are Sins of the Father, The Little Queen and the Moon, Stay With Me, and Sired. They all share the same muse. Sins of the Father is really close to home. So it would be special to have them out there.
'The Little Queen and the Moon.' Love that title. Good luck with them but, now you're in the asylum with me, how do you aim to get out? Do you have an escape plan?
I mean, I do not believe I would want to get out. But if I needed to, hmm. I would say feign obedience. Pretend to be so out of it they don't see what is coming once I strike.
Oh, you should definitely want to get out. We're a great bunch of lunatics, but it's the sane ones you have to look out for!
